Testo completoThe interactive emissions broadcast the words of the listeners. The theoretical concepts resulting from pragmatic and social psychology, articulated with the concepts of genre of speech and contracts of communication made it possible to describe this word. The systematic and statistical analysis of the origins of speeches, the verbal capital, the interlocutif acts and the act of speaking distinguished from the great kinds corresponding to great discursive aimings : actuality, testimony and the council, mediation and the community of confessions and relational programs. The study in reception was interested in the recognition as of the these great contracts then questioned the recognition of pragmatic and discursive dimensions dominant, as well as the recognition of the kinds by a exercise of association. For the majority, the sequences were associated according to the similarity of the kinds and the aimings

Testo completoThis work is about media discourse, especially religious discourses on senegalese radios. We decided to work on this subject because we have noticed that religious leaders use the public as well as the private airwaves to convey their messages. These leaders have developped several skills to become popular and to keep and convince their faithfuls. The purpose of this thesis is to get an insight into the leaders’ messages on the religious, social and cultural domains and also to find the tools they use to reach their goals. To carry out this work, we have collected a corpus of 29 broadcasts from two hosts. Among these broadcasts, 12 are non interactive. The others are interactive and concern the listerners (12 broadcasts), the guests (two broadcasts) and the co-hosts (three broadcasts). First, on the structural level, we based ourselves on the sequential approach borrowed from the conversationalists. We were so able to identify the rituals, which are very important and allow to see the different roles and places of all the participants. We also found that these discourses are based on discursive diagrams used by both hosts. Their objective is to present certain facts, but, above all, to convince the listeners. This construction marks their desire to produce a pedagogical speech. Was also realized a content analysis to bring to light the main topics discussed during the broadcasts, this allowed us to see that the religious hosts don’t concentrate only on themes connected to the religion but, they also deal with social, historical, political questions, etc. Then, to show the interpersonal relation between the hosts and their various participants, we analyzed the terms of address and the speech acts. It emerges from this study that the various participants build a harmonious relationship. We finally identified the various figures, which come into play in the construction of the hosts’ discourses. This analysis helps us to determine that the hosts combine ethos, logos and pathos to convince the listeners.

To look into the dialectics reports between the issues and the conditions of their programation, it mean that, at first, to indulge to a total contextual investigation of the country, of its institutional frame, of the place of the radio in the communication circuits, of the hearing etc. . . Above the limits of the structure (congolese revolution voice and the rural radio increased by the absence of the know how, a clear analysis permit to ascertain the irrealism of the software indicated by a containual prescriptif influenced by the scheme univectorial of the communication. Testo completoThe development of television and radio on demand addresses the issue of the sustainable use of programs offered in linear mode. Those classic programs can be regarded as restricting in a time marked by the massive individualization of the way of experiencing daily time and space. Yet, people use more and more those classic media. Time for television or radio is constantly increasing. The case of working mothers seems to be an apparent paradox: they can dedicate a growing part of their daily time to the medias, while it’s more and more difficult for them to succeed in daily organization. They already must manage multiple times: working, family, social time. . . Then, the question is: when, how and why do they include media time in this full schedule? Is the schedule of traditional linear media in line with their way of life? The assumption is that they use media, among other reasons, to maintain a form of time stability in everyday life. To validate this hypothesis, the connections between the different times of daily life must be defined, focusing on media time. We chose to organize the investigation in two ways. Fisrt, we analyzed the offer of television and radio (technology developments and evolution of schedules) in order to understand the temporality created by media themselves. Then, we looked into the reasons why working women use media. First of all, it seems that media time is a copy of social time: the schedules have been created in order to be in adequacy with public time. But, retrospectively, the users, and mainly women, use them to maintain the stability of their time, in a context marked by intense time changes

Testo completoThe thesis focused on the study of Jupiter's auroral radio emissions, produced close to the local electronic cyclotron frequency by Maser Cyclotron instability, powered by resonant electrons of energies of a few keV, accelerated along high magnetic field lines at high latitude.I first took over, validated and extended the simulation code ExPRES (Exoplanetary and Planetary Radio Emissions Simulator) developed at LESIA, which allows to produce dynamic spectra of visible radio emissions for a given observer. I performed a parametric study of simulations of radio emissions induced by Io in order to quantify the role of the main free parameters of the code (distribution function and energy of the electrons, magnetic field model, position of the active magnetic field line and altitude of the ionospheric cutoff). This study confirmed that Io emissions are correctly reproduced only when the radiation is oblique to the magnetic field lines, which is simulated by ExPRES through loss cone electronic distribution functions. I have also shown that (a) the parameters that mainly control the shape of the simulated emissions in the time-frequency plane are the magnetic field model and the electron energy, and that (b) the simulations are in excellent agreement with observations, with a time window of uncertainty of ± 2 hours.Using this code, I produced long-term simulations of radio emissions induced by Io, and those expected for Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. Comparing these simulations with several years of Jupiter observations recorded with the Voyager / PRA and Cassini / RPWS instruments (punctually supplemented by those of the Nançay decametric array), I proved the existence of radio emissions induced by Europa and Ganymede. The statistical study of these emissions allowed me to establish their average properties (extension in frequency, temporal variability, and occurrence). This result opens a new field of study, remotely and in the long-term, of the planet-satellite interactions other than Io-Jupiter.The comparison of these simulations with the Juno / Waves observations allowed me to unambiguously identify the radio emissions induced by Io, as well as their hemisphere of origin (without knowing their polarization, not measured by Juno / Waves), for an observer close to the equator (case of the Earth), as at higher latitudes. Thanks to these simulations, I have also shown that the emissions are visible only if the opening of the emission angle is greater than 70 ° ± 5 °.Finally, I began a statistical study of the spatial distribution of auroral radio sources traversed by the Juno probe. I thus mapped the sources of the various components (kilometer to HF) of Jovian radio broadcasts. Comparison with recent magnetic field models, as well as UV imagery (Juno / UVS and Hubble / STIS) allowed me to demonstrate a correlation of radio emissions with the main auroral oval

Testo completoOn French commercial radio channels, musical program managers broadcast and select songs according to specifie criteria which are proper to the functioning of the industry of radio and recorded music. Therefore, the presence of a song on a playlist would depend upon the «trends» set by radio professionals. Whereas issues arise in relation to the protection of cultural diversity against market and competition laws, it seems that radios insidiously suggest a limited and repetitive musical and cultural scheme. Ln a very efficient way, since it is an invisible phenomenon, this gives rise to very little protest. It is even more thorny that the radio medium is still one of the main means for musical diffusion and a key vector for selling discs and connecting artists with their audience

Testo completoThe purpose of our doctoral thesis is to analyze radio’s roles in society, observing connections between radio stations and their audience within the context of phone-in programs which are omnipresent on air. Service broadcasts, meanwhile intending to offer help and advice in listener’s day-to-day problems, reveal new ways of using this media. Considering this, are radio stations passive or active devices? Is the audience used by these broadcasters or do they seize it autonomously? By studying the actual evolution of radio, throughout its new forms of technologies as in its most traditional uses, we seek to highlight the causual, comparison and concomitance links among broadcasts, as well as listerner’s reactions to it. In order to do that, our work has focused on Menie Grégoire’s broadcast on RTL from 1967 to 1981, on “Ça peut vous arriver” on RTL, and on “Lahaie, l’amour et vous” on RMC, still emitted nowadays

Testo completoWho is writing to protestant religious broadcasters in france? why? what is the secret of broadcasts which receive an important number of letters ? these are the three questions which were at the origin of this study. Five protestant broadcasts have been chosen and 4000 letters received between october 1981 and december 1982 have been analysed. Apart from the construction of a typical profile of the correspondent, the expression of their motivations and the evaluation of the communication, this study has revealed four factors which play an essential role for the quantity of letters. It allowed to mesure the competition between the official protestants and independant evangelical protestants. Latters ones manifested a very high vitality. The study ends with a reflection about the future of protestantism on radio and television. A reflection which can be expressed in these words: "which kind of protestantism will be on the wires tomorrow?

Testo completoThe relation set between the radio listeners and the radio speaker by means of the telephone is apprehended through a contents analysis of the speeches of persons responsible for such broadcasts, and also with some observations made inside different studios (work done in france, between 1983 and 1986). The theoretical frame needs a restrictive definition of "interactivity" and then sums up the main works about telephone and radio. Then a comparison of different broadcasts (presented by "wide audience" radios and local ones) is made in order to determine if the size of the radio has any influence towards the "interactivity" of the relation which is set. The speeches recorded, the analysis and the observations had been made in an empirical way, and are sorted according to a typology of broadcasts : games, talk shows, services, confidences, informations. Main conclusion : the local-national cleavage is to be demythologized, the quality of the relation set depending far more on the broadcasting policy followed ; radio may be remarkably interactive

Testo completoMy dissertation deals, in part, with my observations of editing, mixing and public broadcasting at france culture, a radio station of radio france. There, i used ethnographical and ethnomethodological devices, some interviews, and concepts of the sociology of work and professions. I studied some interactions in the studio between the producer, the editor and the sound-mixer. I used some pragmatics for understand the broadcasting work. For example, in my study of the moment when people go on the air, i showed the distinction made between introducing the third-person listener into the group of participants in the studio and constructing a place for that listener in the conversation, the contemporary form of publicity that interaction on the air assumes, and the frame reference that it mobilizes. Another aspect of my dissertation is consecrated to the career and activity of two professional groups working for france culture: the producers and those in charge of "realisation" of program, who permitted me to study the production and editing of the programs distributed by the station. My personal interests lie in the training of the producers, their different professional goals and the professionalization of their occupation. My dissertation provided a definition of the cultural programme at france culture by studying professionals and their work

Testo completoRadioelectric norms give different limit values of the radioelectric exposure. Exposure levels measured near radio and telecommunication antennas are very small compared to values recommended by the “International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection”. Today, persons near radio transmitters are seeking for the evaluation of exposure levels and the probability to exceed some threshold and not only the conformity to norms. Probabilistic framework with geostatistical methods is proposed that permits this evaluation. In this thesis we present an application of linear geostatistical methods, in particular the kriging method, for the estimation of the radioelectric levels of exposure starting from the output of a numerical model. The application of kriging with external drift to measurements obtained by a dosimeter is presented in this thesis. In these case studies, the Cauchy variogram model shows a good adequacy with the variability of the power density. A final application aims to evaluate the probability with which the exposure can exceed a determined threshold. We use two methods of non linear geostatistics, which require a Gaussian random function framework. . The practical implementation of these methods involves a transformation of the exposure to Gaussian values. A comparison between the probability of threshold exceedance obtained by application of the two methods on measurements is presented
Autissier, Anne-Marie. "France culture : rôle et programmation d'une radio à vocation culturelle". Paris 5, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA05H028.
Testo completoThis research aims to firstly understand the mode of formation of a state owned cultural radio in France and secondly try and shed light on the role ascribed to it by managers, operators and listeners, as seen from its communication and programming policies and listeners' profiles and expectations from 1984 to 1996. France culture was created after the war but the will to use broadcasting as a means to spread culture dates back from the very origins of radio in the 1920s, together with a built-in ambiguity as artists and intellectuals alike expressed their mistrust at such an ephemeral and mechanical process. In 1948, the "programme national" was set up within the framework of the French broadcasting system as a "sound showcase" of French culture with its interviews, dramas, reports and serious music. In 1963, the reorganisation of the various channels led to the creation of France-Inter, France-Musique and France-Culture. This establishment of a ministry of culture and the faith in cultural democratisation concurred to establish the legitimacy and recognition of a knowledge channel. In 1984, competition from private radio stations and the advent of new means of cultural legitimacy brought a global reflexion on the programming and public image of France-Culture. France-culture opened up to all facets of culture and started to worry about its "couleur d'antenne" and its communication. Ungraspable and adaptable, France-culture attempts to reconcile its role as a media and its image as a cultural institution. 456 000 listeners per day on average, its audience too reflects its diversity. Thus, France-Culture programming comes forth as being the result of an evolutionaly coexistence rather than a clearly set strategy

Testo completoThe Media are subject to numerous media coverage. Although it is not a recent phenomenon, it has increased over the past few years. After being discussed for outside, the Media are keen on selfcriticism. Criticism of the Media by the Media themselves should allow the addressee to distance oneself and give him the capacity to become critical. The hypothesis we suggest is that the Media don’t really criticize themselves. They only build an image of criticism. We took an interest in the metaspeech produced by the television program Arrêt sur Images. This program promises didactic, but only offers the beginnings and the criticism it offers is only partial, biased and normalized. The statements play on the representation of what critic should be and comforts the subject of the study, that is to say television, in its legitimacy in the role of a security valve. We then concentrated on three speeches supported by other mass Media : Big Bang Blog (internet); J'ai mes Sources (France Inter) and Lettre à Zélie (Télérama). Beyond the subject of their study and despite the differences related to the nature of their medium, mediacriticism can be recognized by its specific writing. The speaker plays on the complicity with the receiver, “making him believe”. The use of complicity engages a clutch that makes the receiver believe he/she is implicated in the statement. This one goes from the status of audience to the status of “assistant-participant”, actor of the statement. Therefore, mass Mediacriticism doesn't stimulate distancing oneself but makes believe in the legitimacy of the receiver

We chose two types of radio broadcasts available on the network: info-interactive and interactive. With these three processes of research, we wanted to confirm, firstly the existence of a cultural policy within the cultural communities of foreign origin radios, secondly the development of the intercultural relations among interlocutors of various cultural origins, thirdly the getting of a social and cultural knowledge and the evolution of the cultural representations on these communities in a dynamic of mediation

Testo completoThe compared study of two Parisian antennas (Radio-Paris / Poste national and Radio-LL / Radio-Cité) makes it possible to highlight the principal aspects of the musical development of French radio during the Thirties. The analysis of the programs and the distribution of the authors and the performers of the first half of the decade shows that the musical diffusion remains, on the big station as on the artisanal station, mainly directed towards the symphonic repertory and recital. But since 1935, the three indicators allow to underline the scission between the two networks : the increase of the erudite music on Radio-Paris and its reduction on Radio-LL. Behind this antagonism, is profiled the confrontation between two opposite points of view of the media : a powerful tool for acculturation in the public stations, and an instrument of leisure and relaxation in the imposing commercial stations, which incarnates now Radio-Cité. However, some factors introduce complexity into this manichean schema. By detailing the development of the teaching emissions, the irruption of the amateur and music lover on the waves and the impact of musical radio-publicity, permanent research, all confused networks, are visible towards an immediate satisfaction of the listener. Besides, the examination of the didactic projects, and those of esthetics with fragile frontiers and the phenomena of spontaneous acculturation show that beyond the duality of a project of taste education and relaxation by less legitimate products, the similtudes are numerous between the stations. They even constitute the most substance of musical broadcasting in the decade

Testo completoAs long as Breton remained the majority language in Lower-Brittany, up to the turn of the 20th century, it was Catholic preaching that passed the standard(s) down, beyond dialects. Do the media fulfill that function nowadays, after the family transmission of Breton was abandoned ? The evolution of Breton language programmes on radio and television since the 1960s will be described. At the turn of the 21st century, the last generation of traditional native speakers frequent rarely and partially those who speak Breton by choice, having acquired it mainly through education. Are the audio-visual media a meeting point for popular tradition and literate creation ? The genesis, functioning, and possible impact of the short local news programme, broadcast by France 3 Iroise, an Taol Lagad, will be analysed as a modest melting pot and catalyst for intergenerational and interdialectal understanding. A prospective view will then be proposed as to what a real comprehensive Breton language TV service could be like, if it was to fully take part in the movement of maintenance and development of language use in the community, after the example of what other Celtic languages have achieved

Testo completoFrance Inter, founded in 1963, is a public service radio. In the 1960s, it was placed under the authority of the Ministry of Information. Its mission is to inform, educate, entertain and cultivate the French citizens. From 1963 to 1969, two logics compete daily in the production of Radiobroadcasted Journal on France Inter. The government wants to integrate the radio news of the public station in its strategy of political communication, while journalists require to ensure compliance with the ethical rules of their profession. From 1963 to 1965, the radio news takes the form of an instrument of civic education of the general public. The goal is to explain and clariry the facts and to provide timeliness of news to the consumers. The journalists pratice a "French" type of journalism, wich mix news gathering and "new journalism". From 1966 to 1967, the newspaper is moving towards a more popular style, and use, to stand up to the television, techniques for seducing the audience. Journalists apply a strict separation between facts and comments. The first period is characterised by the production of a discursive journalism, and the second by a "storytelling" journalism. Then, from 1967 to 1969, narrative and discursive journalism coexist, as well as information journalism and communication journalism

Testo completoThis thesis centres on the study of three French radio phone-in programmes for young people which have a nightly audience of between 600,000 and 1,000 000 listeners. A review of historical and sociological studies undertaken on these radio programmes is presented before tackling notion of "common slang", "common youth slang", "contemporary urban French" "cool French" and "swear words". The corpus consists of phone-in radio programmes from Skyrock, Fun Radio and NRJ recorded in 2003 and analysed using the principles of modern slang study. In the first instance the origin of newly formed words, phases and slang expressions, (formal criteria or semantics) is studied, following this origin of loan words is then explored. Further to this process, an attempt was then made to verify whether these words, phrases and slang expressions from the corpus were listed in four dictionaries - Le Petit Robert and three slang dictionaries. The results of the analysis determine which type of slang is used by which radio, a tentative typology of "common slang", "common youth slang", contemporary urban French and "coll French" is also proposed. Results further confirm the existence of common youth slang in France which circulates through mass media and in particular through phone-in radio programmes for young people

Testo completoThis dissertation examines the history of daytime television and radio targeting housewives at the Société Radio-Canada (SRC) from the arrival of television in 1952 until the disappearance of the Service of televised women's broadcasts in 1982. This Service was the only Service in Montreal directed by a woman and in which women employees were more numerous than men. From 1965 to 1982, the Service produced Femme d’aujourd’hui, a TV programme developed for francophone women across Canada. Referring to feminist works in communications, history and literature that developed the concept of gender, we move away from a transmission model in media studies by drawing upon approaches developed in cultural studies that reflect the complexity and equivocal nature of media production. From a constructivist perspective and adopting a qualitative and inductive methodological approach, we analyze the discourse contained in promotional publications published by the SRC for audiences between 1952 and 1982: La semaine à Radio-Canada (1950-1966), Ici Radio-Canada Madame (1966-1967) and Ici Radio-Canada (1967-1982); in the employees’ magazine Circuit fermé (1965-1982); and in the sources preserved in the private funds of the Chief of the Service of televised women's broadcasts from December 1965 to October 1981, Michelle Lasnier. Referring to the theory of gendered organizations, this dissertation shed lights on the gendered dynamics of media production in line with the evolution of social changes brought about by the feminist movements in the 1960s and 1970s in order to explain both the limitations and opportunities they offered women in public space. Taking into account women’s work enables to demonstrate how values, standards, qualities, abilities, and expectations associated with femininity and masculinity were an integral part of the organizational culture of the public broadcaster, most often, but not always, to the detriment of women. In order to detail the institutional context, the evolution of the promotion of women's issues in connection with the evolution of feminist protests since the arrival of television in Quebec in 1952 is examined until the disappearance of the Service of televised women's broadcasts in 1982; this dissertations also demonstrates how adult audiences were designed with separate interests according to gender. The hierarchy of the values ascribed by the SRC to women and men, mainly to the advantage of the latter as artisan(s), subjects, guest(s) and public, is then analyzed: first through an examination of promotion programs targeted at women, compared with the class of programming directed specifically to fathers and men; then with the examination of pressures to Femme d’aujourd’hui to be broadcast during primetime instead of the afternoon. The organizational context of the SRC is also highlighted with an emphasis on the gendered job classification, on feminist criticisms against the State Corporation, on the barriers to the effectiveness of policies of equal opportunities adopted from 1975, and the measures taken to fight against gender stereotypes in programming. Finally, power relations and the gendered division of labour within the Service of televised women's broadcasts are studied in order to underline the constraints and opportunities for women working in what is seen, by the staff attached to the type of broadcasting, as a devalued media production sector. This thesis aims to shed light on the work of women in electronic medias, taking into account both the limitations and opportunities they offered in the mediated public space, an important concept in public communication studies.

Testo completoAgainst a backdrop of crisis in cultural prescription, this thesis analyzes a professional group of public service cultural intermediaries, the music programmers at Radio France. Faced with the loss of audience for music radio stations, competition from streaming platforms and the introduction of digital technologies into the professional practices of music programming at Radio France, how are the boundaries of a public service professional group evolving ? Subjected to public service missions that give them an a priori singular role in the radio space - and more broadly in the cultural space - the study of the professional practices of Radio France's music programmers constitutes a fertile field of research for understanding the mutations of music prescription as well as the contemporary stakes of public service radio. From an interactionist perspective and with an inductive and comprehensive methodological approach, this work is based on an analysis of the "narratives of practice" of music programmers delivered in interviews, but also on interviews conducted with other professional groups involved in music programming at Radio France. Conducted between 2016 and the beginning of 2020, these interviews are complemented by the analysis of a corpus of contemporary official documents

Testo completoThis creative research thesis is based on the creative work carried out by r∆∆dio c∆∆rgo, a collective of radio creation, around the notion of the radio platform, understood as a science fiction device in the sense given by Donna Haraway, that is, a space of research-creation where Feminist Speculation, Scientific Facts (Science Fact, Science Fiction), and String Figures intertwine. This approach constitutes a collective practice that produces not only an exchange and circulation of interdisciplinary thought but also maps its own process. The thesis aims to demonstrate that the radio studio as we know it today—with its microphones, headsets, hosts who invite guests, and its technical apparatus that channels speech and sounds for the purpose of production aimed at an audience—can be approached in other ways and for other purposes. The thesis is constructed in a polyphonic manner, unfolding in two overlapping temporalities. First, through reports on artistic experiments conducted between 2017 and 2021, in which collectives live and experiment with the object of study, and where the writing adopts a particular style—a self-reflexive journal that reflects on the relationships between the participants and with the devices. In parallel, a theoretical part, written in a scientific style, observes the object of study—the radio platform—with enough distance to produce theoretical thought. This theoretical section proposes an approach to the radio platform as a device for artistic, scientific, and political research-creation, but also as a relational space for aural and emancipatory creation. The polyphonic writing thus allows for friction between artistic speculation and scientific writing, to bring forth, in the in-between, a research-creation methodology. A third voice will gradually emerge to manifest a theory-practice through the methodology. In constructing this thesis, it was necessary to weave together at least three methodological approaches. The research begins with Donna Haraway’s concept of SF (science fiction/speculative fabulation), drawing from the work of Isabelle Stengers and Didier Debaise on speculative gestures, which examine how theory can move into practice. This shift from theory to practice, through the multi-string arc offered by the concept of SF, becomes necessary when there are not yet enough scientific facts to formulate a hypothesis, requiring practice to make the object of study manifest. The other two approaches are outlined in the summarized plan. Thus, this research begins with the following speculation:What if the radio platform was a witch’s device, enabling the drawing of the circle, in the sense given by Isabelle Stengers—namely, a temporarily enclosed space that allows [eco-feminist witches] to reclaim the powers they need ?

Testo completoA double process based on archives, interviews and statistics analysis is described : the alignment of the activity on a professional example and the building up of a differenciated and self regulated environment. Tv news has inherited from the work organization of the filmed media, centered on the cameraman and the mute report. The 60's have been a transitional period and a progressive investment of the ground by the office : the cameraman becomes dependent on the editor-interviewer. The editing becomes autonomous and is in line with the model of a big press compagny. The career analysis reveals a double movement. An increasing internal staff recruitment of managers and the existence of regularities in the route within editing offices, an avoidance of the editing specialization, the frequent orientation towards program management and a colleague net structuring a professional environment. The study of exercice modes of a cameraman allows this time the description of a report market from the ground. Observations and tv news analysis shows that report concept depends on specific formats of the work context. Different devices create situation and organize co-operation between colleagues and the flow of treatment. Technical and artistic or rhetoric agreement and improvised manipulation help to clarify the subjects and help them become aesthetically pleasing, compensate lacks, protect oneself from critics and express the value of products. The tv news programming reproduces an editorial structure dependent on the production conditions. The invisible organization of activity contributes to explain the form of visible document. The out of vision images often corresponds to the work backstage and what is useful to grab viewer's attention is also useful to the liability and preservation of institution. The effect of the traitment is to generalize information, to bring out of context, and to interpret according to a definition which depends on the professional context. Abstract images or extracted images are transformed and presented in a form or style that expresses the professional process and constitutes in itself the direction basis

Testo completoDuring several decades, from the 1950’s until the beginning of the 2000’s, french night-time radio waves were filled with numerous voices, famous or anonymous, often muted and intimate. These voices matched well with the nocturnal atmosphere. Finding a refuge in this alternate space-time, they took advantage of these hours, located outside of the majority social time, to express theirselves. Night-time radio constituted a space for dreams and experimentations, meetings and dialogues, offering a support to night-time listeners, a window open to the rest of the world, the others and the intimacy. This study recounts the history of all-night french radio, throug a chronological approach, focusing on the broadcasts, their reception, as well as the imaginaries drifting around them. History of radio productions, nocturnal habits and perceptions, this thesis intend to highlight the wave night world, to distinguish its different phases and its key features. Located at the crossroad of radio history and night-time history, Micros de nuit constitutes also a contribution to an history of sensibilities for the second half of the 20th century

Testo completoIn the relationship between Rai and young adult audiences, the issue of quality plays a determinant by role. In Italy, the European country with the highest youth television consumption, audience is the dominant variable. Conversely, program quality management seems to remain in the background and presents important limitations. The first part of this thesis proposes a multidisciplinary theoretical analysis that contextualizes merits and limits of Rai's quality management on three levels: in its relationship with the State; in its internal production logics; and in its relationship with young audiences. We then present two studies referring to three Rai cultural programs. The first analyzes the expectations and qualitative perceptions of an audience of 600 young adults. After selecting 12 criteria characterizing "quality" and "viewing pleasure", we carried out a qualitative and quantitative analysis aimed at identifying expected and perceived quality and pleasure through the method of content analysis. The second study focuses instead to how professionals managing these programs pursue quality. The investigation was carried out with semi-structured interviews and with the paired comparisons method using the Condorcet criterion. This thesis not only brings out the merits and limits of the quality of cultural programs addressed to young people, but also brings together the universe of television professionals with that of the audience in a novel way, proposing an investigation method for improving and sustaining television quality

Testo completoA new media genre that appeared in the late eighties, conservative talk radio in the US has played a significant role in the country’s politics. This research explores the history of the medium from 1988 to 2010. It argues that, throughout the period, conservative talk radio has been a powerful instrument of dissent and has played a very significant role in the Republican ascendancy of the mid-1990s. First, this research revisits the political and media context of the resurgence of conservatism in the 1960s in order to situate the genre in the communication tradition of the conservative movement and entertain the argument that the emergence of conservative talk radio as a political force in the early nineties represents “conservatives’ second rendezvous with alternative media.”Second, this dissertation analyses the phases of conservative talk radio during its golden age as well as its dominant pundits. It argues that conservative talk radio shows circumvented traditional media by establishing a “special relationship” with the Republican establishment as early as Bill Clinton’s first presidential campaign in 1992. In order to define such phases, this research focuses on Rush Limbaugh as the founding figure of the genre and then concentrates on Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and Michael Savage, the new hosts who emerged at the turn of the century. Last, the form and content of conservative talk radio programs are explored in order to show how dissent is engineered. This research then analyzes the apparatus and rhetoric of the programs, focusing on those that shaped the genre and made it famous. It explores the content of the four shows comparatively in order to demonstrate that the hosts unfurl a strategy of “tailored content.”

Testo completoThis work deals with the use of an antenna array at the base station of a mobile communication system for transmission We search for techniques to combine diversity and beanforming to better exploit the antenna array. In this context, we propose propose a transmit scheme composed of a precoder acting as an interface between the transmit diversity and the antenna array. We propose two approaches to obtain this precoder, one based on the minimization of the variance of the received power at the mobile, and the other directly based on the minimization of the error rate. We also consider the multi-user case, for which we propose the joint adaptation of the precoders to minimize the total transmit power, while satisfying the users' target BERs. Compared to classical techniques, the new approaches combine diversity and beamforming and obtain in return better performances

Testo completoAspiring to “give a voice” to the poor people of Pikine, a suburb of the Senegalese capital, “Local Debate” is an interactive political programme of the community radio Air’Jeunes, created in the late nineties at the initiative of youth associations in the Dakar region with support from a major Canadian NGO. This thesis explores the use of this programme by local citizens in three main areas where activists and proponents of participatory democracy are committed to developing citizen action mechanisms, aiming to correct the defects and shortcomings under the democratic ideal of representative government: the role of citizens in the production system of local public goods, symbolic relationships between elected leaders and electors, and the public space for debate on public policies and the actions of representatives. Based on an ethnographic field study conducted in three phases between 2006 and 2011 in the radio production studio and the show’s listening sites, it appears that, even if the programme has enabled forms of contestation of local authority to be voiced publicly without mediation, the realisation of the original project faced an unfavourable local context marked by the lack of resources given to local officials to exercise their newly decentralised powers and a local political journalism polarised around two dominant forms, leaving little room for debate: the antagonistic journalism of big private groups and small informal press, and the legitimising journalism of the public service group. Despite their militant commitment to the project, radio staff and hosts whose social origins and educational backgrounds distance them from the forms of consumption of information goods and activities of Pikine’s inhabitants, as well as the dynamic activities of informal neighbourhood associations in the suburbs of Dakar, have gradually yielded to forces of attraction exercised by mainstream private radios, influencing their vision of their professional future and, in turn, their journalistic practice

Testo completoAs a wireless way to exchange information, electromagnetic waves are more omnipresent in our environment than ever. The ever increasing number of connected devices calls for a better use of the available spectrum. In the particular case of telecommunications with a projectile, which is the case of study in this thesis, communications must also be discreet and reliable, even in a hostile environment. In the general framework of telecommunications as well as in this particular field of application, antenna arrays and the dynamic spatial filtering they allow offer multiple advantages for present and future challenges. Antenna array steering requires phase coherent and phase aligned functioning from the control electronics. In a previous PhD thesis, an analog system allowed beam steering of the array embedded in a projectile towards a base station at all times during projectile flight. However, this system was only able to switch between 16 different configurations for the embedded array radiation pattern and was functional only around a 5.2 GHz working frequency. On the other hand, Software Defined Radio (SDR) uses wide-band programmable components thanks to which received or generated signals can be processed in digital baseband. Therefore, using SDR would allow for a more precise control of the radiation pattern over large frequency bandwidths. Despite these promises, this technology remains rarely used for phase coherent applications. This work hence studies possibilities provided by commercial SDR for phase coherent applications. Telecommunications with a projectile, which also require phase alignment, constitute the considered application. Linear and planar antenna arrays are studied. An antenna weighting system of 4 channels for both data reception and transmission is assembled using commercial SDR. Distinct solutions are developed for data reception or transmission in order to automate phase shift compensation between channels. Several antenna weighting and Direction of Arrival (DOA) algorithms are implemented in C++. As the available equipment does not allow the automated measurement of the radiation pattern of antenna arrays when steered by SDR, a dedicated experimental setup is proposed. The developed system performance is then quantified in an anechoic environment for arrays of different geometries, and working frequencies from 2.3 to 5.2 GHz. Depending on the measured array, the main lobe or null can be steered within 60 to more than 100° along 1 or 2 dimensions. The implemented algorithms are also used to develop a projectile tracking station based on DOA estimation of the transmitter embedded in the projectile. The resulting station is tested with several projectiles flying at a speed close to Mach 1. The projectiles are electronically followed by the system as expected from simulations. The signal to noise ratio of the station combined signals is superior to that of a single element signal by more than 5 dB, and transmitted flight data is correctly decoded

Testo completoThe knowledge on the origin of Radio Halos (Rhs), Mpc-scale low surface brightness diffuse radio emission observed in massive galaxy clusters, has moved towards a general consensus on the recent years. The generally accepted scenario for the mechanism responsible of this kind of diffuse emission is the re-acceleration of relativistic electrons by the turbulence generated in cluster mergers. On this framework, it is expected from models that a larger fraction of RH occurrence may appear at z=0.3-0.4. However, radio observations of galaxy clusters in this redshift regime are still limited. The MACS-Planck Radio Halo Cluster Project has the aim of exploring the origin and occurrence of RHs, as well as their connection with the dynamical state of the host systems by exploring a higher redshift range than previous studies. In this thesis, I present the published data of the ATCA subsample of the project and prospects for the future work

Testo completoSports broadcasting rights are governed by a complex legal code in constant evolution. The notion that the organizer retains exclusive rights to the use of the sporting event, which legitimizes the commercialization of these rights, is the cornerstone of the system. Identifying the entities that hold the rights is not easy as the owner does not systematically retain commercialization rights. The approach to bringing broadcasting to market must be clarified due to the overlapping of legal domains. In this case, the commercialization of rights is outlined in a contract whose legal characteristics must be specified in accordance with the different denominations involved. The context in which the contract is drawn up cannot be ignored as it allows one to understand how its legal reality is taken into account by the right to information as well as related contracts. This dissertation looks at the legal implications of audiovisual broadcasting rights of sporting events, from the commercialization phase to the contract. Several complementary legal fields are linked to the research on sports broadcasting rights, thus strengthening its originality

Testo completoFor many neurobiological studies, it is necessary to link microscopic aspects of the brain's organisation with integrated brain functions. Details of the former are obtained by in vitro and in situ molecular biology techniques, whereas the latter are acquired through behavioural studies. In vivo radio-imaging methods, like emission tomography, are the ideal tools to investigate the links between these two levels of brain organisation. The work which is presented here focuses on a new approach of emission tomography adapted to small animal studies: TOHR (french acronym for TOmographe Haute Résolution). The principle is based on the use of a large solid angle, high resolution and high efficiency focusing collimator. High resolution and high signal to noise ratio are improved by using nuclides having a two-photon decay with small angular correlation (125I, 123I, 111In,. . . ). The image is built step-by-step, by moving the animal relative to the collimator focal point. First, numerical simulations showed the possibility of reaching sub-rnillimetric resolutions; these results led to the collimator geometry (at present 10 over the 20 faces of an icosahedron, 15 faces in the future). Then, a prototype of TOHR has been built and characterised. Its performance is very close to the numerical predictions : spatial resolution of 1,4 mm and detection efficiency of 0,64 %. Finally, experiments on a rat thyroid allowed the preparation and realisation of the first experiments on a rat striatum. The good quality of these images shows that it is now possible to evaluate TOHR capabilities on a dopaminergic neuron degeneration model in rats, in the field of neurodegenerative disease studies

Testo completoStudying the electromagnetic field around neutron stars is one of the vital methods to understand the physics of the pulsars. While major literature uses assumption of a standard centred dipolar electromagnetic field, recent studies have focused on including higher multipolar field components and have presented a more generalized picture for pulsars in which the magnetic dipole moment is shifted off from the centre of the star. This work discusses the consequences of an off centred rotating magnetic dipole in vacuum by showing various characteristic features of magnetic field lines and pulsar emission. A broadband spectrum study of pulsar radiation is also laid out by creating maps of different emission regions of pulsars distinguished on the basis of their frequency with the main aim of looking for the evolution of the pulse profile with frequency. The thesis presents all the above results accompanied by the necessary discussions to understand the theoretical models used and the details of the numerical methods applied

Testo completoNeutron stars are very dense objects, denser than an atomic nucleus, formed during a supernova. A typical neutron star concentrates a mass superior to the one of the Sun in its diameter of around twenty kilometers. According to general relativity, which describes gravity as a space-time distorsion, the gravitational field of those stars should have a non-negligible impact on electromagnetic radiations close to them. During my thesis, I have simulated radio and high-energy emission originating from particules accelerated along the magnetic field lines of the neutron star inside the Schwarzschild metric to have an insight of how this kind of radiations would be affected by space-time distorsions in the vicinity of the neutron star

Testo completoIn this study, the affinity enhancement system is proposed with nuclear imaging using gallium-68. This work is presented in two parts. The first part investigates new chemistry system used N,N′-(o-phenylene)dimalemide to produce a bispecific antibody which targets a tumour antigen and a hapten. The second part evaluates radiolabel and radiochemistry properties of 68Ga complexes using two chelators in order to radiolabel divalent hapten named di-HSGL. Synthesise optimisations show that the optimal digestion of antibody is realized with 5 % of pepsin (p/p). F(ab')2 reduction studies indicate that cysteamine, a soft powerful reducing agent, is enough to reduce disulfide bonds and does protect the integrity of created Fab'. Eventually, the affinity studies of the new divalent vector confirm the good affinity constants to both antigen and hapten. The second part presents radiochemistry studies of DOTA and HBED chelators for 68Ga. They show HBED is more interesting than DOTA to radiolabel hapten with 68Ga. Radiolabel is made at room temperature. Its specific activity is better than DOTA's one. Radiolabel rate and method optimization should allow to inject the final product without purification stage
