Abstract (sommario):

This study examines the performance of three heat pump dryers: the original reference design, a modified drying chamber, and an external desiccant wheel design. Unlike most existing studies that normally adopt organic products as the drying materials, in this study we used moist sodium polyacrylate (Orbeez) as the drying material for consistent characterization of the heat pump performance. R-134a was adopted as the refrigerant for the heat pump system. The experiments were performed subject to different weights of Orbeez (drying material) at a constant volumetric flow rate of 100 m3/h. During experimentation, different parameters like the coefficient of performance (COPHP), drying rate, heat transfer rate by the condenser, moisture extraction rate, and specific moisture extraction rate were calculated. The average COPHP, mass transfer rate, heat transfer rate, MER, and SMER of the system were calculated as 3.9, 0.30 kg/s, 0.56 kW, 0.495 kg/h, and 1.614 kg/kWh, respectively. The maximum COP for the refrigeration system was achieved at lower test loads with the desiccant wheel. The moisture extraction rate for a lower test loading was higher than that for a higher test load due to the higher penetration of drying air at the lower test load, although the maximum test load showed the maximum relative humidity at the dryer outlet. The desiccant wheel showed good performance in terms of moisture extraction rate and COPHP, but it showed poor performance in terms of the specific moisture extraction rate due to the high power consumption (around 2.6 kW) of the desiccant dehumidifier. The moisture extraction rate (MER) for all designs increased to a maximum value, followed by consistent decline. However, the maximum MER for the desiccant design exceeded those for the other designs.

Unlike genomics which study specifically culturable microorganisms, metagenomics is a field that studies microorganic samples retrieved directly from the environment. Such samples produce widely varying fragments when sequenced, many of which are still unidentified or unknown. Assembly of these fragments in the goals of identifying the species contained among them are thus prone to make said goals more difficult, so it becomes necessary for binning techniques to come in handy while trying to classify these mixed fragments onto certain levels in the phylogenetic tree. This research attempts to implement algorithms and methods such as k-mers to use for feature extraction, linear discriminant analysis (LDA) for dimensionality reduction, and agglomerative hierarchical clustering (AGNES) for taxonomic classification to the genus level. Experimentation is done across different objective measurements, including the length of the observed metagenome fragment that spans from 0,5 Kbp up to 10 Kbp for both the 3-mer and 4-mer contexts (k = 3 and k = 4). The averaged validity scores of the resulting data clusters generated from both the training and test sets, computed with the silhouette index metric, are 0.6945 and 0.0879 for the 3-mer context, along with 0.5219 and 0.1884 for the 4-mer context.

Music, the third art that has accompanied the development of human civilization, has played a vital role in human expression of emotions from ancient times to the present. It has played a vital role in human expression of emotions from ancient times to the present. This study describes three different ways of musical emotional extraction within the current research field: a. Extraction by measuring the physiological characteristics of the subject; b. text feature extraction by analyzing lyrics in songs and c. extraction by analyzing audio features. This paper also discusses the research results of three different groups of researchers to use specific emotions for music creation by designing and applying the GA based on KTH rule system, the mLSMN with logistic regression, and the MAgentM framework. The purpose of this research is to provide reference materials for subsequent researchers through the detailed introduction of the MER method, and to provide industry stakeholders with an outlook for the music industry.

Aim: Quantitative LC–MS analysis of oligonucleotides (OGNs) in biological matrices is needed to support candidate selection of new therapeutic OGNs. Methodology & results: A set of 20 single stranded antisense oligonucleotides (ASO) and five siRNAs were extracted from plasma and tissue homogenates. Anion Exchange (AEX) SPE was selected as generic extraction approach, resulting in recoveries from plasma >70%. Extraction from tissue homogenates showed often more variation and lower recoveries. A proof of concept of a novel tailored hybridization extraction is demonstrated for two 16-mer reference OGNs. Conclusion: Two methods for extraction of OGNs were investigated and applied for quantitative analysis. The AEX-SPE is considered a more generic approach preferred when multiple compounds are evaluated. Hybridization extraction has great potential but critical reagents per analyte are needed.

Abstract (sommario):

This paper analyzed the drying process of the household gas clothes dryer (GCD) based on the principle of heat and mass transfer. The drying models in three scenarios were established: natural gas burned in combustion chamber, ambient air mixed with exhausted gas in hot gas duct, and clothes were dried in the drying drum. The simulation of the drying process was performed on MATLAB software. And the effectiveness of the drying model was verified by comparison with experiment results. The effects of gas flow rate, dry mass of clothes, ambient temperature, ambient humidity, textile type, and moisture extraction rate (MER) on the performance of dryers were studied. This paper provided a theoretical basis for the design and optimization of GCDs. It was found that the drying time of the gas clothes dryer was mostly affected by the gas flow and dry mass of clothes, and the specific moisture extraction rate (SMER) was mostly affected by the ambient temperature and relative humidity. The nylon clothes have the fastest MER and the smallest SMER. Moreover, reducing operating time in falling-rate drying period can improve energy efficiency.

Aim: The importance of the length and/or structure of fluorescently labeled PNA (peptide nucleic acid) probes for quantitative determination of oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) is demonstrated in human plasma using hybridization-based LC-fluorescence assays. The length of the PNA probes impacts the peak shape and chromatographic separation of the resulting PNA/ODN hybridization complexes and affects assay sensitivity, dynamic range and carryover. Methods: For quantitative determination of an 18-mer phosphodiester ODN (DNL1818) in human plasma, an assay utilizing an Atto dye-labeled 12-mer PNA probe provided a linear quantitation range of 0.1–50 ng/ml with excellent accuracy and precision (within -5.3–7.73%). Conclusion: This method provides a convenient method for sensitive and specific quantification of ODNs in biological matrix with limited sample volume and no special extraction.

Nous nous intéressons au problème d’extraction du fouillis de mer dans des images radar marin. Le parti pris est de développer des méthodes de traitement d’image permettant de s’affranchir au mieux d’hypothèses sur la nature du fouillis de mer et du signal d’intérêt. D’une part, nous proposons un algorithme basé sur une approche variationnelle originale : un modèle multiphasique à interface diffuse. Les résultats obtenus montrent que l’algorithme est efficace lorsque le signal d’intérêt a un rapport signal-sur-fouillis suffisamment grand. D’autre part, nous nous intéressons à l’implémentation de schémas de Boltzmann sur réseau pour des problèmes de convection-diffusion à vitesse d’advection non constante et un terme source non nul. Nous décrivons le calcul de la consistance obtenue par analyse asymptotique à l’échelle acoustique et avec un opérateur de collision à temps de relaxation multiples, et étudions la stabilité de ces schémas dans un cas particulier. Les résultats obtenus montrent que les schémas proposés permettent de supprimer le bruit résiduel et de renforcer le signal d’intérêt sur l’image obtenue grâce à la première méthode. Enfin, nous proposons une méthode d’apprentissage permettant de s’affranchir d’hypothèses sur la nature du signal d’intérêt. En effet, en complément de l’algorithme par approche variationnelle, nous proposons un algorithme basé sur le traitement pulse-Doppler lorsque le signal d’intérêt est exo-clutter et a un rapport signal-sur-fouillis faible. Les résultats obtenus à partir du double auto-encodeur que nous proposons, étant comparables aux résultats fournis par chacune des deux méthodes, permettent de valider cette approche
We focus on the problem of sea clutter extraction in marine radar images. The aim is to develop image processing methods allowing us to avoid assumptions about the nature of the sea clutter and the signal of interest. On the one hand, we propose an original algorithm based on a variational approach : a multiphase model with diffuse interface. The results obtained show that the algorithm is efficient when the signal of interest has a sufficiently large signal-to-clutter ratio. On the other hand, we focus on the implementation of lattice Boltzmann schemes for convection-diffusion problems with non-constant advection velocity and non-zero source term. We describe the computation of the consistency obtained by asymptotic analysis at the acoustic scale and with a multiple relaxation time collision operator, and study the stability of these schemes in a particular case. The obtained results show that the proposed schemes allow removing the residual noise and to enhance the signal of interest on the image obtained with the first method. Finally, we propose a learning method allowing us to avoid assumptions on the nature of the signal of interest. Indeed, in addition to the variational approach, we propose an algorithm based on pulse-Doppler processing when the signal of interest is exo-clutter and has a low signal-to-clutter ratio. The results obtained from the proposed double auto-encoder, being comparable to the results provided by each of the two methods, allow validating this approach

Notre etude a pour objectif de proposer des voies d'amelioration d'un radar de patrouille maritime, dans le cadre de la detection de petites embarcations, dans un fouillis de mer forte. La detection radar, a incidence rasante, lorsque la mer est agitee et que les vagues commencent a deferler, est une tache ardue ; il s'agit, en effet, de distinguer des cibles de petites tailles, parmi des echos de mer tres puissants. Les spikes, ces pointes de fouillis de mer, qui se detachent sur un fond de niveau plus faible, sont tres semblables au type de cibles recherchees. Ainsi provoquent-ils des fausses alarmes qui genent la detection. Notre etude a consiste, dans un premier temps, a realiser une analyse bibliographique et experimentale du fouillis de mer. Les mecanismes de retrodiffusion ont ete passes en revue. Ils ont permis de mieux apprehender l'analyse de l'amplitude du fouillis de mer et de sa phase (doppler). Dans un deuxieme temps, apres avoir cerne les limitations des traitements radar actuels et etudie les reponses au probleme de la detection, apportees dans la litterature, nous avons mis en place un detecteur radar, mieux adapte a la discrimination des spikes, qui utilise leurs caracteristiques, mises en evidence dans la premiere partie. Enfin, de maniere a tester les detecteurs implementes, nous avons developpe un simulateur de fouillis de mer a incidence rasante, coherent, qui reproduit le mecanisme imageur du radar de patrouille maritime.

Le but de cette thèse était de développer une méthode d'étalonnage dans le cadre du radar transhorizon NOSTRADAMUS afin d'établir sa capacité de détection en s'affranchissant des limitations liées à la propagation dans l'ionosphère. Cette méthode est fondée sur une analyse spectrale du fouillis de mer et permet d'estimer un paramètre étalon : le coefficient de réflectivité de la mer. La connaissance de ce coefficient permet de déterminer la surface équivalente radar d'une cible susceptible d'être détectée par transposition du bilan énergétique de la mer à celui de cette cible. Ce processus permet alors de prédire les performances du radar en terme de détectabilité. Outre l'analyse spectrale de l'écho de mer, l'étude de l'ionosphère a été indissociable des travaux à mener. En effet, l'ionosphère est un milieu instable qui peut dégrader le spectre.

Les progrès technologiques en systèmes de localisation (AIS, radar, GPS, RFID, etc.), de télétransmission (VHF, satellite, GSM, etc.), en systèmes embarqués et leur faible coût de production a permis leur déploiement à une large échelle. Énormément de données sur les déplacements d'objets sont produites par le biais de ces technologies et utilisées dans diverses applications de surveillance temps-réel comme la surveillance du trafic maritime. L'analyse a posteriori des données de déplacement de navires et d'événements à risques peut présenter des perspectives intéressantes pour la compréhension et l'aide à la modélisation des comportements à risques. Dans ce travail de thèse une méthodologie basée sur la fouille de données spatio-temporelle est proposée pour l'extraction de connaissances sur les comportements potentiellement à risques de navires. Un atelier d'aide à l'analyse de comportements de navires fondé sur cette méthodologie est aussi proposé
The advent of positioning system technologies (AIS, radar, GPS, RFID, etc.), remote transmission (VHF, satellite, GSM, etc.), technological advances in embedded systems and low cost production, has enabled their deployment on a large scale. A huge amount of moving objects data are collected through these technologies and used in various applications such as real time monitoring surveillance of maritime traffic. The post-hoc analysis of data from moving ships and risk events may present interesting opportunities for the understanding and modeling support of risky behaviors. In this work, we propose a methodology based on Spatio-Temporal Data Mining for the knowledge discovery about potentially risky behaviors of ships. Based on this methodology, a workshop to support the analysis of behavior of ships is also proposed

Les radars HF à ondes de surface (HFSWR) trouvent des applications dans la surveillance maritime, l'océanographie ou la détection de cibles. Ils utilisent des ondes HF qui se propagent sur la surface de la mer jusqu'à quelques centaines de km. Néanmoins, ils sont récents et encore peu opérationnels à cause de quelques inconvénients. L'objectif de cette thèse est de résoudre deux de ces inconvénients pour améliorer les performances des HFSWR. Tout d'abord, en réduisant la taille des antennes HF usuelles qui sont beaucoup trop grandes. Pour des raisons pratiques et pour envisager des configurations radars embarquées, il est nécessaire de créer une antenne HF compacte pouvant répondre aux cahier des charges du HFSWR. Deuxième préoccupation, les ondes HF et les vagues interagissent et créent des échos de mer élevés qui peuvent masquer des échos de cibles éventuelles. Le second objectif de cette thèse est donc de réduire ces échos marins gênants par une méthode de filtrage adaptatif.

Le travail présenté dans ce manuscrit porte sur l’isolement exhaustif de métabolites issus d’éponges marines récoltées sur la côte de Nouvelle Géorgie des îles Salomon en juillet 2004. Un total de 65 molécules ont été isolées des éponges Petrosia (Petrosia) crassa, Amorphinopsis excavans et Stylissa carteri. Dix sont des nouveaux composés. Le sarasinoside B4, un nouveau produit isolé de l’éponge Amorphinopsis excavans, est un épimère du sarasinoside B1. Les stylissazoles A-I ont été isolées de l’éponge Stylissa carteri. En outre, les stylissazoles A-E ont une activité kinase et appartiennent à une nouvelle classe de pyrroles-2- aminioimidazoles dont les liaisons reliant les monomères sont exclusivement entre les azotes et les carbones. Ce nouveau mode de dimérisation donne une nouvelle dimension à la diversité moléculaire des pyrroles-2-imidazoles. Ce travail de recherche a permis d’approfondir nos connaissances sur les pyrrole-2- aminoimidazoles et de mettre à jour une nouvelle hypothèse de biogénèse des pyrrole-2-aminoimidazoles
The work described in this manuscript deals with the exhaustive isolation of marine metabolites from marine sponges collected from the coast of New Georgie in Solomon Islands. A total of 65 compounds were isolated from Petrosia (Petrosia) crassa, Amorphinopsis excavans and Stylissa carteri, out if which 10 new compounds were identified. Sarasinoside B4, a new product isolated from Amorphinopsis excavans is an epimer of sarasinoside B1. Stylissazoles A-I were isolated from Stylissa carteri. Stylissazoles A-E have kinase activites and belongs to a new subclass of pyrrole-2-aminoimidazoles dimers, which have exclusively N-C bond between the two monomers. This new subclass of molecules constitute additional mode of dimerization and add another dimension to the molecular diversity of pyrrole-2- aminoimidazoles. This research work allowed us to deepen our knowledge about pyrrole-2-aminoimidazoles and update the universal biogenetic pathway proposed previously for pyrrole-2-aminoimidazoles

La mer côtière est le siège d'activités anthropiques multiples, parfois concurrentes, interagissant avec l'environnement naturel. La compréhension des interactions entre ces activités et le milieu est un objectif majeur de la recherche pour l'aide au développement durable des sociétés humaines. Dans ce contexte, il est notamment indispensable de se focaliser sur les modalités d'utilisation et d'exploitation du milieu par l'Homme. Cela répond à un fort besoin des scientifiques, qui cherchent à évaluer la part de l'activité humaine dans l'évolution des écosystèmes, et des gestionnaires en quête d'informations permettant une vision globale et interdisciplinaire du territoire. Dans ce cadre, le milieu marin pose des problèmes spécifiques. Sur cet espace ouvert, la lisibilité des phénomènes liés aux activités humaines est d'autant plus complexe. Une méthodologie visant à analyser le système est donc proposée. Elle consiste à réaliser une description du déroulement des activités humaines dans l'espace et dans le temps grâce à l'utilisation de filtres spatio-temporels. Cette approche fournit les bases d'une modélisation conceptuelle et logique des usages anthropiques intégrable au sein d'un simulateur de la Dynamique des Activités HUmaines (DAHU). L'exploitation des résultats via un SIG permet la restitution de représentations spatio-temporelles pertinentes et constitue ainsi une information synthétique utile à une gestion concertée de la mer côtière.

L'incidence rasante est un problème spécifique, qui apparaît notamment lorsqu'une antenne est placée sur un mât (télécommunications, défense...) ou sur la côte (surveillance environnementale ou militaire de l'espace maritime). Elle rend la modélisation du problème de diffraction difficile, de par le faible niveau de rétrodiffusion et l'importance de phénomènes complexes comme la diffusion multiple. La question reste importante même si l'écho est très faible, puisqu'il est potentiellement suffisant pour perturber le bon fonctionnement de systèmes antennaires microondes sur un navire. Il porte de plus des informations intéressantes sur l'état de la mer, comme cela a été démontré aux bandes HF et VHF. Un modèle rigoureux de diffraction tridimensionnelle précédemment développé est étendu au calcul des quatre polarisations fondamentales (polarisations Horizontale et Verticale des ondes incidente et réfléchie). Il permet désormais de prendre en compte la conductivité finie de la surface, point crucial dans le cas d'une polarisation incidente Verticale. L'opérateur hyper-singulier impliqué dans l'équation intégrale discrétisée par la méthode des moments est étudié pour évaluer la précision des calculs numériques.Les méthodes approchées de diffraction permettent des calculs numériques beaucoup plus rapides, et sont donc en pratique incontournables. Le modèle rigoureux est donc utilisé, en conjonction avec des données expérimentales, pour servir de référence permettant d'étudier la précision, en incidence rasante et dans le cas de la surface de la mer, de ces méthodes approchées. Nous étudions en particulier la méthode à deux échelles GOSSA, et proposons une correction à son comportement aux angles rasants.Le mouvement de la surface de la mer crée un décalage de fréquence radar dans l'onde rétrodiffusée (effet Doppler), décalage mesuré expérimentalement et que l'algorithme de méthode des moments permet de simuler. Nous étudions par des simulations bidimensionnelles l'évolution du décalage Doppler micro onde avec l'incidence, et l'influence des nonlinéarités de la surface de la mer. Le comportement limite en incidence rasante est précisé, et les contributions respectives des phénomènes électromagnétiques et hydrodynamiques discutées.

The purpose of this master thesis was to investigate how eﬃecient the extractionof radiofrequency quality metrics from digital video broadcast (DVB) streamscan become using software deﬁned radio. Software deﬁned radio (SDR) is a fairlynew technology that oﬀers you the possibility of very ﬂexible receivers and transmitters where it is possible to upgrade the modulation and demodulation overtime. Agama is interested in SDR for use in the Agama Analyzer, a widely deployedmonitoring probe running on top of standard services. Using SDR, Agama coulduse that in all deployments, such as DVB by cable/terrestrial/satellite (DVBC/T/S), which would simplify logistics. This thesis is an implementation of a SDR to be able to receive DVB-C. TheSDR must perform a number of adaptive algorithms in order to prevent the received symbols from being signiﬁcantly diﬀerent from the transmitted ones. Themain parts of the SDR include timing recovery, carrier recovery and equalization.Timing recovery performs synchronization between the transmitted and receivedsymbols and the carrier recovery performs synchronization between the carrierwave of the transmitter and the local oscillator in the receiver. The thesis discusses various methods to perform the diﬀerent types of synchronizations andequalizations in order to ﬁnd the most suitable methods.

In this study, the effects of drying temperature (70, 80, 90°C) and air velocity (0.5, 1.8 m/s) of hot air drying (tray drying) on quality of dried 2-phase olive pomace and system’s energy efficiency were investigated. The drying experiments were carried out in a tray dryer. The effects of drying conditions were evaluated with analyzing drying time, the primary and secondary oxidation and calculating specific moisture extraction rate (SMER), moisture extraction rate (MER) and specific energy consumption (SEC). The results showed that increase in drying temperature and decrease in air velocity led to decrease in quality of dried olive pomace. Genetic analysis and mapping in grapes has been difficult because of the long generation period and paucity of genetic markers. In the present work, chromosome linkage maps were developed with RAPD, RFLP and isozyme loci in interspecific hybrid cultivars, and RAPD markers were produced in a V. vinifera population. In three cultivars, there were 19 linkage groups as expected for a species with 38 somatic chromosomes. These maps were used to locate chromosome regions with linkages to important genes, including those influencing powdery mildew and botrytis bunch rot resistance; flower sex; and berry shape. In V. vinifera, the occurrence of specific markers was correlated with seedlessness, muscat flavor and fruit color. Polymorphic RAPD bands included single copy as well as repetitive DNA. Mapping procedures were improved by optimizing PCR parameters with grape DNA; by the development of an efficient DNA extraction protocol; and with the use of long (17- to 24-mer) primers which amplify more polymorphic loci per primer. DNA fingerprint analysis with RAPD markers indicated that vinifera cultivars could be separated readily with RAPD profiles. Pinot gris, thought to be a sort of Pinot noir, differed by 12 bands from Pinot noir. This suggests that while Pinot gris may be related to Pinot noir, it is not likely to be a clone. The techniques developed in this project are now being further refined to use marker-assisted selection in breeding programs for the early selection of elite seedlings. Furthermore, the stage has been set for future attempts to clone genes from grapes based upon map locations.
