Abstract (sommario):
This paper aims to present new evidence and findings that enhance and enrich the knowledge of the preferences and uses of the remote laboratories from the students´ viewpoint. Specifically, the study aims to recognize the students’ preferences in selecting the remote lab as a learning resource, beyond the uses promoted by the professorship. Likewise, we seek to know the reasons given by students that support those preferences. The research was conducted at Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, Ingeniería y Agrimensura (FCEIA), Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR), Argentina, by using the “FCEIA-UNR Electronics Physics Remote Lab” and involving almost 300 students in the second year of Electronic Engineering. The lab is integrated into the Learning Management System (LMS) e-ducativa, Facebook and Twitter, allowing the students to log in without additional authentication, both from the virtual classroom or from those social networks. We collected empirical evidence from both, users' opinions and productions, and also, from registers of the remote lab itself, involving more than 4000 successful tests completed on the lab´s database. We achieved both qualitative and quantitative data that allow us to get a comprehensive study from the students’ perspective.

Abstract (sommario):
During the pandemic, when people needed to physically distance, social media platforms have been one of the outlets where people expressed their opinions, thoughts, sentiments, and emotions regarding the pandemic situation. The core object of this research study is the sentiment analysis of peoples’ opinions expressed on Facebook regarding the current pandemic situation in low-resource languages. To do this, we have created a large-scale dataset comprising of 10,742 manually classified comments in the Albanian language. Furthermore, in this paper we report our efforts on the design and development of a sentiment analyser that relies on deep learning. As a result, we report the experimental findings obtained from our proposed sentiment analyser using various classifier models with static and contextualized word embeddings, that is, fastText and BERT, trained and validated on our collected and curated dataset. Specifically, the findings reveal that combining the BiLSTM with an attention mechanism achieved the highest performance on our sentiment analysis task, with an F1 score of 72.09%.

Abstract (sommario):
The main purpose of this study is to assess the impact of the pandemic on online shopping in the case of Kosovo. Cunningham (2019) states that online shopping is an e-commerce activity that involves buying items on a seller’s website through a credit or debit card and delivering the item to your home with online shopping, customers buy items from anywhere in the world through a digital platform. The data used are primary, collected through the online questionnaire and it was distributed using social media Facebook, Instagram, and Gmail to a random sample of 500 respondents from Kosovo. We have concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a positive impact on online shopping because, based on the results we have obtained, online shopping has increased during this period. Online shopping clearly shows that consumers’ attitudes and behaviors have changed rapidly, but the pandemic had not increased their confidence in online shopping. This is especially true for developed countries, where every store has its website from which to buy, and India seems to have adopted this trend very fast compared to Pakistan (Bashir, Mehboob, & Bhatti, 2015). The most demanded products besides food, and hygiene, there was a great demand for clothing, electronic and technological equipment, books, and others. Regardless of how many advantages we can have from online shopping, traditional shopping is still what Kosovar consumers prefer to practice. The paper also suggests some recommendations regarding online shopping in Kosovo

Abstract (sommario):
The article aims to present the implementation of the national census carried out in Poland in 2021 as a process, with particular attention devoted to the challenges that national censuses pose for official statistics. The paper also focuses on how the organiser of the census – Statistics Poland – addressed the problems reported during the survey. The significance of the census results as a source of information was also discussed. The research was based on a case study, which allowed an in-depth analysis of the census process. The results of the analysis show that the problems which occurred in the National Population and Housing Census 2021 were similar to those identified in the previous editions of the survey, such as questions relating to sensitive information and the potential ways in which the answers to this type of queries could be further processed. What is more, maintaining the digital (electronic) form of the census (the paper forms were abandoned in favour of the digital form in 2011) and the introduction of the Internet-based self-enumeration as the primary form of the survey, applicable to all its participants, created additional challenges, related to some respondents’ lack of digital skills or limited access to the Internet. Statistics Poland offered a variety of forms of contact with the society and addressed Internet users’ questions on an ongoing basis, mainly through information campaigns, which included using social media, and by directly responding to Facebook users’ comments. The conducted analysis provides a useful insight as to how reliable data could be collected in a census, particularly with the use of the Internet.

Buchanan, Margot A. "Privacy and power in social space : Facebook". Thesis, University of Stirling, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1893/9150.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
In this thesis I examine the impact of interaction and participation on Facebook between private individuals and certain hierarchical groups in society, particularly with regard to individual privacy; consider the structure of Facebook’s privacy programming; and seek to establish where the balance of power lies between private individuals and commercial, political and media organisations. I make reference to Foucault’s theory of power, Bourdieu’s theories of power in social space and habitus and Althusser’s theory of interpellation as I record my research. This thesis is a qualitative research project, and I employ Critical Discourse Analysis as the principal research methodology. I focus on four cases studies: Facebook both as the internet platform which facilitates such interaction and the company which operates it; the developers of applications, such as online games, which are mounted on the platform; the network’s use by political parties and their leaders during the UK 2010 General Election campaign; and traditional media platforms as represented by two television annual ‘events’. My findings relate the manner in which individual users are constantly prompted to upload content, principally personal information, thoughts, preferences and relationships to the network, and simultaneously are pressurised into granting access to this information as they seek to fully participate on the social platform. This pressure is applied through applications that are mounted on the platform by commercial, media and political organisations, and I find that Facebook’s affordances to applications developers are instrumental in this process. My research associates these processes with the aforementioned theories of Foucault, Althusser and Bourdieu. My conclusion is that while Facebook continually revises its privacy policy to grant private individuals control over the content, that is the personal information, they upload to the social network, access to this information is a prerequisite for their full participation in the network. Facebook’s continuous introduction of new programmes ensures that private individuals have to choose between interaction and participation on the social network, or exclusion as access to many of the activities it offers is conditional on third party access to their personal information. Further pressure to grant access to the required information is applied through the ability of organisations to feature photographs of users’ Friends who are already using the relevant application. The processes indicate that Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg is slowly progressing his aim to place the social network at the centre of a newly structured Web based on private individuals.

Abstract: The present work has as its main objective to understand the narratives produced by young students, users of an online social network, Facebook, considering the language productions as from their feelings. There is also the interest of putting into discussion the application of these technologies to the education of contents more related to the resignifications of the contemporary school. In order to fulfill the proposed objective, it was necessary the dialogue between literatures in the field of Psychology and Education and the approach of the theoretical framework used upon getting in touch with the young people - students from the high school at the Federal Institute of Paraná - Campus Jacarezinho. In their narratives produced on Facebook, needs of speaking about themselves through their own speeches and by the ones already produced by their peers are recorded. Feelings expressed in posts that mean their emotional aspects, things that affect them and how others affect them. Such productions, that is to say, their beliefs, feelings, overflows, relief, produced on the social networks, allow us to think about the social network as a place of alterity, for the construction of identities in the light of the other, of their speakers. Underlay under the procedures of the investigation, the teaching projects as from the transversatily are shown as an interesting pattern for the integral education of the students that aims for the increase of the works merely directed to the cognitive issues, but that can take into consideration the affectivity as a strategy in the school activities including all levels of teaching. The suggestion of this pattern requires, nevertheless, a bigger investment on the dialogue between the action implemented in schools of basic education, the interests of students and teachers and the academic reflection... Abstract (sommario):
This study aimed to provide public relations professions with insight into the use of Social Customer Relationship Marketing as a marketing 2.0 tool which delivers the potential to elicit the opportunity for organisations to monitor, engage and manage conversations and relationships through Facebook. Drawing on literature from the fields such as new media, public relations, social customer relationship marketing, and public relations, a qualitative content analysis of case studies of selected organisations was conducted including 10 South African organisations that have incorporated Facebook into their Social Customer Relationship Marketing strategies. The content analysis was conducted to determine the amount of communications taking place on each fan page in order to support the data and provide additional insight into the research question, primary data was collected through two survey questionnaires of, firstly, social media users who subscribe to an organisation‘s Facebook page and, secondly, a survey conducted among the social organisations. Surveys were conducted to firstly determine the social organisations interactions with Facebook as secondly, to determine the social media users‘ interactions with the Facebook. The study found that the majority of the organisations under study in the content analysis successfully elicited user generated conversations about the brand, through content that was advocated by the organisations Facebook administrator. It is also evident as seen in the minority of organisations that these platforms are only likely to elicit consumer- driven dialogue on Facebook if the platform is managed effectively through initiated daily conversations about the brand. The continuous involvement by the administrator in encouraging conversations was necessary, as well as response to all wall posts by the social customer, participation in all conversations by providing accurate information to customers and potential customers about the brand. Conclusions from the survey questionnaires among the social identified the social customers need to be communicated with pro-actively by an organisations who can provide, through collaborative conversations, information pertaining to the brand in real time conversation, while the survey among the social organisation concluded the need for an organisation to not only create a social media footprint, but to allow for a space in which through conversation with the social customer, conversations can turn into relationships.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examined college student motivations for using social networking sites for educational purposes. Motives were examined through the uses and gratifications approach. If we can determine student motivations for using social networking sites, perhaps we can determine a way to successfully implement social networking sites into the classroom. By adding the concept of satisfaction, we can also determine if students will use the sites again. If students are satisfied with educational social networking site use, they will return to these sites for educational purposes again. Data was collected by giving a questionnaire to undergraduate students that assessed social networking site use, as well as motivations for and satisfaction with use. For general uses, students were motivated to use social networking sites for relationship maintenance, passing time, and information seeking purposes. Overall, students were satisfied with their use of the sites. For educational uses, students were motivated to use the sites for relationship maintenance and information seeking purposes. Overall, students are not satisfied with their use of these sites for educational purposes. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Venter, Doreen Yvonne. "Personality traits and self-presentation on Facebook: a systematic review". Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/13272.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The influence of the Internet and Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) on the ways in which individuals with different personality traits present themselves, has been brought into question increasingly as modern life requires more and more of an enmeshment with technology in everyday life. The presentation of the self on Facebook has been the focus of recent research, delivering results that vary and sometimes contradict common ideas of the effects of individuals’ interaction via technology, especially in terms of how personality traits, as determined by the Five-factor model, impact self-presentation. A systematic review of the available literature was conducted, in order to bring about a consolidated description of the literature on the impact of personality traits on Facebook self-presentation. From 37 studies, the review found the motivation for Facebook use to be a mediating factor in the relationship between personality traits. Each personality trait in the Five-factor model impacts upon Facebook use, self-generated content, other-generated content, and the nature of the individual’s self-disclosure in varied ways. Due to visible cues on users’ profiles, some personality traits can be accurately detected by observers. The complexity and interrelatedness of variables involved in this relationship is highlighted by the findings of this review.

Abstract (sommario):
There has been much research conducted into the phenomenon of online social networking. However, there has not been enough research conducted to establish its affect on our overall communication patterns. This research study focuses on the way in which Facebook is redefining perceptions of public and private communication. Using the current body of research paired with a varied theoretical backing, this research establishes Facebook's affect on the communication of college students while also noting how the users affect the way this medium is used. Focus groups at a private University were conducted to establish current uses and perceptions of Facebook and how college students utilize the site to communicate. The research discovered that through Facebook, a new version of confessing one's thoughts has been established and intensified. Also, the research discovered that students had difficulty in defining their own versions of private and public information, but they understood that the line between the two is no longer distinct.

Abstract (sommario):
This study discusses Facebook as a social network site and a social media application. It compares perceived emotional support, general life stress, and media affordance-based stress from two participant samples - one that reported using the Facebook desktop site most frequently to reach out for emotional support, and one that reported using the mobile application. The media affordance measure asked participants if perceiving a media affordance was more likely to increase or decrease their stress. In both samples, persistence was more likely to decrease stress, and personalization was more likely to increase stress. On the Facebook Desktop site, searchability was more likely to increase stress. On the Facebook mobile application, pervasiveness was more likely to decrease stress, and association to increase stress. When comparing affordances between samples, there were no significant differences found. When comparing samples, the Facebook mobile application users reported higher life stress, but there was no difference found in perception of emotional support. Within samples, there was no correlation between perceived stress and perceived emotional support. Finally, there was a significant correlation found between perception of emotional support on the site and frequency of reaching out for emotional support. On the Facebook desktop site, users reached out by public post and by private message significantly less frequently if they perceived a higher level of emotional support to be available on the site. On the Facebook mobile application, users reached out by public post significantly less frequently if they perceived a higher level of emotional support to be available on the application. No correlation was found for reaching out by private message on the Facebook mobile application.

Abstract (sommario):
Recruitment has changed over the years. Organisations have started searching for an easy and cost effective platform for personality mining. With the explosion of social networking sites, candidates are now able to choose where they could spend their time online. This has encouraged many recruiters to start using social networking as part of a new cost-conscious approach to personality mining. Social networking websites function like an online community of internet users. Popular online sites include LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. They are growing at an exponential rate, with most of the sites being free to join and, importantly, giving organizations an effective means of attracting today's Generation Y workforce. The purpose of this article is to contribute to emerging theory about the role of social networking sites in the process of personality mining.

The basic resource of an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy is no longer capital, nor natural resource, but is data. Environment (natural or digital), society, and governance are rapidly changing due to the exponential increase of data. With data being ubiquitous and implicitus, the capability of managing it has become a critical factor. Data is represented in a variety of ways, is interpreted according to a specific context, and is subject to strict privacy restrictions. Data protection as well as data privacy issues are of major importance regarding the top ESG challenges that industries deal with. Supporting confidentiality and privacy toward the form ESG approach remains fundamental to refining a reasonable side regarding the progressively digitalized humanity we live in. Data breaches that have seen the light of day recently, such as those on Facebook, have highlighted the urgent need for data security as determined by ESG strategies. Businesses are called upon to better align with these strategies. They are called to link privacy with environmental, social, and governance strategies, which will be an ace for their viability and competitive advantage in the global market. ESG data is speedily boosting an industry of its own. There are many data providers as well as start-ups in the area. The role of data privacy in ESG is strongly connected with environment aspects and concerns data minimization, electronic waste reduction management, energy usage decrease. Data privacy in ESG is strongly connected with society aspects connected to individual privacy respect, privacy programs establishment, as well as personal data protection. Finally, data privacy in ESG is strongly connected with governance regarding privacy framework adoption, privacy program monitor, and privacy regulations compliment. Companies ought to pay significant attention to ESG achievements due to their enormous impact on corporate sustainability as well as to individual and social impact. Abstract (sommario):
Social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter can provide another opportunity for users to remotely access library resources. The creation of a library Facebook page provides the library with the ability to promote licensed databases and the information users need to remotely accesses those resources and course or electronic reserve materials. Twitter accounts provide libraries with the opportunity to keep users informed about changes to licensed databases, in other words, anytime they add or discontinue resources or there is a problem accessing them remotely. Another option is foursquare. Foursquare allows you to find your friends and discover your city or library. Libraries can use foursquare to introduce students to it resources and services. The library could develop a contest for users to earn points and badges by discovering information about the library such as, new books, databases or services. Social networks provide libraries and users with new ways to promote and provide remote access to licensed databases.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Facebook Datacenter consists of a large number of servers that run diverse Facebook services aggregated to serve any given user request. To allow this aggregation, servers have to interact with each other via different traffic flows which are managed by networking fabric. The underlying connection powering this fabric consists of a large number of pluggable optical interconnects and On Board Optical (OBO) modules carrying production data. This connectivity at scale requires fast and reliable detection of the link failures to ensure resolution. In the first generation of the deployments, detection of the link failure was sequential and a slow process. The troubleshoot process was equally tedious as the available tools required characterizing one optical transceiver at a time. Further, the failure analysis also presented a majority of resolution with no failed optics as a root cause resulting in high No Trouble Found (NTF) rate. In this paper we introduce a novel link failure detection and resolution method that improves on the previous method across three dimensions: faster resolution, reliable troubleshooting and scalable implementation. We introduce BER Illusion Methodology (BIM) that is a highly scalable and resource efficient solution that significantly reduces the time taken to troubleshoot pluggable optical interconnects. This is also scalable to next-gen OBO modules at Facebook datacenters aiming to lower the NTF rate and optimally utilizing the available resources. BIM, which is based on Open Compute Platform (OCP) network switches, can be used to troubleshoot 128 QSFP28, 64 QSFP56 or 32 OBO modules simultaneously in under 30 minutes. The tool is easy to implement and capable of also reporting diagnostics on the transceiver such as Transmitter Power, Transmitter Bias Current, Receiver Power, Case Temperature, Bit Error Rate result per channel, Vendor information and Manufacturing part number. This additional test data report along with true failure indication helps optic suppliers gain confidence and build customer credibility. The open-source nature and the universal applicability of this tool offers possibility for other users to adopt and further customize it for their networking needs.

Abstract (sommario):
The development of multimedia tools, as well as web 2.0 technologies coming out, led an increase in the interest for integrating these in education. Initially used for socializing, social networks started to be used more frequently in academic education. Everyday use of smartphones and electronic tablets by students had drawn the attention of teachers. As a result, these devices are seen as potential resources used to improve learning and motivation for students. Using devices during class determines significant changes in the teaching-learning process which requires to reconsider their role in education. Although integrating social networks in education represents a challenge, they are neccessary in order to connect universities to the new generation of students. Even though social platforms were originally designed to connect people, today they constitute important learning resources through which students create content, work collaboratively and constantly interact in order to ease the learning process. The potential of social networks, student motivation for using such platforms for learning, creating online communities for certain didactic activities are themes the academic community is concerned with, and are also frequently approached in literature. Among social networks, Facebook is the most used one. Without having been designed specifically for learning, due to the impact it has on the youth, it can be used in the new social context as a great opportunity through which a collaborative, interactive and attractive learning environment for 21st century students can be created. The present paper aims to analyse the opinion of engineering students regarding the use of social networks in their own learning process. The purpose for which they are used is being analysed and so is their impact on learning.
