Summary An increasing number of consumers are buying organic foods, resulting in an enhancement of the value of this market, which recorded constant growth both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Concerns for health, environmental protection, animal welfare, and support for the local economy contribute to greater purchases of organic foods, whereas high prices, lack of trust in certification, scarce supply, and unavailability of organic products represent obstacles to their purchase. This paper examined the prevalence of certain types of organic food in purchasing, as well as its relatio

Access to maternal and new born health services in most poor countries has been impeded by financial barriers and there has been increased attention for the mobilization of local resources to improve access to services. This study described the establishment, management and utilization of community based maternal health fund by indigenous women’s groups in a rural area of Somali region. The community-based fund was initiated and established by the women’s group as a result of financial constraints faced by pregnant women in accessing health services in the study area. Noodles are flour-based processed products that are generally served as an alternative food to carbohydrates dense products. Nowadays, carbohydrate-based processed products, such as the production of non-wheat noodles and the substitution of non-wheat carbohydrate sources, are developed, mainly through the use of local food commodities as alternatives. The purpose of this research was to investigate the physicochemical qualities of wheat noodles substituted for local food ingredients such as sorghum flour and green beans via sticking properties, cooking quality, proximate analysis, and sensory

We have proven that the thickness of the perovskite block in the hematophanite structure can be extended to two and even three octahedral layers forming homologous series with the general formula An+1BnO3n–1Cl (where hematophanite is the n=3 member). Climate changes in the Arctic may weaken the currently tight pelagic-benthic coupling. In response to decreasing sea ice cover, arctic marine systems are expected to shift from a ‘sea-ice algae–benthos' to a ‘phytoplankton-zooplankton’ dominance. We used mollusc shells as bioarchives and fatty acid trophic markers to estimate the effects of the reduction of sea ice cover on the food exported to the seafloor. Bathyal bivalve Astarte moerchi living at 600 m depth in northern Baffin Bay reveals a clear shift in growth variations and Ba/Ca ratios since the late 1970s, which we relate to a change i

When prey become limiting, predators may travel farther to find preferred food or adjust to existing local resources. When predators are habitat limited, local resource abundance impacts foraging success. We analysed the diet of Myotis lucifugus (little brown bats) from Nova Scotia (eastern Canada) to the Northwest Territories (north-western Canada).
