Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – This paper discusses the important issues relating to the management of corporate change and includes an appropriate case study. It will benefit all business leaders, particularly those involved with the development of change strategies and the implementation of those strategies. Paul Arnold’s experience will improve their understanding of change management by providing the tools that will enable them to effectively understand and assess the progress of change initiatives in their organization. Findings – Every organization is subject to change, and virtually, everyone within the organization will be affected by change. Such is the impact of a rapidly evolving marketplace that organizational change management has become a permanent feature of the business landscape. To be effective, organizational change must be able to genuinely transform the business. Yet in the relentless search for new techniques to revolutionize the way things are done, and in the haste to manage technological discontinuities, many organizations fail to adequately develop, communicate and execute their vision for the change. Originality/value – The recently developed Change Index discussed in this paper provides a concrete and clear measurement system that enables management to effectively understand and assess progress of change initiatives in their organization. The paper benefits all business leaders, particularly those involved with the development of change strategies and the implementation of those strategies.

Abstract (sommario):
This article examines the impact of personality traits, learning styles, gender, and online course factors (course difficulty, group affiliation, provided materials, etc.) in the academic success of students taking online courses and their overall success rate through traditional classes. Students’ performance in the online learning environment is still a new perception, and a fair numbers of details are still unknown, in stark contrast to the details known in regard to traditional learning methods. Different types of learners respond differently to online and traditional courses. A case study was performed in which students were asked to attend two online courses, with different difficulty levels, during one semester. One-way analysis of variance was used to determine which factors are significant for the academic performance of students taking online courses, as well as for their overall academic success. Findings from the case study indicate that female students score slightly better, course difficulty has impact on test results, emotional students are more susceptible to online environments, and learning styles are more difficult to identify in online classes.

Abstract (sommario):
Reformation of higher education (HE) institutions is fundamental in improving and strengthening its academic institutions of HE independence. Moving on now to consider the present academic community must undergo a process of change to improve the teaching, research, management functions, and operations of the institutions, which are incremental in a sustainable manner. In essence, there are many indicators of success that have been identified in studies conducted for other industries. The major trend currently observed is the reformation of the HE institutions in major countries mimicking the for-profit industries to make them more competitive. This paper integrates and advances pertinent factors that enable an effective and successful reformation process from the Asian HE perspective by reviewing relevant reformation literature on the matter. This systematic review has developed three (3) core themes relating to the importance of leadership, policy development and governance, and autonomy, which regards higher institutional practices from within the Asian region reviewed. And to conclude, the internal factor is dominating the indicators for HE reforms success. This finding seeks to offer future research to be extended from established institutions from other developed countries as a comparison when planning and implementing change initiatives at the institutional level.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper is focused on the draft of the method for quantification of the factors, which determine the success of the SMEs in foreign markets. In the proposed method the multidimensional assessment of indicators of success of SMEs in foreign markets are used, ie. not only the proportion of sales from exports is observed, but also the profitability of international activities in an absolute and in a relative rate. Other indicators of success are the satisfaction of the company management with international activities and the success of achieving defined targets for business activities in foreign markets. Evaluation is made up of both the objective and the subjective indicators of success. Among the objective indicators of success is included the intensity of international activities of SMEs, which is detected as the sum of revenues generated from international activities in relation to total sales company, the profitability of international activities, (ie. whether the foreign activities are profitable or not), and the relative profitability of international activities, where it is ascertained whether the foreign activities generate higher profit than the activities at the domestic market. The next subjective indicator of success is the success of objectives – it was found how many objectives related to operations in foreign markets has been achieved. Another indicator is the subjective satisfaction of the company management with existing activities on foreign markets. Overall performance on foreign markets of the company is quantified using an assessment of objective and subjective indicators of success. Using the defined evaluation it will be possible to determine which of the SMEs are more and which are less successful in foreign markets. Finally, this evaluation model is used for the research aimed at identifying characteristics affecting the success of dairy SMEs in the foreign markets.

Abstract (sommario):
As part of the value-based approach to project management, a new economic metric was actually introduced - value as an indicator of the company's success. The basis of the value-based approach is the definition of indicators that reflect the growth of the company's value. Assessment of the value of projects and their expertise should be carried out in a certain sense in a uniform manner, based on common indicators. A study of the system of indicators for management and balanced assessment of the value of projects was carried out. Indicators are considered in the context of the development of existing project management systems. It is proposed to divide the existing system of indicators into three groups: methodological, methodological and operational. The hypothesis that the success of the project mission can be predicted based on the values of the indicators of a group of methodological indicators for assessing the values of the project is confirmed. Using modern mathematical methods, it is shown that in the group of methodological indicators for project evaluation, each of the indicators objectively reflects the value, and sometimes the effectiveness or success of the project, since each indicator is used as the main one for a certain type of project. The model developed by the authors can serve as a methodological basis for managing the value of projects. The proposed model makes it possible to assess the value of project activity in terms of its effectiveness based on only one, any indicator of a group of methodological indicators for assessing the value of the project. The model allows the use of value management tools at different stages of the project life cycle. In addition, the mechanisms presented in the work are universal and can be used in projects implemented using various approaches: both within the framework of classical project management and using “flexible” or hybrid methods. The article shows that the group of methodological indicators objectively reflects not only the success of the project. Considering any of the indicators, one can conclude about the effectiveness or success of the project mission or strategic goal.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the motives for mergers and acquisitions is the synergy effect, which can take several forms. This paper tries to find out whether mergers implemented at the Czech market bring positive or negative synergies. The basis of our investigation is the database of the companies that implemented a merger within 2001–2009; out of these, the companies that published their financial statements in a digitalized form were selected. We monitored the development of six indicators characterizing the economic status of a company. The values of these indicators were compared for all participating companies before the merger and for the successor company three years after the merger. The hypotheses were formulated so that they expressed an expectation of a positive synergy brought about by mergers. However, hypothesis testing has not provided a clear result. A positive effect of a merger on the key indicator of net assets, whose growth means an increase in the accounting value of the company after the merger, has been proved for small and medium-sized companies only. The effect of mergers on the increase in indicators has been confirmed for retained earnings from past years and personal costs. Further research will concentrate on the relations between the indicators with the aim to create an integral indicator for the economic success of mergers.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper reviews the concept and trend of Key Intangible Performance indicators (KIPs) for organisational success. Although KPIs are useful for tracking tangible performance drivers, KPIs cannot adequately measure intangible performance drivers. Therefore, organisations need to look for KIPs (which measure intangible drivers) in order to generate a complete picture of overall performance of organisations. Evidently, there is a significant shift of emphasis from measuring tangible to intangible performance measures in order to tap the full potential of intangible resources. It makes logical sense for organisations to unlock the intangible values for achieving and sustaining competitive advantage. In the face of globalisation, organisations need to transform themselves into highly competitive organisations to stay ahead of competition and at the forefront of their industries. The development and application of KIPs will be a strategic move to provide further insights and an impetus for continual improvement. From the literature review conducted, it is found that there are many diverse KIPs drivers which impact organisational success. And the most important drivers identified in this paper are leadership, innovation, company image and reputation, and employee satisfaction.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose New small businesses are the cornerstone of many small rural communities. They provide needed products and services, new opportunities for employment, and general vitality. The economic impact these businesses have on their town and county are important indicators of an area’s success. The purpose of this paper is to examine newly started small businesses that are within three or four years of age or less, and examine factors that may have led to their success or failure. Here, sources of advice, means of financial support, and background experience of the firm’s founder have been found to be correlated with the business success. Design/methodology/approach The analysis using Probit regression yielded four models wherein female owners, family help with a business and Hispanic ownership had significant models predicting performance all of these were negative relationships. The factors correlated with business success as proposed are presented. Of course correlation does not imply causation, which means that the authors cannot be sure that a factor that is associated with business success will lead to business success. But, this is an important first step in determining whether there are significant differences between successful and unsuccessful businesses. Findings The findings showed that experience with previous business ownership had a distinct impact and the marketing efforts were also important for profitability. The other factors were not significant. A second phase to the analysis using Probit regression yielded four models wherein female owners, family help with a business and Hispanic ownership had significant models predicting performance all of these were negative relationships. This represents the difficulties that are encountered with these groups in garnering the support and financial means they need to succeed. It was also interesting that the use of a business plan did not help the businesses succeed. Research limitations/implications Using a Probit Regression and χ2 analysis of the data is the most appropriate and accurate analysis for a date set of this type. There is much more to be accomplished with rural entrepreneurship and the use of these techniques would be appropriate for this type of data. Practical implications Business plans are important for the business founder to predict potential costs and profits. In this study however, the authors did not find that having a business plan differentiated business’s performance. If it can be replicated, it will be important to find out what is unique about rural areas that lead to this finding. If business plans do not help, then what type of preplanning will help? If this finding is correct, business development agencies may wish to cut back resources devoted to writing a business plan, and devote them to other areas. Being a member of business network group also is not associated with business success. Social implications The growth of rural entrepreneurial businesses is well documented. These businesses provide many social impacts to the local community not only by providing products or services need but also by providing employment. This research is imperative to providing the best success plan for these businesses as the proliferate. Originality/value There has been very little research on rural entrepreneurship. This study takes a unique look at a rural community and the success or failure of their businesses over a one-year period when most small businesses succeed or fail. There is much more to be done on examining the tools they need to be successful.

Abstract (sommario):
This project describes the results from a large enrollment introductory psychology course specially designed to improve performance of first-year students. The main objective of the project was to identify early indicators of student success to inform future teaching and promote classroom engagement. Variables representing academic preparation, academic self-concept (e.g., growth mind-set), and behavioral indicators of academic engagement were analyzed with respect to course performance measures, including scores on the first test, midterm grades, and final grades. Academic preparation variables, growth mind-set scores, and some classroom behavior variables correlated with performance measures. Additionally, ACT scores and behavioral indicators of academic engagement were significant predictors of final grades. Findings are discussed in terms of strategies that teachers can use to promote student success in large enrollment, lecture-based courses such as introductory psychology.

Abstract (sommario):
The article substantiates the need to study the phenomenon of appearance in the context of educational environment. The author emphasizes the special importance of self-realization and communication in the field of education for a modern person who exists in an ever-changing world, imposing new requirements on him or her. In the article the appearance of a person is considered from the point of view of a socio-psychological approach, as a form of objectification of the inner self in the communication process. Assessment and self-assessment of the external appearance of university students are correlated with their academic success. Academic success is understood by the author as an integrative indicator, made up of the performance evaluation, assessment of the educational activity, assessment of the degree of satisfaction with the training and learning outcomes. The article considers objective and subjective indicators of academic success. The study confirms the hypothesis about the relationship between the indicators of academic success and indicators of assessing the appearance of a university student.

Abstract (sommario):
Success in project management, and particularly in large, high-technology/IT projects, is not easily achieved. This paper draws together a significant number of case studies and research efforts relating to the success and failure of projects from the last four decades, in what is believed to be the only modern meta-study of its type. The author posits that there is a body of knowledge within the literature from which a number of key indicators or focus areas can be derived for practical application especially in the early stages of projects. Studies encompassing more than 2,800 projects are examined, and the success factors for general, and high-technology, projects are newly grouped and ranked as strategic success drivers for use prescriptively by project practitioners and approvers. New correlations between success indicators are presented and the principal drivers examined in further detail to reveal sometimes less obvious characteristics influencing project success. In a series of fieldwork interviews with key staff in high-technology projects, these drivers also emerge consistently as important factors in project success.

Abstract (sommario):
At the time of increasing globalization and homogenization of the global markets, the development of information infrastructure technology and world market becomes accessible not only to large multinational companies but also for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This has resulted in increasing competition in the domestic market which domestic firms have to face. Therefore the process of internationalization of business is a step that allows businesses performing their activities in the domestic market to enter foreign markets and to exploit the opportunities and potential which these markets offer. The next subjective indicator of success is the success of objectives - it was found how many objectives related to operations in foreign markets has been achieved. Finally, this evaluation will be used for future research aimed at identifying characteristics affecting the success of SMEs in the foreign markets.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the insights of founding entrepreneurs to understand what they consider as indicators for achieving entrepreneurial success. Using this information, the construct entrepreneurial success was conceptualized and a scale developed for use in subsequent testable models. Design/methodology/approach – Through qualitative research, the concept of entrepreneurial success was explored with ten founding entrepreneurs. Themes emerged from this enquiry process which informed the development of nine indicators. The indicators were subjected to exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis in a subsequent study, comprising 213 founding entrepreneurs. The result is an early attempt to produce a measurement scale for entrepreneurial success, as perceived by the entrepreneur. Findings – Entrepreneurs perceive entrepreneurial success as the presence of both personal and macro level variables. This research supports theorizing that suggests entrepreneurial success is a multidimensional construct best captured by more than financial and economic indicators. Research limitations/implications – This research is limited by the size of the sample, the qualitative context of the research that conceptualized the construct, and the self-report nature of the quantitative study that was used to develop the measurement scale. Practical implications – The development of a scale provides researchers with the opportunity to include entrepreneurial success, as perceived by entrepreneurs, in future testable models. Originality/value – This research responds to a call for investigation into entrepreneurial success. It is an early attempt to conceptualize a relevant construct and to develop a scale for use in empirical testing. It is distinguished by using the perceptions of successful entrepreneurs to develop the construct and to validate it.

Abstract (sommario):
A four-story building collapse in east Delhi, India in November 2010 claimed 66 lives and left 130 injured. It is considered one of the worst such disasters in Delhi. This disaster included massive rescue operations to pull out those trapped under the debris. The nodal hospital, which did not have a well-defined hospital disaster management plan, managed the disaster extremely well. The success indicators included a SMART triage, autopsy and tagging/labeling dead bodies, public notification system, effective hospital networking for patient transfer and getting injured family members together, excellent media management, important dignitaries' management, important decision-making processes, and commendable teamwork. The critical aspects of management proved as a key indicator for the successful management. The paper discusses the details of the case study and analyzes each indicator in greater focus. The lessons learned are critically evaluated.

Abstract (sommario):
The Human Development Index (HDI) is a measure used to measure the success of human development in an area. There are several indicators used to compile the HDI value. Previously, regencies/cities were grouped based on the HDI indicator. The grouping is done using K-means cluster analysis with 4 categories, namely regencies/cities that have low, medium, high, and very high HDI indicator values. From the results of determining the category of the HDI indicator in an area, we need a function that can be used to classify an object into one of the HDI indicator value categories. The compilation of the classification function is carried out using discriminant analysis. The results obtained from the discriminant analysis are that there are 10 variables or indicators that fall into the discriminant function. The resulting discriminant function is quite good in classifying each group with a success rate of more than 85% and the discriminant function is supported by a fairly good validation success rate, namely with a classification accuracy of 93.20%.

Abstract (sommario):
There have been divergent opinions as to the suitability of the various indicators of locus of control in business management research. This study examines how the indicators of internal locus and strategic locus of control function in the small business context. The study examines first the interrelations between these indicators and then relation between each of the indicators and the firm's strategic factors. The indicators of locus of control differed from each other in their relation to external control. The indicator of strategic locus of control correlated with the firm's targets, strategic decision-making and success. On the other hand the indicator of internal locus of control is useful in research on entrepreneurship and the birth of new firms.

Abstract (sommario):
Because a consensus has yet to be reached on how to assess the success of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project, it is meaningful to study the multidimensional indicators to assess PPP project success. It merits attention that PPP project success indicators are totally different from PPP critical success factors (CSFs), which have attracted a lot of attention from scholars. This study conducts a questionnaire survey to identify the crucial considerations of project success from the perspectives of different PPP stakeholders. In line with previous studies, five dimensions of PPP project success that were developed from different stakeholder viewpoints and time frameworks were tested based on the empirical data. The dimensions mapped in the study not only provide a benchmark for practitioners to diagnose the extent of PPP project success but also provide a solid foundation for scholars to conduct further studies regarding PPP project success.

Abstract (sommario):
Aim. This research aims to theoretically characterize and empirically research the indicators of barriers and resources for journalists’ success in life through the prism of their professional scripts. The focus is on the axiological component of the professional script of media professionals. Methods. We used theoretical analysis of the psychological works aiming at studying journalists’ success in life, and such methodological instruments as the Lifetime Orienteering Test (Leontiev, 2000); an adapted version of James Crambo’s Purpose-in-Life Test (PIL); Leonard Maholiсk’s Personal Readiness for Change Questionnaire (1993), and Methodology Completeness of Life. Statistical correlation was analyzed with the use of Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Results. The theoretical analysis and empirical data revealed the correlation between the indicators of sense-of-life orientations and the indicators of personal readiness for change, script settings, perceptions of self, others and life. The results identify psychological barriers, and allocate directions of development of the technologies for optimization of journalists’ success in life. Conclusions. The results of the study made it possible to distinguish priority values-goals and values-instruments, important in the construction of the architectonics of the axiological component of the journalists’ professional script. The correlation between indicators of journalists’ middle level life-sense orientations and indicators of personal change readiness empirically confirmed a claim that innovative readiness of journalists intensified the process of reaching success in life. Psychological barriers of the cognitive process were stated as script attitudes. The development of technologies for the psychological support of journalists was considered as a prospect for our future studies.
