Abstract (sommario):
This paper empirically examined the validity of Hecksher-Ohlin theorem in the context of the Philippine-Japan inter-industry trade. Specifically, this study tried to validate whether Japan and the Philippines are primarily exporting their relatively abundant factor and importing their scarce inputs as predicted by the H-O theorem. The question of whether factor abundance affects specialization of export trade was also addressed in this study. This study employed the Leontief’s test for H-O theorem with the addition of multiple regression time-series analysis for further validation of the test.

Abstract Using data from the Japanese Panel Survey of Consumers (JPSC) for the period 1994–2007, I examine the effect of childbirth on fathers’ wage rates and labor supply in Japan. I also compare the effects of fatherhood between different cohorts by dividing the JPSC sample into two birth-year cohorts (those born in or before 1960 and those born after 1960). The results show that the birth of children significantly increases hourly wage rates by 2.3% and annual work by 69 hours. Comparing these results to those of studies based in the United States and Germany shows that while the effect of

For many decades, Japan was the only advanced industrial country in the world that did not rely on unskilled foreign labor. For many observers, the Japanese case demonstrated that a country could fully industrialize and sustain high levels of economic growth without becoming dependent on large populations of immigrant workers. Instead of importing immigrants, Japan was able to meet its increasing demand for unskilled labor power by effectively mechanizing and rationalizing production and further utilizing untapped sources of labor (female and elderly workers). By analyzing the Japanese government's fiscal and monetary policies, the study reveals how these policies respond to aging by affecting employment rates and social security spending. Abstract (sommario):
As the core region of global steel production and consumption, the zero-carbon transition of China, Japan, and South Korea is crucial for global climate goals and industrial chain sustainability. Hydrogen-based direct reduction iron (H-DRI) production, powered by renewable energy, is a promising pathway for reducing carbon emissions. This study compares the competitive dynamics of hydrogen-based steel production in China, Japan, and South Korea, with a particular focus on the levelized cost of energy (LCOE), levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH), and levelized cost of steel (LCOS) as key metrics f
