Abstract (sommario):
Lasiodiplodan is a β-glucan polymer with different interesting characteristics, including therapeutic properties. It is an extracellular product, which is produced by the filamentous fungus Lasiodiplodia theobromae, using glucose as a substrate. In the present work, the production of lasiodiplodan was studied by the utilization of sugarcane straw as a low-cost carbon source. Glucose-rich sugarcane straw hydrolysate was obtained by a sequential pretreatment with dilute nitric acid (1% v/v) and sodium hydroxide (1% w/v), followed by enzymatic hydrolysis. The fermentation process was conducted by

Abstract (sommario):
The Botryosphaeriales order is best known for the diseases they cause in woody plants, as primary pathogens or latent pathogens residing in the woody tissue of asymptomatic hosts. In the first instance, Botryosphaeriales species have been identified in Venezuela using morphological descriptions in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and later, the mid-2000s using molecular techniques. The morphological descriptions of the asexual morphs were initially used for the identification of Botryosphaeriales genera and species. Lasiodiplodia spp. (as L. theobromae) was the most isolated fungus in Venezuela within the B

The rubber tree is an important economic tree in Thailand. Recently, the cultivation of rubber trees in Thailand has suffered from a novel leaf fall disease with diverse symptoms, including leaf spot and leaf blight, resulting in severe leaf defoliation. Fungi from the Lasiodiplodia genus, which causes leaf disease in rubber trees, have not been reported in Thailand. Our research aimed to identify Lasiodiplodia associated with leaf blight disease in Thailand by examining morphological characteristics and completing a multi-gene sequence analysis and pathogenicity test to fulfill Koch’s postula

Abstract Two novel resorcinol derivatives were isolated from the mycelium of Lasiodiplodia theobromae IFO 31059 as potato micro-tuber inducing compounds. Their structures were established by spectroscopic methods as ethyl (6′R)-2,4-dihydroxy-6-(6′-hydroxyheptyl)benzoate (8) and isobutyl (6′R)-2.4-dihydroxy-6-(6′-hydroxyheptyl)benzoate (9). The absolute stereochemistry of the asymmetric center of (8) was determined by an advanced Mosher method.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of quiescent fungi and the effect of phosphites under modified atmosphere on Lasiodiplodia theobromae in papaya. The fruits were treated with a range of doses of phosphites and their actions evaluated under conditions of ambient and modified atmosphere. Of the eight fungal genera found, Lasiodiplodia was the most common. No interaction was observed between the evaluated factors and only atmosphere and dose were independently significant. The usage of phosphites and modified atmosphere reduced the severity of the disease, and did not

Coconut palm (Cocos nucifera L.) is one of the most important perennial tropical crops. Stem-end rot is the major postharvest disease of coconut in Brazil. The fungus Lasiodiplodia theobromae is the only species that has been reported to be associated with this disease. However, a comprehensive study elucidating the true identity of this pathogen with molecular tools has never been conducted. In recent years, new species of Lasiodiplodia have been proposed after molecular studies were performed, indicating the existence of a species complex. The aims of this research were to study the etiology

The results showed that the L. iranensis DWH-2 genome was 43.01 Mb in size with a GC content of 54.82%. A total of 11,224 coding genes were predicted, among which 4776 genes were annotated based on Gene Ontology. Furthermore, the core genes involved in the pathogenicity of the genus Lasiodiplodia were determined for the first time bas
