Testo completoDigital platforms are transforming many areas of everyday life, redefining the way we consume, work, trade and travel. Short-term rentals are one of these activities, which have grown rapidly since the late 2000s due to digital sharing platforms facilitating contact between renters and owners. However, these rentals are the subject of much criticism from public decision-makers and residents of the cities most affected by their development. Indeed, the development of short-term rentals can be accused of increasing housing prices, denaturing the typical districts atmosphere and maybeeven increasing urban inequalities. The aim of this thesis is to study spatial inequalities and the reinforcement of city policies through the development of short-term rentals. The first chapter looks at inequalities from the point of view of the distribution of income generated by short-term rentals and the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on this distribution according to different types of amenity. We show that after the June 2020 unlockdownn in France, short-term rentals close to natural areas have seen their revenues increase compared to before the epidemic. In a secondchapter, we study the impact of the development of short-term rentals on the displacement of residents in the neighborhoods most affected by the phenomenon. We find that the greater the number of short-term rentals in a neighborhood, the greater the likelihood of moving to a poorer neighborhood. Moreover, after the arrival of short-term rentals in a neighborhood, this probability of moving increases. Finally, the third chapter, take a step aside by analyzing how different urban policies in Paris that aim to preserve the supply of private and social housing have been effective in the Airbnb era of exponential growth between 2006 and 2019. This study focuses on the impact of these rules on the development of social housing and the reductionof inequalities in central Paris. We find that these rules promote the development of social housing in districts with the highest housing supply. However, these rules seem to be effective only when they are the most restrictive. In a less restrictive context, social housing is created in the least central neighborhoods. In addition to these analyses, we find that these different regulations do not succeed to foster more socio-economical diversity
Meugnot, Aurore. "Immobilisation de courte durée d'un membre et Imagerie motrice". Thesis, Poitiers, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014POIT5010/document.
Testo completoThe present thesis focused on the effects of short-term limb immobilization on the cognitive level of action control. Especially, we examined the influence of short-term upper-limb immobilization (right or left-hand) on the mental representation of action. To this aim, an implicit motor imagery task (mental rotation of body-stimuli) was used, assuming similar processes between motor simulation and motor execution. Results showed that physical inactivity affects the cognitive processing of action. Short-term upper-limb immobilization impaired the ability to mentally represent action. The immobilization-induced effects (switch from a motor to a visual imagery strategy, inte-limb transfer…) may vary from one individual to another, and may depend on the constraints of the implicit imagery task or with the period of immobilization (24h vs. 48h). A second aim of this thesis was to examine the potential of explicit motor imagery to reactivate the sensorimotor system after the period of sensorimotor restriction. We showed that kinesthetic imagery practice during the period of immobilization can counteract the functional impairment induced by sensorimotor restriction

Testo completoThe Arctic is increasingly open to human activity due to rapid warming, associated with decreased sea ice extent. This warming is due, in part, to the effect of short-lived atmospheric pollutants (aerosols, ozone). As a result, Arctic pollutant emissions should increase in the future, and their impacts might become significant compared to the now predominant source due to pollution transport from the mid-latitudes. In this thesis, regional simulations of the Arctic troposphere are performed with the WRF-Chem model, combined with new emission estimates for oil and gas extraction and shipping in the Arctic. The model is used to analyze two case studies from recent airborne measurement datasets: POLARCAT-France in 2008, ACCESS in 2012. First, I investigate an aerosol transport event from Europe to the Arctic in spring 2008, in order to improve our understanding of this major source of Arctic pollution. Second, I determine the air quality and radiative impacts of shipping emissions in Northern Norway in summer 2012, where most current Arctic shipping occurs. I use these results to validate modeled pollution, and to improve WRF-Chem for Arctic studies. The updated model is used to investigate the current (2012) and future (2050) impacts of Arctic shipping and Arctic gas flaring in terms of air quality and radiative effects. Results show that Arctic flaring emissions are and should remain a strong source of local black carbon aerosols, causing warming, and that Arctic shipping is already a strong source of aerosols and ozone during summer. In 2050, diversion shipping through the Arctic Ocean could become a major source of local surface aerosol and ozone pollution

Testo completoIn 2024, the Paris metropolitan area finds itself at a turning point in its development, marked not only by the Olympic and Paralympic Games but also by the gradual introduction of new transport infrastructures and ongoing debates concerning its governance. This dissertation explores the interaction between these metropolitan dynamics, urban tourism, and tourist accommodations. It is based on the hypothesis that tourism practices have evolved, increasingly blurring the boundaries between tourists and residents, and that tourist accommodation venues can significantly influence neighborhood life and metropolitan development. Short-term rental platforms like Airbnb have played a central role in transforming tourism practices. These rentals are often concentrated in already tourist-heavy neighborhoods, exacerbating issues of segregation and gentrification. Significant disparities thus exist across different areas of the Paris metropolitan region: some of them, already heavily impacted by tourism, require stricter protective measures to prevent excessive pressure on housing, while more peripheral areas present potential for tourism development. Drawing on interviews with actors from local authorities, on quantitative data, and on strategic documents, the study shows that spatial regulation of tourist accommodations emerges as a useful tool for local authorities. By dispersing tourist flows towards peripheral areas, the implementation of such regulation could mitigate the negative effects of “overtourism” and promote a more balanced distribution of activities within Greater Paris. However, the implementation of such regulations faces negative perceptions and institutional challenges, particularly due to the complexity of public action across various scales. These challenges could be alleviated by: - Moving beyond a binary perspective of support or opposition to short-term rentals, - Considering the function of “dwelling” within urban tourism, - And adopting an approach that integrates temporary residents within a holistic framework, which could notably help diversify territories. Such an approach could enable tourism, through accommodation, to become a true component of territorial strategies in a metropolitan context. This would entail the use of various urban planning and regulatory tools, some of which already exist, but would need to be applied in a territorially nuanced manner to better address the issue of competition between tourist accommodations and permanent housing while also capitalizing on the opportunities offered by tourist accommodations

From the test results a corrective factor is proposed. This factor allows to take into account the effect of temporary mechanical overloads in the aim of improving the application of a conception rule. The comparison of numerical and experimental results contributes to the validation if the models materials behaviour. In addition, interesting conclusions are given bout the performances of simplified methods of the progressive deformation expectation

Firstly, the development of the reaction conditions have been studied for the transfer of a methyl group by the Stille coupling reaction, via the synthesis of the corresponding monoorganotin. The reaction time was optimized onto model compounds for carbon-12 as well as for carbon-11 chemistry. Secondly, this reaction was applied to the synthesis of NK3 receptors radioligands, in carbon-12 and carbon-11 chemistry. Testo completoThe aim of the present work was to study, using an integrative approach, the effects of intrinsic and extrinsic factors that influence the mechanical and neuromuscular performances during sprint exercises on a cycle ergometer. The first study examined the effect of exercise and gender on the reliability of the mechanical measurements from the force-velocity tests. The results showed that the reliability of the force-velocity test was higher in men and lower limbs compared to women and upper limbs, respectively. The second study investigated the effect of two loads (8.7 and 11% of body mass, BM) on the reproducibility of mechanical power indices during a Wingate test. The results showed comparable reliability between the two loads. However, power output was significantly higher at 11% BM. The third study compared power indices computed from the force-velocity and Wingate tests among two groups of male subjects with different physical fitness. The results showed that the Wingate tests performed against non-optimal loads (8.7% BM) underestimated maximal power especially in powerful subjects. The fourth study investigated the effect of the emotional context on neuromuscular performance during repeated cycling sprints. The results revealed a positive effect of pleasant context on neuromuscular performance compared to the unpleasant context. These results suggest that extrinsic motivation affects via the emotional valence (pleasant-unpleasant) the performance during all-out exercises

Testo completoMuscular power display a significant diurnal increase in a neutral environment only and a 60-minute moderately warm exposure increases muscular power in the morning only when body temperatures are their lowest (Sudy 1). The fact that the passive warm-up effect body temperature can not be combined may be explained by their similar action on muscular contractile properties (study 2). These results point to the existence of a "ceiling" above which an increase in body temperature fails to improve muscular performance. Indeed, our results show that an extremely hot exposure fails to modify short term performance in a moderately warm and humid environment (study 3). Similary to tropical climate,a 30-minute leg immersion in a hot bath in neutral environment may blunt the diurnal variation in muscular power (study 4),whereas active warm-up increases muscular power both in the morning and in the evening(sTUDY 5)

Testo completoSolar thermal systems combined with a backup system such as a boiler, a heat pump or incorporating an absorption chiller, can play an important role in reducing buildings energy consumption for heating, cooling and hot water production needs. In this sense, characterizing the energy performance of thermal systems is crucial.Currently available methods of system characterization are either based on several separate physical tests of system components to be evaluated, which do not take into account the real interactions between them, or on physical models that can be complex and difficult to identify especially because systems nowadays are compact and prefabricated in the factory. Due to the lack of a reliable method to estimate the performance of solar thermal systems before their integration into buildings, their market faces a lot of impediment to be developed. In this context, it becomes essential to develop a generic methodology that can be applied to different types of systems which overcomes the difficulties encountered by the current ones. The proposed evaluation approach in this manuscript is composed of four main steps: determining a test sequence, testing the system in a semi-virtual test bench according to predetermined sequence, data acquisition and identifying an artificial neural network (ANN) of the system and finally the model simulation in order to estimate the system consumption in the desired boundary condition. Using a completely "black box" model of the whole system using the ANN makes the methodology totally "non-intrusive". No prior knowledge about the systems internal parameters (yields, thermal conductivities, regulation etc.) is necessary to apply the proposed approach. The methodology validation was performed through several numerical experiments for seven systems coming from three different typologies. During the validation process, ANN estimates were compared with calculations of physical models in several different conditions (quality of building, climate and collector area). The developed approach was applied to five real systems as well. The application results allowed the confirmation of the methodology relevance

Testo completoModal analysis aims at identifying the vibrational modes of a structure. Estimating these structural modes often requires specific identification tests on the system operating in normal conditions. For some industrial applications, such tests can imply an important time and financial cost. As a consequence, the concerned industrial companies try to get as good result as possible while they also try to reduce as much as possible the duration of a test campaign. This PhD thesis aims at providing linear time invariant system identification methods able to give accurate modal parameter estimations from short duration tests performed in operational conditions.First, an iterative approach based on the identification of matrix fraction descriptions in the frequency domain is studied. This study leads to the formulation of an algorithm combining the use of an iterative instrumental variable method and the use of the Gauss-Newton method. This algorithm is based on a new parametrization of matrix fraction descriptions and takes into account the initial and final state of the system. Second, a subspace-based algorithm is proposed. This one includes frequency weighting matrices which are calculated by considering a frequency band selection and also the initial and final state of the system. Both developed algorithms are finally applied to a simulation case representative of flight flutter-tests conditions of a civil aircraft and to the real data of a flutter test performed on a military aircraft

Testo completoSenegalese waters presented high fish productivity and stocks are exploited since more than about fifty year. Exploitation intensely increased over the last three decades, inducing ecological changes in the composition of marine populations. Some demersal stocks collapsed to the advantage of other species, characterized by shorter life, such as the octopus and shrimps. Today, these stocks are becoming major stakes of fishing. But short-lived species exhibit rapid and unstable dynamics, and their potential for production varies widely from year-to-year. So, their sustainable exploitation implies an adapted fisheries management, taking into account these specific dynamics. The main objective of the present PhD thesis was to understand the octopus and shrimps stocks’ dynamics, in order to improve the scientific bases of fisheries management plans

Testo completoThe purpose of this dissertation is to characterize hemostasis-related complications in patients supported by peripheral VA-ECMO to improve their prevention and to optimize the antithrombotic therapeutic approaches in use. In a first study, we qualitatively and quantitatively described the composition of thrombi collected from the VA-ECMO circuits. We observed that these thrombi are mainly made of VWF, fibrin and in a lesser proportion of platelets and RBCs. Our quantitative approach also allowed us to demonstrate the presence of NETs while there was no active septic, confirming the possibility of aseptic NETosis under VA-ECMO. By hierarchical cluster analysis, we identified 2 types of thrombi, each of which may be related to a different mechanism of formation. In this study, the location of thrombi on the VA-ECMO circuit did not impact their compositions, highlighting the heterogeneity of thrombi formed within VA-ECMO and the multifactorial mechanisms that support thrombosis in this setting. In a second study, we compared the performance of surface coatings on VA-ECMO circuits to reduce thrombinoformation and its clinical consequences. Two of the most used coatings in daily practice were compared: the phosphorylcholin-based coating and the polysaccharide-albumin-based coating. We observed a higher rate of thrombotic complications in the phosphorylcholin group without any excess bleeding events or mortality in either group. In addition, compared with thrombi from phosphorylcholin-coated circuit junctions, those from polysaccharide-albumin-coated circuits were poorer in VWF. Our work suggests that the level of anticoagulation should be modulated according to the type of coating of the ECMO circuit. The aim of our third study was to identify the most relevant bleeding events that may guide clinical decision-making for more aggressive clinical management and a greater investment in research. To this end, we compared the association between 3 bleeding classifications with 28-day mortality. The ELSO definition already in use and the BARC classification classes ≥ type 2 were associated with 28-day mortality and thus retained as definitions of major bleeding. Laboratory parameters that are predictors major bleeding according to the ELSO definition were decreased fibrinogen, platelet count, and hemoglobin at cannulations. Body mass index and postcardiotomy etiology were also predictive of ELSO major bleeding. In an additional work related to the topic of the thesis, we studied two of the most used laboratory tests for the monitoring of systemic heparin during VA-ECMO, the APTT and the Anti-Xa activity, to identify the most relevant. First, we studied the relationship between these two tests and then analyzed in a second objective the impact of biological influencing factors on this relationship. Next, we determined their associations with thrombotic and hemorrhagic complications. Although linearly associated, the rate of discordance between their measurements was 39 % for an Anti-Xa reference range of 0.3 - 0.7 IU/mL. Neither APTT nor Anti-Xa was associated with thrombotic or bleeding complications. Taken together, our results highlight the heterogeneity of thrombi from peripheral VA-ECMO, the involvement of numerous causal factors that underline thrombotic and hemorrhagic complications, both not predictable by routine tests. Finally, our work underscored the need for new approaches in thrombotic or hemorrhagic complications management with targets set at an individual level considering both patient and ECMO circuit characteristics

Testo completoWorking rhythms deserve a special attention because of their consequences on the worker himself but also on the quality and the safety of his work. Some work schedules are particularly concerned like for example shift work and more precisely night work. One solution to solve the worker's sleepiness problem would be to increase his rest possibilities by authorizing him, under strict control, to take a nap during his night shift. This method had been tested in lab studies and applied in a real working place. For this PhD dissertation, two field studies were conducted in the Tricastin power plant, in order to study advantages and disadvantages of napping during the night shift. Globally results of these two studies are positive because this new night shift organization was accepted and carried out by most of the workers who had accepted it. It has benefited their night work. There was no long term negative effect on the worker's rest/activity rhythm, except a small decrease in length of the following daytime sleep. The feasibility and the efficiency of napping in real working conditions have been demonstrated in these two field studies. They have also showed some important factors neglected in lab studies and which are essential in order to introduce this new work organization in the working world

Testo completoMolecular dynamics simulations are used to investigate the role on the slowing down of the dynamics in certain colloidal dispersions of some characteristics of the short-range interaction potentials between the solutes. The variation with the physical parameters of the diffusion coefficient used as an indicator of the slowing down of the dynamics is compared with that of the bond lifetime of particle pairs in order to test the usual interpretation of gelation by par the formation of long-lived bonds between the colloidal particles. Two simple models were first considered: a standard potential with a repulsive part and a short-range attraction, and a model with a repulsive barrier after the well. For standard models, without barrier, a universal behaviour of the dynamics, governed by the second virial coefficient has been shown. This has been observed both for the diffusivity and the bond lifetime of particle pairs, provided that a common definition of the bonding length is used when comparing different potentials. In the presence of barriers, the diffusivity depends also on other characteristics of the interaction, such as the ratio of the well and barrier amplitudes. The effect of the barrier reinforces both the bonding in the well and the steric effect at a separation larger than the core diameter. Doubling its height increases the lifetime almost by an order of magnitude. In all cases the bond lifetime depends weakly on density in contrast with the diffusion coefficient. This different behaviours of diffusivity and bond lifetime shows the limits of a literal interpretation of the slowing down of the dynamics by the formation of long-lived bonds between particle pairs. The predictions relative to these generic potentials were next tested on the effective potentials computed from the integral equations for asymmetric binary mixtures. The complexity of the dynamics arising from the oscillatory nature of the potential is then illustrated by the behaviour of the number of pairs, depending on the bonding range being considered. The influence on the dynamics of residual interactions was next investigated from the attractive Yukawa potential, often used to model an attractive interaction arising from the overlap of the surface layers of the solutes potential and the repulsive Yukawa one, possibly modelling Coulomb interactions with very short screening length. We so showed the importance of such residual interactions on the non-ergodicity transition lines. The analysis of the situations in which the slowing down of the dynamics involves both components of the mixture, with the required methodological developments, is finally pointed out as a possible continuation of this work

Testo completoEvolution of performances and fatigue processes during intermittent cycling sprints (6-8 s)is analyzed through effects of time of day, gender, and recovery period repartition. Fatigue and recovery processes of anaerobic maximal power output are poorly dependant on biologic rhythms and gender. However, women exhibit greater fatigability than men within the same srpint (P<0,005). The repartition of recovery periods (same total duration : constant, increasing, or decreasing duration)modifies the time of fatigue development (P<0. 05), but do not affect overall performance during series. Owing to neuromuscular activity and inter-muscle coordiantion, the decline in performances during sprints is attributable to fatigue that is peripheral and central in origin

Testo completoSupply of fresh drinking water, healthy food, bio-active substances and power may be accomplished by ecofriendly electrodialysis (ED) technology. Nowadays, two main barriers such as membrane fouling and concentration polarization (CP) phenomena stand in the way of ED processes. Recent works demonstrated that application of pulsed electric field (PEF) during ED might completely eliminate protein fouling and drastically decrease fouling by minerals (scaling). Moreover, the current pulsations prevent widening of concentration polarization layer. In spite of the promising results of PEF application, the optimal duration of pulse/pause lapses and influence of PEF on membrane fouling and CP in the solutions containing fouling agents are still opened and disputable questions. The thesis results demonstrate that PEF with short pulse/pause durations can be applied to electromembrane processes in order to avoid completely the scaling on anion-exchange membrane and to control the scaling on cation-exchange membrane. Moreover, “overlimiting” currents inducing the formation of electroconvective vortices are advantageous from the point of scaling decrease and improvement of process performance. The possible application of PEF to ED systems with bipolar membrane(s) was demonstrated for the first time. Furthermore, effective electromembrane treatments of solutions containing proteins could be performed with pretreatment by ultrafiltration membrane, which avoids the clogging of ED stack.

Testo completoThe complexity level of challenges that face contemporary societies requires the development of solutions based on combinations of skills from multiple actors. This collective intelligence emerges from the capacity of actors to carry out projects in which their actions are highly interdependent. The traditional pedagogical system faces structural limitations in training students in this interdependent practice that we characterize as collaborative design. Despite the fact that studio-based learning model is mostly used in an individual authoring approach, this singular system which typify the architecture studies for the last 300 years, reveal a highly collective learning process. In this thesis, we argue that the Design Charrette is an evolution of this model which, by reconfiguring some of its parameters, has become a proper approach for collaborative design. Through a historical and theoretical anchor of the Design Charrette, a typology of its contemporary practices, and through action research conducted within 3 specific cases, this research identifies the potential strengths and limitations of the Design Charrette as a model for training students in collaborative design. Among the findings, this work highlights some key actors roles and governance configurations proper to mediate the collaborative process. It draws attention that appropriability, exoticism and collective interaction of the system structures, are key factors to catalyse collaborative design process. Finally, this work point to the fact that, despite the widespread practice of the Design Charrette, its specifics settings need to be better known to support effectively collaborative design process

Testo completoThe last decade has seen a lot of progress in attosecond science or in strong field physics. Generating energetic, few-cycle laser pulses with stabilized Carrier-Envelope Phase at high repetition rate constitutes the first step to access the ultra-fast dynamics underlying the interaction of matter with intense, ultrashort coherent light source. The work of this thesis consists in globally improving the performances of a high repetition rate Ti:Sa laser system optimized for attosecond science. We present an original 10 kHz Ti:Sa CPA laser based on an newlydesigneddouble-crystal cavity for thermal lensing management. The amplifier delivers up to 5 W in narrow band mode (35 fs pulses), or 2.7 W in broad band mode, supporting 17 fs pulses after temporal compression. We demonstrate shot-to-shot CEP stabilization with a remaining noise of 210 mrad over three hours at the front-end output. In parallel to the short pulse duration operation mode, it is possible to use the front end in a wavelength tunability mode within a 80 nm range around 800 nm, with a resolution of 1 nm and 30 to 40 nm of bandwidth. We designed and demonstrated a complete water-cooled lens-less multipass amplifier using thermal lensing for modeadaptation boosting the pulse energy up to 10mJ at 1 kHz repetition rate (up to 10 W). The saturation regime of the amplifier ensures negligible variation (±3% peak to peak) of the output power for significant variation of the input power (±25% peak to peak) over the tunability range. The energy scalability of the front-end is demonstrated by coupling its output to cryogenically cooled amplifier, delivering 1 kHz, TW-class pulses at 17.5 fs and CEP stabilized with a residual noise of 350 mrad. A study of CEP noise sources in high dispersive module is also addressed, proposing a numerical approach based on a commercial ray-tracing software (Zemax) for predicting CEP fluctuation in grating based modules

Testo completoIn the last two decades, attosecond physics, based on the high harmonic generation (HHG) phenomenon, has allowed a better understanding of ultrafast dynamics in the microcosm. High-energy few-cycles carrier-envelope phase (CEP) stabilized sources are the main enabling tools for this physics. Recently, temporally compressed Ytterbium-doped fiber amplifiers have been successfully used as high XUV photon flux HHG drivers. CEP stabilization of these sources would ensure their full compatibility with attoscience. The thesis is devoted to the CEP stabilization of a high repetition rate Yb-doped fiber femtosecond source, for high XUV photon flux beamline applications. In the first part, we present the architecture of such a source at 100 kHz repetition rate delivering 30 microjoules 96 fs CEP-stable pulses. It constitutes a test bench for future energy-scaled few-cycle sources. The CEP stabilization is ensured in a hybrid architecture including a passively stabilized frontend followed by an actively stabilized power amplifier. A residual CEP noise <400 mrad is measured using various setups, including a shot-to-shot measurement over 1 s and a long-term stability over 1 h. In the second part, we discuss the design of a high flux HHG beamline optimized for a future generation of fiber-based driver at 13 nm for applications to coherent diffraction imaging

Testo completoIntroduction : Research results demonstrate a decrease in cigarette smoking when preventive professional interventions are routinely carried out. The Quebec recent literature reports that, nurses from different working areas assess their patient smoking habits 62 % of the time and recommend cessation in only 38 % of the situations. When this assessment is realized by hospital nurses, this percentage drops around 30 %. Knowing that nursing staff is present at the bedside 24 hours a day, a non-negligible influence of tobacco counselling by nurses is of potential interest for hospitalized patients. The objective of the present study is to compare, on medical and surgical units, the effectiveness of three strategies (interactive educational session, recall, and both together) to a control group, on the number of nursing interventions pertaining to cessation of cigarette smoking. Choice of those three strategies is based on reported effectiveness and transferability potential. Research design is experimental with group randomisation. Factorial model opens possibility to assess impact of each of the three strategies versus the control group. Pre and post strategy multi-measurements (at 1 and 3 months) are sought from nursing staff, patients, patient charts, management, nurses in charge of the centers for tobacco cessation. Results : Nursing staff completed questionnaires at time 1 (N = 156), at time 2 (N= 78), and at time 3 (N=69). Similarly, 156 patients were interviewed at time 1, 89 at time 2, and 98 at time 3. Results show that nursing staff assesses cigarette smoking habits for only 35,7 % of the patients, and their intent to stop smoking only 17,6 % of the time. Very few tobacco counselling interventions are carried out on medical and surgical units by nursing staff. Some barriers are identified, and nursing staff perceives a non-self-efficacy with regard to those interventions. Results do not allow confirmation of hypotheses. However, complementary statistical analyses show that the educational strategy increases the number of nursing interventions during a short period, and decreases perception of barriers to tobacco counselling. Impact of recall could not be assessed as it was not introduced as planned. Conclusion : Considering modest results from the strategies, the interactive educational sessions shows a short term effect on the nursing staff’s interventions,. The difficulties encountered during implementation of the strategies have been explained, which will be useful when planning future research in tobacco cessation.
