Abstract (sommario):
By changing the end constraints, the behaviour of mild steel and aluminium alloy tubes of relatively low D/ t ratio, subjected to an axial crushing load, is studied. Many combinations of end constraints were produced by radially constraining one or both ends of the loaded tube outwards, inwards or in both directions. Partially constrained mild steel and aluminium tubes are found to collapse into either a pure concertina mode or a pure diamond mode, depending on the ratio D/ t and the material characteristics. Mixed concertina-diamond modes would generally result by radially constraining the tu

This paper studies the indefinite stochastic LQ control problem with quadratic and mixed terminal state equality constraints, which can be transformed into a mathematical programming problem. By means of the Lagrangian multiplier theorem and Riesz representation theorem, the main result given in this paper is the necessary condition for indefinite stochastic LQ control with quadratic and mixed terminal equality constraints. The result shows that the different terminal state constraints will cause the endpoint condition of the differential Riccati equation to be changed. It coincides with the i

Multimedia sensor networks for real-time applications have strict constraints on delay, packet loss, and energy consumption requirements. For example, video streaming in a disaster-management scenario requires careful handling to ensure that the end-to-end delay is within the acceptable range and the video is received properly without any distortion. The failure to transmit a video stream effectively occurs for many reasons, including sensor function limitations, excessive power consumption, and a lack of routing reliability. When the subscription requested by a user is inconsistent, one problem is to find an optimal relaxation, which is a generalisation of the feedback vertex set problem on directed graphs, and thus it is an NP-hard task. Abstract (sommario):
AbstractSmall electric vehicles (SEVs) have the potential to contribute to climate protection, efficient land use, and mitigation of air pollution in cities. Even though, they show many benefits that could enhance urban quality of life, they are not yet widely used. In this paper, benefits as well as drawbacks for these vehicles are discussed by combining literature research and outcomes of a mixed-method approach with expert interviews and an online survey. Resulting from these arguments, a vision for SEVs in urban areas is drawn showing them integrated in a mix of various transport modes. Environmental benefits are derived, for example, from their lower weight and low maximum speed making them a more energy-efficient transport option than heavier cars. Additionally, the small vehicle size lowers land use for SEVs and, e.g., allows for less parking areas needed. However, they also hold constraints that need to be dealt with in different ways. On the one hand, the lower safety compared to passenger cars is an issue that is further worsened by current traffic regulations. On the other hand, costs in terms of purchase prices seem to be an issue for SEVs.

Abstract (sommario):
This chapter discusses the fundamentals of nonlinear optimization. Section 3.1 focuses on optimality conditions for unconstrained nonlinear optimization. Section 3.2 presents the first-order and second-order optimality conditions for constrained nonlinear optimization problems. This section presents the formulation and basic definitions of unconstrained nonlinear optimization along with the necessary, sufficient, and necessary and sufficient optimality conditions. An unconstrained nonlinear optimization problem deals with the search for a minimum of a nonlinear function f(x) of n real variables x = (x1, x2 , . . . , xn and is denoted as Each of the n nonlinear variables x1, x2 , . . . , xn are allowed to take any value from - ∞ to + ∞. Unconstrained nonlinear optimization problems arise in several science and engineering applications ranging from simultaneous solution of nonlinear equations (e.g., chemical phase equilibrium) to parameter estimation and identification problems (e.g., nonlinear least squares).

This chapter presents and discusses a review and comparison of low-end 360-degree and extended reality (XR) practices. The goal of the chapter is to assist both technologically and organizationally with the ubiquitous acceptance of these two technologies as part of the move toward immersive teaching and learning. The chapter shares an overview of rather fluctuant terminology: 360-degree videos and images, virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, extended reality, immersive teaching, and immersive learning. Fostering and accepting a standardized and understandable terminology is an important part of the application process of these technologies to enable immersive teaching and learning. Furthermore, this chapter will argue the importance of a low-end approach toward immersive teaching and learning due to constraints of various characters and as a part of the scalable construct of immersive teaching and learning in academic libraries and respectively on campus.

XML is a rather verbose representation of semistructured data, which may require huge amounts of storage space. Several summarized representations of XML data have been proposed, which can both provide succinct information and be directly queried. In this chapter we focus on compact representations based on the extraction of association rules from XML datasets. In particular, we show how patterns can be exploited to (possibly partially) answer queries, either when fast (and approximate) answers are required, or when the actual dataset is not available, e.g., it is currently unreachable. We focus on (a) schema patterns, representing exact or approximate dataset constraints, (b) instance patterns, which represent actual data summaries, and their use for answering queries.

Abstract (sommario):
This chapter provides an introduction to the basic notions in Mixed-Integer Linear Optimization. Sections 5.1 and 5.2 present the motivation, formulation, and outline of methods. Section 5.3 discusses the key ideas in a branch and bound framework for mixed-integer linear programming problems. A large number of optimization models have continuous and integer variables which appear linearly, and hence separably, in the objective function and constraints. These mathematical models are denoted as Mixed-Integer Linear Programming MILP problems. In many applications of MILP models the integer variables are 0 — 1 variables (i.e., binary variables), and in this chapter we will focus on this sub-class of MILP problems. A wide range of applications can be modeled as mixed-integer linear programming MILP problems. These applications have attracted a lot of attention in the field of Operations Research and include facility location and allocation problems, scheduling problems, and fixed-charge network problems. The excellent books of Nemhauser and Wolsey (1988), and Parker and Rardin (1988) provide not only an exposition to such applications but also very thorough presentation of the theory of discrete optimization. Applications of MILP models in Chemical Engineering have also received significant attention particularly in the areas of Process Synthesis, Design, and Control. These applications include (i) the minimum number of matches in heat exchanger synthesis (Papoulias and Grossmann, 1983; see also chapter 8) (ii) heat integration of sharp distillation sequences (Andrecovich and Westerberg, 1985); (iii) multicomponent multiproduct distillation column synthesis (Floudas and Anastasiadis, 1988); (iv) multiperiod heat exchanger network, and distillation system synthesis (Floudas and Grossmann, 1986; Paules and Floudas, 1988); flexibility analysis of chemical processes (Grossmann and Floudas, 1987); (v) structural properties of control systems (Georgiou and Floudas, 1989, 1990); (vi) scheduling of batch processes (e.g., Rich and Prokapakis, 1986, 1986; Kondili et al., 1993; Shah et al, 1993; Voudouris and Grossmann, 1992, 1993); and (vii) planning and scheduling of batch processes (Shah and Pantelides, 1991, Sahinidis et al, 1989, Sahinidis and Grossmann, 1991). In addition to the above applications, MILP models are employed as subproblems in the mixed-integer nonlinear optimization approaches which we will discuss in the next chapter. In this section, we will present the formulation of Mixed-Integer Linear Programming MILP problems, discuss the complexity issues, and provide a brief overview of the solution methodologies proposed for MILP models.

Abstract (sommario):
This chapter deals with the concept of first time right IC. A development of subsystems for wireless application is used as test case. The subsystems are Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), Medium Power Amplifier (MPA) and Variable Signal Generator (VSG). Several issues such as suitable multiband design flow and high speed switch must be solved. A new design methodology of integrated circuits for multiband application is presented. The design methodology is modified from a typical Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) flow. Core based design, parasitic aware approach and power constrained optimization are introduced into the new design flow. The same core circuit topology is used as main block to design 2.4 GHz and 3.5 GHz LNA and MPA. A power constrained optimization is applied to a test case amplifier i.e. broadband amplifier to get the optimized RF performance. The optimization is simulation-based technique. A 0.15 µm 85 GHz PHEMT is used in designing the LNA, MPA and broadband amplifier. This chapter also introduces the inventions of Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), Mixer, Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA), Power Amplifiers (PA) and Transmit-Receive Switch (T/R). These circuits are crucial components for RF and Microwave front-end integrated circuits. The elements of inventions of circuits are clearly explained. The inventions reflect the requirement or the need of solving current problem using available technology.

Abstract (sommario):
Dementia care in Portugal presents a mixed balance of strengths and important problems and challenges. This chapter begins by highlighting the scarcity of health service data on dementia, within a rapidly changing and complex array of health and social care systems. Public, private, and third-sector services are not integrated enough to fully meet the needs of people with dementia and their families. Despite examples of good standards in dementia care, some complex challenges still need tackling. Portugal does not have a National Dementia Plan, although formal efforts are being made and a general strategy has been proposed. The chapter briefly discusses leading issues, while highlighting that any selection of goals and the feasibility of achieving them are constrained by a shortage of resources. Taking the need to improve timely diagnosis and integrated formal services as an example, the exact role of primary care is one of the primary topics for discussion. In short, there are three aspects which Portugal does well in terms of dementia care: (1) every person with dementia has access to emergency services and, in principle, to primary care services within the public National Health Service; (2) there are examples of high-quality standards in clinical dementia care, mainly in urban centres, and an increasing interest from the social sector, non-governmental organizations, and private institutions in community or institutional social care; and (3) there is increasing interest in dementia-related service research, as well as in psycho-geriatric training. For the future, first, primary care should be more involved in early diagnosis of dementia and its appropriate disclosure, as well as in other areas, e.g. treatment monitoring in collaboration with specialized care, counselling and support, and monitoring caregivers’ health. Second, the complex bio-psycho-social needs in dementia should be better met through improvement of: timely access to community formal services or specialized accommodation when necessary; ‘dementia-friendly’ communities and health/social units (e.g. general hospitals, given the multimorbidity in people with dementia); management of behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (with more emphasis on non-pharmacological approaches, and less on antipsychotics); informal caregivers’ support, ensuring minimum standards of information, counselling, psycho-education, and other family interventions; and legal procedures, access to new technologies, and decent end-of-life care. Finally, gaps should be bridged between health and social care, fostering care coordination and case management in every phase of dementia (with standardization of dementia care processes, e.g. definition of the roles of professionals).

Abstract (sommario):
Understanding household farming behavior among smallholders is an essential element of land-change studies inasmuch as a considerable portion of the world is dominated by land-users of this kind. Smallholders (peasants in some literature) are especially important within the tropical forests of Mexico, and the southern Yucatán peninsular region is no exception. This region, as elsewhere in the tropics, is characterized by underdeveloped markets and the consequent partial engagement of frontier farmers as market participants. Sparse exchange opportunities resulting from remoteness, low population density, and poorly developed infrastructure constrain these farmers to maintain a strong focus on consumption production, especially in terms of staple foods. Indeed, until the late 1960s, households in the region were totally subsistence-based and had virtually no experience with the agricultural market. Today, smallholder farmers retain consumption production, though a growing proportion also produce crops for sale. While this dual position in the market and in subsistence is an increasingly prevalent feature of smallholder farmers throughout the developing world, studies of deforestation commonly ascribe to them a wholly commercial orientation by employing profit-maximizing theoretical structures as a basis for econometrically modeling their land-use decisions (e.g. Chomitz and Gray 1996; Cropper, Griffiths, and Mani 1999; Cropper, Puri, and Griffiths 2001; Nelson, Harris, and Stone 2001; Nelson and Hellerstein 1997; Panayotou and Sungsuwan 1994; Pfaff 1999). In essence, the assertion of profit-maximization rests on the assumption that agents are fully engaged in markets, from which it follows that production, being strictly a function of farm technology and exogenously given input and output prices, is entirely independent of consumption and labor supply (Barnum and Squire 1979). This chapter explores the implications of relaxing the perfect-markets assumption for the modeling of semi-subsistence and commercial land-use decisions. By introducing variables measuring the consumption side of the colonist household, evidence is presented to suggest that, consistent with mixed or hybrid production themes (e.g. Singh, Squire, and Strauss 1986; Turner and Brush 1987), farmers operating in a context of thin product and/or labor markets do not exhibit behavior corresponding to that of a commercially oriented profit-maximizing farm.

Abstract (sommario):
Modeling multibody systems subject to unilateral contacts and friction efficiently is challenging, and dynamic formulations based on the mixed linear complementarity problem (MLCP) are commonly used for this purpose. The accuracy of the MLCP solution method can be evaluated by determining the error introduced by it. In this paper, we find that commonly used MLCP error measures suffer from unit inconsistency leading to the error lacking any physical meaning. We propose a unit-consistent error measure which computes energy error components for each constraint dependent on the inverse effective m

Abstract (sommario):
A new semi-inverse design method for turbomachinery blading is proposed in this paper. Built on a time-marching Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes solver, the proposed design method takes pressure loading, blade tangential thickness, blade stacking line, and flow path contour as prescribed quantities and computes the corresponding three-dimensional blade camber surface. In order to have the option of imposing geometrical constraints on the designed blade shapes, a new algorithm is developed to solve the camber surface at specified spanwise grid-lines, after which the blade geometry is constructed

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Lean and dilute gasoline compression ignition (GCI) operation in spark ignition (SI) engines are an attractive strategy to attain high fuel efficiency and low NOx levels. However, this combustion mode is often limited to low-load engine conditions due to the challenges associated with autoignition controllability. In order to overcome this constrain, multi-mode (MM) operating strategies, consisting of advanced compression ignition (ACI) at low load and conventional SI at high load, have been proposed. In this 3-D CFD study the concept of multi-mode combustion using two RON98 gasoline

Abstract (sommario):
This paper describes the development and evaluation of mixed reality tools for the early stages of design and engineering processing. Externalization of ideal and real scenes, scripts, or frames are threads that stir the imaginative exploration of the mind to ideate, formulate, and represent ideas, fuzzy thoughts, notions, and/or dreams. The body in the mind, embodied imagination is more important than knowledge. Current computational tools and CAD systems are not equipped or fully adapted in the ability to intuitively convey creative thoughts, closely enact or connect with users in an effecti
