With the increase in travel frequency at global level, destinations compete with each other to attract tourists. The tourists have a vast array of destinations to choose from. The destinations compete at global as well as regional level. These developments in tourism bring forth the importance of marketing for a destination. The destination marketing is generally undertaken by destination marketing organizations (DMOs) which operate at national, regional as well as local level in a country. In context of India, MOT (Ministry of Tourism, Government of India) undertakes the role of a DMO and is responsible for formulation and implementation of marketing strategies to promote India as a destination at global level. Further, it is imperative to understand the perception of other stakeholder about the marketing strategies of MOT in order to recognize the effectiveness of its marketing efforts. Being co-creator of destination image, inbound tour operators are considered as the key stakeholders at the destination. The objective of this chapter is to understand the perception Indian inbound tour operators towards the marketing strategies carried out by MOT. The data for the study was collected through structured questionnaire. The findings of the study indicated that inbound tour operators perceived marketing plans adopted by Ministry of tourism were effective to position India as a tourist destination at global level. At planning stage of strategy making for promoting India as tourist destination, MOT does not seek the opinion of inbound tour operators. It is suggested that MOT should involve inbound tour operators for drawing the marketing strategies for India as they are key seller for the tourism product.

Lancée en 1990, l’expression soft power s’apparente désormais à un « mot-valise », ce qui ne rend pas justice à l’intention de son inventeur, Joseph Nye, de théoriser l’influence américaine par les « valeurs universelles » et le pouvoir d’attraction de la culture. La France jouit à cet égard de nombreux atouts, qui lui valent une bonne image dans le monde. Mais celle-ci, telle qu’elle est révélée par les sondages, apparaît, à l’examen, superficielle et fragilisée par des performances décevantes, dès lors que sont en jeu des indicateurs plus techniques et objectifs, qui mesurent les performances éducatives, économiques et en termes d’innovation, d’État de droit et de démocratie. Il faut donc s’interroger sur les usages du soft power dans un environnement rendu conflictuel par les abus, sur ce terrain, des régimes autoritaires et penser le basculement d’une logique de rayonnement vers une logique d’influence et de diplomatie des idées.

Identifying each action individually without overlapping of movements is a tedious process due to continuous change of frames within short duration. So proper tracking of human movements for each action is important. Hence new structure-based human action recognition and tracker technique (HART) is proposed. It uses joint trajectory images and visual feature to design each human action. At first, a structural based method employed to extract human skeleton data points from RGB (Red Green Blue) videos. Next, a Multitude Object Tracker (MOT) is proposed which uses the trajectory of human skeleton joints in an image space for identification of actions. Then, Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) combined with Support Vector Machine (SVM) is applied to extract physical body shape and action information. Finally, the action label and interconnected keypoints in humans is jointly detected as end result. The proposed HART technique effectively performed well with the accuracy of about 82% over the other activity recognition methods.

Abstract (sommario):

The article examines the significance of the topic of France in the correspondence (1762–1774) between the French self-taught philosopher Valentin Jamre Duval and the lady-of-waiting Anastasia Sokolova (De Ribas). The correspondence is a rich source of information about the perception of the image of Russia and Catherine II in Western Europe. The letters present in a positive way the reform activities of the Empress, her legislative initiatives and achievements in various areas of Russian life. The French theme serves as a counterpoint to the image of Russia. Its interpretation is predominantly negative. Jamеray-Duval, a peasant by birth, sharply rejects the French government's policy towards the peasantry and criticizes the harsh fiscal laws. He protests against the support that France provides to the Ottoman Empire during the Russian-Turkish War of 1768–1774. As part of the military confrontation, the philosopher perceives the work of the abbe Chappe d'Auteroche “Voyage en Sibérie par ordre du Roi” (1768). Duval also opposes to the France's claim to cultural hegemony. Most of the French episodes of correspondence were shortened when the publication was carried out in 1784. The focus of the publication prepared by the famous Russian diplomat F.-A. (F.I.) Koch and designed for a Western European audience, was centered on promoting an idealized image of Russia. The cuts were clearly made taking into account possible diplomatic complications and in order to avoid unwanted analogies. The recently found originals of the letters of Valentin Jamеray-Duval allow the possibility to restore the real context of correspondence.

The once-proud graziers have begun to have doubts. They have begun to doubt whether everything they used to believe, everything that gave meaning to what they have been doing, still makes sense. This essay takes the reader home to the graziers and out into the Norwegian countryside: the mountains, forests and deep fertile valleys, the terrain the Norwegians call outfields (utmark). Based on conversations with graziers in different parts of Norway, this essay discusses the future of grazing in the outfields against the backdrop of the big, as well as the small, political and social issues that both the graziers and we as a society are facing. For the graziers are struggling with many questions today. Is it no longer ecologically sustainable to use the outfields resources for food production? Shouldn’t the outfields be a resource for the production of food and fibre anymore? Is there no place for grazing animals in the Norwegian mountains in the future? Grazing farmers are currently asking themselves these questions and more. They feel degraded and exposed in the public debate, and the feeling tears at their self-image and makes every day grey; it becomes increasingly difficult to find motivation for each day that passes. But what can be done to reverse this trend? What can the grazing farmers do themselves, and what do we others need to do for them, politically as well as socially? This chapter discusses the emergence of a new concept of outfields and how it has affected grazing in the outfields. The essay raises a number of important questions that we as a society need to address in the debate about the future role of traditional upland grazing areas in our landscape.
