This thesis addresses the problem of analysing clinical MRI using modern computer vision methods for a variety of clinical and research-related tasks. We use automated machine learning algorithms to develop a spinal MRI analysis framework for a number of tasks such as vertebrae detection, labelling; disc and vertebrae segmentation, and radiological grading, and we validate the framework on a large, heterogeneous dataset of 300 symptomatic back pain patients from multiple clinical sites and scanners. Our framework has a number of back pain research and other spine-related clinical applications

The world first MRI study showed that the standard clinical measure used to define the extent of the deformity is inadequate and further use of three-dimensional MRI should be considered by spinal surgeons.

Abstract (sommario):
Hyperpolarized 83Kr has previously demonstrated MRI contrast that is sensitive to the chemical composition of the surface in a porous model system. One-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of hyperpolarized 83Kr has also revealed distinctive longitudinal relaxation times from selected regions of an ex vivo rat lung originating from differences in surface to volume ratio. However, at the time, MRI using longitudinal relaxation for contrast was not attempted due to limited signal intensities. Methodological advances of the spin exchange optical pumping process have led to a substa

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: Moyamoya vasculopathy is a rare condition characterized by “puff of smoke” angiographic appearance. The natural history includes recurrent transient ischemic attacks, ischemic stroke or intracerebral bleeding. Pharmacological treatment is not effective in preventing these clinical events and patients may benefit from surgical revascularization, but the timing of surgery is still controversial, especially at the early stages of the disease. Although angiography is still the gold standard for diagnosis and evaluation of patients with moyamoya, it has several limitations because of

Abstract (sommario):
Magnetic resonance imaging is a routine and powerful diagnostic technique capable of providing detailed information about the structure and composition of the tissues. This diploma thesis is concerned with the mechanisms of contrast origin and contrast modifications by molecular and nanoparticle contrast agents. First sections of the thesis summarize basic knowledge about pulse sequences and it aims to provide an overview on MRI contrast agent with a special emphasis on paramagnetic gadolinium contrast agents and superparamagnetic nanoparticles. The main purpose of this study is to develop the

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
This thesis describes the theory for static and dynamic magnetic-resonance imaging using contrast agents affecting T1 relaxation time. The available acquisition methods in the specified facility of Masaryk Oncological Institute in Brno are described. The sequences for subsequent experimental measurements are selected. The used phantoms are described. Acquisition protocol for measuring is described briefly and the evaluation method for the measured data is suggested. The best acquisition sequence and a method of measurements is chosen influenced by estimation of relaxation time T1, sensitivity
