Abstract (sommario):
In this article, the author is trying to answer the fundamental question: what is present-day tourism space like at a time of highly increasing flows of people or even a shift from the space of a ‘place’ to the space of a ‘flow’? The article puts special stress on how to define the current unique multi-functional space. The author attempts to define tourism space as a new entity, founded on poly-functionality (i.e. different functions and use of the same space both at the same time and in different seasons), multi-scale (overlapping of tourism spaces depending on the scale concerned), multi-layer, as well as the multi-motivation of its creators and users, or even multi-relativity.

Abstract (sommario):
In Taiwan, activity centers such as school auditoriums and gymnasiums are common multi-functional spaces that are often used for performances, singing, and speeches. However, most cases are designed using only Sabine’s equation for architectural acoustics. Although that estimation formula is simple and fast, the calculation process ignores many details. Furthermore, while more accurate analysis can be obtained through acoustics simulation software, it is more complicated and time-consuming and thus is rarely used in practical design. The purpose of this study is to use machine learning to propose a predictive model of acoustic indicators as a simple evaluation tool for the architectural design and interior decoration of multi-functional activity centers. We generated 800 spaces using parametric design, adopting Odeon to obtain acoustic indicators. The machine learning model was trained with basic information of the space. We found that through GBDT and ANN algorithms, almost all acoustic indicators could be predicted within JND ± 2, and the JND of C50, C80, STI, and the distribution of SPL could reach within ±1. Through machine learning methods, we established a convenient, fast, and accurate prediction model and were able to obtain various acoustic indicators of the space without 3D-modeling or simulation software.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper proposes a new unsupervised fuzzy feature mapping method based on fMRI data and combines it with multi-view support vector machine to construct a classification model for computer-aided diagnosis of autism. Firstly, a multi-output TSK fuzzy system is adopted to map the original feature data to the linear separable high-dimensional space. Then a manifold regularization learning framework is introduced, and a new method of unsupervised fuzzy feature learning is proposed. Finally, a multi-view SVM algorithm is used for classification tasks. The experimental results show that the method in this paper can effectively extract important features from the fMRI data in the resting state and improve the model's interpretability on the premise of ensuring the superior and stable classification performance of the model.

Abstract (sommario):
National land spatial planning is dominated by urban-agricultural-ecological functions and has become a Chinese national strategic issue. However, the three functional spaces have serious conflicts in the karst areas, causing inconsistencies in regional development and triggering poverty and a more serious situation for the ecological environment. In this study, we used the gray multi-objective dynamic programming model and the conversion of land use and its effects at small region extent model to simulate the developmental structures of future land use in the karst areas of Southwest China under a socioeconomic development scenario, an arable land protection scenario and an ecological security scenario. Finally, based on the coordination of the urban-agricultural-ecological functions, we used a functional space classification method to optimize the spatial structures of the national land space for 2035 year and to identify different functional areas. The results showed that the three scenarios with different objectives had differences in the quantities and spatial structures of land use but that the area of forestland was the largest and the area of water was the smallest in each scenario. The optimization of the national land space was divided into seven functional areas—urban space, agricultural space, ecological space, urban-agricultural space, urban-ecological space, agricultural-ecological space and urban-agricultural-ecological space. The ecological space was the largest and the urban-ecological space was the smallest among seven functional areas. The different types of functional spaces had significant differentiation characteristics in the layouts. The urban-agricultural space, urban-ecological space, agricultural-ecological space and urban-agricultural-ecological space can effectively alleviate the impacts of human activities and agricultural production activities in karst areas, promote the improvement of rocky desertification and improve the quality of the regional ecological environment. The results of this research can provide support for decisions about the balanced development of the national land space and the improvement of environmental quality in the karst areas.

Abstract (sommario):
Considering functional and experiential congestion in Kadıköy, the paper deals with the concept of “Bypass in Urban Space” in the context of the user-centred design. The case study is limited with the axis extending from Söğütlüçeşme and General Asım Gündüz Street which is connected to the main artery. Kadıköy, as one of the rapidly growing and transforming urban centres in Istanbul, reflects variable traumas in terms of human-environment behaviour relationships. A research model is developed to identify these traumas and produce a solution through bypassing the congestion in the area. Within the scope of the study, it is aimed to contribute to the dynamic structure of the city by creating new functional experience spaces in the capillary streets. On the other hand, it is aimed to design the spaces that lead the user to stop and perceive the environment beyond its transition function of the main artery within the dense pedestrian and vehicle traffic. By the research model, it is suggested multi-functional creative scenarios through the problems and hypotheses identified within the framework of the user-environment connection. Environmental and behavioural research, conceptual readings, sketch of ideas and visualization of conceptual studies, the designer scenarios are the main phases of the research as well as developing a proposal within the scope of contribution to the field. Most of design solutions analyses several dynamics such as bypass, main artery, in-between space, spatial conjunction, integration in urban space. So, it is aimed to design integrative mobile spaces for continuity of user-environment relationship beyond establishing a physical and visual connection.

Abstract (sommario):
A laboratory small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) system with a dual energy (Mo and Cr) source has been designed and established with the aim of studying the heterogeneity in high-Zmetallic structural materials such as steels (Fe alloy) and other materials. With the combination of Mo and Cr energies, various camera lengths (maximum of 2400 mm), and an area detector, three decades ofqrange has been achieved, from 0.024 to 14 nm−1. In real space, the probing periodic distance is a maximum of 261 nm. SAXS profiles of 9Cr-ODS steel powders with good statistics with a measurement time of 6 h show the aptness and viability of this system for the investigation of high-`Z' (high-absorption) metallic structural materials. In addition to having Mo and Cr sources, a flexible sample mounting stage permits measurements on a wide range of materials from soft to hard and liquid to solid, both in transmission and in grazing-incidence geometry.

Abstract (sommario):
The concept of multi-sensory perception of cities is one of the elements shaping the complete image of the city. It is an aspect as important to the recipient as the urban structure. The study of the multisensory record of public spaces gives a better chance to understand: the identity of the place, the changing dimensions of cultural heritage, local social problems, and even conditions influencing spatial decisions. Multisensory research has an implementation value and can be an important, previously unaccounted for factor, influencing the revitalization program and planning decisions. Therefore, it is so important to analyze the available literature on the subject, conduct scientific observation of the research area, create a proposal for a hybrid research methodology on multi-sensory recording of space and determine their relationship with activities in the field of urban planning. The trial area – selected public spaces of the Praga – Północ district in Warsaw was adopted according to predetermined criteria, the most important of which were: authentic urban tissue, downtown area, architectural and functional diversity of buildings.

Abstract (sommario):
This article explores how young people today engage with physical space and how it can best be utilized within ministry to youth. Sociological research has suggested a movement away from thought on physical space and its impact on creating a place for young people to be rooted in community. Through visual research conducted on a current youth ministry, it was discovered that physical spaces directly impact youth and their ability to belong to a faith-based community. It was also discovered that of the two youth ministries analyzed in this study – one in the US and one in the UK – there was the practice of attempting to create a third place for youth to congregate. From the visual research conclusions, this article argues for the importance of creating a place for youth and how this can be achieved in multi-functional spaces, specifically through the utilization of music.

Abstract (sommario):
Daylight has a significant impact on the perception of the building space. The term “lightspace” is introduced to determine phenomena of sensorial perception of architectural object’s indoor space and four different components of lightspace, such as functional, architectural and artistic, light-technical and visual, are considered. Further, three groups of architectural and artistic design techniques were estimated: based on space modeling (organisation of lightspaces in the building structure, organization of multi-light spaces, plasticity organization of lightspace, methods of natural light penetration through the shell of the building), light modeling (the distribution of light in space and its spectral composition), and time modeling (light dynamic, transformation of the building parts, movement of people in the place). Attention is drawn to relationship between diverse lightspace design techniques and architectural practice.

Abstract (sommario):
In the industrial environment, there are more and more rooms that are rented out for workers and families, and the cupboard is one of the products that is often needed is a cupboard. Storage aids should be designed for safe, comfortable, ergonomic, and aesthetic use. Multi-functional wardrobes are an important aspect of storage and space-saving work. Multi-functional wardrobe designs have developed, both in terms of form and function. However, along with the development of the times, there are demands for additional functions from existing multi-functional cabinets. Based on this background, this study aims to design and manufacture multi-functional wardrobe products according to consumers' requirements. For this research's success, the Kano method and the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) are used. The results obtained show 18 attributes (customer requirements) and 18 attributes (technical response) technical parameters implemented in a multi-functional wardrobe product design. The addition of functions to this multi-functional wardrobe product is a wardrobe with 2 (two) functions and 1 (accessories) additional in one product, which can be used as a cupboard, table, and table along with a chair. In operation, it is effortless because it has a knock-down system (can be folded). When used as a table, there are chairs on the right and left sides of the cabinet door that can be removed.

AbstractThe concept of essential map and topological transversality due to A. Granas is extended to multi-valued maps in locally convex spaces and it is next applied to prove the solvability of boundary value problems for certain neutral functional differential equations. In order to achieve a required compactness property, the weak topology in a Sobolev space is considered. The topological tool established in the first part of the paper allows to avoid some obstacles which are encountered when trying to use standard degree-theoretical arguments.

Abstract (sommario):
The vast net of fibres within and underneath the cortex is optimised to support the convergence of different levels of brain organisation. Here, we propose a novel coordinate system of the human cortex based on an advanced model of its connectivity. Our approach is inspired by seminal, but so far largely neglected models of cortico–cortical wiring established by postmortem anatomical studies and capitalises on cutting-edge in vivo neuroimaging and machine learning. The new model expands the currently prevailing diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) tractography approach by incorporation of additional features of cortical microstructure and cortico–cortical proximity. Studying several datasets and different parcellation schemes, we could show that our coordinate system robustly recapitulates established sensory-limbic and anterior–posterior dimensions of brain organisation. A series of validation experiments showed that the new wiring space reflects cortical microcircuit features (including pyramidal neuron depth and glial expression) and allowed for competitive simulations of functional connectivity and dynamics based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and human intracranial electroencephalography (EEG) coherence. Our results advance our understanding of how cell-specific neurobiological gradients produce a hierarchical cortical wiring scheme that is concordant with increasing functional sophistication of human brain organisation. Our evaluations demonstrate the cortical wiring space bridges across scales of neural organisation and can be easily translated to single individuals.

Abstract (sommario):
A functional enzyme displays activity with at least one substrate and can be represented by a vector in substrate–activity space. Many enzymes, including GSTs (glutathione transferases), are promiscuous in the sense that they act on alternative substrates, and the corresponding vectors operate in multidimensional space. The direction of the vector is governed by the relative activities of the diverse substrates. Stochastic mutations of already existing enzymes generate populations of variants, and clusters of functionally similar mutants can serve as parents for subsequent generations of enzymes. The proper evolving unit is a functional quasi-species, which may not be identical with the ‘best’ variant in its generation. The manifestation of the quasi-species is dependent on the substrate matrix used to explore catalytic activities. Multivariate analysis is an approach to identifying quasi-species and to investigate evolutionary trajectories in the directed evolution of enzymes for novel functions.

Abstract (sommario):
As modern embedded systems are becoming more and more ubiquitous and interconnected, they attract a world-wide attention of attackers and the security aspect is more important than ever during the design of those systems. Moreover, given the ever-increasing complexity of the applications that run on these systems, it becomes increasingly difficult to meet all security criteria. While extra-functional design objectives such as performance and power/energy consumption are typically taken into account already during the very early stages of embedded systems design, system security is still mostly considered as an afterthought. That is, security is usually not regarded in the process of (early) design-space exploration of embedded systems, which is the critical process of multi-objective optimization that aims at optimizing the extra-functional behavior of a design. This position paper argues for the development of techniques for quantifying the ’degree of secureness’ of embedded system design instances such that these can be incorporated in a multi-objective optimization process. Such technology would allow for the optimization of security aspects of embedded systems during the earliest design phases as well as for studying the trade-offs between security and the other design objectives such as performance, power consumption and cost.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. With the growth of urban population and the increasing urban density, urban green space has become a kind of precious and limited resources. It not only has a positive impact on the health of urban residents with high work-life pressure but also offers opportunities as part of blue-green solutions for sustainable urban water management. Therefore, to effectively utilise the limited green spaces, experts are exploring a way of organising the green space layout to balance human needs and other urban developing requirements (e.g., in this case, urban stormwater management) within the certain common area. With this target, translating the space accessibility to human and other urban developments on green space into space parameter is a critical step to organize space model for the multi-functional green space. Although there are plenty of existing spatial parameters developed for evaluating human accessibility (such as travel distance, land-use, spatial connectivity etc.), there isn’t a way to organize them to satisfy the diverse evaluation needs from different research purposes. Besides, most of them are suitable for analyzing space on a city scale or at least a precinct scale in a 2D model. To the accurate design on a micro-scale, it is still a big challenge. The reason is some parameters for city analysis don’t work on a micro-scale, and some parameters should be reorganised in the evaluation algorithm or should include more micro-scale factors. Thus, this paper, based on the characteristics of human behaviour, redefines the complex concept- accessibility and develop measurable parameters with feasible factors on micro-scale. Overall, this paper presents: (1) a new definition of walking accessibility of green space; (2) evaluation criteria (3) parameters (depth and Integration) reflecting connectivity criteria (4) Parameters (travel time and speed, slope, direction changes) relating travel distance criteria with updated evaluation algorithm and factors. This paper aims at useful spatial parameters and evaluation measures that are applicable to integrate human needs within multi-functional green space design, especially green stormwater management design.

Abstract (sommario):
Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is technology that can significantly increase the share of renewable energy in final energy supply and are one of essential technologies for the nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEB), new build and refurbished. In the article (a) an experimental semitransparent BIPV glazed façade structure with 60% of PV cell coverage is shown; (b) energy efficiency indicators were developed based on identified impact parameters using experimental data; and (c) multi-parametric models of electricity generation, preheating of air for space ventilation, and dynamic thermal insulation features that enable prediction of solar energy utilization in different climate conditions are shown. The modeled efficiency of electricity production of BIPV was in the range between 8% and 9.5% at daily solar radiation above 1500 Wh/day, while low impact of outdoor air temperature and ventilation air flow rate on PV cell cooling was noticed. Between 35% and 75% of daily solar radiation can be utilized by preheating the air for space ventilation, and 4.5% to 7.5% of daily solar radiation can be utilized in the form of heat gains through opaque envelope walls.

Abstract (sommario):
Public open spaces can positively contribute to people’s quality of life. With the world’s growing urban population, especially in developing countries, quality public spaces are becoming increasingly important. Streets are considered important public spaces for people-environment interactions. Streets play an important social role in communities’ lives and can contribute to a sense of community. Using people-environment interaction as theoretical framework, the study used a qualitative approach to explore social dynamics in a multi-modal street (Helen Joseph Street) in a South Africa metropolitan city (Pretoria). Aspects of ethnography was applied using observations and semi-structured interviews to generate data from 32 participants about social dynamics in the street. Themes that emerged from the content analysis of the data include: the multi-functional role of the street, serving an economic, cultural, social, political and functional role; the generation of vigorous social interaction with multi-levels of contact/interaction; the interrelated nature of the social and spatial/built environment; the role of the street space in facilitating social interaction and being supportive of the social environment. The findings illustrate the interrelatedness and complexity of people and their environment in Helen Joseph Street. It is suggested that streets have the potential to positively impact on people’s social lives. Streets can act as platforms for social interaction by becoming self-reinforced social spaces that attract people and in return change urban spaces into vibrant public spaces.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract There is a growing body of academic research that suggests that we are living in an increasingly superdiverse society, where multi-ethnic, multicultural and multilingual peoples cohabit on a daily basis. Superdiversity challenges any nation state’s ideological claim of being representative of only one culture and one language, and indeed, in relation to the latter, highlights the increasing phenomenon of translanguaging, both in the wider world of social interactions and in the classroom. In this context, it is argued here that interpreter training needs to respond to superdiversity and translanguaging, as future interpreters are part of the same social world, and will undoubtedly encounter translanguaging in their future professional life. In superdiverse and translanguaging societies, source and target languages are no longer a one-to-one linguistic and cultural translation, but a far more fluid, dynamic and multiple interchange of repertoires and resources that people access in multi-varied and multi-functional ways. In this increasingly complex scenario, languages are not seen as bounded entities, but rather as fluid and interchangeable in the situated moment, and this, it is argued, needs to be reflected in pedagogy. Moreover, translanguaging (between bi/multilinguals) has been shown to promote greater cognitive development when tackling complex issues and rationalising processes. Also, translanguaging aids social and professional identity work, as interpreter students develop their understandings of the role their future interpreter life can and need to play in their career. Drawing on my own research and the observations made on the present and future needs of interpreting studies, a ‘translanguaging space’ (Li Wei 2011) is proposed for curriculum design in interpreter training.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper considers the issues of designing a modern courtyard space for high-rise buildings in Volgograd to obtain a multifunctional environment through the arrangement of new recreational territories and the search of innovative planning methods for urban landscape design. In professionals’ opinion, the problem concerning the design and construction of recreational zones and greenery planting is very acute for Volgograd, such territories are often absent in many districts of the city. Generally, the decrease in the natural component and a low level of recreational territories improvement are typical for Volgograd. In addition, the problem of designing a modern urban courtyard space for high-rise buildings to obtain a multi-functional environment exists and requires a thorough investigation. The question is if there is a possibility to solve these difficult tasks by means of local design methods only or whether there should be a complex approach at the stage of the formation of master plans for modern residential areas and which modern design methods can ensure the creation of a courtyard space as a multi-functional environment. These questions as well as some other ones will be the topic of our paper.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This paper presents the methodology and results of the research aimed to identify the current and potential functions of open public spaces in post-Soviet modernist urban districts in the context of sustainable urban development. The research is based on the sociotope mapping methodology facilitating the identification and interpretation of functional characteristics of urban open public spaces. The data for this research has been collected in three selected pilot multi-apartment modernistic districts of Kaunas city (Lithuania) using two sociological research tools – site observation protocols and user questionnaires. The research results show the need for actors involved in planning and (re)development of modernistic districts to incorporate a larger diversity of space elements enabling different local area users (individuals, families, organizations) to use and experience more natural, social, economic and other values available locally at different time (year, day) periods.
