Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe Corsica-Sardinia lithospheric block is commonly considered as a region of very low seismicity and the scarce reported seismicity for the area has till now precluded the reliable assessment of its seismic hazard. The time-honored assumption has been recently questioned and the historical seismicity of Sardinia has been reevaluated. Even more, several seismogenic nodes capable of M5 + have been recognized in the Corsica-Sardinia block exploiting the morphostructural zonation technique, calibrated to earlier results obtained for the Iberian peninsula, which has structural lithospheric affinities with the Corsica-Sardinia block. All this allows now for the computation of reliable earthquake hazard maps at bedrock conditions exploiting the power of Neo Deterministic Seismic Hazard Assessment (NDSHA) evaluation. NDSHA relies upon the fundamental physics of wave generation and propagation in complex geologic structures and generates realistic time series from which several earthquake ground motion parameters can be readily extracted. NDSHA exploits in an optimized way all the available knowledge about lithospheric mechanical parameters, seismic history, seismogenic zones and nodes. In accordance with continuum mechanics, the tensor nature of earthquake ground motion is preserved computing realistic signals using structural models obtained by tomographic inversion and earthquake source information readily available in literature. The way to this approach has been open by studies focused on continental Italy and Sicily, where the agreement between hazard maps obtained using seismogenic zones, informed by earthquake catalog data, and the maps obtained using only seismogenic nodes are very good.

Abstract (sommario):
A New Paradigm (data driven and not like the currently model driven) is needed for Reliable Seismic Hazard Assessment RSHA. Neo-Deterministic Seismic Hazard Assessment (NDSHA) integrates earthquake geology, earthquake science, and particularly earthquake physics to finally achieve a New (and needed) Paradigm for Reliable Seismic Hazard Assessment RSHA.Although observations from many recent destructive earthquakes have all confirmed the validity of NDSHA’s approach and application to earthquake hazard forecasting-nonetheless damaging earthquakes still cannot yet be predicted with a precision requirement consistent with issuing a red alert and evacuation order to protect civil populations. However, intermediate-term (time scale) and middle-range (space scale) predictions of main shocks above a pre-assigned threshold may be properly used for the implementation of low-key preventive safety actions, as recommended by UNESCO in 1997. Furthermore, a proper integration of both seismological and geodetic information has been shown to also reliably contribute to a reduction of the geographic extent of alarms and it therefore defines a New Paradigm for TimeDependent Hazard Scenarios: Intermediate-Term (time scale) and Narrow-Range (space scale) Earthquake Prediction.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, we discuss a possible combination of Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) and Neo-deterministic Seismic Hazard Assessment (NDSHA), and propose a new warning model, EEW2.0. The aim is to provide a differentiated warning alert to various end-users based on the results of seismic hazard assessment evaluation. The implementation of such a system contains three basic steps: (a) classification of “potential to cause hazard” in terms of magnitude; (b) determination of the source areas and building a hazard database in terms of Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) maps, considering all possible earthquake scenarios in the source area, for the whole protected area; (3) equipping unique decision framework for specific end-users. When a damaging earthquake (M ≥ 5.0) is detected, EEW2.0 quickly matches the prepared MMI map by estimated magnitude and epicenter, then directly extracts the MMI value and issues an early warning to the public. With the great attention and resources put into the reduction in seismic and its secondary risk in the 21st century, the proposed EEW2.0 will likely play an active role in protecting lives and reducing economic losses.

Abstract (sommario):
A fixed increment of magnitude is equivalent to multiply the seismic moment by a factor γEM related to the partial factor γq acting on the seismic moment representing the fault. A comparison is made between the hazard maps obtained with the Neo-Deterministic Seismic Hazard Assessment (NDSHA), using two different approaches: one based on the events magnitude, listed in parametric earthquake catalogues compiled for the study areas, with sources located within the seismogenic zones; the other uses the seismogenic nodes identified by means of pattern recognition techniques applied to morphostructural zonation (MSZ), and increases the reference magnitude by a constant amount tuned by the safety factor γEM.Using γEM=2.0, in most of the territory the two approaches produce totally independent, comparable hazard maps, based on the quite long Italian catalogue. This represents a validation of the seismogenic nodes method and a tuning of the safety factor γEM at about 2.

Abstract (sommario):
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality on a global scale, and the development of accurate detection and imaging methods for HCC cells is urgently needed. Herein, by connecting peptide L5, which can specifically bind to the overexpressed Glypican-3 (GPC-3) protein of HCC cells with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) moiety ammonium cation-functionalized 9,10-distyrylanthracene (NDSA) via the “click” reaction, we synthesized a fluorescent probe NDSA-L5. In an aqueous solution, the probe shows weak emission, whereas, in the presence of the GPC-3 protein, bright fluorescence can be obtained since NDSA-L5 binds to the GPC-3 protein, leading to the restricted intramolecular movement of AIE-active NDSA-L5. The imaging and flow cytometry experiments demonstrate that the NDSA-L5 probe can rapidly accumulate in the subcutaneous HCC cells and liver tumor tissue and shows a potential application in early detection and surgical navigation for HCC cancer.

Abstract (sommario):
Protein-mediated RNA stabilization plays profound roles in chloroplast gene expression. Genetic studies have indicated that chloroplast ndhA transcripts, encoding a key subunit of the NADH dehydrogenase-like complex that mediates photosystem I cyclic electron transport and facilitates chlororespiration, are stabilized by PPR53 and its orthologs, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Here, we report that CHLOROPLAST RNA SPLICING 2 (CRS2)-ASSOCIATED FACTOR (CAF) proteins activate SUPPRESSOR OF THYLAKOID FORMATION 1 (SOT1), an ortholog of PPR53 in Arabidopsis thaliana, enhancing their affinity for the 5′ ends of ndhA transcripts to stabilize these molecules while inhibiting the RNA endonuclease activity of the SOT1 C-terminal SMR domain. In addition, we established that SOT1 improves the splicing efficiency of ndhA by facilitating the association of CAF2 with the ndhA intron, which may be due to the SOT1-mediated stability of the ndhA transcripts. Our findings shed light on the importance of PPR protein interaction partners in moderating RNA metabolism.

Abstract (sommario):
Morphological distinctions between sugar maples and black maples are not consistently evident, and molecular assessment of genetic diversity is lacking for these taxa. We examined restriction-site polymorphisms in the ndhA intron of the chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) in populations of sugar maples and black maples representing their zones of allopatry and sympatry in eastern North America. Restriction-site analysis of the ndhA intron after digestion with HinfI and Sau3AI yielded no polymorphisms. Restriction digestion of the ndhA intron with TaqI revealed two cpDNA haplotypes that were neither geographically localized nor taxon specific. Although testing additional accessions of sugar maples and black maples for cpDNA variation will further elucidate patterns of genetic variation, our initial results suggest that the taxa are either exchanging genes or share an ancestral cpDNA polymorphism.

Abstract (sommario):
The present study evaluates the evidence about the principal sources of fat in the Australian diet from the nationalper capitafood supply data (apparent consumption; AC) and the national dietary survey of 6255 adults aged 25 to 64 years (NDSA). The AC and the NDSA data were converted to, and expressed on, an equivalent food basis to allow appropriate comparisons of foods consumed, and food sources of dietary fat. The AC figures showed that the principal sources of fat nationally were meat, edible fats, fat spreads and oils, and milk and milk products. As an estimate of adult food consumption the AC underestimated beef and veal, lamb, total meat, and poultry consumption by 41, 10, 29 and 13% respectively, and overestimated offal, milk and milk products, and fats and oils by 15, 61, 20, and 29% respectively. The AC data rated fat spreads and cooking fats as providing more of the fat in the adult diet than did the NDSA, both in terms of total fat and fat as a percentage of energy. Conversely, on this same basis, the AC underrated meats as sources of fat in the adult diet. Other foods were of similar importance as sources of dietary fat in both sets of data. The AC markedly underestimated adult fat intake at 32% of energy compared with the NDSA result of 37%. These results have implications for epidemiological research and for the development of food and nutrition policy and programmes in Australia and similar countries.

Abstract (sommario):
A new dual simplex type algorithm for the Minimum Cost Network Flow Problem (MCNFP) is presented. The proposed algorithm belongs to a special 'exterior- point simplex type' category. Similarly to the classical network dual simplex algorithm (NDSA), this algorithm starts with a dual feasible tree-solution and reduces the primal infeasibility, iteration by iteration. However, contrary to the NDSA, the new algorithm does not always maintain a dual feasible solution. Instead, the new algorithm might reach a basic point (tree-solution) outside the dual feasible area (exterior point - dual infeasible tree).

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. Damages to built and natural environments are essentially changes that needs to be detected and quantified. This is particularly true for the change detection approach. While the use of vegetation indices is effective for such assessment in natural or vegetated areas, the use of built-up indices does not yield useful results. This is because there is usually no significant reduction in materials. However, typhoon-damaged buildings are usually characterized by a change in form, shape, color, and texture. In this study, we examined the use of local spatial autocorrelation (LSA) to evaluate the level of damage to buildings. In particular, the local Moran’s I was used, and an index called the normalized difference spatial autocorrelation (NDSA) was developed. Similar with other indices, the values are within the range of −1 to 1. NDSA using local Getis-Ord Gi and local Geary’s C were also generated. With the observation that LSA generally decreases due to damages (especially to manmade structures), positive NDSA identifies the damage areas. The magnitude of the values corresponded to the level or degree of damage sustained as interpreted from very high-resolution satellite image. It was noted that the manual tagging of damages had missed buildings which are clearly damaged or destroyed based on the visual comparison of pre- and post-typhoon satellite images. This illustrates the value of the NDSA not only to assess damage on its own but also for guiding manual tagging from image and prioritizing post-disaster needs assessment and recovery operation.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: This study aimed to determine the sex ratio and the average age of deceased persons in the town of Kananga, commune of Ndesha. Method: This is a cross- sectional descriptive type study, we used the documentary analysis method to collect the data and had a sample of 269 deaths notified to the Civil Registry between 2018 and 2020. Results: The crude mortality rate (CBR) in the commune of Ndesha is estimated at 0.044% or 4.4 deaths per 10,000 inhabitants between 2018 and 2020. This rate has decreased very slightly over time, from 3.5 per 10,000 in 2018 to 4.8 per ten thousand in 2020. The age group 0-14 is the most affected, with 108 cases or 34.2%; those from Demba (with 30.9%) and Dibaya (with 26.4% of cases) are the most represented. The male gender represents 64.3% of cases against 35.7% of female subjects; the sex ratio is 1.8 men who die for every 1 woman. The average age of the deceased subjects is 38.7 years, with a standard deviation of 27.8: it is therefore dispersed between 10.9 and 66.5 years. Conclusion: The inhabitants of the commune of Ndesha do not register their deaths with the civil status service of the commune. For this, we recommend to the municipal authorities to impose on the population the death certificate when a family member is dead to allow the country to have a mortality statistics.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose: This study aimed to present the change in humeral retroversion (HR) angle (HRA) that occurs in childhood and young adulthood and the potential developmental difference that is observed in wrestlers. Methods: HRA of dominant and non-dominant shoulders (DSHRA and NDSHRA, respectively) were measured using ultrasonography in a group of 30 wrestlers who started wrestling before the age of 13 years (Group 1), a group of 30 young adults, aged between 16–20 years, who were not actively engaged in any branch of overhead sports (Group 2) and a group of children aged between 11–13 years and not actively engaged in any branch of overhead sports (Group 3). Range of motion (ROM) degrees of dominant and non-dominant shoulders in all groups were compared within each group and between the groups. Results: DSHRA (mean: 88.73°, 88.93° and 89.40°) values were significantly higher than NDSHRA (mean: 81.13°, 81.83° and 84.37°) values (p < 0.001, p < 0.001 and p < 0,05) in Groups I, II and III, respectively. Internal rotation and total ROM degrees of the dominant shoulder in Group 1 and 3 were higher than those in Group 2. Conclusion: There is no significant change in terms of HRA in people aged between 11–13 and 16–20 years because of natural development or wrestling. DSHRA values are higher than NDSHRA ones. In contrast to the shoulders of throwers, the shoulders of wrestlers are characterized by an increase in internal rotation, described as “Wrestler’s shoulder.” Level of Evidence: Level III.

Abstract (sommario):
A novel measurement concept specifically tuned to monitoring tropospheric water vapour’s vertical distribution has been demonstrated on a theoretical basis and is currently under development for space deployment. The NDSA (Normalised Differential Spectral Attenuation) technique derives the integrated water vapour (IWV) along the radio link between a transmitter and a receiver carried by two LEO satellites, using the linear correlation between the IWV and a parameter called spectral sensitivity. This is the normalised incremental ratio of the spectral attenuation at two frequencies in the Ku and K bands, with the slope of the water vapour absorption line at 22.235 GHz. Vertical profiles of WV can be retrieved by inverting a set of IWV measurements acquired in limb geometry at different tangent altitudes. This paper provides a comprehensive insight into the NDSA approach for sounding lower tropospheric WV, from the theoretical investigations in previous ESA studies, to the first experimental developments and testing, and to the latest advancements achieved with the SATCROSS project of the Italian Space Agency. The focus is on the new results from SATCROSS activities; primarily, on the upgrading of the instrument prototype, with improved performance in terms of its power stability and the time resolution of the measurements. Special emphasis is also placed on discussing tomographic inversion methods capable of retrieving tropospheric WV content from IWV measurements, i.e., the least squares and the external reconstruction approaches, showing results with different spatial features when applied to a given atmospheric scenario. The ultimate goal of deploying the NDSA measurement technique from space is thoroughly examined and conclusions are drawn after presenting the results of an Observing System Simulation Experiment conducted to assess the impact of NDSA data assimilation on environmental model simulations.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe manuscript presents results from a collaborative study by 15 different laboratories using two different methods to determine tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) in tobacco and was performed under the auspices of the Tobacco Science Research Conference Analytical Methods Committee (TSRC-AMC). Although it is apparent that some of the laboratories failed to follow the provided protocols, both methods proved robust for determining TSNAs in a variety of different tobacco types. Twelve laboratories extracted the tobacco sample using an alkaline-methylene chloride extraction (Method 1) and nine used a buffer to extract the tobacco sample (Method 2). Six laboratories performed both methods. All participants used gas chromatography (GC) to separate the TSNAs and chemiluminescence detection. Method 1 used N-hexyl-N-nitroso-1-hexanamine (NDHA) as a surrogate (added prior to extraction) internal standard for quantitation. Method 2 used N-nitrosoguvacoline (NG) as the surrogate internal standard, NDHA as a chromatographic (added after extraction, prior to analysis) internal standard and external standard quantitation. After demonstrating that the average accuracy of both methods was at least about 92% through recovery studies, eight different tobacco types were analyzed in triplicate by each method. Means, reproducibility (precision between laboratories) and repeatability (precision within a laboratory) of results were determined for each method. After statistical analyses, it was established that both methods were capable of analyzing a variety of tobacco types and repeatability between methods was not significantly different. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) were lower for Method 2 as compared to Method 1 when using the surrogate internal standard. Reproducibility variation, analyzed as the coefficient of variation, was 6% lower for Method 2 vs. Method 1 for N-nitrosonornicotine (NNN) and directionally 12% lower for 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK). Method 2 using NDHA as the chromatographic internal standard has been recommended by the TSRC-AMC for use as a reference method. However, Method 1 using NDHA as surrogate internal standard is favored by four of the study participants because of lower chemical and material costs and higher sample throughput.

Abstract (sommario):
Buckwheat is an important functional food material with high nutritional value. However, it is still a difficult task for the taxonomy studies of wild buckwheat that are only based on morphology. In order to demonstrate the most efficient DNA barcode in the phylogenetic research of buckwheat, promote the investigation of wild buckwheat, and also reveal the phylogenetic relationship between Fagopyrum species, psbE-psbL and ndhA intron were validated here, which previously have been proved to be promising DNA barcode candidates for phylogenetic studies in genera Fagopyrum. Meanwhile, ndhA intron + psbE-psbL and matK + psbE-psbL could distinguish the relationship between species clearly. Combining the results of morphology and molecular markers, we suggested the buckwheat species should be divided into two subgroups, one subgroup consisted of F. tataricum, F. esculentum, F. cymosum and its related wild species, and the other subgroup included other wild buckwheat species. Our results could fulfill molecular markers of taxonomy research in genera Fagopyrum, promote wild buckwheat species identification, and assist in the use of wild buckwheat resources in the future. Additionally, the phylogenetic relationship revealed here could provide valuable information for molecular breeding of buckwheat and provide reference for inter-species hybridization.

Abstract (sommario):
Complete chloroplast genome sequences of 89 Brassicaceous species (42 genera) were used for identification and assessment of potential DNA barcodes at genus and species levels. Sliding windows analysis was performed on the aligned file to identify hyper-variable regions based on nucleotide diversity(π). Out of 23 identified hyper-variable regions, 3 coding regions i.e. ycf1, ndhF and ndhA and 3 combinations of coding and non-coding regions i.e. ‘ndhH-rps15, rps15, rps15-ycf1, ycf1’; ‘ccsA/ycf5, ccsA/ ycf5-ndhD, ndhD’ and ‘ndhE-ndhG, ndhG, ndhG-ndhI, ndhI’ were selected for sequence enrichment and assessed using six supervised machine learning algorithms i.e. J48, Jrip, SMO, Naive Bayes, Random Forest and KNN using WEKA along with distance based method using ‘nearneighbour’ function in SPIDER. It was observed that ycf1 was the most efficient region for discriminating Brassicaceous species with average identification rate of 76% and maximum identification rate of 86% at species level. The other three regions i.e. ndhA, ‘ndhH-rps15,rps15,rps15-ycf1,ycf1’ and ‘ccsA/ycf5,ccsA/ycf5-ndhD,ndhD’ were found to be more efficient than well established markers i.e. matK and rbcL and hence can be used as potential DNA barcodes for family Brassicaceae. Supervised machine learning algorithms i.e. SMO, Random Forest and KNN along with distance based method SPIDER(NN) were shown to be more efficient and stable as compared to Jrip, J48 and Naive Bayes.

The International Journal Of Alcohol And Drug Research, 3(1), 17-24. doi:10.7895/ijadr.v3i1.108Aim: The aim of the current study is to examine, using cross-sectional data, the role of maternal age, period (year of pregnancy) and cohort (year of birth) as predictors of alcohol consumption during pregnancy over a 10-year period.Design: Four cross-sectional surveys were examined, both separately and together.Setting: Using cross-sectional data, there does appear to be a positive relationship between maternal age and alcohol consumption during pregnancy; however, within any one survey period, it is difficult to determine if these patterns are due to period or cohort effects.Participants: The National Drug Strategy Household Survey (NDSHS) is a large-scale survey administered to more than 20,000 respondents. Across four survey periods, 3,281 women reported being pregnant in the 12 months prior to the survey.Measures: The section on pregnancy and alcohol in the NDSHS 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2010.Findings: Age was a significant positive predictor of alcohol consumption during pregnancy in 2010. However, when the four data sets were combined, period appeared to be a stronger predictor, with younger groups and cohorts decreasing consumption at a faster rate over time than older groups and cohorts. Conclusions: Although age and cohort do play a role in the likelihood of alcohol consumption among Australian women during pregnancy, period is the most important predictor, indicating that alcohol consumption among pregnant women is decreasing. Furthermore, knowledge of pregnancy results in a marked decrease in consumption, suggesting a possible focus for prevention campaigns.

Abstract (sommario):
We investigate several types of graduated frequency (GF) instruments for monitoring drinking patterns. Two studies with 12-month GF measures and daily data were used: (i) the Australian 2004 National Drug Strategy Household Survey (NDSHS) (n = 24,109 aged 12+; 22,546 with GF and over 8000 with yesterday data) and (ii) a US methodological study involving a 28-day daily diary plus GF summary measures drawn from the National Alcohol Survey (NAS) (n = 3,025 screened, 119 eligible study completers). The NDSHS involved (i) “drop and collect” self-completed forms with random sampling methods; the Measurement study (ii) screened 3+ drinkers by telephone and collected 28-day drinking diaries and pre- and post-diary 28-day GFs. We compared mean values for the GF quantity ranges from yesterday's drinks (study i) and 28-day diaries (study ii), also examining volume influence. Using “yesterday's” drinking, Australian results showed GF quantity range means close to arithmetic midpoints and volume effects only for the lowest two levels (1–2, and 3–4 drinks; p < .001). U.S. calibration results on the GF using 28-day diaries were similar, with a volume effect only at these low quantity levels (p < .001). Means for the highest quantity thresholds were 23.5 drinks for the 20+ (10 gram) drink level (Australia) and 15.5 drinks for the 12+ (14 g) drink level (US). In the US study, summary GF frequency and volume were highly consistent with diary-based counterparts. A conclusion is that algorithms for computing volume may be refined using validation data. We suggest measurement methods may be improved by taking better account of empirical drink ethanol content.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACTNicotine, a major toxic alkaloid in tobacco wastes, is degraded by bacteria, mainly via pyridine and pyrrolidine pathways. Previously, we discovered a new hybrid of the pyridine and pyrrolidine pathways inAgrobacterium tumefaciensS33 and characterized its key enzyme 6-hydroxy-3-succinoylpyridine (HSP) hydroxylase. Here, we purified the nicotine dehydrogenase initializing the nicotine degradation from the strain and found that it forms a complex with a novel 6-hydroxypseudooxynicotine oxidase. The purified complex is composed of three different subunits encoded byndhABandpno, wherendhAandndhBoverlap by 4 bp and are ∼26 kb away frompno. As predicted from the gene sequences and from chemical analyses, NdhA (82.4 kDa) and NdhB (17.1 kDa) harbor a molybdopterin cofactor and two [2Fe-2S] clusters, respectively, whereas Pno (73.3 kDa) harbors an flavin mononucleotide and a [4Fe-4S] cluster. Mutants with disruptedndhAorndhBgenes did not grow on nicotine but grew well on 6-hydroxynicotine and HSP, whereas thepnomutant did not grow on nicotine or 6-hydroxynicotine but grew well on HSP, indicating that NdhA and NdhB are responsible for initialization of nicotine oxidation. We successfully expressedpnoinEscherichia coliand found that the recombinant Pno presented 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol reduction activity when it was coupled with 6-hydroxynicotine oxidation. The determination of reaction products catalyzed by the purified enzymes or mutants indicated that NdhAB catalyzed nicotine oxidation to 6-hydroxynicotine, whereas Pno oxidized 6-hydroxypseudooxynicotine to 6-hydroxy-3-succinoylsemialdehyde pyridine. These results provide new insights into this novel hybrid pathway of nicotine degradation inA. tumefaciensS33.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – This paper aims to propose a numerical definition-based systematic design approach (NDSDA) to generate an explicit numerical definition of the product form profile and to establish the correlation between the product form features and the corresponding consumers’ image perceptions. Design/methodology/approach – To illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method, this study considers the design of a two-dimensional automobile profile for illustration purposes and commences by developing a detailed numerical definition of an automobile profile using Bézier curves. A series of automobile image evaluations are conducted to examine the relationship between the characteristics of an automobile profile and its associated consumer image perception. Finally, the evaluation results are analyzed statistically, and the statistical results are used to construct mathematical models formalizing the correlations between the automobile profile design variables and the consumers’ perceptions of the product image. Findings – The results of the evaluation trials are used to construct mathematical models capable of predicting the likely consumer response to any automobile profile designed in accordance with the numerical definition. Furthermore, the evaluation data enable the critical design variables and form features to be determined such that the efficacy of the design process in creating automobiles which better meet the consumers’ image aspirations can be improved. Originality/value – The major contribution of the NDSDA methodology presented in this study is the ability it gives to designers to specify the product form in a detailed yet highly efficient manner. Furthermore, the numerical definition of the product form not only provides a suitable basis for identifying the critical design variables and form features of the product but also provides an understanding of how these variables should be manipulated to obtain or reinforce the desired product image.

Abstract (sommario):
To investigate the evolutionary relationships among species of the tribe Triraphideae (including two monotypic genera, Habrochloa and Nematopoa), we generated a phylogeny based on DNA sequences from nuclear ribosomal (ITS) and four plastid markers (rps16-trnK, rps16 intron, rpl32-trnL, and ndhA intron). Habrochloa and Nematopoa form a clade that is sister to Neyraudia and Triraphis. Member of the Triraphideae have paniculate inflorescences, 3-veined, marginally ciliate lemmas, usually with hairy lateral veins, that are apically bifid and awned from between a sinus. A description of the Triraphideae and key to the genera is provided, and the biogeography is discussed, likely originating in Africa.
