Abstract (sommario):
Happiness is everyone’s goal of all ages, occupations, and social statuses. Because it is a subjective concept, happiness depends on different standards and factors from each individual. Externally, happiness includes property, social life, age, health, education, and religion. While internally, happiness includes positive emotions, and a person's perspective to see their past, present, and future. People strive to gain power, wealth, and life partners to achieve happiness. Nevertheless, there is a group of individuals, namely the Catholic nuns, who actually fight for their happiness without being tied to wealth, life partners, and social status. The main purpose of this research is to find out the description of happiness in the life of nuns, and how the nuns can achieve this happiness. The participants in this study were three nuns, each representing a monastic age: junior, medior, and senior. Data was collected using a semi-structured interview method, with a natural setting. Observations were conducted in a participatory manner by researchers. The research questions posed were: first, what was the source of happiness for nuns; second, how did the nuns achieve happiness; third, what was the meaning of happiness for nuns. The results of this study showed that the source of the happiness of nuns was the experience of being loved by God and inner depths. Nuns achieve happiness by reflecting on daily experiences, spiritual practice, and developing gratitude. The meaning of happiness for nuns is a close relationship with God and service to others. This paper also puts forward constructive suggestions for nun’s formation or education. So, the novice formandi can balance the spiritual and human aspects.

Abstract (sommario):
This article centers on the relationship of rules (nīti) to the monastic form of life of contemporary Buddhist nuns in Sri Lanka. A genealogy of scholarship focusing on the rules of Buddhist monks and nuns led scholars to affirm a clear-cut distinction between nuns who have the higher ordination (bhikkhunῑs) and those who do not have it. However, that distinction is not self-evident, because bhikkhunῑs and other nuns lead lives that do not foreground a juridical notion of rules. The lives of nuns focus on disciplinary practices of self-restraint within a tradition of debate about their recent higher ordinations. Whether or not they are bhikkhunῑs, nuns today refer to rules in ways that are different from that which dominant Vinaya scholarship assumes. This article proposes that it is misleading to differentiate Buddhist nuns based on an enumeration of their rules and argues that nuns’ attitudes to rules say more about attempts to authorize claims to power in current debates about their ordination than about their disciplinary practice as a communal form of life.

Abstract (sommario):
This article reveals the life of the Holy Trinity Bernardine nuns in Kaunas (Kowno) in the years 1842 to 1864, the worsening situation at the convent due to the Russian occupying government’s policy, the actual closure of the convent, and the fate of the nuns after the closure of their home. The study aims to show how daily life at the convent affected the Russian administration’s decisions regarding its material provision and particular nuns living there, how they were affected by the closure of St George’s Bernardine Friary in Kaunas which used to be the main supporter of the Bernardine nuns, and relations between the Bernardine nuns and the bishop. The author analyses difficulties in community life and problems adhering to the constitution, and reveals the general mood of the nuns. The research is based on correspondence between the Bernardine nuns, the bishop and the convent visitator, memoirs, and material from visitations. This case study of the Kaunas Bernardine nuns helps us gain a better understanding of the situation of the Catholic Church in the Russian Empire.

Abstract (sommario):
The outline of the history of St Michael the Archangel’s Monastery of Dominican nuns in Kamianets Podilskyi (1708–1866) The Dominican monastery in Kamianets Podilskyi was the last pre-partition foundation on Polish land established by the nuns of the Order of Preachers. Józef Mocarski, provincial prior of the Dominican Ruthenian province, in 1708 founded the monastery for the nuns of his order in the recently recovered from the Turks (on the strength of the Treaty of Karlowitz) Kamianets Podilskyi. It was the easternmost Catholic monastery. It included nuns only of noble Polish origin; they were daughters of Podolia noblemen. In 1721 the process of setting up the monastery was completed and it was also then that a small convent church was consecrated, whose patron became St Michael the Archangel (patron of Ruthenia and the Dominican Ruthenian province). The Dominican nuns from Kamianets led contemplative life in strict enclosure. The monastery did well until the decline of the Commonwealth of Poland. In 1787 the monastery was threatened with closing as part of the plans to modernize the Kamianets fortress, which was to be strengthened with the buildings of city convents. Eventually, the nuns were not displaced, as the reorganization plans were not carried out. In 1793 Kamianets Podilskyi was taken over by Russians and the partition period started. Although the monastery was wealthy, the Dominican nuns started to struggle with various problems. A crisis of vocations appeared, which in 1822 was overcome through bringing three nuns from the monastery in Novogrudok, but in 1833 the situation repeated itself. However, a monastery school was set up, which gave the nuns some financial support. In 1839 the last vestition of two nuns took place, and in 1842 on the strength of a tsar’s decree the novitiate was closed, which was an indication of the monastery’s near demise. The monastery obtained a long-range status and existed until the closure of the Kamianets diocese in 1866. Then eight Dominican nuns were sent to the Carmelite nuns of old observance in Dubno, where there was a long-range monastery. That status was lost in 1890 and then the nuns residing there were relocated to the Benedictine nuns monastery in Sandomierz. It was then that three years later the last Dominican nun from Kamianets, Joanna Austutowiczówna, died, closing the history of her convent.

Abstract (sommario):
In this article, with the aim of better understanding the development of Vietnamese Buddhist nuns, the period of the Buddhist revival movement is investigated. This event is considered a turning point for Vietnamese Buddhism. In addition, it will help to shed light on the status of Vietnamese nuns. In this article—which is mainly based on archival documents kept in the National Overseas Archives (the French colonial archives held at the Archives Nationales d’Outre-Mer) and the National Archives Center I, Buddhism periodicals, and memoirs—the status of Vietnamese women during the French colonial period is clarified, as well as the positive effects of the colonial regime in regard to the change in women’s perceptions. Then, the differences in the nuns’ situation in three regions are analyzed. Finally, an exploration is conducted into the rise of nuns during the revival movement and the emergence of reformist nuns. Indeed, it is reformist nuns that have shaped the image of modern Vietnamese nuns. Moreover, they also created a direction by which the following generations could continue along, as well as playing an important role in the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

Abstract (sommario):
The Hospitallers of St. John and the female orders in Silesia in the Middle Ages The networks of the houses of the Hospitallers and of the female monastic orders in Silesia were similar (about 14 houses of the Hospitallers and 13 monasteries of nuns). There were many differences between these groups of clergy, too. The monasteries of nuns belong to various orders (e.g., Benedictines, Cistercian Nuns, Poor Clares, Dominican sisters, Sisters of St. Mary Magdalene, and the Canons of St. Augustine). Moreover, some houses of Beguines were active in medieval Silesia, too. The number of nuns is estimated to have been about 600, as opposed to the number of Hospitallers, which is estimated to have been about 200. The nuns were enclosed, while the Hospitallers were active in the pastoral care. The relations betwee both groups were not very intense. The priests from the Order of St. John were the chaplains and confessors of the nuns, or they coudl serve as the protectors of the property of the female monesteries (e.g., the Benedictines in Strzegom and the Beguines in Głubczyce). The Hospitallers, in return, asked the nuns for intercessory prayers in the time of the crisises, especially on the Isle of Rhodes. They also had contacts with the individual nuns, who were in some cases their relatives or neighbors. These relations were a sign of the absorption the Order of St. John by the local society.

Van, Hyning Victoria. "Cloistered voices : English nuns in exile, 1550-1800." Thesis, University of Sheffield, 2014. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/6308/.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This thesis uproots the long-standing assumption that English Catholic nuns living in exile between 1550 and 1800 produced little or no literature, or at least none worth reading. All twenty-four English exilic convents enabled literary production by nuns and their confessors. This work focuses on St Monica's, founded in Louvain in 1609, and the English Convent of Nazareth, founded by St Monica's nuns in Bruges in 1629: both houses produced a vibrant body of literature that is exceptional as well as indicative of broader English convent culture. This thesis extends the bounds of what has been written about convent literature by examining the ways in which nuns used and subverted chronicle, epistolary and autobiographical genres to achieve complex self-expression. It makes extensive use of archival material and offers new and original contributions to the field of early modern literature by identifying hitherto anonymous writers and exploring the significance of little-known convent texts; analyzing self-writing, chorography and biography by anonymous authors (Chapters 1 and 2); reappraising the epistolary discourse of a relatively well known author-nun (Chapter 3); exploring the Augustinian self-fashioning of a Catholic convert (Chapter 4), and finally, by demonstrating how a nun could use chronicles, letters and governance manuals as tools for reform and to accrete and solidify her own power (Chapter 5). Taken together, the authors and texts examined here open a window onto the richness of convent authorship at St Monica's and Nazareth and suggest ways in which literature from other monastic communities might be approached. Questions posed by Fran Dolan (2003) and Sylvia Evangelisti (2007) in their work on early modern Catholic women writers and nuns have served as a useful starting point: why (to paraphrase) did these women write in the ways they did?

Henley, Carmen Ortiz. "The Women of Little Gidding: The First Anglican Nuns." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/223380.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This dissertation examines the lives and material production of the early modern women known as the Nuns of Little Gidding, Mary Collett Ferrar (1603-1680) and Anna Collett (1605-1639). The religious community at Little Gidding, Huntingsonshire (now Cambridgeshire), founded in 1626 by Mary Woodnoth Ferrar and her son Nicholas, housed forty-some members of the extended Ferrar, Collet, and Mapletoft family and their retainers. They devoted their lives to prayer, Bible study and memorization, contemplation, acts of charity, and the production of several unique Bible concordances or harmonies (as well as some Bible histories) of which fifteen are extant. Women were central to the spiritual life of the community, in particular, Mary and Anna who took vows of chastity. They were also the primary creators of the concordances, a task that entailed cutting up printed Bibles, reorganizing the text according to a complex scheme devised by Nicholas Ferrar. The resulting harmonized Gospel suppressed the discrepancies and differences in the four canonical accounts and produced a single, seamless narrative that preserved every detail of the originals. Close study of the relationship between image and text in the Gospel harmonies shows that the women sometimes chose particular images not to illustrate but rather to undermine the authority of the biblical narrative. Images might restore women to an account that minimizes, trivializes, or elides their importance in the life of Jesus. Thus, while their explicit task was to harmonize the Gospel accounts, the women were surreptitiously "deconstructing" them to reveal their discord.

Dillinger, Kathryn. "Protestant Nuns as Depictions of Piety in Lutheran Funeral Sermons." TopSCHOLAR®, 2011. http://digitalcommons.wku.edu/theses/1130.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Protestant nuns, Stiftsdamen, fulfilled a unique role in early modern Lutheran society. This papers focuses on the implied social roles and expected virtues of Protestant nuns [Stiftsdamen] in the works of male Lutheran pastors who supported Protestant theological positions that promoted marriage as the proper place for women, and yet who also praised unmarried female monastics in funeral sermons [Leichenpredigten]. Lutheran pastors wrote funeral sermons for both Stiftsdamen and married women, funeral sermons display similarities or differences between what virtues, characteristics, and displays of piety for women. A comparison will also be made between funeral sermons for Stiftsdamen and those written for Catholic nuns by Catholic clergy. Convent necrologies, written by Catholic abbesses will also be used to compare what virtues were expected of female religious. Also included is an examination of nuns’ writings about theology, their doctrinal reasons for remaining Catholic, leaving the cloister, and adapting their convent life to fit Lutheran teachings. Damenstiften preserved access for women to positions of authority and self empowerment. These women were, however, different from earlier female religious communities and from Catholic nuns living in other Lutheran areas. Protestant Stiftsdamen had more contact with outside society than cloistered Catholic nuns due to the desire of Lutherans to incorporate these women into their communities. An analysis of the perception of Stiftsdamen by Lutheran pastors and the nuns' consciousness of their own position, duties, and piety is the cornerstone of this new research on gender and religion in early modern Germany. The perpetuation of Protestant convents into the seventeenth century is only briefly documented by historians who focus instead on the religious experience of women in Germany during and directly following the Reformation. Catholic examples of female piety will contribute to the understanding of female religious and their role in society at large. In conclusion, this research displays how Stiftsdamen were praised for the same virtues as early modern married Protestant women and Catholic nuns in funeral sermons, but were not specifically praised as female religious by male Lutheran pastors.

Owens, Sarah Elizabeth. "Subversive obedience: Confessional letters by eighteenth century Mexican colonial nuns." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/284123.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Eighteenth century colonial Mexico hosted a wide number of religious women who put quill to parchment and wrote spiritual letters to their confessors. These texts display impressive subversive rhetorical strategies, five of which are the focal point of this dissertation. The three nuns studied in this dissertation are Sor Maria Coleta de San Jose (?-1775), Sor Sebastiana de la Santisima Trinidad (1709-1757) and Sor Maria Anna de San Ignacio (1695-1756). Chapter one examines the spiritual and literary European foremothers of eighteenth century colonial religious women. This chapter examines the life and letters of Radegund (518-587), Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179), Catherine of Siena (1347?-1380), and Saint Teresa of Avila (1515-1582). Their writings all demonstrate early signs of subversive rhetoric that can be detected centuries later in the nuns' letters examined in this study. The second chapter is divided into two sections. The first part provides an overview of colonial Mexico with a particular emphasis on Mexican nuns and their letters. The second half of the chapter carves out a viable discursive space for nuns' spiritual letters. This section revises and reinterprets the colonial literary canon from a variety of theoretical perspectives including feminist theory and cultural studies. The last three chapters are each dedicated to one of the three Mexican nuns mentioned above. Their letters are analyzed according to the following rhetorical strategies: (1) the rhetoric of humility, (2) the description of penance, (3) the description of fasting, (4) the retelling of visions with Christ, and (5) the retelling of visions with Saint Teresa or the Virgin Mary. In conclusion, due to their precarious situation as religious women under the ever vigilant eye of a patriarchal and misogynist society, these nuns opted to incorporate these strategies within their spiritual letters. Sor Coleta, Sor Sebastiana and Sor Maria Anna deliberately placed subversive rhetorical strategies within their letters in order to express otherwise controversial or questionable ideas.

Abstract (sommario):
This is an exegesis of the docudrama screenplay of The Last Foreign Nuns in China. It introduces the historical background of this screenplay, emphasises the significance of docudrama and analyses the pros and cons of film co-production. With the exception of the introduction and the conclusion, there are three parts to this exegesis. Part one, Chapter 2 focuses on the literature and history review. It examines the history and literature of the Catholic Church in China and the background of the incidents. It not only highlights the relationship between the Chinese government and foreign missionaries, but also provides a historical context in which to observe the development of attitudes towards foreign missionaries in China. Three historical moments have been included: missionaries and the new technology - the Golden Age of Christianity and the Chinese Rites Controversy; the Church’s development after the Opium Wars and ‘rice bowl’ Christians. These historical moments, as well as the historical figures, have been chosen carefully in order to summarise the positive and negative social impacts on various aspects of Chinese history. The screenplay gives the audience a brief but comprehensive understanding of the performance of the Catholic Church in ancient and contemporary history.<br>Thesis (PhD Doctorate)<br>Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)<br>School of Humanities<br>Arts, Education and Law<br>Full Text

Lee, Nicolette. "Tōkeiji's business : the agency of nuns in the early modern period." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/44899.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This thesis explores the agency of nuns at elite convents by focusing on how they successfully acted within the constraints of social regulations during the early modern period. I use agency as a tool to examine issues of representation and authority of the nuns in response to arguments that stress nuns are marginalized in the broader study of Japanese Buddhism. This thesis explores that the study of nuns is not about uncovering marginalized representations, but evaluating the agency and authority of nuns as relative to their contemporaries, such as other monks and public authorities. I primarily focus on Tōkeiji, the famous divorce temple (enkiridera 縁切寺), supplemented by examples from imperial convents (bikuni gosho 比丘尼御所) of the early modern period. Chapter 1 focuses on divorce as a pivotal issue to discuss agency, representation, and authority of the wife who requested divorce and of the abbess who guaranteed the divorce by temple code law. Chapter 2 reexamines the theoretical and actual the power relations within the personnel structure especially in regard to the temple hierarchy. Chapter 3 reviews the significant connection between financial management and influential familial patrons. Chapter 4 explores the multifaceted nature of the temple. I reach the conclusion that a different perspective on approaching the study of nuns at elite convents enables us to move away from the repetitive debate on whether nuns are considered independent. Instead, the approach to assess how the nuns used their resources in their network as ritual specialists, politicians, and businesspeople presents a comprehensive examination of an Edo period nun.

Abstract (sommario):
The opening story from the 15th-century nun’s diary about their enforced flight to Braunschweig illustrates the centrality of the concept of leading a cloistered life for medieval nuns. Contrasting the makeshift arrangements during their absence with the ideal layout of a prototypical female monastic community, the chapter explores the living spaces of medieval nuns which are designed to cater for their sacred and economic needs. The visual example to close the chapter is the monumental 14th-century map from the convent of Ebstorf, which includes representations of world history as well as the physical geography of Northern Germany.

Abstract (sommario):
The Lutheran Reformation of the 16th century in many ways follows on from previous monastic reform movements. A pertinent example is the discussion of indulgences which features also in the late 15th-century convent diary. The nun describes at length the events surrounding the visit by a papal legate in Braunschweig. The main part of the chapter details the ways in which the nuns during the Lutheran Reformation dealt with pressure to conform to the new regime and the ways in which the convents survived as Protestant institutions. This is visualized by the 17th-century panel painting (used also for the title image) which shows the vision of the nuns in Kloster Lüne of the crucified Christ advising them to become Protestant.

Abstract (sommario):
Chapter 6 begins with the life story of a village-based nun to demonstrate how a woman’s path to religious attainment can be strewn with obstacles rooted in gender roles and ideologies. The chapter then explores the motives parents have for making their daughters nuns, the advantages young women perceive in pursuing a religious vocation, and gendered notions of virtue that affect life opportunities for nuns. The main theme of the chapter centers on how the modernizing of Buddhist institutions and educational migration are transforming the nun’s role from a servant in her parents’ village household to a disciple of the Buddha’s teachings who resides in an urban institution.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Offshore and onshore from oil platforms to the San Francisco Bay Bridge the unique system of an amorphous polyolefin coating compound, commonly referred to as Viscous Elastic coatings, in conjunction with polyethylene bolt caps have been used to mitigate moisture penetration, prevent corrosion and extend service life of nuts, bolts, support rods &amp; fasteners. This system is simple to install, requires minimal surface preparations and easy to remove if access is desired. The presentation will discuss the challenges, overall objective and unique characteristics of the viscous-elastic semi-solid compound and bolt cap protection system. Testing, installation procedures and previous projects will be covered. One of the projects to be covered is the system used to protect the support rods of the recently constructed San Francisco Bay Bridge connecting Oakland to San Francisco. The bridge made the news prior to opening when it was determined that a portion of the support rods were experiencing fatigue and showing signs of premature failure.

Abstract (sommario):
Climate change is leading to severe heat waves in India, affecting a large vulnerable population and impacting their health and well-being. The recent adaptive thermal comfort research for Indian climates suggested that the people living in residential buildings can adapt to indoor temperatures upto 35 ℃. The Jain ascetics in India have been leading their life without the use of electricity for hundreds of years, irrespective of the temperatures. In this study, thermal comfort surveys with 20 monks and nuns were carried out during summer for the composite climate of Delhi. 90% of the subjects expressed acceptability of the thermal conditions while the indoor operative temperatures varied between 35 ℃ and 40 ℃. This study should offer hope to people globally that if we can gradually adapt to the rising temperatures, we may be able to move on with our lives without affecting our comfort or health.

Burtseva, Evgeniia A. "JOHANNES BRUGMAN’S STYLE AND LEXICOSTATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF A COLLECTION OF SERMONS FROM SAINT AGNES CONVENT IN MAASEIK." In Second Scientific readings in memory of Professor V. P. Berkov. St. Petersburg State University, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.21638/11701/9785288063567.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This article is devoted to a stylometric study of Johannes Brugman’s sermons collected in the manuscript Gent UB hs. 1301, created and used by the nuns of the convent of Saint Agnes in Maaseik. The study was an attempt to refute the claim that the 10 most closely related texts of Brugman’s oeuvre would show common patterns that can be detected by lexico-statistical methods. The method of research is the analysis of the most frequent function words in the texts. The analysis of the ten most frequent words leads to the conclusion that nine out of ten sermons demonstrate patterns in the use of conjunctions: ende ‘and’ is the most frequent lemma, followed by die and dat, which can mean ‘which, this, these, that, those’. The probability of a deviation (shifting one of the elements further than third place in the ranking or ende not in the first place) increases in inverse proportion to the volume of the sermon text. The discovery of patterns in the use of service words suggests that the study has failed to refute the assumption that individual stylistic features of Brugman’s sermons can be detected.

Abstract (sommario):
There are 164 survived manuscripts of the masterpiece of the Georgian and world literary heritage The Man in the Panther Skin by Shota Rustaveli (12th century), rewritten in the 17th century and after. The oldest record belongs to the edge of the 16th-17th centuries and the oldest manuscript dates back to 1646. Before the appearance of the 1st printed version, that is, until 1712, the epic reached in one editorial version, which is clearly not from Rustveli’s hands. All manuscripts containing this edition are preceded by the pseudo-Rustavelian introductory stanza that presents the poem as a secular work differing from the church ideology and writings; which teaches and advises the reader to distance themselves from the secular ideology of Persian origin represented in the epic, and says that monks and nuns are forbidden to pay attention to this ideology, so they mustn't read this text. It is interesting, that only those manuscripts of the epic have survived, which represented this one and only redaction where the text was preceded by a pseudo-Rustavelian stanza. The detailed information on the manuscripts of The Man in the Panther Skin and the reality which made the pseudo-Rustavelian stanza to be useful in survival of “The Man in the Panther Skin” will be discussed in the current paper.

Danqi, Lu. "History, Sociocultural Implications and Archetypal Characters of “Three Gu Six Po” in Traditional Chinese Novels." In XII Congress of the ICLA. Georgian Comparative Literature Association, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.62119/icla.1.8208.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Grannies with folk careers, literally translated into “Three Gu Six Po” in Chinese, are ubiquitous in traditional Chinese novels and colloquial stories. They may be nuns, midwives, or matchmakers from a relatively unprivileged status, seeking any temporary work opportunity and providing various services in and out of house-holds. The interesting dynamic between these characters taking on deeply nuanced positions in Chinese sociocultural traditions while also adhering to archetypal roles provides begs two assertions: Firstly, we can learn about the career norms, social status and life patterns of these “Three Gu Six Po” during the Ming and Qing dynasties by delving into the stories and related reviews in histo-rical accounts. Noticeably, their roles can be simultaneously power-ful due to their social roles within the domestic politics sphere while marginalised and diminished because they are women and of a less respectable working class. And the development of social stereotypes and contemptuous attitudes towards “Three Gu Six Po” can be explored by studying these texts. Under the unnoticeable biased narratives of the elite literati during that period, this group of characters in literary works does not have a complete or identifying name and usually takes on relatively flat and templated personali-ties, with fixed impressions such as eloquence, greed, and lewdness, which suggests a concentration on the issues of gender and class inequalities in that period. Secondly, as a representative member of “Three Gu Six Po”, “Granny Wang” has gradually become a typecast nameless character and is continuously being rewritten. Based on the basic profile of “Three Gu Six Po”, some writers have occasionally given the cha-racter more detailed and vivid portrayals, and in some cases have developed her into a round character with own agency who was aware of her domestic power and made use of it. The logic behind the empowerment of “Granny Wang” through service can be traced back to Chinese philosophy, which makes the character archetype very different from servants or witches in Western countries.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This edition features thirteen villancicos transcribed from the Sánchez Garza Collection held in Mexico City’s Centro Nacional de Investigación, Documentación e Información Musical Carlos Chávez (CENIDIM). Their publication provides ensembles music for performance that was originally notated for and performed by women, in this case the nuns of Puebla’s Santísima Trinidad convent. This convent was founded in the seventeenth century in colonial Mexico (New Spain) and left behind the largest collection of women’s notated music from New Spain. The novel organization of this edition, featuring villancicos for various Marian feasts, highlights the Virgin Mary’s life as an exciting narrative possibility for contemporary ensembles. In addition, because seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music from the Ibero-American world remains marginalized in US American early music performance circles, this edition heeds the global turn in music history deliberately to consider the musical legacies of the European imperial endeavor outside of Europe.

Abstract (sommario):
The topic of this research report is an important one in the context of Asia’s rapid economic development in recent years, and the need to rethink development policy and especially methodologies of development communications, so the mistakes of the past will not be replicated. Thus, the study is an important initiative at this period of time. The research takes as a case study the Buddhism for Development Project (BDP) implemented at Ban Bungsanthueng village in the Khammouane Province by its Buddhist Volunteer Spirit for Community network (BVSC network). The fieldwork took place at the BDP’s training centre in Vientiane and the Buddhist initiatives at Ban Bungsanthueng. The research demonstrates how the BDP and its network apply participatory approaches through interpersonal communication, such as sermon delivery, Dhamma (Buddhist teachings) talk, and daily interaction with villagers and project members.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The nun moth (Lymantria monacha) is a significant pest of conifer trees, particularly pine and spruce, across its native range from Western Europe to the Russian Far East and China. It experiences periodic outbreaks and overwinters in the egg stage. Although it is not yet invasive outside its native range, it has not been the target of classical biological control. The most promising natural enemies for potential control include the tachinid fly Parasetigena sylvestris, which is specific to Lymantria spp. and a key parasitoid of the gypsy moth in North America, and the nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV), which is specific to the nun moth and has been developed as a biopesticide. Other potential biological control agents include the braconid Cotesia melanoscela and the ichneumonids Casinaria scutelllaris and Elachertus charondas, although their specificity and effectiveness need further investigation. In the Russian Far East, the parasitoids Parasetigena sylvestris and Blepharipa schineri are noted, with the latter requiring further study due to possible specificity differences.
