Abstract (sommario):
The most common symptom of residual ovarian syndrome (ROS) is chronic pelvic pain. Extensive pelvic adhesions are the typical operative findings, while follicular cysts and corpus luteum hematoma were the common pathological findings of the residual ovaries. However, malignant changes are also recorded. In this case report the ROS was associated with cystic changes in size with extensive adhesion with peitoneuum, omentum and right ureter drawn and impacted within the cyst wall. Opinion of ovarian preservation during hysterectomy for benign indications and the sequelae should be discussed with

Abstract (sommario):
For the purpose of determining factors associated with ovulation induction in rabbits, there is a need to examine the ovaries in a serial fashion. To this end, a study was designed to develop an approach that would permit serial evaluation of ovarian structures in vivo using ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) while preserving ovarian function in rabbits. The use of UBM has enabled characterisation of ovarian dynamics in live mice and has recently been validated for assessing structures in excised rabbit ovaries (Cervantes et al. 2011 Reprod. Fertil. Invasive methods (e.g. histology) limit serial assessment of ovarian structures in rabbits and impede progress in our understanding of factors responsible for inducing ovulation. Serial transrectal or transvaginal ultrasonography of ovarian structures has revolutionized our understanding of reproductive patterns in domestic animals, but the approach is limited in smaller species by the small physical size of the animal and the ovary. The advent of high-resolution ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), however, has permitted recent characterisation of ovarian dynamics in species as small as mice. As p

SummaryOvulation is considered an inflammatory, cytokine-mediated event. Cytokines, which are recognized as growth factors with immunoregulatory properties, are involved in many cellular processes at the ovarian level. In this sense, cytokines affect fertility and are involved in the development of different ovarian disorders such as bovine cystic ovarian disease (COD). Because it has been previously demonstrated that ovarian cells represent both sources and targets of cytokines, the aim of this study was to examine the expression of several cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-1RA, IL-1RI, IL-1RII,

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal of all gynecological cancers. Current ovarian cancer drug regimens, including taxanes and platinum-based agents, are susceptible to chemoresistance necessitating the development of novel chemotherapeutics. In this dissertation we have found that in ovarian cancer cell lines (DOV-13, SKOV-3, CAOV-3, and OVCAR-3), dsRNA treatment alters cell survival. Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a naturally occurring bioactive lysophospholipid that mediates a broad range of cellular processes such as cell proliferation, survival, migration and invasion. LPA also plays a potential role in human oncogenesis as suggested by elevated expression of its receptors and its producing enzymes in malignant tissues. In the current study, we demonstrated that LPA is a potent mediator of interleukin-6 (IL-6) production in ovarian cancer. The present work aims at establishing the first bases for studying the insect oocyte polarity in a phylogenetically basal species, the cockroach Blattella germanica. Our approach was to choose some genes that have been described as key in the establishment of oocyte polarity in Drosophila melanogaster. Among them we studied, Capicua, a HMG box transcription factor repressor in B. germanica, which is required for the establishment of dorsal-ventral patterning of eggshell and embryo. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) that is also essential for the polarity establishment in the oocyte.
