Abstract (sommario):
The article combines a performance centered approach with sociolinguistic interests. Humorous narratives among friends are shown to contain many features of verbal art, such as, i.e., fictionality, dialogue dramatization, a focus on wording, and a complex management of points of view. Narratives from two social groups are presented in an exemplary way. Although these stories share many perfor-mance features, they also reveal subtle differences. In the "judo group", narratives are often constructed which consist largely of phantasies. The joint production of humorous phantasies centers around one person in the group who is thereby made the center of attention. The men in the judo group often invent teasing stories about the women participants, and thereby a gendered interaction order is established. In the "academic group"1, many stories are told in which the members of this group present themselves as progressive individuals confronted with a not-so-progressive "normal" world. New gender norms are often implicitly thematized in these stories and thereby help to negotiate a new social order between men and women.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
Many couples who come for therapy are struggling with separating from unconscious phantasies and beliefs that enmesh each partner with the other, resulting in states that popular songs powerfully epitomise. While this borderline experience is common and functional in the early stages of being in love its persistence paralyses the development of the relationship. Facing separation from and loss of illusion is a challenge couple therapists are often asked to help with. The argument is illustrated by a case, and by references to some of Cole Porter’s best known songs.

Abstract (sommario):
In Klein’s development of a clinical practice with children, she concentrated on the presence and content of anxiety in the little patient’s play. This led her away from a basic theory grounded in instincts and energy. As her method developed and her experience accumulated she emphasized the meanings of anxiety and in particular the forms it took in unconscious phantasy. Ultimately, she became aware of profound phantasies, and anxiety, in her patients about the formation and integrity of the ego, and not just the neurotic conflicts the ego struggles with – those anxieties about identity she called the deeper layers of the unconscious.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
: For those of us working in the fields of education and psychotherapy, the insistence that misogyny affects us all brings to the forefront the painful question of lifting negation in order to think of one’s own contribution to disclaimed bodily hatred. Thinking with the psychoanalytic temporality of before and after, misogyny is approached as a mental constellation of the mind’s attraction to the disavowal, objectification, and depersonalization of gender and sexual fluidity. I examine the psychical consequences of the emotional logic of insidious misogyny in practices of education and the clinic that resists working through their role in dissociated externalized mental states. My focus is on the generation and diffusion of psychical defences of ideality, splitting, denial, and disavowal of difference that compel phantasies of omnipotence and present as attacks on what comes before and after the human condition, namely: natality, bisexuality, dependency, vulnerability, and love for the maternal environment. Themes of feminism, psychoanalysis, and queer theory are offered as a counter-depressant.Keywords: thinking, deferred action, negation, ideality, symbolic collapse, reparation.

Abstract (sommario):
The article develops the analysis of recurrent kitschy motifs in poetry and prose by Justyna Bargielska. This authoress consciously and intensively takes advantage of pop-cultural kitsch, kitsch connected to maternity and femininity, sacrokitsch and consolatory kitsch used in mourning practices. She derives many fetishized objects from these areas and transforms them into private talismans; she also borrows many established pop-cultural visions that serve her heroines to create their identity, but sometimes these patterns become a costume for individual fears and phantasies. The term ‘kitschism’ was invented by Bargielska herself and it suggests intellectual distance towards the figures and requisites used. The writer’s attitude towards kitschy cliches is developed as a dialectical movement of attraction and repulsion, and is not meant to overthrow dominant stereotypes; this approach is often similar to camp strategies, yet it extends beyond ludic or ironic games. Bargielska is interested mainly in the anthropological aspect of kitsch, which is situated between the individual and the community. The writer tests the usefulness of cliches while confronting her heroines with the most serious subjects, like death, love or loss.

Abstract (sommario):
In China, the one-child policy has cemented the imbalance between male and female newborns, the social and psychological consequences of which are difficult to assess. The targeted abortion of female foetuses goes back to traditions anchored in Confucian culture. This article examines the tensions in gender relations and in the inner representation of gender that are linked to the practice of gender-specific abortion. Using examples from psychoanalytic self-experience groups, the article shows how such conflicts can break out and be expressed in the individual psyche, but also between the group participants. With the help of the distinction between an ethnic and an idiosyncratic unconscious, an attempt is made to better understand the specific inner representation of gender in men and women in China. The author explores male reaction formations against women, male fear of castration, and of control by women through men's mothers, as well as a kind of ongoing unconscious "duel between the sexes" that involves gender discrimination that continues to this day.

Abstract (sommario):
Tragedy in its classic form represents the ambiguity of human nature, and explores the tension between the hero's actions and his or her progressive acquisition of self-knowledge. This is where they learn who they really are and what their actions mean in relation to their identity. Similarly, as forensic psychotherapists, we are spectators of the tragic events that get told and re-enacted in the therapeutic process. However, we are also actors, in that we join our patients in the process of uncovering the meanings of their actions. Why did they act the way they did? Who were they trying to destroy? Or, were they actually trying to repair? In being at the crossroad between ethical and political, forensic institutions present many analogies with the Greek tragic phenomenon. Like tragedy, prisons contain those who have enacted society's most obscure phantasies and those who look after them. Both are the source of "terror and wonder". In this article I use the tragic paradigm to explore the conflicts intrinsic to forensic institutions, as they emerged in the context of a staff support programme in prison.

Abstract (sommario):
Thomas More's History of Richard III is a metahistory, rich in factual and fictional details. I will discuss More's concept of historiography as a rhetorical art and how his presentation of history transformed details of what was imperfectly known about Richard III into a polemic about what should be believed as an irrefutable truth. More's conception of history is much more amorphous than modern theories. He incorporated classical myths, literature, history, and philosophy along with phantasies, dreams, and oral testimonies to recreate his historical Richard III as a tragic figure. More saw patterns of immoral behavior deeply rooted in the histories of the Plantagenet kings from the twelfth century to 1485 as if the sins of the fathers are repeated by their children. More used his sources, the antiquarian John Rous, the historian Polydore Vergil, and the oral history of Archbishop/Cardinal John Morton to prove that the immorality of the Plantagenets, embodied in Richard III, was a curse that will be purged from England by the ascendance of Henry VII. William Shakespeare copied and embellished More's tragic vision of Richard III. Their historical facts and fictions enhanced their moral signification of the rise and fall of Richard III in English history.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Gaston Bachelard (1884–1962) occupies a unique position in the history of European thinking. As a philosopher of science, he developed a profound interest in genres of the imagination, notably poetry and novels. While emphatically acknowledging the strength, precision and reliability of scientific knowledge compared to every-day experience, he saw literary phantasies as important supplementary sources of insight. Although he significantly influenced authors such as Lacan, Althusser, Foucault and others, while some of his key concepts (“epistemological rupture,” “epistemological obstacle,” “technoscience”) are still widely used, his oeuvre tends to be overlooked. And yet, as I will argue, Bachelard’s extended series of books opens up an intriguing perspective on contemporary science. First, I will point to a remarkable duality that runs through Bachelard’s oeuvre. His philosophy of science consists of two sub-oeuvres: a psychoanalysis of technoscience, complemented by a poetics of elementary imagination. I will point out how these two branches deal with complementary themes: technoscientific artefacts and literary fictions, two realms of human experience separated by an epistemological rupture. Whereas Bachelard’s work initially entails a panegyric in praise of scientific practice, he becomes increasingly intrigued by the imaginary and its basic images (“archetypes”), such as the Mother Earth archetype.

Abstract (sommario):
- The contemporary, multi-lingual psychoanalytic culture is a complicated and pluralistic mix, which may prompt high levels of theoretical and technical confusion. The paper describes some of the experiences, made during the first decade of a psychoanalyst's work, which have contributed to the construction of the Author's way of listening and working. The so called "third ear" will be discussed, here, as a metaphor alluding to the psychoanalyst's working models (combinations of theories and technique) and in particular to her/his internal setting. The approach chosen to describe this latter, will be historical in two different perspectives: conceptual and personal. The historical understanding of the psychoanalytic traditions is useful in balancing different theoretical perspectives and in avoiding the often complementary phenomena of getting lost on one hand, and of becoming closed and fanatic on the other. The second focus will be on the personal and never complete work that has to be done, in order to assimilate/elaborate other people's ideas - the patients' thoughts and phantasies, the teachers' and supervisors' perspectives and the colleagues' and peers' views and remarks.Key words: psychoanalytic training, internal setting, group's dynamics, third ear, gamma function, ręverieParole chiave: formazione analitica, setting interno, dinamiche gruppali, terzo orecchio, funzione gamma, ręverie.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
This article takes off from Freud's literary use of the term ‘fixation’ to explore how female sexuality both establishes the universal foundations of Freud's metapsychology and is excluded from it via a reading of one Freud's strangest and most provocative case presentations. Like a primal word, fixation operates in contradictory fashion: it is associated both with regression and futurity, petrified immobility and contingency. Fixation is Freud's name both for the primal origin of sexuality and the very word for what shuts sexuality down. In ‘A Case of Paranoia Running Counter to the Disease’, the first case history devoted to a woman after Dora, Freud recounts his brief encounter with a woman who is brought to Freud because she is suffering from a (presumably) paranoid delusion that her would-be lover has arranged to have her photographed during their sexual engagements. On the basis of his fictionalized account of this fictive case (the woman never actually enters into treatment with him), Freud establishes a curiously suggestive link between fixation, femininity and photography, and introduces, for the first time, the notion of ‘primal phantasies’. By looking how femininity, fixation and photography come together, this article explores how and why Freud attributes quasi-photographic powers to female sexuality as a means of trying to produce a figure for unseen and un-seeable images that come from a primal and unrecoverable past.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to draw from: Freud's Interpretation of Dreams, citing the Dream of Irma's Injection, to illustrate psychic organization and the relation of psychic to social organization; The Dream of the Failed Dinner Party, to illustrate the inter‐individual context of dreaming; and finally The Dream of the Burning Child, to briefly discuss analogous processes to dreams in relation to the ethics of organization.Design/methodology/approachThe paper consists of a critical conceptual review of literature in the fields of psychoanalysis and organization.FindingsA psychoanalytic focus on dreams acknowledges the importance of the organization of the psyche, highlighting the continuing importance of childhood experience and of repressed desire for adult neurotics. The social organization of the psyche illustrates the importance of understanding that different character types produce different phantasies of organization. It is argued that the inter‐individual context is important to understanding the contagious nature of hysterical desire. Finally, given that traumatic dreams unsettle and destabilize our conscious understanding as good, rational, individual subjects, the paper discusses the analogous roles for dreaming, which might be related to organization ethics.Practical implicationsBy highlighting unconscious processes, the psychoanalytic understanding of dreams asks organizational theorists to enquire into material that is withheld from consciousness.Originality/valueThis paper contributes to the understanding of dreams in relation to the organization of the psyche; the relation of psychic organization to social organization; and the inter‐individual context.
