AbstractArchaeological research can draw on material remains to understand the ways that individuals may have expressed their identities in pursuit of specific goals. Here ritual performances in ancient Mesoamerica are considered for their role in shaping identities deployed to gain social and political power. The Late to Terminal Classic period (a.d. 650–960) site of Las Canoas, Honduras, is offered as a case study. In particular, the monumental Main Plaza Group at Las Canoas is examined as a spatial setting for the performance of rituals involving the use of incense burners and ceramic anthropomorphic figurines. These performances are argued to have facilitated the efforts of certain members of the community to take advantage of shifting political and economic alliances in the region and make a bid for power. Ultimately, however, their efforts to establish spiritual and political leadership did not endure.

THE PURPOSE. Broadband passive filters (BBF) are an effective measure to mitigate harmonic resonance in power systems with nonlinear harmonic producing loads. The disadvantage of simple second-order broadband filters are pure selectivity and excessive fundamental frequency losses. This is especially evident in devices designed for low-order harmonics mitigation. This paper presents new broadband filter configurations with superior performances and low fundamental frequency losses.METHODS. A general method of broadband passive filter design is considered. The filter has the form of single-loaded ladder LC-two-port. Conditions of minimal fundamental frequency loss of the filer are determined.RESULTS. This paper presents new broadband filter configurations with superior damping performances and low fundamental frequency losses. Different broadband filter configurations are compared. The results show that 3-5 order broadband ladder filters have better filtering performance and lower power loss than traditional C-type filters.CONCLUSION. The proposed broadband filters can be used for industrial power systems with powerful nonlinear loads. This will normalize the power quality and at the same time improve the energy efficiency of compensating devices.

In this special issue, we build on Bauman's seminal observation about performance, that ‘the act of expression is put on display, objectified, marked out to a degree from its discursive surrounding and opened up to interpretive scrutiny and evaluation by an audience’ (2000:1). More recently, scholars have moved to examining the performative role of heteroglossia, that is, the use of multiply sourced, semiotic (verbal and nonverbal) forms. In particular, this line of research has shown how attention to heteroglossic performances and their local interpretations can illuminate the subtle politics of dominant and nondominant identities in different ethnographic contexts. This is particularly true of what Coupland (2007) calls ‘high performances’, which, as Bell & Gibson (2011:558) write, are privileged sites for allowing participants to indexically associate expressive forms with social personae. Thus, while all performances are inherently reflexive, heteroglossic performances particularly amplify that reflexivity with respect to their multiple frames, voices, and stances that they presuppose and establish.

For most joint direction of arrival (DOA) and polarization estimation methods, the performances of proposed methods in dealing with unequal power sources are not discussed. However, sources with unequal powers apparently exist widely in actual applications. In this study, we propose a joint DOA and polarization estimation method for unequal power sources by utilizing the invariance property of noise subspace (IPNS) to the power of sources. This work extends the IPNS method to the dual polarized antenna array for joint DOA and polarization estimation. Moreover, we theoretically prove that the IPNS remains valid even when the sources are correlated. The computer simulations illustrate that the proposed method can effectively estimate the DOA and polarization parameters as the power difference between sources increases, as opposed to the polarimetric multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm, which suffers from degradation in resolution probability. In addition, the performances of the proposed method are provided, as well the Cramer Rao Bound (CRB), which show approximate performance as the polarimetric MUSIC algorithm.

Abstract Contemporary Pakistani artist Bani Abidi explores the overlapping and multifaceted relationship between performance, nationalism, and machinations of power. This article focuses on a subset of her work that considers how masculinity relates to these ideas. Specifically, in the works discussed in this article, she interrogates the ways masculinity is produced and maintained, ultimately revealing the hollowness of such performances. Abidi’s own diasporic perspective centres South Asian culture and identities throughout her practice. She draws our attention to universal conditions that govern the world, but does so within a specifically South Asian context. Her work points to the fictive and limiting nature of gender roles, revealing how these performances of political masculinity are legacies of the colonial encounter. By examining how the performance of masculinity operates as a mechanism of power within Abidi’s work, this article uncovers how her work addresses displays of nationalism in Pakistan and India, particularly as it relates to the region’s post colonial history.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of laser power on the electrochemical corrosion performance in 3.5% NaCl, 0.1 M H2SO4 and 0.1 M NaOH solutions, which provided an experimental basis for the application of Al–Ti–Ni amorphous coating in marine environment. Design/methodology/approach Amorphous Al–Ti–Ni coatings were fabricated on S355 structural steel by laser thermal spraying (LTS) at different laser powers. The surface and cross-section morphologies, chemical element distribution, phases and crystallization behaviors of obtained coatings were analyzed using a scanning electron microscope, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscope, X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry, respectively. The effects of laser power on the electrochemical corrosion performances of Al–Ti–Ni coatings in 3.5% NaCl, 0.1 M H2SO4 and 0.1 M NaOH solutions were investigated using an electrochemical workstation. Findings The crystallization temperature of Al–Ti–Ni coatings fabricated at the laser power of 1,300 and 1,700 W is ∼520°C, whereas that fabricated at the laser power of 1,500 W is ∼310°C. The coatings display excellent corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaCl and 0.1 M NaOH solutions, while a faster dissolution rate in 0.1 M H2SO4 solution. The coatings fabricated at the laser power of 1,300 and 1,700 W present the better electrochemical corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaCl and 0.1 M NaOH solutions, whereas that fabricated at the laser power of 1,500 W exhibits the better electrochemical corrosion resistance in 0.1 M H2SO4 solution. Originality/value In this work, Al-wire-cored Ti–Ni powder was first on S355 steel with the laser power of 1,300, 1,500 and 1,700 W, and the effects of laser power on the electrochemical corrosion performance in 3.5% NaCl, 0.1 M H2SO4 and 0.1 M NaOH solutions were investigated using an electrochemical workstation.

A Deadbeat current controller for an LC-coupling hybrid active power filter is proposed, which can track with the reference compensation current with low steady- state error and fast dynamic response. Moreover, it can lead Hybrid Active power Filter to be operating at a fixed switching frequency with low output current ripples, thus reducing the size of the filtering circuit. The stability issue and parameter design of the proposed deadbeat current controller are analyzed and discussed. Finally, the compensating performance of the deadbeat current controller for the Hybrid Active Power Filter (LC-HAPF) is verified by simulation compared with the conventional hysteresis bandwidth modulation control, the proportional-integral (PI) control, and the proportional multi-resonant control for the LC-HAPF, which shows its effectiveness and superior compensating performances.

Le travail présenté dans ce mémoire s’intéresse à la prédiction des vibrations d'un noyau de transformateur multicouche, constitué d'un assemblage de tôles ferromagnétiques. Le problème couplé magnéto-mécanique est résolu par une approche séquentielle progressive : la résolution magnétique est suivie d'une résolution mécanique. Un modèle multi-échelle simplifié 3D décrivant les anisotropies magnétiques et magnétostrictives, et considérant les non-linéarités magnétiques et de magnétostriction, est utilisé comme loi de comportement du matériau. La structure du noyau du transformateur est modélisée en 2D. Une technique d'homogénéisation permet de tenir compte du comportement anisotrope de chaque couche afin de définir un comportement moyen pour chaque élément du maillage éléments finis.. Des mesures expérimentales sont ensuite effectuées, permettant d’une part la validation des lois de comportement matériau utilisées, et d’autres part des modèles de comportement structurel statique, du comportement structurel dynamique et de l'estimation du bruit. Différents matériaux et différentes géométries de prototypes de transformateurs sont considérés pour ce travail. Des optimisations structurelles sont finalement proposées grâce à des simulations numériques s’appuyant sur le modèle développé, afin de réduire les vibrations et les émissions de bruit du noyau du transformateur
This thesis deals with the prediction of the vibration of a multi-layer transformer core made of an assembly of electrical sheets. This magneto-mechanical coupled problem is solved by a stepping finite element method sequential approach: magnetic resolution is followed by mechanical resolution. A 3D Simplified Multi-Scale Model (SMSM) describing both magnetic and magnetostrictive anisotropies is used as the constitutive law of the material. The transformer core structure is modeled in 2D and a homogenization technique is implemented to take the anisotropic behavior of each layer into consideration and define an average behavior at each element of the finite element mesh. Experimental measurements are then carried out, allowing the validation of the material constitutive law, static structural behavior, dynamic structural behavior, and the noise estimation. Different materials geometries are considered for this workStructural optimizations are finally achieved by numerical simulation for lower vibration and noise emission of the transformer cores

Abstract (sommario):

Two new specification tests for overidentifying restrictions proposed by Hahn and Hausman (2002:b) are here tested and compared to the classical Sargan test. Power properties are found to be very similar in overall performance, while Sargan generally has better size than the new tests. Also, size is distorted for one of the new tests, thus a tendency to reject prevails. In addition, sometimes severe bias is found which affects the tests’ performances, something that differs from earlier studies.

Dans l'aéronautique, l'alimentation d'un système embarqué contribue largement à augmenter le coût récurrent, l'efficacité globale et le volume de l'équipement. De plus, les alimentations sont installées dans un environnement sévère avec une large plage de tension d'entrée et un milieu confiné. Dans ces conditions, les pertes du convertisseur influent fortement sur le volume et le poids du système qui doit s'efforcer de limiter les échauffements. Ainsi, la réduction des pertes du convertisseur est l'un des leviers les plus efficaces pour augmenter la densité de puissance des convertisseurs. Parmi les techniques connues, la commutation douce peut être une solution pour réduire les pertes du convertisseur tout en augmentant sa fréquence de découpage. La sélection d'une topologie à commutation douce se fait selon 3 critères; un faible nombre de composants, une fonction de transfert et des commutations douces qui couvrent toute la plage de fonctionnement. En prenant tout cela en considération, la meilleure candidate semble être la topologie Flyback active-clamp. Avec seulement une capacité et un transistor supplémentaires, cette topologie possède une fonction abaisseuse et élévatrice et réalise des commutations en ZVS au primaire.Un travail technologique doit également être réalisé afin d'améliorer davantage l'efficacité du convertisseur. Les technologies qui ont été sélectionnées sont les transistors GaN pour leurs performances en commutation et le transformateur planar pour son intégration dans le PCB. Par ailleurs, une intégration verticale du convertisseur qui est à présent sur deux cartes superposées, une pour les fonctions BF et l'autre pour les fonctions HF, a permis de minimiser l'empreinte du convertisseur.Les technologies émergentes vont faire un important saut technologique, en particulier dans les systèmes où l'alimentation représente une part significative de l'équipement. Le succès des transistors GaN met clairement en lumière que l'électronique de puissance devient plus performante. Dans ce contexte, réduire les éléments parasites est une priorité. En se projetant dans le futur, l'intérêt porté aux alimentations intégrées va accélérer le développement des techniques de packaging telles que l'enfouissement des composants dans le PCB et les modules sur céramique
The power supply system in an onboard aeronautical application represents an important contribution to the recurring cost, global efficiency and the volume of the system. Moreover, power supplies are installed in a harsh environment with a wide input voltage range and a confined area. In these conditions, power supply losses impact the converter volume and weight to prevent the system from overheating. Therefore, a gain in efficiency is the main purposes, since it has a significant impact on the reduction of weight and volume of the equipment.Soft-switching is a reasonable technique to increase the switching frequency and limit the power losses. The selection of the topology should take into account 3 considerations: a low number of components, an efficient control, which allows to cover the wide input voltage range and a soft-switching validity over a large input voltage range. Regarding all the considerations, the Flyback active-Clamp topology seems to be the best candidate which has a step-up and down transfer function and ZVS at the primary with only ones additional capacitor and transistor.A technological work is also done to further increase the power supply efficiency. The technologies which have been selected are the GaN transistors for its good switching performances and a planar transformer for its integration into the PCB. Also, the vertical integration of the converter which is actually on two stackable boards, one for the low frequency functions and the other one for the high frequency functions, minimizes the footprint of the converter. The new technologies will make a huge technological leap, especially in the systems where the power supply represents a significant proportion of the equipment. The success of GaN transistor highlights that the power electronics is currently driving by the performance and reducing the parasitic elements is becoming the priority. Looking forward into the future, the interest in 3D packaging and PCB integration will grow rapidly to provide a fully embedded power supply

This thesis explores the ways in which teenage girls use narrative performance to negotiate participation, social and gender identity, and individual authority in order to establish ratified and equal statuses of power within their social peer group. Although previous work on narrative discourse has shown that narratives can act as the catalyst for the complex co/construction of identity especially in social situations of talk, little work has been done to focus on the way teenagers, particularly girls, use this discourse to their benefit as they fulfill social and gender goals in social and conversational settings. Furthermore, while multimodal, narrative performance has been discussed as a cognitive and participation centered function of narrative discourse, this work has been largely quantitative. Consequently, the field of sociolinguistics, predominantly in the realm of narrative discourse, could use more work on the social function of narrative performance. This project, then, combines an analysis of teenage girls’ narrative co/construction in social contexts with a qualitative analysis of their use of narrative performance to show the ways in which this combination allows the girls to do complicated social and linguistic work to manage membership statuses, via complex participation frameworks. Data for this project consists of 5, one hour long, audio and video recorded instances in which four teenage girls, who make up an established peer group, hang out during regular social meetings. An analysis carried out via a lens of Narrative Discourse influenced by Conversation Analysis (CA), revealed that teenage girls are doing a great deal of power negotiation during their social interactions and that moments of narrative, particularly those in which narrative performances are utilized, function to make these negotiations both visible and therefore more influential on overall group dynamics. Suggestions for how this research could be continued in the future are discussed.

La domanda globale di energia elettrica è in continua crescita, al doppio del tasso di crescita del consumo di energia primaria. Un uso efficiente dell'energia, detto in altri termini "efficienza energetica", ha come obiettivo ridurre la quantità di energia richiesta per fornire i diversi prodotti e servizi. Progressivamente diventerà obbligatoria per l'utente finale una sempre più chiara transizione dal combustibile primario verso sistemi di energia elettrica e l'efficienza energetica così come l'integrazione delle energie rinnovabili diventeranno una delle principali sfide del futuro. L'elettronica di potenza svolgerà un ruolo fondamentale nel cambiamento di questo paradigma. Nella generazione di energia elettrica vi sarà un importante migrazione alle fonti rinnovabili come future fonti energietiche. Nel campo dell'elettronica di potenza, quattro ambiti applicativi devono necessariamente essere presi in considerazione quando si parla di efficienza energetica: motori elettrici, convertitori di potenza, illuminazione a LED e HVDC. In questa tesi è stata riportata una discussione dettagliata dei principali convertitori di potenza e sono state introdotte delle variazioni in alcuni modelli per rendere gli stessi più adatti alla rappresentazione del comportamento dei convertitori per particolari topologie o modalità di funzionamento. Sono stati proposti e argomentati alcuni controllori basati su passività per la correzione del fattore di potenza; essi sono risultati particolarmente adatti a scenari applicativi come quello del controllo motori o dell'illuminazione a LED. E' stato inoltre presentato un controllore PI basato su passività per il tracking globale valido per sistemi rappresentabili nella forma bilineare: particolarmente interessante è l'esempio applicativo riportato, relativo all'ambito del controllo HVDC. Inoltre è stato elaborato un controllore sliding mode robusto alle variazioni di carico per la regolazione della tensione di uscita nei regolatori DC--DC. Infine sono stati progettati degli osservatori di corrente per convertitori boost con l'obiettivo di rendere superfluo l'utilizzo dei costosi sensori di corrente in questa topologia. Ciascun algoritmo è stato testato numericamente e la maggior parte di essi è stata anche implementata su piattaforme embedded e provata in laboratorio con l'obiettivo di verificarne e valutarne le prestazioni. Le prove sperimentali sono state effettuate nel Laboratorio di Robotica Avanzata del DII presso l'Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, nel Laboratory of Energy Department presso il Supélec, Paris e nel Laboratoire de Signaux et Systémes presso il Supélec, Paris.
The global demand for electrical energy is growing continuously, at double the growth rate of primary energy consumption. Efficient energy use, sometimes simply called energy efficiency, is the goal to reduce the amount of energy required to provide products and services. A clear transition to more electric energy systems is mandatory as energy efficiency from primary fuel to the enduser and the integration of renewables are the future key challenges. Power electronics will play a key role in this paradigm shift to more renewable electrical energy and higher energy efficiency in multiple applications. In electrical energy generation a major shift to renewables as sources of future electrical energy will happen. In the field of Power Electronics four topics must be taken into account talking about energy efficiency: electrical motors, power converters, LED lighting and HVDC. In this thesis a detailed discussion on the modelling of the most known power converters has been made and some more accurate models have been proposed to better represent the behaviour of particular topologies or working modes. Passivity-Based controllers for power factor control have been proposed and argued; they resulted particularly suited in the motor control and in the LED lighting applicative fields. A global tracking passivity–based PI controller for bilinear systems has been proposed: an example application has been presented in the field of HVDC control. Furthermore, a sliding-mode robust to load variations controller for output voltage regulation in DC--DC converters has been presented. Finally inductor current observers for the boost topology has been illustrated with the aim of making superfluous the use of expensive sensors in this topology. Each proposed algorithm has been numerically tested and many of them has been experimentally verified on embedded platforms and their performances evaluated. Experimental tests have been done in the Laboratory of Advanced Robotics of DII at Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, in the Laboratory of Energy Department at Supélec, Paris and in the Laboratoire de Signaux et Systémes at Supélec, Paris.

L’engouement actuel pour les applications de type réseaux de capteurs sans-fil ou internet des objets (IoT) relance la nécessité, alors initiée par les applications mobiles, de concevoir des émetteurs-récepteurs radio à basse consommation. Dans ce contexte, l’objet des travaux de thèse est de proposer des techniques de réduction de la consommation des récepteurs radio tout en minimisant l’impact sur leur architecture de manière à pouvoir adapter leur consommation aux besoins de performance.Pour ce faire, l’utilisation intermittente du convertisseur analogique numérique (ADC) a, dans un premier temps, été étudiée puis celle-ci a été généralisée à l’ensemble du récepteur. Pour chacune de ces approches, une modélisation de la dégradation des performances en termes de taux d’erreur (BER) a été confrontée à une estimation de la réduction de la consommation engendrée. Par ailleurs, l’impact de l’ajout de modules spécifiques aux techniques proposées est décrit à l’aide de résultats concernant leurs complexités et leurs consommations. L’ensemble de ces résultats s’inscrit pleinement dans le domaine de recherche des récepteurs adaptatifs pour lesquels les performances sont adaptées au canal de transmission en temps réel.Finalement, une technique de compensation digitale des défauts de quadrature a été proposée, rendant possible l’utilisation d’une PLL moins énergivore mais avec des performances dégradées. Cette technique utilise une recherche par dichotomie des poids de compensation des défauts de quadrature, lui permettant de converger suffisamment rapidement pour pouvoir réaliser la compensation sur une portion connue du message reçu et ainsi éviter une perte d’information
The recent craze for the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and the Internet of Things (IoT) applications boosts the necessity, previously introduced by the mobile applications, to design low power transceivers. In this context, the purpose of this thesis is to propose some techniques to reduce the power consumption of RF receivers while minimizing the impact on their architecture in order to be able to adapt their power consumption to the required performances.To do so, the study of the intermittent use of the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is firstly proposed and then extended to the whole receiver. In each case, the degradation of the receiver performances in terms of bit error rate (BER) is compared to an estimate of the obtained decrease of the power consumption. Moreover, the complexity and the overhead power consumption of the modules involved in the processing of the proposed techniques are also estimated and discussed. All these results are part of the field of research called “adaptive receiver” that tries to adapt the receiver performances to its environment in real time.Finally, a digital compensation technique of the quadrature imbalances was proposed. It allows using a less energy-consuming PLL but with degraded quadrature performances and compensating the mismatches in the digital domain. This technique uses a dichotomic search of the compensation weights allowing a fast convergence in order for the compensation to be done during the reception of a known portion of the received message and therefore avoiding a loss of information

La demande toujours croissante de connectivité sans fil entraine le développement de nouvelles générations de normes de communication utilisant les dernières technologies en matière de télécommunication. Pour atteindre les débits annoncés, l'utilisation de signaux de plus en plus complexes est nécessaire afin d'occuper le plus efficacement le spectre radio restreint. Cela implique notamment des contraintes de plus en plus strictes sur les emetteurs radio afin d'assurer l'intégrité des informations tranmises et une bonne qualité de service. Dans ce contexte, cette thèse a pour objectif l'amélioration des performances énergétiques et spectrales d'un amplificateur de puissance (PA) en technologie CMOS pour appareil mobile en utilisant une méthode de linéarisation. Le PA conçu dans cette thèse est basé sur la cellule MASMOS (cellule brevettée) et doit répondre à notre cahier des charges basé sur le standard 3G.L'étude des interconnexions flip-chip sur les performances de la cellule révèle que son impact doit être atténué. Pour cela, la topologie différentielle est retenue pour la conception du PA. Une structure différentielle de référence (n'incluant pas de méthode de linéarisation) est conçue et mesurée. Elle consiste en un étage de puissance terminé par un balun sur substrat stratifié synthétisant les impédances optimales de l'étage à la fréquence fondamentale et au second harmonique. Les résultats obtenus sont proches de l'état de l'art existant en PA CMOS pour la 3G sans utiliser de technique de linéarisation.Nous proposons ensuite deux méthodes de linéarisation circuit spécifiques aux structures différentielles. Nous retenons l'utilisation d'un filtre différentiel au second harmonique au sein de la cellule d'amplification. Un PA complet (étage driver + étage de puissance) est conçu. Nous proposons une méthode de conception pour le balun de sortie et du réseau d'adaptation inter-étage. Les résultats finals de simulation permettent de conclure que le PA proposé dépasse les objectifs du cahier des charges
The increasing demande of wireless connectivity drives the development of the new genration standards using the leading edge technologies in terms of telecommunication. To meet announced data rates, the use of more and more complex signal is necessary to have the most efficient use of the finite radio spectrum. This involve more stringent constraints on the radio emitter to ensure information integrity and a good quality of service. In this context, this thesis aims to the energetic and spectral performance improvement of a CMOS Power Amplifier (PA) for handheld application through a linearization scheme. The PA designed in this thesis is based on the MASMOS (patented cell) and must meet our specifications.The flip-chip interconnection study shows that its impact must be mitigated. For that, we select the differential topology pour the PA design. A differential reference structure (withtout linearization scheme) are designed and measured. It consists in a power stage terminated by a balun integrated on a laminate substrate synthesizing optimal impedance at the fundamental and second harmonic frequencies. The obtained results are close to the state of the art for the CMOS PA for 3G without any linearization scheme.Then, we propose two circuit linearization scheme specific to differential structures. We have selected the use of a differential second harmonic filter within the amplifying cell. The full PA (driver stage + power stage) is then designed. We propose a design method for the output balun as well as the inter-stage matching network. The final simulation results allow us to conclude that the proposed PA exceed the specifications

This Master Thesis consisted in realizing a tool able to design, estimate the cost and calculate annual yields of a molten salt solar power tower. Such tool was made for a company providing CSP equipment and plant solutions for engineering, engineering and procurement or also EPC of a solar power tower. The Company wishes to propose competitive plant configurations presenting a good trade-off between cost and revenues. The Company can oversee the EPC of a whole power plant or/and supply some components of the molten salt cycle and of the water/steam cycle. The tool models a large scale solar power tower with a thermal energy storage system on EBSILON®Professional 12.04, a thermodynamic software.   When launching a simulation, the tool sizes the components of the molten salt cycle (design phase) according to user’s inputs, the other components have their characteristics based on a reference project. Depending on the size of the components, the total cost is determined and the revenues over a year of operation are calculated (annual performance). When performing several simulations with different configurations, the Company can judge about the economic viability of plant configurations by comparing their LCOEs and NPVs.   The present document describes the result of the Master Thesis, that is to say the tool itself, what it contains and how it works. The methodology adopted to design the components is presented in depth, the way costs were calculated is exposed. The document explains the annual performance calculations and the simple operation strategy implemented. Finally, a technical and cost validation was carried out but it would require some further work to be complete. The design and cost calculations are performed in few seconds, the annual calculations take around 2-3h.   One main contribution of the Master Thesis is to show that designing, estimating costs and calculating annual performances is feasible in a single tool operating at a high level of detail. Using the tool during a solar power tower project could considerably facilitate the current process in place at the Company. It can also allow to compare an important number of configurations to determine a good techno-economic solution.
Denna uppsats bestod i att genomföra ett verktyg som kan utforma, beräkna kostnaden och beräkna årliga avkastningar på ett smält salt soltorn. Ett sådant verktyg gjordes för ett företag inom soltornsteknik, upphandling och konstruktion (SUK) som vill föreslå konkurrenskraftiga anläggningskonfigurationer som presenterar en bra avvägning mellan kostnad och intäkter. Företaget, samtidigt som det övervakar SUK för en hel kraftverk, levererar det också vissa komponenter i den smälta saltcykeln. Verktyget modellerar ett storskaligt soltorn med ett värmeenergilagringssystem på EBSILON®Professional 12.04, en termodynamisk programvara.   När en simulering startas, ritar verktyget komponenterna i den smälta saltcykeln (designfas) enligt användarens inmatningar, de andra komponenterna är baserade på ett referensprojekt. Beroende på komponenternas storlek bestäms den totala kostnaden och intäkterna över ett verksamhetsår beräknas (årlig prestation). När flera simuleringar görs med olika konfigurationer kan företaget bedöma sin ekonomiska lönsamhet genom att jämföra sina LCOE och NPV.   Det här dokumentet beskriver resultatet av masterprojektet, det vill säga själva verktyget, vad det innehåller och hur det fungerar. Den metod som antagits för att designa komponenterna presenteras grundligt samt hur kostnaderna beräknades. Dokumentet förklarar de årliga prestationsberäkningarna och den enkla operationsstrategin som implementerats. Slutligen genomfördes en teknisk och kostnadsvalidering, men det skulle kräva ytterligare insats för att göra arbetet fullständigt. Konstruktionen och kostnadsberäkningarna utförs på få sekunder, de årliga beräkningarna tar cirka 2-3 timmar.   Ett huvudbidrag av examensarbetet är att visa att utformning, uppskattning av kostnader och beräkning av årliga prestanda är möjlig i ett enda verktyg som arbetar på en detaljrik nivå. Att använda verktyget under ett soltornsprojekt kan betydligt underlätta den nuvarande processen på plats hos företaget. Det kan också göra det möjligt att jämföra ett viktigt antal konfigurationer för att bestämma en bra tekno-ekonomisk lösning.

Les développements récents dans le domaine des circuits intégrés (IC) à basse tension ont ouvert la voie à des dispositifs électroniques économes en énergie dans un réseau mondial en plein essor appelé l’internet des objets (IoT) ou l’internet des choses (IoE). Cependant, la durabilité de tous ces capteurs interconnectés est compromise par le besoin constant d’une batterie embarquée – qui doit être rechargée ou remplacée – ou d’un récupérateur d’énergie à rendement très limité. La consommation d’énergie des systèmes électroniques grand public actuels est en effet cinquante fois plus élevée que celle d’un collecteur d’une taille de l’ordre du cm 2 , ou limitée à quelques mois sur une petite batterie. Cela contraint la viabilité de solutions fonctionnant à l’échelle d’une vie humaine. Les systèmes sur puce (SoCs) à venir nécessitent donc de relever le défi de cette lacune énergétique en optimisant l’architecture, de la technologie au niveau du système. L’approche technique de ce travail vise à démontrer la faisabilité d’un SoC efficient, ultra-basse tension (ULV) et ultra-basse puissance (ULP) utilisant exclusivement les dernières directives industrielles en matière de technologies FD-SOI (Fully Depleted Silicon On Insulator) 28 nm et 22 nm. Plusieurs SoCs multi-domaines basés sur des cœurs ARM sont implémentés pour démontrer des stratégies de réveil basées sur les entrées des capteurs. Ainsi, en optimisant l’architecture du système, en sélectionnant et en concevant correctement les composants avec des caractéristiques technologiques choisies de manière adéquate, et en ajustant soigneusement l’implémentation physique, on obtient un SoC entièrement optimisé en énergie
Recent developments in the field of low voltage integrated circuits (IC) have paved the way towards energy efficient electronic devices in a booming global network called the internet-of-things (IoT) or the internet-of-everything (IoE). However, the sustainability of all these inter- connected sensors is still undermined by the constant need for either an on-board battery – that must be recharged or replaced – or an energy harvester with very limited power efficiency. The power consumption of present consumer electronic systems is fifty times higher than the energy available by cm 2-size harvester or limited to a few months on a small battery, thus hardly viable for lifetime solutions. Upcoming systems-on-chip (SoCs) must overcome the challenge of this energy gap by architecture optimizations from technology to system level. The technical approach of this work aims to demonstrate the feasibility of an efficient ultra-low-voltage (ULV) and ultra-low-power (ULP) SoC using exclusively latest industrial guidelines in 28 nm and 22 nm fully depleted silicon on insulator (FD-SOI) technologies. Several multi-power-domain SoCs based on ARM cores are implemented to demonstrate wake up strategies based on sensors inputs. By optimizing the system architecture, properly selecting and designing compo- nents with technology features chosen adequately, carefully tuning the implementation, a fully energy-optimized SoC is realized

Abstract (sommario):
There are various finned tube heat exchanges with diverse thermo-flow performance being widely applied in the power plants. Wherein, the H-type finned tubes are widely used in the economizer to improve the waste heat utilization efficiency of the coal fired boiler. The experimental studies regarding the heat transfer and resistance characteristics of single H-type and double H-type finned tubes have obtained the thermo-flow performances under different conditions. In addition, the test facility of double channels is specially designed to ensure the test accuracy. Correlations for Euler number Eu, Nusselt number Nu and Performance evaluation index Pec with Reynolds number Re are presented by analyzing the thermo-flow performances of the used bundles. The results show that the single H-type finned tube performs better heat transfer characteristic and relatively worse resistance characteristic than the double H-type finned tube. Consequently, the double H-type finned tube is recommended in the practical application considering the higher manufacturing installation efficiency. (CSPE)

Abstract (sommario):
The international master’s program, Outdoor Environments for Health and Well-Being, leads to a Master of Science degree specializing in environmental psychology. The program covers health-promoting outdoor environments throughout the lifespan, evidence-based health design, occupational aspects, and the One Health concept. One of the courses offered is Nature and Animal-Assisted Interventions (MP0009), which focuses on occupations, occupational performance, and values performed with natural elements and/or animals in indoor or outdoor settings, i.e., a place independent occupational performances for health promotion. This fact sheet is a final assignment of the student´s work, presented at the NAAI course conference in 2024.

In situ pump performance testing was performed at the TransCanada pipeline Monitor station in Alberta Canada and Liebenthal station in Saskatchewan Canada in accordance with the Field Pump Performance Testing Procedure (PRCI report PR-471-14207-R01). Testing at the Monitor station was performed by Sulzer with two different batches of crude oil with slightly different viscosities and densities. Because of the pipeline operation limitations the flow could not be varied appreciably, however the flow points were near the pumps bep flow and therefore believed to be beneficial. To help validate field pump performance testing techniques measurements were taken using two methods to measure flow and two to measure pump power-in. Testing at the Liebenthal station was performed by TransCanada personnel on one fixed speed and one variable speed unit. All testing was performed with one batch of crude oil. The fixed speed unit power was measured with electrical power to the motor and the variable speed unit power was measured with a torque meter and electrical power. A full description of the Excel sheets used to calculate the field pump performance and the factory test data corrected to field conditions is made. The spreadsheet is included with this report. This work will benefit the liquids pipeline operators by validating the field test procedure, thereby providing assurance and acceptance of the methods. Using these field pump performance testing methods on additional pumps will help populate the database of measured viscous pump performances. This data can then be used to further improve the Hydraulic Institutes viscous correction calculations. Additionally, improved field pump performance measurements will allow the pipeline users to optimize their pipeline operation.

In recent years there has been a growing concern over the performance of Israel and U.S. agricultural marketing organizations. In Israel, poor performance of some marketing institutions has led to radical reforms. Examples are the two leading export industries - citrus and flowers. In the U.S., growth of local market power is eliminating competitive row product prices which served as the basis for farmer cooperative payment plans. This research studies, theoretically, several aspects of the above problem and develops empirical methods to assess their relative importance. The theoretical part deals with two related aspects of the operation of processing and marketing firms. The first is the technological structure of these firms. To this end, we formalize a detailed theory that describes the production process itself and the firm's decision. The model accounts for multiple products and product characteristics. The usefulness of the theory for measurement of productivity and pricing of raw material is demonstrated. The second aspect of the processing and marketing firm that we study is unique to the agricultural sector, where many such firms are cooperatives. In such cooperative an efficient and fair mechanism for purchasing raw materials from members is crucial to successful performances of the firm. We focus on: 1) pricing of raw materials. 2) comparison of employment of quota and price regimes by the cooperative to regulate the quantities, supplied by members. We take into consideration that the cooperative management is subject to pressure from member farmers. 3) Tier pricing for raw materials in order to ensure efficiency and zero profits at the cooperative level. This problem is examined in both closed and open cooperatives. The empirical part focuses in: 1) the development of methodologies for estimating demand for differentiated products; 2) assessing farmers response to component pricing; 3) measurement of potential and actual exploitation of market power by an agricultural marketing firm. The usefulness of the developed methodologies are demonstrated by several application to agricultural sub-sectors, including: U.S. dairy industry, Oregon wine industry, Israeli Cotton industry and Israeli Citrus industry.

The flue-gas desulfurization gypsum (FGD gypsum) from Mae Moh power station is characterized for its physical and chemical properties, precleaned by acid leaching and sedimentation to light coloured powder which is later used, in later used, in comparison with natural gypsum, as raw material for the syntheses of [beta]-hemihydrate, anhydrites and multiphase plasters. Based on the commercial specification, these gypsum plasters are fabricated into product, i.e. gypsum board and projection plaster slurry. With the employment of gypsum technology, the product performance can be engineered to match up to that of the natural gypsum.

This paper presents advancements in a surrogate-based, rotor blade design optimization framework for improved helicopter performance. The framework builds on previous successes by allowing multiple airfoil sections to designed simultaneously to minimize required rotor power in multiple flight conditions. Rotor power in hover and forward flight, at advance ratio 𝜇 = 0.3, are used as objective functions in a multi-objective genetic algorithm. The framework is constructed using Galaxy Simulation Builder with optimization provided through integration with Dakota. Three independent airfoil sections are morphed using ParFoil and aerodynamic coefficients for the updated airfoil shapes (i.e., lift, drag, moment) are calculated using linear interpolation from a database generated using C81Gen/ARC2D. Final rotor performance is then calculated using RCAS. Several demonstrative optimization case studies were conducted using the UH-60A main rotor. The degrees of freedom for this case are limited to the airfoil camber, camber crest position, thickness, and thickness crest position for each of the sections. The results of the three-segment case study show improvements in rotor power of 4.3% and 0.8% in forward flight and hover, respectively. This configuration also yields greater reductions in rotor power for high advance ratios, e.g., 6.0% reduction at 𝜇 = 0.35, and 8.8% reduction at 𝜇 = 0.4.

Federal facilities, industrial areas, academic campuses, and communities are working to incorporate greater renewable energy sources and energy storage in their power infrastructure. While renewable sources of energy can—and do—support several facilities, uncertainty still exists about how reliably these sources of energy can support small and critical power systems with higher reliability standards, such as Army installations, tactical microgrids, remote community grids, and emergency response power systems. Maintaining reliability is already a significant challenge for power grids, and those that have a high proportion of renewable energy face particular challenges due to their intermittent power production. This technical report addresses the uncertainty by presenting a new computational model called Analysis of Microgrid Performance, Reliability, and Resilience (AMPeRRe). The model forecasts the power availability, fuel consumption, specific resilience factors, and excess energy production of proposed grids that include renewable energy sources and energy storage. If proposed grids are forecasted to lose power availability, users can apply this model to find which resources are needed to achieve 100% power availability and optimize resource quantities for ideal performance outcomes. AMPeRRe significantly reduces the uncertainty around renewable energy and energy storage in power grids and informs the critical resource investment decisions needed to yield improved long-term outcomes.
