Testo completoProgresses in neuroanatomy and brain connectivity have often led to a better understanding of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. Recent studies have shown that the tail of the ventral tegmental area (tVTA) is the primary inhibitory control of dopaminergic systems, and also participates in motor control, prediction error coding and responses to aversive stimuli and drugs of abuse, making it a potential player in associated pathologies such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorders. We have combined molecular analysis and behavioral assessment techniques with a therapeutic and preventive pharmacological approach. Our results show a major plasticity of the glutamatergic synapses of the tVTA, significantly increasing the activity of the structure. By pharmacologically blocking local glutamatergic transmission, either preventively or therapeutically, we have highlighted the crucial role of the tVTA in behavioral adaptation to stress. This project provides a novel characterization of the role of tVTA in cognitive symptoms associated with mood disorders
