Abstract (sommario):
Relationships between measures of self-perception, attitude within a particular class, cohesion, and final grade were examined. College students completed Self-perception scales (forced and free-choice), Attitude-Toward-Class scale, and a cohesion scale, scores on which correlated with final grades. Analysis indicated that students clearly differentiated themselves into the three designated self-perceived types; however, the perceptive types were not significantly differentiated from each other, with the exception of the Objective Thinker for Category 5 (Evaluation of Others). Subjects were not different in their perceptions of the class-setting except for the Objective Thinker on the Danger/Safety subscale. Each self-perceived type also perceived different scores on cohesion. Self-perception, attitude toward class, and cohesion did not significantly affect class grade. Although there was little direct relationship among these three variables with final grade, the data encourage further exploration of self-perception and class climate.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this research, using correspondence analysis on responses to semantic differential scores, was both to examine self-perception in a clinical sample of 120 obese women and to compare this with their attitudes toward obese, thin, and normal persons. Analyses allow us to conclude that, if obese women, as reported previously, consider obesity as a largely negative condition, they have an ambivalent attitude towards themselves. Even though they share the negative connotations socially attributed to obesity, emotionally these obese women not only tend not to recognize their “abnormality” but strongly desire it.

Silvia, Paul J., e Guido H. E. Gendolla. "On Introspection and Self-Perception: Does Self-Focused Attention Enable Accurate Self-Knowledge?" Review of General Psychology 5, n. 3 (settembre 2001): 241–69. http://dx.doi.org/10.1037/1089-2680.5.3.241.

Abstract (sommario):
How is introspection related to accurate self-perception? Self-focused attention is said to facilitate accurate judgments of cognitive aspects (attitudes, standards, and attributions) and somatic aspects (sensations, arousal, physical symptoms, emotions) of self. The present skeptical review concludes that the “perceptual accuracy hypothesis” is unsupported. There is simply little direct evidence, and the indirect evidence is better explained by objective self-awareness theory's core tenet: Self-focus increases consistency motivation. Most studies have also failed to appreciate the complexity of establishing the accuracy of self-judgment. The authors discuss some conceptual issues that future work should recognize, such as the logics of accuracy research, the role of honesty standards in accurate self-reports, differences in self-perception and object perception, and the implications of different self-theories for accuracy.

Abstract (sommario):
We examined the impact of a ubiquitous mentoring program on self-esteem, school adaptation flexibility, and perception of parental attitude toward child rearing of elementary students from low socioeconomic status families. We selected 23 elementary-school students whom we had identified as high-risk and each student was paired with a trained mentor for 20 sessions of a mentoring program. Ubiquitous mentoring significantly changed the students' perception of parental attitudes about child rearing and their perception of parents using democratic and authoritative styles of parenting had increased after 20 weeks of mentoring. Social self-esteem rapidly declined from baseline to the 20th week and an increase in family self-esteem was noted on the 20th week of the program. A rapid decline in school adaptation flexibility was noted from baseline to the end of the mentoring program. The data indicate that a ubiquitous mentoring program can serve as a support system for vulnerable children. We found that outcomes were greatly influenced by the length and quality of the mentoring and these factors should be considered as topics for future study.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examined how four different types of self-construal affected perception of socio-emotional adjustment (i.e., anxiety, depression, distress, self-esteem, family cohesion, peer support, pro-substance abuse attitude) and perception of relationship with community (i.e., sense of community, adverse neighborhood) in a sample of 152 Vietnamese-American high-school adolescents. Using cluster analysis, the four-type self-construal model postulated by Kim, Hunter, Miyahara, Horvath, Bresnahan, & Yoon (1996) was replicated in this sample. The bicultural students (i.e., those with strong interdependent and independent self-construal) reported greater perceived adjustment across all measures except anxiety when compared to other groups (marginal, interdependent, and independent) in the study. Implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
We explored the effect of racing advergames on player perception of brand personality and investigated the roles of flow and self-construal in this effect. Participants were 202 male students at colleges in the United States and Taiwan, and they completed pretest and posttest scales relating to their feeling and attitude toward brands before and after playing the racing advergame. The results showed that, when playing advergames, flow and self-construal interacted to influence perception of brand personality. Gamers experiencing high flow during the game provided positive feedback on brand personality, whereas gamers experiencing low flow provided negative feedback. Gamers with an interdependent self-construal reported higher scores for evaluation of brand personality after playing advergames than did gamers with an independent self-construal.

Abstract (sommario):
Specialized support for gifted children and adolescents should be based on the specifics of their social situation of development which is largely determined by the fact of identifying a person as gifted. ‘Labeling giftedness’ has a significant impact on the system of interpersonal relationships and self-attitude of children and adolescents. However, there is no holistic construct of the phenomenon of ‘self-perception of giftedness’ in psychology today, therefore, we defined the theoretical and empirical development of this construct as the goal of our study. The paper presents the results of this study which describes the construct of ‘self-perception of giftedness’ basing on the survey of 422 adolescents aged 15—17 years who had been selected for gifted education programmes. Using factor analysis we identify the main dimensions of the construct typical for late adolescence: giftedness resources/risks assessment; environment of risks and resources manifestation (internal/external); localization of conditions for high achievement (internal — external).Basing on the analysis of the significance of differences, we outline the perspectives of using the construct to reveal gender specifics of self-perception of giftedness in older adolescents enrolled in gifted education programmes.

Abstract (sommario):
China is now one of the biggest online game markets, and the games are seen as both an economic opportunity and a social threat, especially to the young. I investigated the nature of, reasons for, and influences of online game quitting in China with 176 participants selected using deviant case sampling. I examined the relationships between the attitudes of those who were quitting playing toward online games, their perception of media portrayal of online games, family pressure, peer influence, functional alternatives, self-esteem, loneliness, online game quitting, and satisfaction with life after quitting. Results showed that the more negatively the participants felt about online games, the more likely they were to quit, and perception of peers' negative attitude toward online gaming, perception of alternatives, and lower income were significant predictors of online game quitting. These findings could help policy makers rethink healthy gaming and antiaddiction strategies.

Abstract (sommario):
The article discusses the results of a study of the level of development of the propensity to manipulate other people on the example of cadets of a departmental institution in order to establish differences in the characteristics of their relationship to themselves. The study was conducted on the basis of the Vologda Institute of Law and Economics of the Federal Penal Service of Russia. It was attended by 65 cadets of the 2nd and 3rd courses of the Faculty of Psychology. The methods used by V. V. Znakov “Questionnaire for Machiavellianism” and the method of studying self-replication by S. R. Pantileev were used. As a result of data analysis using mathematical statistics methods negative correlation relationships were established between the tendency to manipulation and closeness, self-management, the idea of the ability to arouse respect and sympathy in others, self-worth and self-reliance of cadets. Differences in the level of closeness, perception of other people’s attitudes towards themselves, self-attachment among students with different propensities for manipulation and significant differences on the “internal conflict” and “self-management” scales between students with low and medium propensity for manipulative behavior were also established. The findings suggest that a high propensity to manipulate is combined with self-doubt, low self-esteem, dissatisfaction with oneself, and perception of oneself as not worthy of the respect and sympathy of others. The results of the study emphasize the need to correct the propensity for manipulative behavior in order to change a person’s attitude to himself and other people. The data obtained can be used in the activities of practical psychologists.

Abstract (sommario):
This research examined self-perception and the perception of age groups by young and elderly adults from the perspective of social identity theory and social categorization theory. Respondents rated either themselves or unfamiliar stimulus persons from three age categories in adulthood: young, middle-aged, and elderly. As expected, an ingroup bias was found in the evaluation of elderly adults. Specifically, compared to ratings made by younger adults, older adults evaluated elderly persons more favorably. Moreover, as predicted, elderly adults' self-evaluations and those of young adults asked to imagine themselves as elderly were more positive than the ratings made by respondents who evaluated an unfamiliar older adult (e.g., elderly woman, elderly man). Both cognitive and motivational processes were discussed as contributing to the phenomenon of self-other discrepancy in beliefs about and attitudes toward older adults.

Abstract (sommario):
This study used recent advances in attitude and self-perception research to develop an Attitude to Non-Violence Scale (ANVS). Participants were students from six high schools in Australia ( N = 727). Confirmatory factor analysis using within-construct and between-construct validation approaches found two positive attitude sub-scales: Cognitive (proactive understanding) and Affective (do not endorse violence), both showing convergent and discriminant validity. Scale equivalence tests found that the sub-scales were applicable to boys and girls and to junior and senior grades. Structural equation modeling found that boys had less supportive attitudes to non-violence cognitively, whereas female students in senior secondary classes had less positive attitudes to non-violence affectively. The ANVS can be easily administered to assess youth’s non-violence attitudes, which may direct interventions focusing on boys’ cognitive aspects while maintaining girls’ positive affective attitudes toward non-violence as they mature. The positively framed instrument is suitable for education settings especially in high-risk locations where violence is prevalent.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper examines the most common types of self-destructive online behavior of adolescents and young people (self-harm, suicide, and eating disorders), which are reflected on the Internet in the form of self-destructive content. We present the results of the empirical study on the perception of and reactions to self-destructive content and content about psychological assistance by 15—17-year-old adolescents and 18—25-year-old youths. The yielded data confirms that adolescents and young people are active consumers of self-destructive online content. Based on the analysis of the role of gender, age differences, and differences in the use of the Internet in responding to the aforementioned types of self-destructive content, we marked out a risk group, represented by adolescents and young people who show increased attention to self-destructive online content, as well as those who use the Internet more intensively and are more often subjected to various types of violence in real life. We emphasize the importance of developing effective online prevention measures for self-destructive behavior in adolescents and young people, nurturing a digital culture of online behavior, and raising digital competence, allowing for the creation of a safe and comfortable online space.

Abstract (sommario):
This study was done to evaluate the perception of body image and psychosocial attitudes in a sample of 8 male adult subjects with growth-hormone deficit before and after six months of therapy. Before treatment the subjects tended to underestimate body size and were characterized by low self-esteem, a closed attitude towards social relationships, a pessimistic attitude with a tendency towards depression, and a strong sense of detachment from the outside world. After the treatment, even if the subjects continued to underestimate body size, we observed an improvement in terms of emotional control and well-being, accompanied by lower scores on anxiety. An integration of a psychological support in the GH therapy could help the patients to overcome problems of bodily and social acceptance.

Abstract (sommario):
We explored the effects of direction and frequency of social comparison on employees' work attitudes. Full-time employees (N = 403) of 23 different organizations from various industries completed a paper-and-pencil survey. We found that people with a low core self-evaluation and a high performance approach tended to engage in social comparison frequently in both work-related and work-unrelated dimensions, and that these people generally reported lower levels of job satisfaction being mediated by distributive justice than other people did. Further, the relationship between comparison frequency and work attitude was moderated by comparison direction. Our study contributes to the social comparison literature by revealing the interplay between comparison frequency and direction, which influences employees' work attitudes.

Abstract (sommario):
International cooperation projects aim to support populations in developing countries or affected by emergency situations and to promote their wellbeing in a coherent way and in line with the 10th Sustainable Development Goal and with the principles of the psychology of sustainability and sustainable development. This study analyzed the ways in which such projects influence two psychosocial variables, fatalism and self-efficacy, which are of great importance in determining the attitude of people to promoting change and improving their living conditions by themselves. The sample (N = 510) consists of adult users of Caritas Italiana projects in developing countries, namely, 161 individuals in Argentina, 123 in Bosnia, 96 in Sierra Leone, and 130 in Sri Lanka. The results indicate that the very fact of being involved in cooperation projects, both economic welfare and social promotion projects, favors a reduction in fatalistic attitudes and that greater perception of self-efficacy predicts a reduction in fatalism. Specific effects are presented in relation to the different cultures, and education levels of the countries analyzed.

Abstract (sommario):
Five factors affecting student use of an eLearning management system in two Web-enhanced hybrid undergraduate courses are investigated using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This research represents a causal relationship existing between students' attitude toward WebCT and their actual use of the system. Students' perception of the WebCT use, Computer Self-Efficacy, and Subjective Norms are also taken into account. Multigroup structural modeling procedure, specifically PROC CALIS, is used to extract those factors from student use of WebCT and to determine their interrelatedness among one another. Results show that extended adaptations of the Technology Acceptance Model are not as suitable for Engineering students as they are for Psychology students. Of the two competing models in the psychology class, Perceived Ease of Use is deemed an exogenous variable. A multi-sample analysis suggests that covariance structure differences between psychology and engineering students were found obvious over Computer Self-Efficacy and Subjective Norms variables. Lessons and experience from a southeastern metropolitan university in the United States are addressed.

A self-report survey of first-year college students ( n = 421; 46% female) included measures of perceived prototype, attitude and injunctive norm accessibility, past drinking behavior, and future drinking intention. Both norm accessibility and prototype perception were significant predictors of intention to drink in the future among first-year college students. The effect of prototypes on drinking diminished as pro-drinking norms became more accessible, indicating greater automaticity of drinking decision-making. Theoretical models of drinking intention should include both normative constructs and prototypes. Implications for interventions to reduce college student drinking are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
Technology-based small enterprises are an important component of regional economic development and scientific and technological innovation; their cooperative research and development (R&D) behavior of employees of these enterprises plays a significant role in promoting their innovation efficiency. With 351 valid samples collected from administrative staff members of enterprises in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Jiangsu, we conducted an empirical test, based on the theory of planned behavior. We performed correlation analysis and structural equation modeling and found a positive effect of behavioral attitude, subjective norm, self-efficacy, and perception of controllability of cooperative R&D on the cooperative R&D behavior in technologybased small enterprises. We concluded that cooperative R&D intention serves as an important mediating variable for these factors in generating enterprise behavior. The impact of perception of controllability on cooperative R&D behavior of the employees in technology-based small enterprises was nonsignificant, and selfefficacy directly engendered cooperative R&D behavior.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examined potential influences of childhood rehabilitation and over-normalization on coping with disability in adulthood. A total of 88 deaf and hard-of-hearing students were interviewed retrospectively about their childhood and completed self-report questionnaires assessing psychological environment-directedness and present emotional and behavioral coping with deafness. It was partially supported that over-normative parental attitude negatively affected coping with deafness through the mediation of elevated environment-directedness. Intensity of childhood rehabilitation was not found to affect adulthood coping with deafness. However, post-hoc analyses supported this mediation path when rehabilitation had been intensive yet not prolonged. Alleviating changes in the perception and practice of rehabilitation are suggested.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: We examined how college students manage ADHD medication and how beliefs regarding the medication and attitudes of friends and families influence adherence on weekdays and weekends during an academic semester. Method: Undergraduate students ( n = 53) responded to an online survey to report their adherence, their beliefs about the effects of the medication, and their perception of important others’ views of adherence. Results: Students chose to take more medication on weekdays than weekends. On weekdays, beliefs that the medications enhance academic performance and social skills influenced adherence, and on weekends, beliefs regarding negative side effects were important. The perception that medication leads to a loss of authentic self reduced adherence at both times. Generally, students believed that important others wanted them to take medication. Conclusion: Students were actively weighing the costs and benefits of taking their ADHD medication and consciously adjusting adherence levels from day to day.

Abstract (sommario):
The article summarizes scientific approaches to the problem of the meaning of life in different foreign and domestic psychology. The main ways and sources of meaning of a person's life are analyzed. Three groups of meaningful life values are singled out and described, due to which a person can make his life meaningful (values of creativity, values of experience, values of attitude). The basic patterns of the perception of the meaning of life are described during different age stages of personality: teenage, adolescence, adult age, old age. Particular attention was paid to psychological features in the perception of the meaning of life in teenage and adolescence, when there is an active development of self-awareness is taking place. It is the beginning of a conscious sense of being life defined. Socio-psychological factors, that influence the formation of life goals and value orientations of the individual in the process of ontogenesis are determined. There are critical periods in the perception of the meaning of life, namely: the stage of personality formation (teenage and adolescence), the crisis of mid-life and the crisis of old age. The tendencies of increasing and decreasing satisfaction of one's life are singled out and analyzed. The essence of the meaning of life problem of death is outlined.

The scale was administered to 2,546 subjects, 1,269 females and 1,277 males, aged 10 to 20 years. Composed of 10 items, the scale assesses an individual's perception of his physical ability and motor performance. The scale showed good reliability and discriminative capacity. From factor analysis, two factors linked to perceptions of physical efficiency and difficulties with movements emerged. Findings with this scale showed that higher scores on Perceived Physical Ability were reported for males than for females, and for subjects with sport experience than for subjects without. Further, high scores on Perceived Physical Ability tended to be associated with high scores on Self-perception, Confidence with own body, and Positive Attitude when facing motor tasks.

Abstract (sommario):
The study compared mindset beliefs, perfectionism, and achievement attitudes among gifted, advanced, and typical students in Grades 6 to 8 ( N = 416) and explored the relationship between these variables. Welch’s F tests revealed no statistically significant difference in growth or fixed mindset beliefs about intelligence among groups. Gifted and advanced students scored higher on Personal Standards (gifted, d = 0.68; advanced, d = 0.62) and Academic Self-Perception (gifted, d = 0.72; advanced, d = 0.58) compared with typical students. In hierarchical regression models, giftedness was a statistically significant predictor for Concern over Mistakes (β = 0.20) and Personal Standards (β = 0.27); both gifted (β = 0.31) and advanced (β = 0.17) status were statistically significant predictors for Academic Self-Perception. Various models showed a positive association between growth mindset and Positive Strivings Perfectionism and achievement attitudes and a positive association between fixed mindset and Evaluative Concerns Perfectionism. Findings suggest that gifted students are not more vulnerable to develop fixed mindsets.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper examines the perception of disability in relation to the disability status of a hypothetical person and that of the experimenter. Meyer, Gouvier, Duke, and Advokat (2001) found that participants had positive attitudes towards disability if the experimenter was disabled. This experiment moves the study of perceptions about disability into the realm of personality. Participants (N = 120) read a scenario in which the target person was either disabled or nondisabled while sessions were conducted by either a disabled or a nondisabled experimenter. They rated the target on the Big Five Personality Scale that involves a self-rating and an others-rating. The participants believed that others view disabled people less positively than they themselves do.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: A better understanding of relationships between adolescent depression and family functioning may help in devising ways to prevent development of depression and design effective therapeutic interventions. Aims: This study explored the relationship of parental emotional attitudes, (perceived criticism and expressed emotion) to adolescent self-evaluation and depression. Methods: A sample of 28 clinic-referred adolescents and their mothers participated. The Five Minute Speech Sample was used to measure parental expressed emotion, and the adolescents completed the Children's Depression Inventory, Self-Perception Profile for Children global self-worth scale, a self-criticism scale and a perceived parental criticism scale. Results: There was partial support for a model of adolescent negative self-evaluation as a mediator in the relationship between parental emotional attitudes and adolescent depressive symptoms. The data also supported an alternative hypothesis whereby adolescent depressive symptoms are related to negative self-evaluation. Conclusions: The overall pattern of results emphasizes the significance of adolescents' perceptions of parental criticism, rather than actual levels, in understanding the relationship between parental emotional attitudes and adolescent depressive symptoms.

Abstract (sommario):
Dating violence represents an important health problem among adolescents and young adults, not only because of its high prevalence but also because of its negative consequences for individual and social development. Educational programs aimed at the prevention and reduction of aggression are indispensable; therefore, the aims of this study were to assess perception and attitudes toward dating violence, and to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational workshop among college students. A total of 212 students from a public university in Mexico City participated in the study. The participants were distributed into two groups: the intervention group (IG; which received a workshop on dating violence) and the control group (CG; which did not participate in the workshop). A self-reported questionnaire was applied to assess students’ perception and attitudes toward violence. Means and standard deviations were calculated. In both groups, the comparison between pre- and post-evaluation scores was carried out using the test for matched pairs. The MANOVA test was performed for repeated measurements. The participants of the workshop showed positive changes in perception and attitudes toward dating violence, p < .0001; these changes were not observed in the CG, p = .98. Women in the IG showed a higher improvement than men, p = .04. Findings highlight the importance of creating long-term health promotion programs to improve human relationships, particularly in such important areas as dating violence.

Abstract (sommario):
Using the theory of planned behavior, we investigated the factors motivating residents' intention to take collective action by participating in not-in-my-backyard protests. We conducted a survey with 286 Chinese residents living near a waste-to-energy incineration plant. Results of structural equation modeling show that the personal factors of attitude, subjective norm, and self-efficacy positively affected intention to protest. Perceived group size (in-group factor) indirectly and directly affected intention, and social trust (out-group factor) indirectly affected intention through perceived environmental health risk. The effect of situation factors on intention was positive for perceived environmental health risk and negative for perceived action risk. Collective efficacy and perceived economic risk had no significant effect on intention. It is, therefore, important to promote social trust to decrease risk perception and to prevent protest when locating not-inmy-backyard facilities.

Abstract (sommario):
This study was designed to assess the differential value of several psychological variables with regard to predicting safe-sex behavior. A sample of 94 male and 179 female undergraduate students, ranging in age from 16 to 66 years, were surveyed about sexual issues related to safe-sex practices. The survey included scales measuring participants' knowledge of transmission of AIDS, self-perception of safe-sex communication, fear and concern about AIDS, attitudes toward AIDS victims, and self-report of risky behavior. Several interesting relationships among predictor variables were found. For instance, favorable attitudes toward AIDS victims were positively correlated with knowledge about AIDS transmission, perceived communication with partners about safe sex, and fear of acquiring AIDS. However, only two predictor variables were independently predictive of self-reports of risky sexual behavior; specifically, fear about AIDS transmission was positively correlated with risky behavior, while communication was negatively correlated with risky behavior. These data suggest a need for a model that allows for complex, reciprocal relationships between the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral components of safe-sex practice. Implications are applied to research with college populations.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe paper explores why certain adults are, or at least consider themselves to be, more ironic than others. The study looked at comprehension and application of irony compared to subjective affective evaluation of irony reported by Polish-speaking adults and with relation to nonverbal intelligence measured with the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised-Polish versions (WAIS-R(PL), 2004). Fifty-four subjects aged 20-66 years (28 females and 26 males) participated in Study 1 on subjective perception of irony. The comprehension, emotional valence and social functions of ironic meanings as well as the degree to which subjects perceived themselves as ironic were assessed through a self-report questionnaire. Inter-correlations were performed and related to the performance quotient (IQ) which was measured in Study 2, where 45 (24 females and 21 males) out of the 54 participants were tested with performance subtests of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised-Polish versions (WAIS-R(PL), 2004). The nonverbal intelligence scale was administered. Performance on nonverbal intelligence tests is not limited by language abilities and its analysis and can be considered important for future cultural comparative studies. Subjects who perceived themselves as ironic showed a higher nonverbal IQ in comparison to subjects who described themselves as non-ironic or barely ironic. The pragmatic qualities of irony were analyzed for their affective valuation and balanced for gender. Individual differences and gender effects in the perception of the social functions of ironic utterances were found. The paper describes the implicit emotional layer conveyed in irony and its importance in irony processing and comprehension.

Abstract (sommario):
Each of these rich essays is framed as the discussion of a specific emotion or emotional attitude—the “perception of emotional coldness” (Andrei Zorin), “fear” (Jan Plamper), “disgust” (OlgaMatich and Adi Kuntsman). But these authors offer us both much less and much more. Less, because individual emotions cannot really have their own history, independent of the kinds of self or emotional styles that emerge in given periods. More, because each essay opens u p to these broader, interdependent configurations of self and emotion, creating a window on a complex landscape of emotional change. Zorin's study of Andrei Turgenev provides a glimpse of the transition from an eighteenth- to an early nineteenth-century emotional regime. Plamper's examination of the emergence of military psychology traces the development of a late nineteenth-century social science of the “psyche.” Olga Matich explores the somatic anxieties of an early twentieth-century novelist, reminiscent of a whole strain of troubled and troubling early twentieth-century reflection. Adi Kuntsman probes the powerlessness of victims of Stalinist-era labor camps, whose sufferings resemble those of millions of others caught in modernist state projects aimed at administering mass emotions.

Abstract (sommario):
This research investigated the extent to which interpersonal and attitudinal factors affect the doctor-patient relationship. A questionnaire survey of people living in northeastern Kansas who had experience with medical care was conducted. Dependent measures were over-all patient satisfaction, patient's attitude toward death of self or others, causality orientation, attitude toward health and disease, and perception of the doctor-patient relationship. The majority of test subjects (92%) reported satisfaction with their medical care. A significant correlation between fear of death of significant others and scores on causality scales reflects feelings of not being in control of one's life. Other associations indicate that people who do not feel in control of their lives depend on traditional and folk remedies. Scores showing low fear of own death correlated significantly with the rated greater sense of responsibility for own health and treatment. Patients who rated themselves as more needy were unsatisfied with their care and those whose doctors called them by first name tended to be more content. Even in populations satisfied with their medical care, we suggest that the quality of care could be improved by attention to interpersonal and attitudinal factors.

Abstract (sommario):
The article presents theoretical generalization and offers new solutions to the problem of developing creative skills in preschoolers in painting classes, taking into account the postmodern tendencies which are becoming increasingly common in the post-Soviet countries. The relevance of the article lies in the need to reform today’s education system in the post-Soviet space and develop pedagogical technologies to enhance the effectiveness of preschool education and reveal the creative potential of each child in the context of the postmodernism and the latest achievements in psychology of creativity. The paper aims to develop and theoretically justify a technology for developing creative skills in preschoolers in painting classes in educational institutions for the postcolonial democracies on the example of Ukraine based on the analysis of relevant scientific sources and teaching placement. The article also substantiates the technology for developing creative skills in preschoolers in painting classes, which is defined as a model for organizing artistic and aesthetic activity of preschoolers aimed at expanding their cognitive experience and emotional perception of the world, as well as cultivating their aesthetic attitude to its objects and ensuring creative self-expression of each child. The article proves the validity of the open performative postmodernist approach, according to which playing activities, perception and enjoyment from creativity act as the main drivers of the creative activity of primary school children.

Abstract (sommario):
The effects of censored versus uncensored sexually explicit music on undergraduate students’ attitudes toward premarital sex, perception of peer sexual activity, and attitudes toward women were examined. Under the guise of a lyrical memory task, the experiment involved groups of participants who were randomly assigned to listen to an uncensored sexually explicit song, a censored version of the same song, a nonsexual song by the same artist, or no music. The lyrical content did not have a significant impact the participants’ self-reported sexual attitudes and perceptions of peer sexual activity. Additionally, the music (or lack of) did not significantly alter attitudes toward premarital sex, perceptions of peer sexual activity, or attitudes toward women. The nonsignificant difference between the sexually explicit songs and the nonsexual songs challenges the psychological and lay theories that exposure to sexually explicit music instigates attitudinal change.

Abstract (sommario):
The article analyzes the priority and opportunities of the child's formation as a subject of life-creation in the educational space of the New Ukrainian School. The fundamental ideas of the humanistic and existential psychology’s founders and modern scientists regarding the conscious and creative attitude of the individual to his life as a prerequisite for its self-actualization in the mode of being and the realization of freedom of life (A. Maslow, E. Fromm), the ideas of setting a life goal, determining meaningful life orientations and developing life personality strategy (K. Abulkhanova-Slavskaya, A. Adler, R. May, G. Allport, K. Rogers, V. Frankl), the ideas of individual readiness for life innovations in the process of self-projection (N. Samoukina, T. Titarenko) are analyzed. There were defined the life-creation methods of personality self-development as a subject of life (F. McGraw, A. Molloy, I. Pidlasa). It is shown that the priority of the psychological support of the educational process in the New Ukrainian School is the formation of students as subjects of life creation through the development of their ability to anticipate life, internality, optimistic perception of life prospects, stress resistance and motivation to achieve success. It was established that the fundamental ideas and modern approaches to the interpretation of the problem of formation of the individual as a subject of life-creation fully correspond to the conceptual priorities of the New Ukrainian School, which is designed to bridge the gap between the educational process and the requirements of society. It is revealed that the psychology of life-creation is a holistic scientific concept, which was formed on the fundamental ideas of humanistic and existential psychologists and is now actively developing within the psychology of personal life. There were defined the technologies and forms of work within the framework of psychological support of students in the educational space of the New Ukrainian School. These include: technology of life design, technology of organization of life-cognitive activity of students, psychological counseling and facilitation, training forms of psychological work, in particular, trainings of personal growth, trainings of self-determination and trainings of construction of life perspective.

Abstract (sommario):
The main goal of this research was to study the correlates of school underachievement and to sketch the possible profile of the gifted underachiever. The study was conducted on a sample of high school students in Belgrade (N = 434). The subjects were administered a battery of ability tests and asked to self-estimate their intelligence. On the basis of ability test and school achievement data, the subjects were classified into three groups: gifted underachievers (N1 = 26), gifted students (N2 = 81), and others (N3 = 332). The results of ANOVAs indicate that these three groups differ significantly on the dimensions of Attitudes towards school: academic self-perception, attitudes toward teachers, assessment goals, and motivation and self-regulation. Also, significant between-group differences emerge on the following dimensions of self-concept: assessment of ability, assessment of achievement, and academic self-confidence. These dimensions show the highest correlation with the canonical function that efficiently discriminates between underachievers and gifted students (canonical correlation coefficient = .70, performance of classification = 91.6%). Students who do not realize their potential in school, although they consider themselves to be equally intelligent as gifted students, do not draw their confidence and self-esteem from academic achievement. Gifted underachievers evaluate educational goals as less important and are not motivated to make an effort in school. Also, they are likely to come into conflict with teachers in order to challenge their authority. These results suggest that being an underachiever is a 'choice of will', rather than the unwilling result of difficulties in the environment, psychological problems or underdeveloped meta-cognitive skills, but an alternative interpretation is also plausible. The roots of this hypothetical choice are examined with reference to the educational system and its possible effects of 'normalization'.

Abstract (sommario):
We examined the effects of religiosity and the practices of religions among the Buddhists and Muslims aged 20 to 79 in Thailand on maintaining positive attitudes toward older people. Factor and multiple regression analyses are applied, using data from the 2011 National Survey on Conditions of Society and Culture. The measures of perception of older people are Social Value and Personal Value. Religiosity is measured by the self-assessment of religious strictness and one’s own practices according to the religious principles. Among Buddhists, the practices are measured by the frequency of praying, Takbat, Pancha Sila, and meditation. For Muslims, the practices are measured by the frequency of doing Salat, observing Saum, and giving Zakat. We found that religiosity and some practices of religions have positive effects on the perception of the value of older people. In addition, social policy for a smooth transition to an aging society should be considered alongside this religious mechanism.

Abstract (sommario):
The features of advertising psychology are investigated and the mechanism of its influence on consumer behavior is simulated in this paper. The basic models of perception of advertising information are considered and supplemented. Advertising has social, cultural, psychological impact on society, as it does not act as a manipulator of public consciousness, but contributes to the formation of relevant, aimed at self-development needs. It gives people knowledge, new experience, enriches their lives. Socio-psychological methods are widely used in advertising making it possible from a qualitative level to choose consumer characteristics of goods, to create the idea about this product consumers. While working on the advertisement production, it is necessary to take into account national trends in psychological theory: perception, memory, thinking, speech. This approach contributes to the creation of advertising product related to the desired image, expressing the right thoughts and is available to the audience for which it is created. In modern society, advertising technologies are widely used for the solution of various problems. We can speak a lot about the advertising psychology, as it directly participates in the formation of psychological attitudes, motivations, images. In order to investigated the effect of advertising message, the psychological mechanisms of the perception process are simulated. This includes the following components: stimulus, attention, interpretation and cognition. Psychological aspects of the process of advertising appeal perception explain how advertising informs and convinces. If we draw a parallel between the goal of the advertiser and the goal of the consumer, then using psychological approach, we get a conformity that takes into account advertising models. Advertising should be based on various advertising models that take into account consumer psychology, because the result achieved by advertising depends directly on the degree of psychological effectiveness of its impact, as the creation of advertising products should contribute to the harmonious development of society, national culture, education of future generations on own spiritual and cultural values, to form the priorities of their own state. In addition to simple advertising principles, there are a lot of more precise mechanisms of advertising effect, based on knowledge of psychology. Simulation of advertising communication processes makes it possible to demonstrate clearly the multi-stage nature of this process, which requires certain assessments for the determination of the effectiveness of advertising impact on consumer behavior. It is noted in this paper that simulation makes it possible to demonstrate clearly the multi-stage process of perception, to build a certain analogue that reflects the real situation and provide necessary information. Modern advertising tries to create conditions for the conscious perception of the buyer's advertising appeal and automatic purchase, ensuring sustainable buying process. All these processes of advertising perception and understanding are processes caused by certain psychological characteristics of advertising appeal consumers, i.e. those people for whom this advertising is intended. Definitely the knowledge of these psychological characteristics and the laws governing them should be the basis for advertising.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to integrate extant literature on psychological dimensions and trust to develop a model of consumer e-loyalty. Design/methodology/approach – This paper develops four important psychological-based factors impacting consumer trust and e-loyalty: perception-based, experience-based, knowledge-based and attitude. Findings – The results of this paper propose that perception-based and experience-based factors are the main determinants of consumer trust and e-loyalty in e-retailing. Consumers do consider information practices. Research limitations/implications – This paper has attempted to shed some light on the psychological antecedents of consumer trust in e-retailing but still missed some important antecedents for example personality. An option for “not applicable” as an answer choice was not provided in the survey instrument. It is hard for a participant to provide accurate information about his/her past experience that happened three months ago in a self-reported method. Practical implications – From a theoretical perspective, the psychological-based consumer trust decision-making model provides a holistic view of an online consumer’s purchase decision-making process and e-loyalty. From a practical standpoint, the paper identified a number of potentially important psychology determinants of consumers’ trust in a website and empirical evidence concerning the relative impact of each of these determinants on consumers’ trust and e-loyalty. Originality/value – To date, this is the first research that has been conducted to analyse psychological dimensions of trust in e-retailers and its influence on e-loyalty by using partial least squares in Saudi Arabia e-commerce research.

Abstract (sommario):
The amount of time high school students spend on homework is predictive of achievement, grades, and even dropping out of school. This study, based on a sample of 95 high school students, identified a group who spent zero time on homework and other students for comparison on measures of school performance and personal adjustment. The zero-time homework students were more often male, older, presented less favorable school attitudes, lower grades, more frequent discipline and conduct problems, less satisfactory close friendships, and a more external locus of control (Intellectual Achievement Responsibility Questionnaire). The groups did not differ, however, on socioeconomic status, history of repeating grades, educational expectations, and 7 of 9 scales of a measure of self-esteem (Self-perception Profile for Adolescents). It is concluded that the time a student spends on homework, at the low end, is a useful indication of the student's school adjustment, but not necessarily related to the student's out-of-school personal adjustment.
