Testo completoA floristic and phytosociological study was carried out in a remnant of natural subtropical grassland in southern Brazil, which was in good state of conservation and very rich in species, excluded from grazing, but periodically submitted to burning events. Currently, it is recognized that regional grasslands formations are being gradually replaced by tropical forests due to a warm and humid climate, processes reduced by disturbs like burn and grazing. The study lasted from April 2005 to March 2010, cataloging 497 species of native angiosperms. A classification for vegetation was made in situ through the identification of four principal communities: dry grassland, rocky grassland, humid grassland and wetlands. New occurrences for southern Brazil were recorded and a new species for science was found (Alstroemeria albescens). In the phytosociological survey, the frequency and coverage of 177 species were measured and compared along the four communities described and in five relief compartments. Multivariate analyses and floristic similarity (Jaccard indexes) were realized. Structural vegetation patterns were determined based on evaluation of data of growth forms, life forms and the presence of underground organs of every species. Stratification and diversity patterns of vegetation have been described associated with environmental factors and the influence of the use of fire on vegetation. Waterlogging level was, possibly, the main factor that conditions species distribution patterns in the local, influenced by other factors like relief and soils. A new classification for vegetation was proposed, made after data analyses, recognizing six communities of grasslands, four of them considered as core areas (xerophilous, mesophilous, hygrophilous and hidrophilous grasslands) and two as transitional areas (meso-xerophilous and mesohigrophilous grasslands). Rhizomateous geophytes and caespitose graminoids hemicryptophytes obtained the highest importance values indicating dominance of species with greater tolerance to overcome burning events. However, the periodic use of fire allows the development of rare species of lower competitive ability by the periodic removal of dominant tussock grasses. We observed the existence of a floristic similarity between the grassland vegetation present in the granitic hills of the region due to a sharing of the main dominant species, inferring that the patterns described are recurrent in other locations. Studies on the frequency of use of fire are scarce in the southern Brazil subtropical grasslands and are required to better understand their effects on this vegetation. The scarcity of classification studies in local scale is indicated as a gap in the better understanding of grassland organization patterns. The monitoring of natural conversion of grasslands into forests in areas excluded from disturbs may be used as a potential bioindicator of the effects caused by climate changes in global scale. Despite the significant vegetation diversity of the grasslands studied, their representation in conservation units is virtually inexistent in the municipality.

Tuberculosis remains a serious public health problem worldwide and poses serious challenges for its control. Everywhere, efforts have been made in order to generate strategies that take into account the characteristics of specific populations in order to help its control.. The object of this paper is to study the epidemiological profile of the reported cases in the MTB ambulatory of the Parthenon Sanatorium Hospital, in Porto Alegre, Southern Brazil, in the period 2007 - 2008, covering demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, clinical and laboratorial aspects. To reach our objective, we carried out a descriptive and retrospective investigation on the information contained in the records of patients treated for tuberculosis at the hospital. The results show the higher proportion of men of working age, being treated at the hospital. The impact of alcohol and / or illicit drugs, the reincidence, and co-infection of HIV / AIDS in the outcome of tuberculosis treatment, is discussed. We highlight the need for wide-ranging strategies, with the participation of other decision-makers in the political, economic and socieal spheres in order to reduce the circumstances that generate vulnerability.

Testo completoThe environmental problems associated to human agglomeration in metropolitan areas are presented in the Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region. Especially in this area, in the absence of a broad and effective collection and treatment system, the production of domestic, industrial and agricultural wastes, overcome the assimilation capacity of the environment. The water resources, as Lake Guaiba, are used at the same time as body receptor of wastewater and source of drinking water to public supply. In order to provide additional information to water management, studies of water and sediment hydrogeochemistry and stable isotope content of zinc and lead on the suspended particulate matter from three hydrographic sub-basins. The choice of these sub-areas was based on the Porto Alegre’s “Master Plan for Urban and Environmental Development”, where was presented three classes of occupation and land use. In this research, each class is represented by a hydrographic sub-basin: High Density - Passo das Pedras Creek; Medium Density - Cavalhada Creek; and Low Density - Lami Creek. The comparison between the hydrogeochemistry of these sub-areas and the Guaiba Hydrographic Basin was conducted by the lead isotope analysis of the reference samples, collected in the Lake Guaiba and the Gravatai and Jacui river mouths, the latter, the main affluent. The physic-chemical data shows that the types of urban landscape govern the chemical composition of wastewater thrown along the drainage of a certain watershed. On the other hand, the isotopic data prove that the lead and zinc anthropogenic contribution is a minor factor. Nevertheless, the isotopic analysis corroborated the classification proposed on the Master Plan, allowing discrimination between samples from the three urban creeks those used as regional reference.

Testo completoUrban green areas can offer opportunity for interactions between reservoirs and vectors of urban and wild environments, increasing the risk of disease transition and changes in their epidemiological profile. The understanding of how changes in the landscape affect the composition of culicid fauna and which vector species occur in these areas may help and prediction the spatial distribution of the species along urbanized areas, providing important tools to control endemic disease. This study aimed to verify the occurrence of mosquito vector species and to evaluate the relationship between different types of land cover and land use with the composition of Culicidae fauna. Sampling occurred biweekly, from October 2012 to March 2013, where oviposition traps were installed in eight green areas with different landscape traits, in Porto Alegre, Southern Brazil. 4179 mosquitoes belonging to et least ten species were sampled. Aedes albopictus and Limatus durhami were eudominants/dominant representing together 90% of total individuals. This is the first report of Sabethes albiprivus and Li. durhami occurrence in Porto Alegre. The mosquitos species responded differently to types of land use cover and land use, indicating that the most obvious affinities are maintained in three scales evaluated. The relative abundance of Ae. albopictus was related to the more urbanized green area, while the abundance of Li. durhami , Haemagogus leucocelaenus and Toxorhynchites sp., was related to the presence of preserved areas. The occurrence of Aedes aegypti was not influenced by land use and land cover. Three species related to dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever transmission were sampled, Ae. albopictus, Hg. leucocelaenus and Ae. aegypti. We also verified the simultaneous occurrence of these species, which may represent an opportunity of changes in the epidemiologic of these diseases.

The work entitled ´Juridical Relation between Travel Agencies and Tourists-consumers - Problems and Conflicts in Porto Alegre/RS` concerns the juridical relations between travel agencies (provider of tourism services) and tourists (consumer). This study begins with an evolutionary synthesis of tourism-related laws, giving greater importance to those regarding travel agencies and to the ones applicable in the current legal system. Next, it examines the Juridical Relations and Tourism, in two sections. The first refers to the parties involved in this relation, that is, the travel agency and the tourist. The second studies the juridical relation between travel agencies and tourists, its characteristics and consequences, in general aspects of contracts, electronic contracts and accessory obligations. After this theoretical study, a field research was conducted in the Central Civil Court of Porto Alegre. This research allowed a general description of lawsuits including travel agencies as one of the parties, to then establish which disputes include travel agencies and tourists-consumers. With this study it was possible to analyze the existing problems in this relation and also to develop measures to minimize these conflicts.
