Abstract (sommario):

Crude petroleum ether and methanol extracts of different parts of five medicinal plants collected from Terai region, namely, Asparagus racemosus, Catharanthus roseus, Hedychium coronarium, Mimosa pudica and Terminalia chebula were examined for their antimicrobial activity against different pathogenic microorganisms, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsella spp., Salmonella paratyphi, Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium spp. and Penicillium spp. From the obtained growth curves of methanol extract of Terminalia chebula and petroleum ether and methanol extracts of Hedychium coronarium, it can be said these extracts have relatively high bacteriostatic property than other plant extracts. Similarly, the zone of inhibitions observed during antifungal assay by methanol extract of Terminalia chebula against Aspergillus niger, Fusarium spp. and Penicillium spp. are comparable to that of Itraconazole (antifungal drug). It shows that Terminalia chebula has fungistatic property. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids and glycosides. Abstract (sommario):

Two holarctically distributed species groups of Sepedon, S. fuscipennis (5 spp.) and spinipes (2 spp.) are reviewed. The diagnostic characters of all species are compared and the distinguishing structures of the male terminalia are illustrated. The Palaearctic Sepedon hecate sp. nov. is described and compared with the Nearctic species of the S. fuscipennis group. The new species is distributed mainly in the East Palaearctic but apparently penetrates to Central Europe. A detailed study of the male terminalia of the Palaearctic S. spinipes spinipes (Scopoli, 1763) and the Nearctic S. spinipes americana Steyskal, 1951 shows that the Nearctic taxon actually represents a well distinguished species, S. americana Steyskal, 1951, stat. nov.

Abstract (sommario):

Our study developed a HPTLC fingerprint profile of alkaloids and glycosides obtained from the methanol extracts of four different plant parts of Terminalia arjuna, T. bellerica and T. chebula, trees with cardio-protective values. The multiple qualitative phytochemical analyses of water, acetone, petroleum ether and methanol extracts from all the plant parts of Terminalia spp. detected the presence of alkaloids and glycosides, wherein the methanol extracts exhibited the presence of maximum alkaloids and glycosides. The chromatographic analysis of methanol extracts was carried out on silica gel 60F254HPTLC aluminium sheets with CAMAG Linomat 5 applicator. The plates were developed using ethyl acetate:toluene:formic acid (10:10:1; v/v/v) mobile phase. Alkaloids and glycosides were detected at 254 nm, 366 nm and 540 nm (after derivatization). These developed fingerprints would eventually be of great benefit in identifying or differentiating the alkaloids and glycosides in the form of marker compounds in the three Terminalia spp. mentioned.

Resumo Aqui se apresenta a Flora de Combretaceae do Rio Grande do Norte, Nordeste do Brasil, com base na análise comparativa dos caracteres morfológicos de espécimes depositados nos herbários ASE, EAC, FUEL, HEPH, HST, HUEFS, IPA, JPB, MAC, MBM, MOSS, NY, UEC e UFRN, bibliografias especializadas e fotos de coleções-tipo. Para o Rio Grande do Norte são registradas 12 espécies em cinco gêneros: Buchenavia (1 sp.), Combretum (7 spp.), Conocarpus (1 sp.), Laguncularia (1 sp.) e Terminalia (2 spp.). Combretum duarteanum Cambess., C. fruticosum, T. mameluco são novos registros para o estado e Terminalia cf. amazonia poderá ser confirmada como tal, a partir de coleta de espécimes completos. Chaves de identificação para gêneros e espécies, descrições, dados de distribuição geográfica, comentários taxonômicos e ilustrações das espécies são fornecidos.

Abstract (sommario):

Objective: Endophytic fungi live inside the higher plants, apparently without causing any harm to the hosts and its produce the secondary metabolites are potential antimicrobial activity. Terminalia chebula has been used in Ayurveda, Unani & Homeopathy medicine. In this study an isolate and identify the endophytic fungi from T. Chebula collected from pachamalai hills of the Eastern Ghats, Tamilnadu.Methods: The plant materials were taken and first rinsed in running tap water to remove the dust and the other debris present in it. Segments of approximately 0.5 cm were cut in sterile lancet blades and surface sterilized by agitating in 70% ethanol (5s), followed by treatment with 4% NaOCl (90s) and then rinsed in sterile distilled water (10s).Thirty six (leaf, stem and fruit samples) segments from T.chebula plant are processed for the isolation of endophytic fungi.Results: About 36 segments (12 segments of each part respectively) of the medicinal plant were screened for the isolation of the endophytic fungi. A total of 27 endophytic fungi was isolated and identified from medicinal plant T.chebula. The leaf segments showed a maximum repository for endophytic fungi than the other segments. Among the 27 endophytic fungi, the predominant endophytic fungi isolated belonged to the genera of Alternaria longipes, Curvularia spp, Mucor, phoma spp, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus and Penicillium spp. In this study majority of the fungi belonged to hyaline hyphomycetes.Conclusion: In this study conclude that the isolation of endophytic fungi from medicinal plant of terminalia chebula. To isolate the 27 endophytic fungi produce the novel bioactive compound. However Further studies are required to screen these endophytic fungi for production of novel Bioactive compounds. Abstract (sommario):

This work presents a novel Peer to Peer (P2P) framework for Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) on Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET). SIP is a client-server model of computing which can introduce a single point of failure problem. P2P SIP addresses this problem by using a distributed implementation based on a P2P paradigm. However, both the traditional SIP and P2P SIP architectures are not suitable for MANETs because they are initially designed for infrastructured networks whose most nodes are static. We focus on distributed P2P resource lookup mechanisms for SIP which can tolerate failures resulting from the node mobility. Our target application is SIP-based multimedia communication in a rapidly deployable disaster emergency network. To achieve our goal, we provide four contributions as follows. The first contribution is a novel P2P lookup architecture based on a concept of P2P overlay network called a Structured Mesh Overlay Network (SMON). This overlay network enables P2P applications to perform fast resource lookups in the MANET environment. SMON utilizes a cross layer design based on the Distributed Hashing Table (DHT) and has direct access to OLSR routing information. Its cross layer design allows optimizing the overlay network performance during the change of network topology. The second contribution is a distributed SIP architecture on MANET providing SIP user location discovery in a P2P manner which tolerates single-point and multiple-point of failures. Our approach extends the traditional SIP user location discovery by utilizing DHT in SMON to distribute SIP object identifiers over SMON. It offers a constant time on SIP user discovery which results in a fast call setup time between two MANET users. From simulation and experiment results, we find that SIPMON provides the lowest call setup delay when compared to the existing broadcast-based approaches. The third contribution is an extended SIPMON supporting several participating MANETs connected to Internet. This extension (SIPMON+) provides seamless mobility support allowing a SIP user to roam from an ad hoc network to an infrastructured network such as Internet without interrupting an ongoing session. We propose a novel OLSR Overlay Network (OON), a single overlay network containing MANET nodes and some nodes on the Internet. These nodes can communicate using the same OLSR routing protocol. Therefore, SIPMON can be automatically extended without modifying SIPMON internal operations. Through our test-bed experiments, we prove that SIPMON+ has better performance in terms of call setup delay and handoff delay than MANET for Network Mobility (MANEMO). The fourth contribution is a proof-of-concept and a prototype of P2P multimedia communication based on SIPMON+ for post disaster recovery missions. We evaluate our prototype and MANEMO-based approaches through experimentation in real disaster situations (Vehicle to Infrastructure scenarios). We found that our prototype outperforms MANEMO-based approaches in terms of call setup delay, packet loss, and deployment time.

Abstract (sommario):

Ce travail de thèse s'intéresse à la conférence audio en Voix sur IP et plus précisément à son enrichissement au travers de l'amélioration de la qualité (bande élargie et traitement d'amélioration) et de la spatialisation sonore. Cette évolution de la conférence audio sera examinée à la lumière des architectures centralisée et distribuée de la conférence sur IP standard. L'objectif est d'étudier des solutions en termes d'architecture intégrant la spatialisation et des extensions pour gérer et contrôler cette spatialisation. Il conviendra aussi d'effectuer les tests montrant les qualités audio et de spatialisation résultantes. Notre première contribution a été de proposer des architectures permettant d'allier la conférence audio en voix sur IP, les méthodes de spatialisation retenues, les terminaux ou pont de conférence ainsi que les traitements d'améliorations connus (annulation d'écho ou de bruit, etc.). Nous avons montré qu'il semblait difficile par exemple d'utiliser conjointement la spatialisation et la commutation de flux. Par contre la solution utilisant un pont mixeur ne présentait pas d'inconvénient pour inclure la spatialisation tout en conservant l'ensemble des traitements de qualité. Par cette configuration, nous garantissons en plus l'interopérabilité avec les réseaux voix existants. Les solutions distribuées sont tout autant réalisables dans la théorie mais pâtissent actuellement des limites des terminaux. Pour une interopérabilité avec les autres réseaux voix, il est en plus nécessaire d'avoir une entité de mixage pour créer un contenu monophonique. Par la suite, nous avons souligné les avantages et les inconvénients de l'utilisation de pont de conférence de type mixeur et de type répliquant pour proposer une solution de pont mixte. Cette solution fonctionne tantôt en mode répliquant, tantôt en mode mixeur suivant les capacités des terminaux. Par ailleurs, nous avons validé une méthode de réduction de la bande passante d'un pont répliquant vers un terminal, basée sur le masquage auditif. La seconde contribution de nos travaux consiste en de nouvelles solutions protocolaires adaptées à la gestion et au contrôle de la spatialisation. Nous avons donc défini les extensions nécessaires à la gestion et au transport du son spatialisé. Nous avons tout d'abord défini les spécifications permettant de commander un positionnement de locuteurs dans une conférence audio spatialisée. Nous avons cherché à présenter toutes les solutions possibles pour les gestions automatique ou manuelle. Dans le cas de la spatialisation sur un pont de conférence, nous avons ainsi souligné le fait que cette gestion ne pouvait se faire par l'intermédiaire du protocole SIP, car ce n'est pas le rôle de ce dernier de transporter dans ses messages des informations sur les contenus ou des commandes de spatialisation. Nous avons proposé une solution basée sur ce qui se fait dans les conférences audio standard : une solution de web-pilotage certes propriétaire à chaque fournisseur de services mais en cohérence avec la gestion des protocoles de Voix sur IP. Pour la conférence avec un pont mixeur, nous avons établi les paramètres du protocole de signalisation SIP nécessaires au transport de flux asymétriques tout en garantissant une interopérabilité avec les terminaux existants. La nécessité de transporter ces flux asymétriques est due à notre hypothèse de départ concernant l'équipement des terminaux : prise de son monophonique et restitution sur casque ou deux haut-parleurs. Notre troisième contribution s'exprime au travers d'une campagne de tests pour valider nos solutions en termes de qualité audio et de qualité de spatialisation. Ces tests nous ont amené à définir des nouveaux protocoles adaptés à ces architectures audio spatialisées. Nous justifions dans un premier temps nos choix de codeurs et dans un second temps nos choix de tests. Nous avons montré dans un premier temps que les codeurs n'étaient pas perçus de la même façon suivant que l'on écoute en écoute monaurale ou en écoute diotique. Il ressort de ces tests que les codeurs G.711 (PCM) et G.722 (ADPCM) sont les plus adaptés à la conférence audio centralisée avec une qualité jugée nettement supérieure aux codeurs CELP. Ces deux codeurs sont de plus de faible complexité, robustes au transcodage, à la perte de trames, au transport de contenu binaural et au transport de contenus multi-locuteur. Quant aux codeurs CELP, ils sont à utiliser uniquement lorsque les contraintes de débit sont fortes. Concernant la conférence audio distribuée wideband, les codeurs AMR-WB à 23.85 kbits/s, G.729.1 à 32 kbits/s et G.722 à 64 kbits/s semblent les plus adaptés quelle que soit la perte de trames. Ils ont une qualité jugée équivalente. En narrowband, les codeurs G.711, AMR à 12.2 kbits/s et G.729.1 à 12 kbits/s obtiennent les meilleures notes de qualité, quelle que soit la perte de trames. Au final, dans tous les cas distribués, le choix du codeur dépendra des contraintes de l'application suivant un compromis complexité/débit.

This thesis is devoted to reveal the negative regulators in IGF-1 (Insulin like growth factor 1) stimulated growth of a human breast adenocarcinoma cell line. It is a well established fact that increased circulating levels of IGF-1 correlate with increased risk of breast cancer. IGF-1 activation of its receptor, IGF-1R, is implicated in the progression of breast cancer, where IGF-1 stimulation leads to proliferative and anti-apoptotic responses by stimulating MAPK Erk and PI3K, respectively. In this study, IGF-1 stimulated MCF-7 cells proliferated more in the absence of MAPK JNK, implicating the involvement of MAPK JNK in the negative regulation of IGF-1 stimulated cell growth. In this research study, we show for the first time that IGF-1 stimulation of breast cancer cells induces SHP-1-expression by activating JNK, which in turn, activates RFX-1 and AP-4 transcription factors to allow them to bind to the high-expression region of the SHP-1 P-1 promoter in breast adenocarcinoma MCF-7 cells. Le marché des radiocommunications de proximité évolue entre autres vers des applications soit à très basse consommation, soit à très haut débit. Bénéficiant d'une largeur de bande instantanée au moins cent fois plus grande que celle des systèmes large bande actuels, la technologie ultra large bande (ULB) se positionne naturellement sur ces deux créneaux. L'objectif de cette thèse est d'améliorer la compréhension et la performance des antennes ULB fonctionnant sur plusieurs gigahertz tout en répondant aux contraintes spécifiques des applications grand public. Dans un premier temps, la réduction de l'encombrement et du coût des antennes est le point de mire du travail de conception. Cependant ces réductions vont en général de pair avec une dégradation des performances qu'il faut pouvoir quantifier. Pour caractériser la performance de l'antenne sur une telle bande, les outils usuels (gain, phase) dans le domaine fréquentiel sont peu adaptés. Particulièrement pertinent pour le mode impulsionnel, des descripteurs temporels sont donc introduits. Entre autres, la distorsion de la forme d'onde rayonnée par l'antenne est étudiée. Elle permet d'analyser et de quantifier l'influence sur la qualité de la liaison, d'un comportement d'antenne variant en fonction de la fréquence. Dans un second temps, la distorsion qu'apporte l'antenne est mise en regard de celle apportée par les autres éléments de la chaîne de communication. Goal of this thesis is to describe the warehouse management systems with focus on the engineering solution, software development and innovation. The evolution of warehouse management systems is very similar to that of many other software solutions. Initially a system to control movement and storage of materials within a warehouse, the role of WMS is expanding to including light manufacturing, transportation management, order management, and complete accounting systems. General point of view of this thesis is suggest the method how to implement modular (standard) solution on the premises. Project is specialized on PDA terminals and wireless access points settings. Introductory chapter of thesis offer extensive background, which reach out reader with system SAP and logistics processes. Practical part of project can divided to two parts. First one analyze software and develop system in cooperation with supplier and ITC department of ABB corporation. Follow part describe reports and dynamic programmes in programming language ABAP with a view to adoption architecture of system SAP. In fine author intend about future development of modern technology in ABB corporation and potential development of object identification method.

Abstract (sommario):

Fungal diseases of trees are serious impediments to forest expansion and productivity. While the adverse effects of diseases of non-native plantation forest trees are increasingly recognized in Africa, the health of native trees has been virtually ignored. This is especially acute as many commercially propagated trees are related to native woody plants and recurrent movement of pathogens between native and non-native trees is increasingly being recorded. The genus Terminalia accommodates important indigenous tree species in Africa that provide a variety of valuable wood and non-wood products. Despite the importance of Terminalia spp., very little information has been recorded on their health problems. Research for this dissertation aimed at studying some of the fungal diseases of native and non-native Terminalia species in Africa. Special reference was provided to fungi in the Botryosphaeriaceae, a group of pathogens that infect host plants without always producing clear symptoms. A literature review, presented in Chapter One, highlighted the limited information available on the pathogens and pests associated with these trees. Most disease reports include minimal detail. Often the causal agents had been identified based only on morphology and were not classified to the species level. Studies performed in chapter two compared the assemblages of endophytic species of the Botryosphaeriaceae from T. catappa in Cameroon, South Africa and Madagascar. Five species were identified and two of these are new to science and provided with the names N. batangarum and L. mahajangana. The assemblage of the Botryosphaeriaceae varied from one country to another, however, colonization patterns in the three areas were similar. Greenhouse inoculation trials performed on young T. catappa trees showed variation among isolates tested, with L. pseudotheobromae being the most pathogenic. Chapter three represents the first investigation of the Botryosphaeriaceae on native Terminalia trees in Cameroon and Africa. Morphological and DNA sequence data were used to identify these species as L. theobromae, L. pseudotheobromae, L. parva and E. endophytica. Pathogenicity trials performed on young T. mantaly and T. catappa trees revealed that L. pseudotheobromae was the most virulent species. In chapter four, species of Botryosphaeriaceae on native Terminalia spp. in Southern Africa were studied. Nine species were identified from T. sericea and T. sambesiaca. Seven of these, L. crassispora, L. pseudotheobromae, D. alatafructa, P. olivaceum, N. parvum, N. kwambonambiense and N. vitifusiforme represented previously described species and two, L. cryptotheobromae and N. terminaliae, were described as new. The genetic analyses of populations of L. theobromae and L. pseudotheobromae presented in chapter five showed clear genetic divergence between L. theobromae and L. pseudotheobromae supporting their distinction as separate species. Both L. theobromae and L. pseudotheobromae populations possessed high gene diversity, moderate degrees of genotypic diversity, and high levels of gene flow between isolates from T. cacao and Terminalia spp. Both sexual and asexual modes of reproduction were found. The last chapter of this dissertation presents the description of a new genus in the Cryphonectriaceae, Aurifilum marmelostoma, using a combination of molecular and morphological tools. This fungus is the second genus in this family described from Terminalia spp. Pathogenicity tests conducted to assess its ability to cause disease revealed that the fungus is a possible pathogen of this tree. An extensive number of potentially pathogenic fungi, including five new species were found associated with native and non-native Terminalia spp. in Africa. As some of these fungal species could serve as sources of inoculum onto economically important crops, research presented in this dissertation provides a foundation for understanding health issues affecting Terminalia and related genera in selected regions in Africa. Ayurveda is an age old system of medicine which utilizes thousands of medicinal plants, rich in secondary metabolites for their therapeutic benefits and phenolic compounds are important one. Plant phenolic compounds are one of the major group of phytomolecules having tremendous therapeutic and nutraceutical potential. Indian medicinal plants like Emblica, Terminalia spp., Withania, Tinospora etc. are some of the potential source of bioactive phenolics and had been used from ages in various Ayurvedic formulations and were scientifically validated too. In this contribution, a brief account of some common Indian medicinal plants rich in bioactive phenolics are summarized along with their therapeutic action on human health and disease. The vast array of phenolics in these plants makes them a suitable candidate for modern medicine, nutraceutical supplements, immuno-modulatory formulations etc. With the advent of modern separation tools and techniques, it is now possible to identify, isolate and purify desired phytoconstituents from plant extracts. This further opens the avenues of utilizing medicinal plants or plant constituents/metabolites as super food for strengthening the body and maintaining the healthy work-life balance. The need of the hour is to identify therapeutically potential phenolics rich plants and development of herbal formulations for human welfare.

In mobile computing environments; the goal is to provide continuous connectivity as a mobile host moves from one network to another – often referred to as terminal mobility. All the needed reconnection occurs automatically and non-interactively (Handley at al.; 1999). Terminal mobility can be achieved by exploiting mobile IP (Perkins; 1998) to provide mobile users the convenience of seamless roaming. Another major requirement for full mobility support is the need of an architecture that enables automatic discovery of the user location which changes with mobility of the user – a feature often referred as personal mobility. New application-layer protocols such as SIP (Handley et al.; 1999) can be used to provide this personal mobility.

Heterogeneous networks have attracted a lot of interest due to its support provision for a large number of networks at an effective cost. Mobility Management also plays an important role in the heterogeneous network in providing a seamless mobility support for both devices and users, which poses a serious challenge. In this chapter, the researchers propose SIP-PMIP Cross-Layer Mobility Management in order to provide a seamless mobility in heterogeneous wireless networks. In effect, the researchers design a Cross-Layer Mobility Management Scheme, which can handle terminal, network, personal and session mobility. To demonstrate, video conferencing is included in the modeling, simulation and implementation of the module using Riverbed Modeler.

Successfully gene editing (GE) in Prunus spp. has been delayed due to its woody nature presenting additional difficulties in both, proper regeneration protocols and designing efficient gene transfer techniques. The availability of adequate, single cell culture techniques for GE such as protoplast regeneration, is a limiting step for the genus and for this reason, the improvement of regular regeneration protocols and finding more efficient techniques for the delivery of the “editing reagents” seem to be a reasonable strategy to incorporate GE in the genus. During the last 10 years, we have focused our efforts optimizing some previous regeneration and gene transfer procedures for Japanese plum (P. salicina), sweet cherry (P. avium) and peach (P. persica) to incorporate them into a GE technology on these species. In parallel, delivery techniques for the CRISPR/Cas9 editing components, i.e., guide RNA (gRNA) and Cas9, have been developed with the aim of improving gene targeting efficiencies. In that line, using DNA virus-based replicons provides a significant improvement, as their replicational release from their carriers enables their enhanced expression. Here, we make a brief overview of the tissue culture and regeneration protocols we have developed for P. salicina, P. avium and P. persica, and then we proceed to describe the use of Bean yellow dwarf virus (BeYDV)-derived replicon vectors to express the editing reagents in vivo and to evaluate their editing capability on individuals derived from Agrobacterium-mediated gene transfer experiments of these species. We show part of our characterization assays using new BeYDV-derived vectors harboring multiple gRNAs, the Cas9 gene, and the green fluorescent protein reporter gene. We also describe a dedicated genome analysis tool, by which gRNA pairs can be designed to address gene deletions of the target genes and to predict off-target sequences. Finally, as an example, we show the general results describing GE of the peach TERMINAL FLOWER 1 gene and some preliminary characterizations of these materials.

The oil and gas industry has three major segments: upstream, midstream and downstream. Upstream is frequently referred to as exploration & production. The midstream segment involves transportation, storage and marketing of oil and gas products. Transportation options may vary from small connector pipelines to massive cargo vessels covering trans-ocean routes. Most oil types may be transported in their original condition, while natural gas needs to be either compressed or liquefied for transmission. Storage helps to balance fluctuations between supply and demand of energy products. Downstream covers the refining and processing of hydrocarbons into usable products. Each segment has facilities to support one or various processes. Terminals include pipeline, rail, trucks and cargo transmission which imply a complex model to cover the whole facility to evaluate risk and reliability with all processes and functions involved. Before addressing the logistics of each midstream component the reliability of the involved assets needs to be evaluated. First to be considered is terminal location with respect to upstream and downstream. Onshore and maritime terminals have several components in common and two main processes may coexist (storage and distribution). All terminal components represent circuits with a specific sub process or function. Some circuits have a serial arrangement so they are highly dependent on each other’s reliability. Also some circuits develop parallel processes with null or low impact on the terminal main process; however they may influence the facility risk in terms of probability of failure and consequences. Support and auxiliary circuits play an important role in terminal reliability since they could affect performance and continuity. There are circuits thought of as transmission and logistics elements, and that reliability is highly dependent on mechanical integrity to perform a specific function. Maritime terminals may have a circuit of SPM (Single Point Mooring) buoys for loading or uploading product. The analysis model has to include every circuit to cover any possible arrangement and configuration. The model is supported by a processes mapper that allows the user to define serial, parallel and support processes based on a logistics scheme in terms of reliability and mechanical integrity. The developed model provides results to support decision making for product transmission and distribution and addresses the importance of terminals in terms of risk and reliability for logistics planning. The terminals model is supported by 16 algorithms that may be used according to operator needs by simply activating or deactivating circuits to obtain values for probabilities of failure that predict any potential service interruption.

The Enbridge Liquids Pipeline system is comprised of a large number of facilities including storage terminals, pump stations, injection sites, and delivery sites. Given the vast amount of small diameter piping (SDP) within company Pipeline facilities, SDP represents a significant portion of total facility integrity risk. An event such as equipment failure or product release can cause significant business impacts, and adverse consequences to the environment and/or safety of operations personnel. A quantitative risk based approach is required in order to establish robust, risk-based plans and programs to maintain the integrity of these SDP sections. Small diameter piping lengths are relatively short. Consequently, it is impractical to use SDP length as a unit of likelihood and risk measure. Instead, the preferred methodology is to determine the total number of assemblies for each type of SDP. In support of this approach, an inventory of SDP sections throughout the system has been gathered. For illustrative purposes, an example of a small diameter section would be a pressure transmitter branch connection. The isolatable section that would be risk assessed would start from the surface of the main station piping connection and continue up to the transmitter. This paper presents the framework for likelihood and consequence assessment of SDP based on the system description above. This framework quantitatively estimates the risk of SDP failure and risk-ranks SDP sections in support of implementing and establishing a system wide Risk Based Inspection and Maintenance program for SDP.

Abstract Most unitized Pipelines in Nigeria are Trunk lines which take crude oil from flow stations to the Terminals. Very few International Oil and Gas Companies own and operate trunk lines in Nigeria. As a result, marginal field owners, independent producers, and some JV partners share the trunk line for the sale of their crude. But because of the use of wide range of non-compliant meters by the injectors into the trunk lines a lot of line losses due to measurement errors are introduced. Another major feature is that trunk lines are exposed to leakages due to sabotage, aged pipeline and valve failures. The issue here is how does the owner of the trunk line back allocate these losses to their respective injectors. The Reverse Mass Balanced Methodology (RMBM) is currently in use having replaced Interim Methodology (IM) in 2017. In RMBM, the crude trunk line losses have been found to be unaccountable and it's proportionate rule for distribution of the losses to the producers are inequitable as the field owners expressed dissatisfaction with unfair deduction from trunk line operators. This study developed a procedure and an algorithm for estimation of crude contributions from each producer at the Terminal and equitable distribution of crude trunk line losses to the producers irrespective of the type of meters, meter factor and leakages and sporadic theft on the trunk lines. This study also identified two alternatives to the RMBM, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Flow based models. The results showed that flow-based model accounts for both individual and group losses, not accounted for in the RMBM, and allocates and corrects for leak volumes at the point of leak instead of at the terminal. This is a significant improvement from the RMBM.

Abstract For the numerical description of high velocity impact, Smooth-Particle-Hydrodynamics (SPH) has gained more and more interest. The standard Lagrangian Finite-Element (FE) approach has difficulties in describing large deformations and fracture. However, a simulation based on SPH only is very expensive due to the small size of the particles. A well adopted solution to this is to couple both methods, using SPH only where it is necessary, and capturing the outer boundary conditions with a bias FE-mesh correctly - without considerable extra computational cost. We apply such a hybrid approach in LS-DYNA® for the characterization of threats in terminal ballistics. Different meshing approaches for the projectile and target were implemented to guarantee an optimal initial condition. The particle size and the required size of the SPH-region were studied to exclude discretization effects. Exemplarily, a projectile surrogate with simplified geometry is investigated for a fixed impact velocity and two different angles of obliquity. A qualitative comparison between experiments, observed with X-ray cinematography, reveals a good potential of this approach towards predicting fracture and ricochet during high velocity impact events.
