Dendritic cells (DC) play a key role in immunity and represent a great target for modulation, because of their ability to prime T cells and direct their polarisation into effector subsets. Ticks release immunomodulatory compounds in their saliva, possibly in order to evade host immune responses during feeding. We have recently reported that Rhipicephalus appendiculatus ticks produce ‘Japanin’, a secretory lipocalin that arrests differentiation of monocytes into DC and reprogrammes maturation of DC in response to various stimuli towards a tolerogenic phenotype . Japanin was cloned and recombinantly expressed in a baculovirus system for subsequent immunological and biochemical analysis. This study was set out to further investigate the immunomodulatory activity of Japanin as well as the underlying mechanism of action. We have discovered that Japanin prevents DC-mediated proliferation and polarisation of allogeneic T cells. Experiments with labelled Japanin have demonstrated that it binds predominantly to ex vivo generated human monocyte-derived DC (moDC) and to a reduced degree to monocyte and DC populations in peripheral blood, yet to no other blood leucocytes. We have identified CD206, also known as the mannose receptor, as a Japanin-binding receptor on moDC. This identification has been achieved by crosslinking and subsequent pull-down of Japanin-receptor complexes from moDC. Affinity studies with recombinant CD206 constructs have confirmed the binding to Japanin. Moreover, the binding has been verified by specific siRNA knock-down of CD206 in moDC, which resulted in significantly decreased binding of Japanin. Unexpectedly, CD206 has appeared to be dispensable for at least most of the DC-modulatory activity of Japanin. Therefore, attempts were made to determine other factors in the mode of action of Japanin, through which we have found that IL-10 is not essentially involved. Further results have suggested that the activity of Japanin demands cell contact. Collectively, we have come to the conclusion that the mechanism of action of Japanin might require internalisation by DC, potentially enabling modulation of intracellular pathways involved in the regulation of DC maturation.

The field of vector-borne disease research uses multidisciplinary approaches to help understand complicated interactions. This dissertation, covers three different aspects of tick-borne disease research which all focus on exploring tick-borne diseases in the non-endemic areas of Denton, County Texas and the state of Texas with a focus on Rickettsia spp. These aspects include tick sampling, testing ticks for the presence of Rickettsia spp., and creating species distribution maps of the Rickettsia spp. Rickettsia amblyommatis and tick species Amblyomma americanum.

Social responsibility is the commitment that each person has with the society and the humanity; all companies have worried much more about this question, increasing significantly the amount of projects of enterprise social responsibility since the 1990?s. Usually these projects are developed by volunteers who want to work with other people and/or communities in an aid relation, what he confronts them with the particularities that exist in any interaction between human being. It is important that these volunteers have a space where they can share, think and re-elaborate its practice being able to understand itself and to the other through its proper lived experience. The clinical psychologist can contribute facilitating the occurrence of propitious conditions so that the volunteer development. This qualitative research of participant type if developed from the inclusion of a clinical psychologist in a project of enterprise social responsibility; intends to describe the possibilities of performance of the clinical psychologist in projects of enterprise social responsibility. Concluding that the possibilities of performance of the clinical psychologist in projects of enterprise social responsibility are multiple, being some of them: facilitator of group processes; supervisor of group of volunteers; consultant of the project; assessor of the project; psychological promoter counseling and clinical intervention.
\a Resumo: Responsabilidade social ? o compromisso que cada pessoa tem com a sociedade e com a humanidade; as empresas t?m se preocupado cada vez mais com esta quest?o, aumentando significativamente a quantidade de projetos de responsabilidade social empresarial desde a d?cada de 90. Estes projetos costumam ser desenvolvidos por volunt?rios que se prop?e a trabalhar com outras pessoas e/ou comunidades numa rela??o de ajuda, o que os defronta com as particularidades presentes em qualquer intera??o humana. ? importante que estes volunt?rios tenham um espa?o no qual possam compartilhar, pensar e reelaborar sua pr?tica, podendo compreender a si e ao outro atrav?s de sua pr?pria experi?ncia vivida. This study The Dyad of knowledge and teaching practices: an inter-relational study deals with the relationship between conceptual knowledge on behalf of the teachers and their teaching practices. The research aims to investigate the relations amongst conceptual meanings related to the professor and the practices of three (03) Fundamental Cycle public schools teachers in Natal-Brazil. Thus, a collaborative research of qualitative nature was performed by us. It was based on collaboration and critical reflection, as well as the socialhistorical theoretical methodological principles of Ferreira (2009). This was acknowledged as an analytical support for the reflections that were realized on concepts related to teachers and teaching considering the archeology on these concepts. The methodological procedures and tools we used consisted of Formative Autobiographies, Reflexive Study, Collaborative Observation, as well as some Reflexive Sessions. The analysis framework was based on information obtained by these methodological procedures as well as the critical collaborative and reflexive procedures. The studies permitted us to widen our knowledge related to the conceptual meaning of teaching and teachers. But it was not always possible for us to (re)elaborate these meanings in the conceptual phase. This was only possible to understand once our Formative Autobiographies were analyzed. They reveal that the concept elaboration process is not a part of our own formative path. The time that was dedicated to that proved to not be enough. The concept elaboration process demands time, effort as well as life-long learning skills. This is not always possible to achieve in this part of the study, on the other hand, this was possible to acknowledge that in the different stages of our conceptual elaboration. The teaching practices that we analyzed were predominantly heterogeneous and were fundamented on meanings of concepts related to teachers and teaching, that were internalized beforehand, (re)elaborated according to the conflicted and contradictory situations. The reflexive and collaborative process that we experimented during the Reflexive Sessions pointed out the predominance of technical and practical reflection process. In some moments it was possible for us to critically reflect on teaching practices due to the collaborative mode that we experienced. The importance of collaboration for teaching formation and professional development of behalf of teachers in general is pointed out by this research. Also regarding this research it was possible to see that there was personal and professional growth, experiencing learning together to collaborative reflect, as well as to counter-argument, reformulate concepts and conceptions aiming to transform our teaching practice
O estudo que apresentamos, intitulado A d?ade saberes e pr?ticas docentes: um estudo de suas inter-rela??es, trata da rela??o entre os saberes conceituais de professor e doc?ncia e as pr?ticas docentes. Teve como objetivo investigar a rela??o entre os significados conceituais relativos a professor e doc?ncia e a pr?tica docente de tr?s (03) professoras do Ensino Fundamental que atuam em escolas p?blicas da cidade do Natal. Realizamos uma pesquisa colaborativa, de natureza qualitativa, com foco na colabora??o e reflex?o cr?tica, tendo os princ?pios da teoria s?cio-hist?rica e a metodologia conceitual de Ferreira (2009) como suporte anal?tico para as reflex?es que realizamos sobre os conceitos de professor e doc?ncia, assim como sobre a arqueologia desses conceitos. Fizemos uso dos seguintes procedimentos metodol?gicos: Autobiografias de Forma??o, Ciclos de Estudos Reflexivos, Observa??o Colaborativa e Sess?es Reflexivas. O corpus de an?lise se constituiu das informa??es obtidas por meio desses procedimentos metodol?gicos, acrescidos do processo colaborativo reflexivo e cr?tico. Os estudos que realizamos permitiram ampliar nosso conhecimento relativo ao significado conceitual de professor e de doc?ncia, por?m nem todas n?s conseguimos (re)elaborar esses significados no est?gio conceitual, fato compreens?vel se voltarmos o olhar para as nossas Autobiografias de Forma??o, as quais revelaram que o processo de elaborar conceitos n?o fez parte do nosso percurso formativo. Os momentos dedicados para tal finalidade n?o foram suficientes porque esse processo de elabora??o de conceitos demanda tempo e um longo aprendizado, nem sempre atingido de uma s? etapa de estudo, fato comprovado nos est?gios diferenciados de nossas elabora??es conceituais. As pr?ticas docentes que analisamos caracterizaram-se como predominantemente heterog?neas, fundamentadas ora nos significados dos conceitos de professor e de doc?ncia, internalizados anteriormente, ora nos (re)elaborados, determinando muitas vezes situa??es conflituosas e contradit?rias. Quanto ao processo reflexivo colaborativo vivenciado por n?s durante as Sess?es Reflexivas, a predomin?ncia foi da reflex?o t?cnica e pr?tica, mas em alguns momentos refletimos criticamente sobre as pr?ticas docentes, gra?as ? instaura??o do processo de colabora??o por n?s vivenciado. Destacamos a import?ncia que tem a pesquisa colaborativa para forma??o e desenvolvimento profissional de professores de modo geral. No caso desta pesquisa, crescemos como profissionais e enquanto pessoas, aprendendo juntas a refletir colaborativamente, argumentar, contra-argumentar, reformular concep??es e conceitos, objetivando a transforma??o de nossa pr?tica docente

Ethics on scientific research is approached and often discussed in several areas of knowledge connected to health. In the Administration area there are very few studies which approach the topic of ethics on research. The present paper tried to fill in this gap in the production of knowledge about the topic, investigating how the ethical principles found in the literature and in the codes of conduct are noticed and taken into account in Administration research activities developed by acting researchers in Administration Post Graduation Programs. Theoretically speaking, the study was based mainly on the approaches by Creswell (2007) and Bell and Bryman (2007), which discuss the research ethical principles. Methodologically speaking it was all about an exploratory kind of study, with qualitative research approach. Upon data collection, personal interviews were made aiming at its depth and focus groups were formed. The first stage had interviews with four experienced researchers who took part on a teaching and researching event and on the second stage we used the focus group technique. The focus groups were done in four college institutions along with the post graduation programs in Administration in the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Para?ba and Pernambuco, in Brazil. The results suggest the existence of general principles and parameters for the scientific research recommended in the literature and on official resolution. However, in the Administration area, there are only a few recommendations of good practices when it comes to submitting articles for scientific publications but we found no guidance with ethical principles and parameters which cover all the activities in the scientific research and which specifically meet the research particularities in Administration. The main ethical dilemma pointed by the researchers refers to ethical questions which arise at the time of data collection and on disclosing the results. Most researchers do not know the guidelines and the ethical norms on ethics about research that we have in our country neither do they send in their projects to the research ethics committee. When dilemma arises, they decide the ethical question based on their values and common sense. These elements confirm the thesis that the researcher s procedure in the research activities in Administration is predominantly signed by personal values or by common sense and less by ethical principles, whether by not knowing the normative instruments related to ethics or by disagreeing with any disciplining rules on ethical behavior in the research
A ?tica na pesquisa cient?fica ? um tema abordado e muito discutido em diversas ?reas do conhecimento ligadas ? sa?de. Na ?rea da Administra??o, s?o raros os estudos que abordam o tema da ?tica na pesquisa. O presente estudo buscou preencher esta lacuna na produ??o do conhecimento sobre o tema, investigando como os princ?pios ?ticos encontrados na literatura e nos c?digos de conduta s?o percebidos e considerados nas atividades de pesquisa em Administra??o, desenvolvidas por pesquisadores atuantes em Programas de P?s-Gradua??o em Administra??o. Teoricamente, o estudo apoiou-se principalmente nas abordagens de Creswell (2007) e Bell e Bryman (2007), que discutem os princ?pios ?ticos na pesquisa. Metodologicamente, tratou-se de um estudo de car?ter explorat?rio, com abordagem de pesquisa qualitativa. Na coleta de dados foram feitas entrevistas pessoais e em profundidade e formados grupos focais. Na primeira etapa, foram realizadas entrevistas com quatro pesquisadores experientes, participantes de um evento de ensino e pesquisa e na segunda etapa, foi adotada a t?cnica de grupo focal. Os grupos focais foram realizados em quatro institui??es de ensino superior junto aos Programas de P?s-Gradua??o em Administra??o nos Estados do Rio Grande do Norte, Para?ba e Pernambuco. Os resultados apontam para a exist?ncia de princ?pios gerais para a pesquisa cient?fica propostos na literatura e em resolu??o oficial. Por?m, na ?rea da Administra??o existem apenas recomenda??es de boas pr?ticas no tocante ? submiss?o de artigos para publica??es cient?ficas, mas n?o foram encontradas orienta??es com princ?pios ?ticos que englobem todas as atividades da pesquisa cient?fica e que atendam especificamente ?s particularidades das pesquisas em Administra??o. Os principais dilemas ?ticos, apontados pelos pesquisados se referem ?s quest?es ?ticas que surgem nas fases da coleta dos dados e na divulga??o dos resultados. A maioria dos pesquisados n?o conhecem as diretrizes e as normas sobre ?tica na pesquisa existentes no pa?s e nem enviam seus projetos aos comit?s de ?tica na pesquisa. Em caso de dilemas, decidem a quest?o ?tica com base nos seus valores e senso comum. Estes elementos confirmam a tese de que a conduta do pesquisador nas atividades de pesquisa em Administra??o ? predominantemente balizada por valores pessoais ou pelo senso comum e menos por princ?pios ?ticos, seja pelo desconhecimento de instrumentos normativos relacionados ? ?tica, como tamb?m pela discord?ncia com quaisquer regras de disciplinamento sobre conduta ?tica na pesquisa

This bibliographical research aims to investigate the concept of care and educate ( educare ) in the education of children and its relation with the psychological health dissertations and thesis of post graduation programs for psychology from the public and private universities in Brazil. The objects of analysis are the productions of the Post Graduation Programs in Psychology in the period from 1999 to 2006 registered on the data base of CAPES. Our objective is to analyze the researches developed in this Programs which handle the matter of educare in the education of children in the period short after the RCNEI (Referencial Curricular Nacional para a Educa??o Infantil) was published, so as to discuss the implications of the ideas that sustain the concept of educare and the psychological health from the children also the public policies for this segment and the quality of the education for small children. The utilized method, bibliographical qualitative-quantitative characteristics is related with studies type state of art compounded by a research of studies about this matter in a determinated period. The categories for analysis where constructed by the researcher after studying the selected productions. In relation to the theoretical concepts we have started with Henri Wallon in relation to the human development and Gonzalez Rey in relation to the psychological health in order to reflect about the public policies of children education and analyze the principal focuses of the investigated productions. At the end of the research we have found out that psychology has very low interest in relation to children education, principally when we consider educare. We rose up the hypothesis that the absence of the scholar psychology in the field of children education, mostly in day nursery, could be one of the reasons for no production of this matter. On other hand, the education are leading the scientific production in this matter, propitiating significant theoretical and practical concepts in context to the children education. The area of health, represented by the nurses, also has an important presence in these productions, with contributions that have affected public policies. Most of the analyzed researches condition the promotion of psychological health of children, in those contexts, with better skilled teachers, giving too much responsibility to those professionals, not considering the complexity that characterize the spaces to attend the small children.
Esta pesquisa de natureza bibliogr?fica investiga o conceito de cuidar e de educar na educa??o infantil e sua rela??o com a sa?de psicol?gica, em disserta??es e teses dos programas de p?s-gradua??o em psicologia das universidades p?blicas e privadas do Brasil. Constituem-se como objetos de an?lise as produ??es dos Programas de P?s-gradua??o em Psicologia do per?odo de 1999 a 2006, constantes do banco de dados da CAPES. Nosso objetivo ? analisar as pesquisas desenvolvidas nesses Programas que tratam da quest?o do cuidar-educar na educa??o infantil, no per?odo p?s-divulga??o do RCNEI (Referencial Curricular Nacional para a Educa??o Infantil), bem como discutir as implica??es das id?ias que sustentam a concep??o de cuidar e educar da sa?de psicol?gica da crian?a, al?m de abordar as pol?ticas p?blicas para a ?rea, dentre elas, o oferecimento de vagas para o segmento e a qualidade da educa??o das crian?as pequenas. O m?todo utilizado de cunho bibliogr?fico com caracter?stica qualitativo-quantitativa circunscreve-se em estudos do tipo estado da arte , composto de um levantamento das produ??es sobre o tema dentro do per?odo demarcado. As categorias de an?lise foram constru?das a partir da rela??o da pesquisadora com as produ??es acessadas. Em rela??o ao enfoque te?rico, partimos dos conceitos de Henri Wallon sobre o desenvolvimento humano e de Gonzalez Rey sobre sa?de psicol?gica para refletir sobre as pol?ticas p?blicas de educa??o infantil e para analisar os principais enfoques das produ??es investigadas. Constatamos, ao final da pesquisa, que a psicologia tem se interessado pouco pelas tem?ticas da educa??o infantil, sobretudo o cuidar e educar, e levantamos a hip?tese de que a aus?ncia da psicologia escolar no campo da educa??o infantil, principalmente nas creches, poderia ser uma das raz?es da escassez de produ??o da ?rea sobre o tema. Em contrapartida, a ?rea da educa??o lidera a produ??o em pesquisas sobre essa tem?tica, propiciando avan?os te?rico-conceituais e pr?ticos significativos para o contexto educacional infantil. A ?rea da sa?de, representada pela enfermagem, cujas contribui??es t?m afetado as pol?ticas p?blicas, tamb?m tem tido presen?a marcante nessa produ??o. A maioria das pesquisas analisadas condiciona a promo??o da sa?de psicol?gica das crian?as, nesses contextos, a uma melhor forma??o dos professores, o que lhes confere excessiva responsabilidade e desconsidera a complexidade que caracteriza os espa?os de atendimento ? crian?a pequena.

This Research is aimed at becoming a theoretical contribution to the field of European Integration Theory and IR for two reasons. Firstly, this Research proposes the theoretical perspective of Talcott Parsons from sociology and organizational research to scholars within IR Theory. By employing the historical institutionalist and social constructivist IR perspectives and Parsons's 'four-function paradigm' theory, scholars can identify the two effects of a successful institutional design of international political organizations such as the EU: effectiveness and a good public reputation. The Literature Review in Chapter 2 is a theoretical discussion about compatibility of the Parsonians concepts of 'adaptation', a 'holistic approach to policymaking', 'success', and the 'European institutional design' with the European Integration Theory and IR fields. The same Chapter stresses the need to consider the 'ideas' of political leaders in analysing change of institutional design. The second reason for which this Research is a contribution to IR theory is the presentation of eight specific strategies that are likely to generate an organization's success. The eight strategies are institutional conditions making up the 'eight-condition model' of Charles Edquist. This Research adopts an objective and deductive approach that applies the Parsonians theory and the Edquist's 'eight-condition model' to empirical data about European institutions in a cross-sectional and longitudinal research design in the Analysis Chapters 4, 5, and 6. A 'holistic innovation policy approach' to supranational policymaking is employed by the Researcher for the salient circumstances of success to be identified, in order to guide data collection and analysis. The results show that success occurred three times: fully, in the years between 1945 and 1958 and from 1959 to 2002, and partially from 2003 until our days. The concepts of 'adaptation', 'success', 'ideas', the 'four-function paradigm' theory of Parsons and the 'eight-condition model' of Edquist are discussed and ultimately claimed to be both epistemologically compatible and methodologically valid for studies about the success of European integration in the Discussions and Conclusions Chapter.

O aprendizado do método científico estimula o desenvolvimento do pensamento crítico e a análise lógica de informações. Além disso, a proposição e teste de hipóteses são aplicáveis não só à ciência, mas também para fatos comuns da vida diária. Saber como a ciência é feita e seus resultados publicados são úteis para todos os cidadãos e obrigatório para os estudantes de ciências. Uma disciplina de 60-h (QBQ2006 - Introdução à Ciência) foi criada para oferecer aos estudantes de graduação uma forma sistemática de aprendizagem dos procedimentos de produção e publicação científica. A disciplina foi composta por dois módulos e seu foco principal era a bioquímica. O Módulo I explorou artigos científicos e o Módulo II a escrita do projeto de pesquisa. O Módulo I abordou os tópicos: (1) a diferença entre o conhecimento científico e o senso comum; (2) diferentes concepções de ciência; (3) metodologia científica; (4) categorias publicação científica; (5) princípios de lógica; (6) dedução e indução; e (7) leitura crítica de artigos científicos. O Módulo II abordou: (1) seleção de um problema experimental para investigação; (2) revisão bibliográfica; (3) materiais e métodos; (4) apresentação e escrita de projeto; (5) agências de financiamento; e (6) análise crítica de resultados experimentais. O curso adotou uma estratégia de aprendizagem colaborativa, e cada tópico foi estudado por meio de atividades a ser realizadas pelos alunos. Avaliações qualitativas e quantitativas do curso, com questionários do tipo Likert, foram realizadas em cada oferecimento e os resultados mostraram grande aprovação da disciplina pelos alunos. Os professores responsáveis pelo planejamento e desenvolvimento da disciplina também a avaliaram positivamente. O Departamento de Bioquímica do Instituto de Química da Universidade de São Paulo ofereceu essa disciplina quatro vezes. Aproveitando os recursos fornecidos pelas Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação (TIC) e da experiência adquirida com o primeiro oferecimento da disciplina QBQ2006 foi criado, adaptada desta, outra disciplina de 60h, com o mesmo nome, na modalidade à distância (IC01 - Introdução à Ciência). Foi oferecida aos alunos de graduação dos cursos de Nutrição, Biomedicina e Medicina da Fundação Faculdade Federal de Ciências Médicas de Porto Alegre (FFFCMPA) atual Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (UFCSPA). A disciplina foi composta por dois módulos e adotou estratégia de aprendizagem colaborativa, como descrito na experiência anterior. Understanding the scientific method fosters the development of critical thinking and logical analysis of information. Additionally, proposing and testing a hypothesis is applicable not only to science, but also to ordinary facts of daily life. Knowing the way science is done and how its results are published is useful for all citizens and mandatory for science students. A 60-h course (QBQ2006 - Introduction to Science) was created to offer undergraduate students a framework in which to learn the procedures of scientific production and publication. The course\'s main focus was biochemistry, and it was comprised of two modules. Module I dealt with scientific papers, and Module II with research project writing. Module I covered the topics: (1) the difference between scientific knowledge and common sense, (2) different conceptions of science, (3) scientific methodology, (4) scientific publishing categories, (5) logical principles, (6) deductive and inductive approaches, and (7) critical reading of scientific articles. Module II dealt with (1) selection of an experimental problem for investigation, (2) bibliographic revision, (3) materials and methods, (4) project writing and presentation, (5) funding agencies, and (6) critical analysis of experimental results. The course adopted a collaborative learning strategy, and each topic was studied through activities performed by the students. Qualitative and quantitative course evaluations with Likert questionnaires were carried out at each stage, and the results showed the students\' high approval of the course. The staff responsible for course planning and development also evaluated it positively. The Biochemistry Department of the Chemistry Institute of the University of São Paulo has offered the course four times. Taking advantage of the resources provided by the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and the experience gained with the first offering of the course QBQ2006 another 60h course was created in distance mode (IC01 - Introduction to Science). It was offered to undergraduate students of Nutrition, Biomedicine and Medicine from the Fundação Faculdade Federal de Ciências Médicas de Porto Alegre (FFFCMPA) current Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (UFCSPA). The course was comprised by the two modules and adopted a collaborative learning strategy, as described in the previous experience. A presente tese tem por objetivo investigar como a utilização de um sistema de gerenciamento de projetos e de recomendação de conteúdo, configurado de acordo com o conceito de ABP, pode apoiar os alunos no processo de investigação e de planejamento de projetos. Para isso, realizou-se um estudo sobre as características estruturais e didáticas da aprendizagem baseada em projetos. Verificou-se de que maneira as tecnologias da informação e comunicação apoiam a ABP e como recomendações de conteúdos influenciaram os alunos em suas investigações. Após a realização do levantamento bibliográfico, a metodologia projetual, denominada ‘Projeto E’ foi configurada como modelo ABP. Com base neste, desenvolveu-se um sistema de gerenciamento e planejamento de projetos acadêmicos com dispositivo de recomendação de conteúdos. Em seguida, realizou-se um experimento prático com o uso do sistema para verificar as contribuições do mesmo no processo de ensino de projetos. Para obtenção dos dados, foram aplicados questionários aos alunos participantes, realizadas entrevistas aos professores orientadores, observados os relatórios de projeto e averiguada a frequência de registro de eventos no sistema. A análise e avaliação dos dados foi dividida em oito aspectos considerados importantes para a realização das investigações e planejamento em ABP, a saber: autonomia, discussão, reflexão, colaboração, organização, projetação, apresentação e avaliação. Observou-se que o sistema influenciou positivamente nos seguintes aspectos: livre a organização das equipes, na gestão do tempo, no planejamento projetual, no trabalho a distância, na integração e sincronia dos alunos entre si e com os professores, na compreensão das estruturas metodológicos e no uso de métodos apropriados, nas investigações contextualizadas, na documentação do processo, na discussão e na colaboração entre as equipes, na comparação, revisão e avaliação dos projetos e na equalização da qualidade dos projetos.
This thesis aims to investigate how the use of a project management and content recommendation system, configured in accordance the concept of PBL, can support students in research and project planning process. Therefore, was performed a study on the structural and educational characteristics of project-based learning. Here was also checked how the information and communication technologies support the PBL and how recommendations and content influenced students in their investigations. After the completion of literature survey, the projetual methodology, called Projeto E, was configured as a PBL model and, based on this, was developed a managing and planning projects system for academic content with a recommendation device. Then, a practical experiment is conducted using the system to check out the contributions of them in teaching projects. To obtain the data, questionnaires were administered to participating students, interviews were conducted with teachers, observed the project reports, and ascertained the frequency of the system event log. The analysis and evaluation of data was divided into eight aspects considered important for the investigations and planning in PBL, namely: autonomy, discussion, reflection, collaboration, organization, design, presentation and evaluation. There was observed that the system had a positive effect on the following aspects: easy organization of the teams, time management, in projetual planning, in teleworking, in integration and synchronization among students and teachers, in the comprehension of the methodological structures and the appropriate use of methods, in the research contextualized, in the documentation process, in the discussion and collaboration among teams, in comparison, review and evaluation of projects and in the quality equalizing of the projects.

Nesta tese, argumenta-se que as inscrições são a interface a partir da qual é possível considerar metodologicamente a condição de observadores na visualização do conhecimento. Para isso, considera-se os limites dos sistemas formais, a crise da representação e o modelo da Máquina de Turing como afirmações da condição encarnada do conhecer. Nesse contexto, a noção de informação mostra-se indício de uma transição paradigmática entre um modelo de conhecimento representacional, no qual a posição de um observador frente às representações não entra na configuração analisada, e um modelo sistêmico, que exige a consideração de diferentes níveis de organização e suas limitações que emergem da autorreferência. Propõe-se a noção superfície de inscrição para abordar a relação entre operatividades mecânicas, como a encontrada nos computadores, e o domínio consensual da linguagem que permite explicar um mundo entendido como realidade. Essa noção é forjada como um artifício teóricometodológico para evitar, em contextos educativos e de pesquisa, a reificação de uma posição frente aos quadros explicativos que reforça dicotomias tipo natureza-cultura e deslegitima o potencial enunciativo de qualquer ser humano. O artifício é proposto em três campos de análise e legibilidade: o campo das condições técnicas das superfícies; a estabilização de uma posição de observação diante das superfícies de inscrição; e o contexto político do uso de tais superfícies para compartilhar e explicar.
On this thesis, we discuss that the inscriptions are the interface from which it is possible to consider the conditions of observers methodologically on the knowledge visualization; therefore, we consider the formal systems limits, the representation crisis, and the Turing Machine Model as affirmations of the embodied condition of knowledge. In this context, the notion of information proves to be an indicative of a paradigmatic shift from a representational model of knowledge, in which the position of an observer in the face of representations does not infer the configuration that was analyzed, and a systemic model, which demands consideration of different levels of organization and its limitations that emerge from self-reference. We propose the notion of inscription surface to tackle the relation of different kinds of mechanical operability, as the one found in computers, and the consensual domain of language that helps one to explain a world perceived as reality. This notion is forged as a theoretic-methodological stratagem to avoid, in educational and research contexts, the reification of a position related to the explanatory frameworks that reinforces dichotomies such as nature-culture and delegitimizes the enunciative potential of any humanbeing. The stratagem is proposed in three fields of analysis and readability: the field of technical conditions of the surfaces; a position of observation stabilization on the inscription surfaces, and the political context of the use of such surfaces to share and explain.

Strategies for writing genre opinion piece in school: a methodological proposal is the result of a pedagogical intervention performed in a class of ninth grade of elementary school II of a large public high school in the city of Feira de Santana-Bahia. Research-intervention had a qualitative methodological approach and theoretical framework based on Textual Linguistics. Part of the theoretical framework of base: Antunes(2016, 2009, 2003), Beth Marcuschi (2010),Geraldi (2002, 1997, 1991), Kato (2003), Koch (2016,2002),Marcuschi (2003), Passarelli (2012,2004), PCN (1998), Rodrigues (2000); among others. From a work plan, consisting of additional steps, we develop actions in the classroom, which sought to improve some skills writers of the students. We promote the systematic teaching of a text argumentative, opinion piece, contemplating the underlying writing process steps, which are: planning, writing the first version, revision and rewriting of a text. To this end, we offer 14 thematic workshops focused reading and rereading of texts, the study of linguistic and discursive aspects of the genre, writing and rewriting of an article. The texts were monitored along the search to identify the main difficulties presented by students in relation to the writing of the genre and, also, to evaluate if those difficulties were minimized from the activities developed in class. We, with research, verify that the teaching of writing of a particular genre is most effective when it occurs within an international perspective, contextualized and procedure. In the end, compare the first version of the articles with the rewritten version, whose results showed that after implementation of the activities there was improved performance of students in writing, especially in respect to textual coherence in the title role, in thematic continuity and general sense of the text
Estrat?gias para a escrita do g?nero artigo de opini?o na escola: uma proposta metodol?gica ? resultado de uma interven??o pedag?gica realizada em uma turma de 9? ano do Ensino Fundamental II de uma escola p?blica de grande porte da cidade de Feira de Santana ? Bahia. A pesquisa-interven??o teve uma abordagem metodol?gica qualitativa e referencial te?rico fundamentado na Lingu?stica Textual. Fazem parte do quadro te?rico de base: Antunes (2016, 2009, 2003), Beth Marcuschi (2010), Geraldi (2002, 1997, 1991), Kato (2003) ,Koch (2016,2002), Marcuschi (2003), Passarelli (2012,2004), PCN (1998), Rodrigues (2000); dentre outros. A partir de um plano de trabalho, composto por etapas complementares, desenvolvemos a??es em sala de aula, as quais visaram aprimorar algumas habilidades escritoras dos discentes. Promovemos o ensino sistem?tico de um g?nero textual argumentativo, o artigo de opini?o, contemplando as etapas subjacentes ao processo de escrita, quais sejam: planejamento, escritura da primeira vers?o, revis?o e reescrita de um texto. Para tanto, ofertamos 14 oficinas tem?ticas que tiveram como foco a leitura e a releitura de textos, o estudo dos aspectos lingu?sticos e discursivos do g?nero, a escrita e a reescrita de um artigo. Os textos foram monitorados ao longo da pesquisa para identificarmos as principais dificuldades apresentadas pelos discentes em rela??o ? escritura do g?nero e, tamb?m, para avaliarmos se essas dificuldades foram minimizadas a partir das atividades desenvolvidas em sala. Intentamos, com a pesquisa, verificar se o ensino da escrita de um determinado g?nero ? mais eficaz quando ocorre dentro de uma perspectiva interacional, contextualizada e processual. Ao final, comparamos a primeira vers?o dos artigos com a vers?o reescrita, cujos resultados mostraram que ap?s aplica??o das atividades houve melhor desempenho dos estudantes na escrita, sobretudo no que se referente ? coer?ncia textual na atribui??o de t?tulo, na continuidade tem?tica e de sentido geral do texto

Keeping in mind the discussions about the presence of the historical approach in the field of Mathematics teaching, which is recommended in events of this area, in the Curricular Proposals for S?o Paulo State and in the National Curricular Parameters, and the importance of the concept of function in the meaning of Mathematics in high school, this work, inserted in the research line Pedagogical Practices and the Educator Formation, researched the following question: In which ways and historical perspective the teaching of function makes itself present in the recent academic production from the area of Mathematics Education? This research has as objective to check in which degree of importance the scientific community, who studies the teaching of Mathematics, has given to the pedagogical practices that facilitate the construction of this concept. We consider that it s necessary a study on this aspect to notice didactic and pedagogical elements which can help the teacher s work in the classroom and guide his initial and continuous formation of the Mathematics teacher. For this reason, we accomplished a qualitative research concerning the production of dissertations and thesis from 1997 until 2006, taking into consideration the analysis of the academic production of the same period that concerns the approaches of the works done. In this aspect, we searched the website of Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior CAPES , which aims to help the access to thesis and dissertations carried out in postgraduate programs in Brazil. We hypothesize that the topic function , which is extremely important in the Mathematics Education, has received little attention by researchers. Along the path of this work we delineate a historical route about the concept of function its representations and meanings so we can understand the teacher s own practice in the classroom. Some questions about the teaching of the concept in the Mathematics Education are introduced.

This research aimed to analyze the daily physical education through the perception of social actors in a College of Public School Serop?dica / RJ and verify the extent to which educational policies PCN'se NCM ENEM - National Minimum Curriculum and - the State of Rio de Janeiro , from the 90s of the twentieth century , has contributed to the daily lives of Physical Education in a Public School of Serop?dica / RJ . Educational policies were chosen with the criterion of high school curriculum change . This research adopted a research approach of qualitative nature -inspired participatory research which we believe provide questions that lead us to the dialogue between the Public Policy Educational selected for research and Physical Education . The subjects who participated in this study, field research , are physical education teachers and students of the School , a public school in the state of Rio de Janeiro . The instruments used in the research were semi-structured interviews and field records , derived from observing the daily work of teachers . Data analysis was carried out Johari's about the school routine , public policy education and physical education , in constant dialogue with theoretical sources and research subjects . We note that the teachers of the college concerned using Educational Policies as : PCN 's, NCM ENEM and Minimum Curriculum - although research be conducted in the same year of its publication - in the construction of their classes , so try include what they have more than relevant to your daily life.

Invertebrates do not possess an adaptive immune system, but rely on several mechanisms similar to the innate immune system of mammals. The synthesis and release of a host of potent antimicrobial proteins is an important component of this immune response. The antibacterial activity in the hemolymph of Ornithodoros savignyi is specific for Gram-positive bacteria, and the synthesis and release of the antibacterial factors need to be induced by challenging the ticks with heat-killed Gram-negative bacterial suspensions. The induction of the factors is very rapid, leading to a maximal response within one hour following bacterial challenge. The factors are stable at high temperatures, and were found to be protein in nature. By using reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography, four fractions exhibiting antibacterial activity were identified in the hemolymph of immune challenged ticks. Four antibacterial peptides were isolated from these fractions, and the mass analyses of the peptides indicate that there are at least two different antibacterial peptides present in the hemolymph. The N-terminal amino acid sequence of one of the peptides was determined, and the analysis showed that the peptide has high homology with defensin peptides isolated from other tick species. This led to the putative classification of the peptides as part of the invertebrate defensin family. The presence of lysozyme in O. savignyi was studied using molecular biological methods. Vertebrate and invertebrate lysozyme sequences were used to design a lysozyme-specific primer, which was used to amplify specific DNA products from whole tick cDNA using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The conditions for the amplification reaction were optimized, the products of the optimized reaction were cloned into a cloning vector and the nucleotide sequences of the products were determined. The nucleotide sequences were used for similarity searches of sequence databases to determine homology with sequences of known proteins. It is deduced the degenerate primer was not specific for lysozyme and did not playa significant role in the amplification of the PCR products. This method is thus not feasible for the investigation of the lysozyme of O. savignyi.

The Lyme disease agent, Borrelia burgdorferi, has a complex system that allows it to thrive in the harsh and distinct environments of its tick vector and mammalian host. Although it has been known for some time that the Borrelia oxidative stress regulator protein (BosR) plays a necessary role in mammalian infectivity and functions as a transcriptional regulator of alternative sigma factor RpoS, very little is known about its mechanism of action, other than the suggestion that BosR activates rpoS transcription by binding to certain upstream regions of the gene. In our studies, we performed protein degradation assays and luciferase reporter assays for further understanding of BosR function. Our preliminary findings suggest that BosR is post-transcriptionally regulated by an unknown protease and may not need to bind to any rpoS upstream regions in order to activate transcription. We also describe the construction of luciferase reporter systems that will shed light on BosR’s mechanism of action. We postulate the provocative possibility that unlike its homologs Fur and PerR in other bacterial systems, BosR may not utilize a DNA-binding mechanism in order to fulfill its role as a transcriptional regulator to modulate virulence gene expression.

Due to the rapid development in the Internet and the maturity in the digitized technology, there are many new real-time services, such as Video conference、IP-phone and VoD( Video on Demand ), are derived. For reducing the buffer requirement in the client side and service request/response time, streaming technology is usually adopted in these real-time traffic transmission. In these client/server applications, the applied timer resolution in both of server host and client host will affect the performance and correctness of the system operation. In this thesis, we investigate the issues of timer resolution in the real-time operating system and focus on the development of how to derive a precise timer and lower overhead in the real-time system. Based on the ARM-based evaluation board, an uC/OS-II real-time OS is ported to understand the overhead of the tick clock in the periodic timer interrupt system. A modified adjustable timer resolution (M-ATR) algorithm is proposed and implemented to verify the overhead of context-switch level timer interrupt for the real-time system. Further more, for reducing both of the time skew and the time drift problems in M-ATR algorithm, we propose a hardware-based timer management architecture to off-load the timer services from the RTOS to the hardware component. The proposed of the hardware-based timer is also emulated by the ARM emulation board to understand the performance of this architecture in this thesis.
