Abstract (sommario):
Commitment is an essential part of successful long-term relationships. Whereas commitments by both parties in an exchange can provide the foundation for development of relational social norms, disproportionate commitments can lead to opportunism by the less committed partner. The authors study the effect of the credibility and proportionality of commitment inputs in an exchange upon the development of relational social norms, opportunism, and long-term commitment intentions. They also investigate longitudinal effects of the credibility of long-term commitment intentions, relational social norms, and opportunism in one time period on commitment inputs and long-term commitment intentions in later periods. Data gathered from a behavioral simulation suggest that (1) the credibility of commitment inputs in exchange is positively related to the development of relational social norms, (2) and is positively related to long-term commitment intentions in the same time period, (3) relational social norms may be undermined by opportunistic conduct, and (4) the presence of relational social norms in one time period is positively related to commitment inputs and long-term commitment intentions in later periods.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract We propose a theory of optimal fiscal policy with ‘Limited-Time Commitment’. In our framework, successive governments have commitment only over finite, overlapping horizons. We first show that key results in the ‘Full Commitment’ literature can often be sustained with a single period of commitment. We then solve a calibrated model in which ‘Limited-Time Commitment’ fails to implement the ‘Full Commitment’ policy, and find that one year (three years) of commitment recovers one-third (two-thirds) of the welfare losses relative to ‘No Commitment’. Finally, we investigate the trade-off between commitment and flexibility in response to shocks.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examines the relationships of extra-role time (ERT) behavior with burnout and occupational commitment among teachers through the lens of conservation of resources (COR) theory. Results reveal that teachers who invest in more ERT are also more likely to experience burnout and decreased commitment to teaching than those who invest less. However, results also indicate that the ethical practice of the employer fulfilling the psychological contract (keeping promises) entered into with the teacher offsets this negative spiral with implications for both teacher well-being and workplace outcomes.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this study was to examine whether changes over time in the determinants of sport commitment would be related to predicted changes in commitment. Male and female (N = 103) high school soccer players completed surveys toward the middle and at the end of their regular season. A simultaneous multiple regression analysis indicated that commitment was significantly predicted by changes in involvement opportunities. Examination of the mean magnitude of changes in the determinants and corresponding changes in commitment using a series of correlated t-tests revealed significant effects for sport enjoyment and involvement opportunities. For those players whose sport enjoyment and involvement opportunities had declined, there was a corresponding decrease in their commitment. For those players whose involvement opportunities had increased, there was a corresponding increase in their commitment. Combined, these results provided support for a priori hypotheses regarding changes in the determinants of commitment over time and corresponding changes in commitment.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship among job involvement, organizational commitment, team commitment and professional commitment and to explore generational differences for these variables. Design/methodology/approach – It used structured questionnaire survey approach for which data were collected from 477 full-time employees of 13 organizations from diverse sectors in India. Respondents were categorized into four generational cohorts following the classification reported in Robbins et al. (2011). Findings – The findings of the study indicated that professional commitment is negatively related with job involvement, affective organizational commitment, normative organizational commitment, and team commitment. Job involvement, affective and normative organizational commitment, and team commitment were positively correlated. Differences were observed among Generation Y, Generation X, Liberals, and Socialist for job involvement, affective organizational commitment, normative organizational commitment, professional commitment, and team commitment. Generation Y, for example, was found high in professional commitment, while Socialist were found higher on affective organizational commitment compared to other generations. Practical implications – Findings suggests that there is a decrease in job involvement, affective organizational commitment, normative organizational commitment, and increase in professional commitment in young generations. Organizations need to take consideration this while designing the HR policies for employees’ engagement. Originality/value – The contribution of the study lies in examining the employees’ attitude to different dimensions of work life and differences among Indian generations.

Abstract (sommario):
Timing matters in relationships. People vary in their sense of when they think the time is right to be involved in a committed relationship. We propose and examine the construct of commitment readiness and its role in predicting important relationship outcomes including commitment level, maintenance processes, and stability among involved intimates. Data from five independent samples obtained with various methods revealed, as hypothesized, that readiness (a) predicts commitment, maintenance processes, and actions toward ending a relationship; (b) serves to moderate commitment in predicting maintenance processes (self-disclosure, accommodation, sacrifice); and (c) serves to moderate commitment in predicting leave behavior, with those reporting both higher commitment and higher readiness being more likely to enact maintenance behaviors and least likely to enact leave behavior. We discuss the importance of considering one’s readiness for commitment within ongoing involvements.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This article develops a model of optimal government debt maturity in which the government cannot issue state-contingent bonds and cannot commit to fiscal policy. If the government can perfectly commit, it fully insulates the economy against government spending shocks by purchasing short-term assets and issuing long-term debt. These positions are quantitatively very large relative to GDP and do not need to be actively managed by the government. Our main result is that these conclusions are not robust to the introduction of lack of commitment. Under lack of commitment, large and tilted debt positions are very expensive to finance ex ante since they exacerbate the problem of lack of commitment ex post. In contrast, a flat maturity structure minimizes the cost of lack of commitment, though it also limits insurance and increases the volatility of fiscal policy distortions. We show that the optimal time-consistent maturity structure is nearly flat because reducing average borrowing costs is quantitatively more important for welfare than reducing fiscal policy volatility. Thus, under lack of commitment, the government actively manages its debt positions and can approximate optimal policy by confining its debt instruments to consols.

Abstract (sommario):
Context Understanding changes in athletic training program (ATP) commitment over time is crucial in retaining high-quality students in an ATP. Objective The purpose of this study was to examine if changes over time in ATP commitment determinants are related to actual changes in ATP commitment. Design Longitudinal and cross-sectional survey. Setting Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education-accredited ATP. Patients or Other Participants A total of 99 male and female athletic training students participated in Time 1. A total of 71 (39% males, 61% females) of the original 99 participants participated in Time 2. Participants ranged in age from 18 to 24 years (mean = 20.05, standard deviation = 1.28). Data Collection and Analysis Previously validated measures assessed students' perceptions of enjoyment, attractive alternatives, investments, social constraints and support, benefits and costs, and commitment to ATP over time. Change scores for Times 1 and 2 were calculated for each predictor and commitment to ATP. Two multiple regression analyses determined which changes in the determinants of commitment predicted a change in commitment. A repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) determined the magnitude of change in the model variables over time. Lastly, a multivariate ANOVA compared who continued, graduated, and discontinued in the ATP. Results Increases in investments and enjoyment predicted positive changes in commitment from Time 1 to Time 2. Additionally, decreases in classmates' social constraints and increases in professors' social constraints positively predicted changes in commitment. When exploring the magnitude of change in the model variables, only increases and decreases in enjoyment from Time 1 to Time 2 were related to concomitant changes in commitment. Lastly, graduating students reported lower commitment and enjoyment and higher perceived costs than did those students who remained in the ATP and had not yet graduated. Conclusions Athletic training program commitment predictors tend to change over time; ATP enjoyment is critical to continued motivation.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper compares the stochastic behavior of fiscal variables under optimal fiscal policy for the cases of full commitment by the government (Ramsey problem) and no commitment by the government (focusing on differentiable Markov perfect equilibrium). It shows that the cyclical properties of fiscal variables are similar for both commitment assumptions. These conclusions are robust to two different specifications of the structure of public bonds (risk-free and state-contingent) and to different sets of the parameters. The cyclical properties of fiscal variables, regardless of commitment assumptions, can be determined by the parameters of the utility function.

Abstract (sommario):
The following empirical research investigated the difference of several form of commitment of part time students to their employer. Therefore, this study based on the three component model of Allen & Meyer (1990). Most of the previous empirical researches investigated the commitment of employees within an organization. The measurement of commitment of part time students to their employer is largely unexplored and build the research gap of the following empirical research. The objectives of the work are to present the previous scientific findings of the three components model of Allen & Meyer and to answer the question if and what extent the commitment of part time students in Germany changed during their study time.To test possible differences of commitment, the questionnaire with 24 items was used. 231 part-time students participated in the survey. In addition to the statistical basics, the differences of commitment were found by using a two sample t-test. A key finding of this research is that students at the end of their study time have a lower commitment to their employer as students at the begin of their study time.

Abstract (sommario):
Service firms have become highly competitive in terms of providing the delivery. The delivery quality in terms of delivery commitments. Delivery commitments impact the customer in deciding for the service. Computing the delivery commitments in stochastic service systems is a real challenge. Delivery commitment forms a key parameter in formulating the service level agreements in B2B markets. In our current work we propose a queuing theoretic approach for computing the delivery commitments. The authors employ basic Probability theory to propose two bounds on delivery commitment time. Further, we investigate the effect of learning in service networks. They believe that their work can provide a simple and easy framework for quality analysis in stochastic service networks.

Abstract (sommario):
We examined how future time perspective (FTP) is related to the career-related variables of occupational self-efficacy, career commitment, and organizational commitment, and how it indirectly influences turnover intention. Full-time employees (N = 555) in a wide range of industries participated in this research. We used structural equation modeling and the biased-corrected bootstrapping method of testing for mediation to analyze the data. Results showed that FTP had a direct effect on occupational self-efficacy and career commitment and an indirect effect on turnover intention through the mediators of occupational self-efficacy and career commitment. Occupational self-efficacy indirectly influenced turnover intention through the mediators of career commitment and organizational commitment. Implications of FTP in the field of human resources are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract: In the Indonesian hotel industry, high employee turnover rates are very common costly. One of the reasons that causes hotel employee turnover to be high is low commitment. The low commitment is triggered by the low hope of hotel employees to remain and to be committed to continuing their careers in the hotel where they are working today. Employees need certainty about their future that should be guaranteed by hotel management. This study tries to analyze the role of Future Time Perspective (FTP) and its effect on hope and continuance commitment. The data were derived from distributing questionnaires to hotel employees spread in 45 three-star hotels in Surabaya, and subsequently analyzed using the General Structured Component Analysis (GSCA) tool. The results show that FTP influences hope and continuance commitment significantly. Similarly, hope has a significant effect on continuance commitment. Hope is also able to act as a mediator between FTP and continuance commitment. Keywords: hotel industry, future time perspective, hope, continuance commitment Implikasi Future Time Perspective dan Harapan Terhadap Continuance Commitment Karyawan HotelAbstrak: Di industri perhotelan Indonesia, tingkat turnover karyawan yang tinggi sudah menjadi rahasia umum dan sangat memakan biaya. Kata kunci: industri perhotelan, future time perspective, harapan, continuance commitment

Abstract (sommario):
Commitment is a consequence of a contract. Identifying the nature of commitment is very important to achieve it. The question here is that what is the nature of commitment in construction contracts? Is the constructor bound to achieve a result and implement the contract subject, or is his/her effort to implement the contract subject enough? Since performance of the contract subject in construction contracts, which include creating, repairing and reconstructing a building, requires time passing and meeting various secondary commitments by both parties, the issue was studied according to the general conditions of FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers) contracts, Iranian Organization of Management and Planning and Principles of European Law on Service Contracts.

Overall, Nickola C. "Does Partners’ Negative-Direct Communication During Conflict Help Sustain Perceived Commitment and Relationship Quality Across Time?" Social Psychological and Personality Science 9, n. 4 (19 giugno 2017): 481–92. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/1948550617712030.

Abstract (sommario):
The current study tested when partners’ negative-direct communication promotes perceived commitment and helps preserve relationship quality and when partners’ negative-direct communication damages perceived commitment and relationship quality. Negative-direct communication was assessed within 322 relationship conflict discussions involving one partner (the agent) wanting change in the other (the target). Perceived commitment and relationship quality were repeatedly assessed across the following year. Greater negative-direct communication by partners as agents of change predicted more positive trajectories of perceived partner commitment and relationship quality across time, whereas greater negative-direct communication by partners targeted for change predicted declines in perceived commitment and relationship quality. These longitudinal effects were magnified for people who initially perceived their partner’s commitment to be low. Thus, partners’ negative-direct communication can help sustain relationship quality when it offers a needed sign of partners’ commitment but has detrimental effects when partners’ negative-direct communication reflects low responsiveness to attempts to improve relationship problems.

Abstract (sommario):
The commodity-based cryptography is an alternative approach to realize conventionally impossible cryptographic primitives such as unconditionally secure bit-commitment by consuming pre-established correlation between distrustful participants. A unit of such classical correlation is known as the one-time table (OTT). In this paper, we introduce a new example besides quantum key distribution in which quantum correlation is useful for cryptography. We propose a scheme for unconditionally secure qubit-commitment, a quantum cryptographic primitive forbidden by the recently proven no-masking theorem in the standard model, based on the consumption of the quantum generalization of the OTT, the bipartite quantum state we namedquantum one-time tables(QOTT). The construction of the QOTT is based on the newly analyzed internal structure of quantum masker and the quantum secret sharing schemes. Our qubit-commitment scheme is shown to be universally composable. We propose to measure the randomness cost of preparing a (Q)OTT in terms of its entropy, and show that the QOTT with superdense coding can increase the security level with half the cost of OTTs for unconditionally secure bit-commitment. The QOTT exemplifies an operational setting where neither maximally classically correlated state nor maximally entangled state, but rather a well-structured partially entangled mixed state is more valuable resource.
