The timple is a small traditional cordophone originary from the Canarian ar- chipelago (one of the outermost regions of the Kingdom of Spain). Because of its morphology, it is similar to the ukulele or the guitarro, but differs with them in that the back of the timple is curved. This research work addresses the study of timple from two perspectives: organological and acoustic. In order to carry out the study, instruments provided by La Casa - Museo del Timple loca- ted in the Municipality of Teguise on the island of Lanzarote (Canary Islands) were analyzed. In a preliminar phase of the study, interviews with luthiers were carried out and then analyzed with the aim of defining the most signifi- cant parameters for the organological study. Conditions for the experimental method and the acoustic peculiarities were also determined for the recordings of timples. To ensure the repeatability of the measurement process, a device to pluck the string automatically, thus excluding interpreter dependence, was designed, conceived and constructed. In order to structure the analysis of the present research a cataloguing system to classify groups of timples is proposed and validated. In it, different aspects are taken into consideration such as the functionality or the acoustic response of each group for its definition. To synt- hesize this, a table is provided with the averages and deviation ranges of the characteristic parameters of each timple group.
El timple es un pequeño cordófono tradicional del archipiélago canario (región ultraperiférica del Reino de España). Por su morfología, es semejante al ukelele o al guitarró, pero difiere en que la parte trasera del timple es curva. En este trabajo de investigación se aborda el estudio del timple desde dos perspectivas: organológica y acústica. Para la realización del estudio se analizaron instrumentos cedidos por La Casa - Museo del Timple ubicada en el municipio de Teguise en la isla de Lanzarote (Islas Canarias). En una primera fase del estudio, se realizan y analizan entrevistas a luthiers con el objetivo de definir los parámetros más significativos para el estudio organológico. De igual manera, se realiza un estudio acústico previo para definir las condiciones del método experimental y se analizan las particularidades acústicas de grabaciones de timples. Para asegurar la repetibilidad del proceso de medida se ha diseñado, concebido y construido un dispositivo para punzar la cuerda de forma automática, excluyendo así la variabilidad del interprete. El estudio principal se aborda desde la perspectiva organológica y la acústica, haciendo énfasis en las interrelaciones entre ambas. Con objeto de estructurar el análisis de la investigación se propone y se valida un sistema de catalogación por grupos de timples en el que se tienen en consideración distintos aspectos como la funcionalidad y respuesta acústica de cada grupo para su definición. A modo de síntesis, se aporta una tabla con los promedios y rangos de desviación de parámetros característicos cada grupo de timple propuesto.
El timple és un petit cordòfon tradicional de l'arxipèlag canari (regió ultraperi- fèrica del Regne d'Espanya). Per la seva morfologia, és semblant a l'ukeleleo al guitarró, però difereix en què la part posterior del timple és corba. En aquest treball d'investigació s'aborda l'estudi del timple des de dues perspectives: organològica i acústica. Per a la realització de l'estudi es van analitzar instru- ments cedits per La Casa - Museu del Timple ubicada al municipi de Teguise a l'illa de Lanzarote (Illes Canàries). En una primera fase de l'estudi, es realit- zen i analitzen entrevistes a luthiers amb l'objectiu de definir els paràmetres més significatius per a l'estudi organològic. Igualment, es realitza un estudi acústic previ per definir les condicions del mètode experimental i s'analitzen les particularitats acústiques de enregistraments de timples. Per assegurar la repetibilitat del procés de mesura s'ha dissenyat, concebut i construït un dis- positiu per punxar la corda de forma automàtica, excloent així la variabilitat del interpret. L'estudi principal s'aborda des de la perspectiva organològica i l'acústica, fent I?èmfasi en les interrelacions entre ambdues. A fi d'estructurar l'anàlisi de la investigació es proposa i es valida un sistema de catalogació per grups de timples en el qual es tenen en consideració diferents aspectes com la funcionalitat i resposta acústica de cada grup per a la seva definició. A ma- nera de síntesi, s'aporta una taula amb les mitjanes i rangs de desviació de paràmetres característics cada grup de timple proposat.

TIM-barrel is highly conserved and an ubiquitously occurring protein fold in nature and is the most common protein fold in the Protein Data Bank. TIM barrel scaffold is a highly diverse fold with at least known 33 distinct enzyme super families catalyzing activity completely unrelated enzymatic reactions. Moreover, some proteins with TIM barrel architecture, particularly belonging to GH-k (Glycosyl hydrolases) clan have been reported without any enzymatic reactions. The pair wise amino acid sequence similarity of Tim-barrel folds from non-homologous enzyme families is generally below the detectable level. Tim-Barrel prediction server has been developed. A machine learning algorithm using SVM-based method have been used as the prediction method. The prediction model has been developed consisting of training and test set of about 7600 non redundant sequences. Three different features using amino acid count, dipeptide composition and position specific scoring matrix have been used to train the SVM. The overall accuracy and maximum MCC for all the features are 0.75 & 84.93% , 0.75.78 & 75.78%, 0.9434 & 94.34% has been achieved respectively. A five-fold cross validation was used to evaluate the performance of these methods. Currently there is no prediction server that is devoted for TIM-BARREL fold recognition; therefore TIMPRED will prove itself a very important tool in the area of protein fold prediction and identification.
