Aim: To provide data on external morphology of Barbus altianalis from four major rivers in Lake Victoria watershed, determine whether there are significant morphometric differences between sub-populations from the rivers of the catchment area examined and to determine relationship between morphometric parameters and standard length (SL). Methods and Results: Morphometric analysis was carried out in the study. Based on 21 morphometric characters, Barbus altianalis populations from four Lake Victoria catchment rivers Nzoia, Yala, Nyando and Son

Streszczenie:
Lake Victoria is known for its rich fish biodiversity having been home to over 500 fish species. However, over 200 species have become extinct and as a result, it is classified as a world hotspot of species loss. Some of the examples of endemic species that disappeared from the lake and are endangered include the Haplochromines and the Barbus species. The Barbus species is currently not seen in the fish landings from Lake Victoria. It is deemed to have sought refuge in the riverine ecosystems, dams and the adjacent satellite lakes within the Lake Victoria Basin. This has resulted in several ga

Streszczenie:
The Lake Victoria drainage basin (LVD) in Kenya is home to ten nominal species of small barbs (Enteromius) and one of large barbs (Labeobarbus altianalis). A recent molecular study genetically characterized small barbs in this region and found evidence of introgression between certain species, complicating the taxonomy and species identification of these fishes. This study aimed to extend our understanding on the evolution of these fishes by: (1) determining whether putatively pure individuals of Enteromius cercops are found in the Kenyan LVD, as the previous study only found hybrid individual
