A gunshot wound to the mandible frequently creates a comminuted fracture that can be debilitating for the patient and challenging for the surgeon. In some instances, immediate open reduction and rigid fixation is not possible, and closed reduction with intermaxillary fixation is employed. This may lead to non-union or mal-union of the segments. This case report describes the management of mal-union of bilateral comminuted mandibular angle fractures secondary to a gunshot wound injury. Background and Objectives The ideal line of osteosynthesis in mandibular angle fractures indicates that a plate might be placed either along or just below the external oblique ridge. Some authors believe that using one miniplate at this line at the mandibular angle region provides sufficient strength to stabilize the fracture but others imply a second plate is required. Such controversies exist in the use of maxillomandibular fixation (MMF). Background: There are diverse treatment modalities available for managing pediatric dentate mandibular fractures, ranging from various closed reduction techniques to open reduction methods. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the most appropriate and preferred management method for pediatric dentate mandibular fractures, focusing on outcomes such as wound infection and malocclusion. Methods: A systematic search was performed using the PubMed Central and Scopus databases from January 1980 to December 2022, following PRISMA guidelines. Purpose: This study was conducted to check the efficacy of PUNPLAPOT-innovative Template for positioning of the bone miniplate for fracture fixation. Material and Methods: Twenty dried mandible specimens were used in this study. The specimens were then divided into two groups using random sampling. Each group consisted of ten mandibles each. The mandibles were fractured in mandibular symphysis region. Study group mandibles were subjected to fixation using 2.5 mm titanium miniplate using PUNPLAPOT plate positioning template. SummaryComplicated mandibular fractures were recognised in one foal, one pony and four horses. The foal was two months old while the adult animals ranged in age from 12 to 24 years. Three horses had a unilateral horizontal ramus fracture. Two fractures were open and one was closed. Comminution was present in one of these patients while the other two horses had marked displacement of the fragments. Two suffered from comminuted fractures of the horizontal and vertical ramus of the mandible. One of these patients had open and infected fractures. One foal had a bilateral horizontal ramus fracture

Mandibular fractures represent an orthopedic challenge in veterinary medicine consideringthe large number of fixation methods that could be used depending on the location and manner in which the fracture occurs. Bone plates are a method of internal fixation that allows the correction of single or bilateral fractures, simple or comminuted; which appropriate material and technical knowledge for their use. Recent studies have demonstrated the superior strength that the locked plates present in relation to the neutralization plates, especially when used in flat bones or with lower bone density. Th

A 51-year-old male was transferred to the hospital with a gunshot injury of the lower face. Three-dimensional scan of the multislice computed tomography (MSCT) revealed a severely comminuted fracture (Panel A: arrow) of the left mandibular body at the inferior margin area (what corresponds to the gunshot marginal mandible fracture diagnosis among 12 variants of gunshot mandibular fractures)1. Also, the implantation of multiple different shape radiopaque foreign bodies (arrowhead) was also visualized along with metal artifacts. Abstract Purpose The management of complex mandible fractures, i.e. severely comminuted or fractures of edentulous/atrophic mandibles, can be challenging. This is due to the three-dimensional loss of bone, which limits the possibility for accurate anatomic reduction. Virtual surgery planning (VSP) can provide improved accuracy and shorter operating times, but is often not employed for trauma cases because of time constraints and complex user interfaces limited to two-dimensional interaction with three-dimensional data. Methods In this study, we evaluate the accuracy, precision, and time effici

Gunshot wounds may cause extensive damage to the facial skeleton, generating complex fractures. Cases of great bone comminution and poor stability can be a challenge with rigid internal fixation. Thus, the use of an external fixator is indicated. The aim of this study is to report a case of a wrist external fixator for initial treatment of a gunshut injury. A 58-year-old male patient was found on the street with extensive comminution and significant mobility of the mandibular bone, tooth loss, crown-root fractures, multiple metal fragments and a firearm projectile lodged in his face.
