The influence of the wastewater composition on the denitrification and biological P-elimination in the Sorption Denitrification P-eliminations Process (S-DN-P-process) was examined. Batch type experiments were performed to examine the influence of various substrates. Among the three different substrates prepared, only 11% CODfilt was taken up from starch containing wastewater (starch preparation). Acetate is an easily degradable substrate for the biological P-elimination, and showed ca. 30% more acetate was taken up compared to the raw wastewater (wastewater preparation). Starch is a barely degradable substance, because it must be hydrolysed before digestion. Starch initially sorbs slowly (approximately 30 min), and may be hydrolysed during this time. During the investigations, the biological P-elimination and the denitrification were found to be dependent on the wastewater composition. The P-elimination rate was determined to be 38% with the acetate preparation, while a P-elimination of 6% was obtained with the starch preparation. The wastewater preparation showed a P-elimination of 56%, the value of which was almost 18% more than the acetate preparation. The biological P-elimination and denitrification depend not only on the dissolved parts in the wastewater, but also on the undissolved content.

This paper analyzes the mechanism of process antenna effect in ultra deep submicron IC physical design and provides the antenna ratio calculation method. A new elimination method of process antenna effect combined with clock tree synthesis is proposed. The elimination method minimizes the impact to the clock latency and clock skew by setting up reasonable constraint for clock tree synthesize. Finally, the elimination method is used during place and route of the physical design of a reconfigurable video decoder chip, which is based on TSMC 65nm low power technology. The proposed method eliminates the process antenna effect of the design effectively, also minimizes the impact to clock tree and chip timing to the least.

This paper focuses on the thermal elimination of alkenes from methyl alkyl thionacetates and thiolacetates. Three alkyl groups are calculated: ethyl, isopropyl and tert-butyl. Possible elimination mechanisms are considered, including six- and four-membered ring transition states for alkene elimination, four-membered ring isomerization and a possible five-membered ring decomposition. Theoretical calculations are performed with the MP2 method and the 6-31G* basis set. Wiberg bond indices are also summarized to monitor the reaction progress.

The major amount of multiple energy in seismic data is related to the large reflectivity of the surface. A method is proposed for the elimination of all surface‐related multiples by means of a process that removes the influence of the surface reflectivity from the data. An important property of the proposed multiple elimination process is that no knowledge of the subsurface is required. On the other hand, the source signature and the surface reflectivity do need to be provided. As a consequence, the proposed process has been implemented adaptively, meaning that multiple elimination is designed as an inversion process where the source and surface reflectivity properties are estimated and where the multiple‐free data equals the inversion residue. Results on simulated data and field data show that the proposed multiple elimination process should be considered as one of the key inversion steps in stepwise seismic inversion.

To decrease software maintenance cost, software development companies use static source code analysis techniques. Static analysis tools are capable of finding potential bugs, anti-patterns, coding rule violations, and they can also enforce coding style standards. Although there are several available static analyzers to choose from, they only support issue detection. The elimination of the issues is still performed manually by developers. Here, we propose a process that supports the automatic elimination of coding issues in Java. We introduce a tool that uses a third-party static analyzer as input and enables developers to automatically fix the detected issues for them. Our tool uses a special technique, called reverse AST-search, to locate source code elements in a syntax tree, just based on location information. Our tool was evaluated and tested in a two-year project with six software development companies where thousands of code smells were identified and fixed in five systems that have altogether over five million lines of code.

Hydrogen is the only gas that is appreciably soluble in aluminum and its alloy. Its solubility is small but its effects on the mechanical properties and finishing characteristics of aluminum alloys are significant. In this paper, a patented degassing process, which is based on the vacuum metallurgy principle, is proposed. The diffusion equation was used for explaining hydrogen transfer in the liquid aluminum under the function of a porous sucking head. RPT experiment was carried out to evaluate effectiveness of the process. The experiment indicates that the hydrogen content can be dramatically reduced to 0.05ml/100gAl owing to the use of this new process.

The main event of the beginning of 2020 should be called the emergence and spread of a new coronavirus infection - COVID 19 among the vast majority of the world's population. The infection affected not only the state of somatic and mental health of a person, but also many other aspects of his life and work - economics, politics, finances. A stable concept is rooted - distance. It has turned into a lifestyle: it has become an attribute of communication of many people of different ages in the household and professional level, part of a new reality. It is obvious that in the near future people will have to adapt to new specific living conditions, including the organization of the process of education of the population. Children of primary school age, and even first-graders, were also involved in distance learning. This fact posed not only situational questions to teach subjects, but also for assessing the value orientations of the modern education system in the near future. Separate results of conducted surveys of teachers on the subject of mastering distance learning have already appeared on the Internet. Teacher opinions indicate that distance learning works more successfully where students have the motivation to learn. At the end of the school year, the results of distance learning in various educational institutions will be known. Obviously, questions will arise about the further use of Internet services in this area. But in our opinion, the role of a teacher as a high-level professional remains the most important condition for a successful educational process. In the conventional burn-in procedures, to burn-in a component or a system means to subject it to a fixed time period of simulated use prior to actual operation. Then those which fail during the burn-in procedure are scrapped and only those which survived the burn-in procedure are considered to be of satisfactory quality. Thus, in this case, the only information used for the elimination procedure is the lifetime of the corresponding item. In this paper we consider a new burn-in procedure which additionally employs a dependent covariate process in the elimination procedure. Through the comparison with the conventional burn-in procedure, we show that the new burn-in procedure is preferable under commonly satisfied conditions. The problem of determining the optimal burn-in parameters is also considered and the properties of the optimal parameters are derived. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the theoretical results obtained in this paper.

Synapses are well known as the main structures responsible for transmitting information through the release and recognition of neurotransmitters by pre- and post-synaptic neurons. These structures are widely formed and eliminated throughout the whole lifespan via processes termed synaptogenesis and synaptic pruning, respectively. Whilst the first process is needed for ensuring proper connectivity between brain regions and also with the periphery, the second phenomenon is important for their refinement by eliminating weaker and unnecessary synapses and, at the same time, maintaining and favoring the stronger ones, thus ensuring proper synaptic transmission. It is well-known that synaptic elimination is modulated by neuronal activity. However, only recently the role of the classical complement cascade in promoting this phenomenon has been demonstrated. Specifically, microglial cells recognize activated complement component 3 (C3) bound to synapses targeted for elimination, triggering their engulfment. As this is a highly relevant process for adequate neuronal functioning, disruptions or exacerbations in synaptic pruning could lead to severe circuitry alterations that could underlie neuropathological alterations typical of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. In this review, we focus on discussing the possible involvement of excessive synaptic elimination in Alzheimer’s disease, as it has already been reported dendritic spine loss in post-synaptic neurons, increased association of complement proteins with its synapses and, hence, augmented microglia-mediated pruning in animal models of this disorder. In addition, we briefly discuss how this phenomenon could be related to other neurological disorders, including multiple sclerosis and schizophrenia.

This article presents the application of the harmony search (HS) optimization algorithm for harmonic elimination in a new topology of multilevel inverters with a reduced number of electronic switching elements. The main objective of the harmonic elimination strategy is eliminating undesired low rank harmonics in order to improve the quality of the output waveform. The harmonic elimination strategy is achieved by solving a system of nonlinear equations. In this paper, HS optimization is applied using artificial neural networks (ANNs) on a new 21-level inverter topology. The algorithm is based on the music improvisation process. MATLAB programming software was used to develop a HS optimization program for harmonic elimination. The main reason for using selective harmonic elimination based on ANNs in this study is to control the proposed multilevel inverter in real-time. In order to assess the performance of the proposed optimization method, it was compared to particle swarm optimization and the genetic algorithm. A small-scale laboratory of the proposed 21-level inverter is built to validate the simulation results and to prove the efficiency of the proposed control scheme.

The aim of this work was to examine the mechanism involved in intestinal elimination of the two optical isomers of ofloxacin in the rat. An intestinal segment was isolated in situ and perfused with saline, while drug solution was administered via the carotid artery. Blood samples and intestinal effluents were collected and analyzed by a high-performance liquid chromatography method. We observed saturable and stereoselective intestinal elimination of the ofloxacin enantiomers. The elimination process favored the R-(+) form of the molecule. After a parenteral dose of 20 mg of racemic ofloxacin per kg of body weight, intestinal clearances were 0.23 +/- 0.03 versus 0.30 +/- 0.03 ml/min for S-(-)- and R-(+)-ofloxacin, respectively. Ciprofloxacin and pefloxacin interfered with ofloxacin elimination and significantly reduced the intestinal clearance of S-(-)- and R-(+)-ofloxacin. With concomitant ciprofloxacin, intestinal clearances became 0.13 +/- 0.02 versus 0.17 +/- 0.03 ml/min and 0.14 +/- 0.01 versus 0.19 +/- 0.05 ml/min with pefloxacin for S-(-)- and R-(+)-ofloxacin, respectively. Those findings argue for the presence of a common transport system in the rat intestine with variable affinities for fluoroquinolones. In addition, verapamil and quinidine, two P-glycoprotein blockers, significantly reduced the intestinal elimination of both ofloxacin isomers (with concomitant verapamil, intestinal clearances were 0.12 +/- 0.02 versus 0.18 +/- 0.03 ml/min for S-(-)- and R-(+)-ofloxacin, respectively, while with concomitant quinidine, values were 0.18 +/- 0.01 versus 0.23 +/- 0.01 ml/min without modifying their areas under the concentration-time curve in serum. Similar results were found with another fluoroquinolone, ciprofloxacin, in previous work. P-glycoprotein appears to be involved in the intestinal elimination of fluoroquinolones in rats. The characterization of fluoroquinolone intestinal elimination has significant clinical relevance for the better evaluation of the influence of this secretory pathway on antibiotic efficacy and selection of resistant bacteria within the intestinal flora.

A nitrification/denitrification process was applied to reject water treatment from sludge dewatering at Bottrop central sludge treatment facilities of the Emschergenossenschaft. On-line monitoring of influent and effluent turbidity, closed loop control of DO and pH, and on-line monitoring of nitrogen compounds were combined to a three level control pattern. Though on-line measurement of substrate and product showed substantial response time it could be used to operate nitrification/denitrification within process boundaries.
