Farmers used to rear turkeys besides chickens especially on the hilly regions of Slovenia near the Croatian Zagorje. Turkeymeat production became more intensive in 1980. After three years turkey production ceased due to increased chicken meat exports. Following the independence, Slovenia lost ex-Yugoslav markets and poultry producers had to diminish the production. Nevertheless, poultry producers wanted to use the available capacities and they started to produce turkey meat. Also a healthy nutrition became popular. Abstract Introduction Turkey histomonosis poses a serious threat to poultry production due to the ban on the use of effective drugs. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of a phytoncidal feed supplement on the course of histomonosis. The preparation was also analysed for immunomodulatory properties. Material and Methods Clinical observations and production monitoring were conducted in a flock of turkeys with histomonosis from their 11th to 56th weeks of life which were treated with the adiCoxSOLPF soluble supplement in a dose of 2.5 mL/L water. Later the preparation was used in a

The world's resources dedicated to fisheries and aquaculture are predicted to remain stable at their maximum utilization rate. Many intensive fish farms with recirculation production systems are needed in order to achieve sustainable output. Combined or integrated production projects are needed for sustainable production and to meet the high demand for food supplies. However, due to a substantial migration problem from rural areas to metropolitan centers, labor may be a concern in the aquaculture business. Turkey is still improving technology in order to maximize resource utilization while min

Histomoniasis is a parasitic disease of poultry with worldwide prevalence, having significant negative impacts on infected turkey health and welfare. A total of 53,000 male fattening turkeys (British United Turkeys, BUT6) of 140-day-old were admitted to the slaughterhouse in central Ukraine. No clinical signs were reported in the turkeys during the production cycle. Slaughtering of the turkeys revealed enlargement of the livers, most of which had a greenish color with alterations in the hepatic tissues (fibrosis). No other gross lesions were noted in other organs of the slaughtered birds. Fres

Abstract:Management of forested habitats for wild turkeys (Meleagris gallapavo) is critical to provide the proper vegetative requirements to improve reproductive success and survival. We investigated the effects of prescribed fire, shelterwood harvest, and wildlife retention cuts on wild turkey habitat in a mixed hardwood forest in eastern Tennessee. Vegetative response, soft and hard mast production, invertebrate availability, and crown expansion were measured. Shelterwood harvest (61–80% density), wildlife retention cut with prescribed fire (61–80%), and wildlife retention cut (41–60%) incre
