Lepage, Mahigan. "François Bon. La fabrique du présent." Thèse, Poitiers, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010POIT0000.
The literary work of French contemporary author François Bon (born in Vendée in 1953) receives increasing critical attention, mainly from academics. However, there seems to be a form of misunderstanding about Bon's work. Critics use the words “realistic” or “socially engaged” to refer to his work, claiming that it is aimed at recovering a “memory”. Set against these generally accepted views, this dissertation asserts the predominance of an esthetics of the immediate present. While many theoreticians have rediscovered in the last decade the heterogeneity of modern temporality, i. E. The interaction of the past, present and future, some contemporary artistic experiments, of which Bon's narrative art is an excellent example, focus on the present alone. Since the immediate present is not immediately given, it requires a construction of words and forms. In the following pages, we will examine this ongoing construction by exploring the problem of discontinuity of the immediate present, a time that Heidegger defines as a tension between “coming” and “going”. If prose can be defined as the art of continuity (Goux), how can one turn a fundamentally disjointed time into a narrative? In order to explore this issue, we analyze most of Bon's texts, from Sortie d'usine (1982) to his most recent digital experiments. We have divided the corpus in three parts as follows: factory and shop writings (first part of the dissertation), landscape writings (second part) and finally city writings (third part). In every case, the analysis aims to reveal the intrinsic coherences (i. E. Established into specific texts) and extrinsic continuities (established between several texts) of Bon's art of the present. Throughout the dissertation, we insist on the political potential of this esthetical effort leading to an appropriation of the temporal area in which the immediacy of our contemporary social practices is in play

Ruiz, Ugo. "Le blog d'écrivain : la littérature à l'épreuve d'Internet." Thesis, Paris 4, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015PA040025.
This study focuses on three blogs kept by writers who have published novels in renowned publishing houses: François Bon, Éric Chevillard and Chloé Delaume. This new writing practice raises the question of whether literature can be transferred to the Internet: does this medium admit literary activity or, on the contrary, does it represent a limit or even a threat to the future of literature? By using theoretical tools from the field of discourse analysis, the study discusses theoretical problems related to the impact of digital media on the perception of genres and on the notion of authorship. First, the study shows that the web does not allow the emergence of literary works, because this process is based on the editorial circuit and the hierarchy between textual categories. The existence of authors in the strongest meaning of the term is also compromised by the web, since the writers establish direct contact with their readers. The writer blog thus implies a dilemma: its success is necessarily to the detriment of a rewarding literary practice that the writer does not want to give up. This double bind is apparent in the way the writers use their blog: Bon wishes to open the literary field to the Internet, Chevillard is defending ”good” literature and Delaume intends to make her blog a performance
Garboury, Diallo Lise. "L'apport de cinq écrivains français à la littérature canadienne-française." Paris 4, 1987. http://www.theses.fr/1987PA040307.
Five French authors who lived in Canada at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century are the subject of this thesis which proposes to study their work and its influence on French Canadian literature. A short biography of each author presented in chronological order is followed by a thematic and stylistic analysis of their works: Henri-Emile Chevalier, la huronne, Scènes de la vie canadienne, 1889 ; Marie le Franc, Hélier fils des bois, 1930, and Visages de Montreal, 1934 ; Georges Bugnet, siraf, Etranges révélations. Ce qu'on pense de nous par-delà la lune, 1934, and La forêt, 1935 ; Louis Hemon, Maria Chapdelaine, 1916 ; and Maurice Constantin-Weyer, un homme se penche sur son passé, 1928. These texts constitute the basis of this research which shows the originality of each author, and the collective vision of Canada and its people these writers had, thus establishing their contribution to French Canadian literature

Jérôme and Jean Tharaud wrote together during more fifty years. This thesis of cultural history, which combines form and content, describes the evolution of two brothers from the beginning of their education to 1924. As Charles Péguy's friends, they shared his initial commitments then they got close to the nationalists Barrès and Déroulède. They participated to the war, they were called by Lyautey to Morocco. They celebrated the French colonization in several of their books, they seemed antisemitic. They are like misori, reflecting nationalist aspirations and fears
Vathaire, Aurélia de. "Les écrivains-planteurs français de caoutchouc en Malaisie, 1905-1957." La Rochelle, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009LAROF026.
Between 1905, arrival of Henri Fauconnier, from Charente, and 1957, independence of the country, some Frenchmen chose to come to Malaya to work in rubber estates. The first plantations founded by Henri Fauconnier merged in 1920s into Socfin group (Societé Financière des Caoutchouc). Amongst these rubber planters, three became novelists. Henri Fauconnier (1879-1973), described in his novel The Soul of Malaya – published and awarded by the Goncourt Prize in 1930 – the adventure and the pioneer spirit of the first Frenchmen who cleared the jungle and planted the first rubber trees. The second one, Pierre Boulle (1912-1994), wrote in 1952 Sacrilege in Malaya. Denouncing the excessive bureaucratization and the rigid hierarchy in the large European plantation companies, he humourisly described the rubber planters’ life in Malaya in the 1930s and 1940s. The third one, Pierre Lainé, was born in 1930. Living in Malaya since 1955, he told in his novel L’Oreiller en Porcelaine (The Porcelain Pillow), the last years of colonial period. These novels, which describe different eras, are written by “writers-rubber planters” and show a common wish to depict Malaya through the rubber plantation world. These Frenchmen were both actors and observers of the British colony’s development. The study of their works and their lives will give an insight of the way they perceive and analyze it

More than an half-century after its end, "the algerian war" continues to inspire the novelists of the both Mediterranean sides. Considered as such (a war) in 1999 by the French parliament , this war makes noise in every literary return.our thesis subject , is going to be a comparative analysis of the Algerian and French fiction writings concerning the Algerian war : how a common historical event can be interpreted in fictions differently? After the reading of French novels, we noticed that it’s always a story of military who goes to war and the description is characterized by such exoticism and astonishment. On the other hand, the Algerian writer couldn’t go beyond the war; it’s always present , as an important event by which we should go through to enter in literature: it’s a « location of memory ». Because of these différents points of views we suggest the reading of the main corpus composed of a set of novels edited in XXI st: Rachid Boudjedra Les figuiers de barbarie (2010), Anouar Benmalek Le Rapt (2009), Jérôme Ferrari Où j’ai laissé mon âme (2010), Laurent Mauvignier Des Hommes (2009). In order to do this work properly , we will add an other corpus to the novels mentioned above which had been published during the first years of the independence to the beginning of the 2000 and that in order to see the evolution of the french and Algerian fiction writing theme
Depoulain, Séverine. "Maurice Barrès, écrivain et journaliste littéraire." Thesis, Université de Lorraine, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012LORR0377/document.
Continuing and supplementing previous work on the relationship between literature and the press in 19th century France, this dissertation presents and examines a selection of articles devoted to literature written by Maurice Barrès between 1883 and 1923. Considering the literary career of the author of Le Roman de l'énergie nationale through his journalistic work, this analysis throws new light on the state of "écrivain-journaliste" in the historical and cultural background of the Belle Époque. Indeed, Barrès appears here as a symbol of a literary generation that built and maintained its enduring legacy in the literary field thanks to its journalistic writing. The press played an educative role for Barrès, allowing him to define the novelist he wished to become. By revealing the reader behind the writer, close readings of Barrès' critical studies and literary chronicles exposes an auctorial "posture" chosen by the artist and offers a genesis of the Barresian sensibility. Press articles thus became a space of self-reflexivity and development for Barrès' literary art. Yet, just as the art of the novelist influenced the poetics of the journalist, a media imagination flourished in the universe of the fiction writer as well. Across all of his writing, then, Barrès created hybrid texts that interrogate the very notion of literature
Auzoux, Amélie. "Le "cosmopolitisme" de Valery Larbaud (1881-1957) : écrivain, critique et traducteur." Thesis, Sorbonne université, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018SORUL126.
Valery Larbaud’s “cosmopolitanism” is a presupposition that must now be sifted through a critical review. The complexity of Valery Larbaud’s work undeniably comes from his treatment of geographical, political, literary and linguistic borders. But to which extent can it be said that this “métis des lettres” – whose métissage still remains carefully calculated – welcomes the Other, or renews the linguistic and literary representation of the stranger? What are the revolutions or counter-revolutions of his cosmopolitanism, whose contradictory features react to contemporary intellectual environment? Larbaud’s cosmopolitanism has become a cliché in the exact photographical sense, offering nothing but an “index” of names or a “kaleidoscope” of images. I argue that it should undergo critical analysis, on the basis of a much more encompassing set of data. Substituting to in vitro approaches of Larbaud’s work taken under glass and out of context the more accurate nuance and movement of in vivo approaches, we aim at offering a thorough historical and critical reading of his work. Larbaud, whose hagiographic criticism has raised above men, is a man of his time, whose image, frozen on glossy paper, must give way to the most nuanced moving portrait
