Srm-3Bi4TimO3m+3 (m =3, 4, 5, and 6) bulk ceramics were prepared by conventional solid-state reaction process. Their phase structures and morphologies were observed by XRD and SEM respectively. The dielectric properties and hysteresis loops of the ceramics were measured by impedance analyzer and hysteresis meter respectively. Results showed that the lattice parameters along the c axis are 32.79, 41.11, 48.83, and 58.17Ǻ for m=3, 4, 5, and 6 respectively. The microstructures of plate-like crystalline phases are shown in all the ceramics with different m. Curie temperature of Srm-3Bi4TimO3m+3 decreases from 668°C to 295°C with increasing m from 3 to 6. The remnant polarizations Pr are 32.46 and 19.44 μC/cm2 for odd m of 3 and 5, and 11.84 and 10.58 μC/cm2 for even m of 4 and 6 respectively.

The Early New English iambic pentameter was re-created by Wyatt and Surrey in the first half of the 16th c. Surrey introduced blank iambic pentameter into English poetry, and the first English tragedy, Gorboduc, was written in this versification form. Early New English playwrights were feeling their way into the iambic meter, and wrote “by the foot”: the mean stressing on even syllables reached 90 percent, while on the odd syllables it fell to 5 percent. The authors of first new English tragedies were members of the parliament or the gentlemen of the City Inns, and they wrote for the aristocratic audience and the Court. Their subject matter and their characters matched the verse form: they were stiff and stilted.Marlowe and Kyd represented a new generation of playwrights who wrote for the commercial stage patronized by commoners. Marlowe and Kyd created different sets of plots and personages and a different versification style. Marlowe’s Tamburlaine and Kyd’s The Spanish Tragedy had a powerful impact on generations of English playwrights, from Shakespeare to Shirley. The particulars of the Earlier New English versification style compared to later Elizabethan dramaturgy are discussed in the presentation.

Even within equitonal isochronous sequences, listeners report perceiving differences among the tones, reflecting some grouping and accenting of the sound events. In a previous study, we explored this phenomenon of �subjective rhythmization� physiologically through brain event-related potentials (ERPs). We found differences in the ERP responses to small intensity deviations introduced in different positions of isochronous sequences, even though all sound events were physically identical. These differences seemed to follow a binary pattern, with larger amplitudes in the response elicited by deviants in odd-numbered than in even-numbered positions. The experiments reported here were designed to test whether the differences observed corresponded to a metrical pattern, by using a similar design in sequences of a binary (long-short) or a ternary (long-short-short) meter. We found a similar pattern of results in the binary condition, but a significantly different pattern in the ternary one. Importantly, the amplitude of the ERP response was largest in positions corresponding to strong beats in all conditions. These results support the notion of a binary default metrical pattern spontaneously imposed by listeners, and a better processing of the first (accented) event in each perceptual group. The differences were mainly observed in a late, attention-dependent component of the ERPs, corresponding to rather high-level processing.

Development of new methods and high-rate means for converting the amplitude of high-frequency periodic signals into a binary code with high speed for solving problems of industrial tomography, radar, radio navigation, during measurements of amplitude-frequency characteristics, measurement of the amplitude of signal generators is relevant in scientific terms and useful in practical applications. The aim of the study was to create a new amplitude meter for high-frequency periodic signals based on the Fibonacci method without converting the AC voltage into an equivalent parameter.Based on the developed algorithm and the equation for converting the amplitude of periodic signals into code using the Fibonacci method, a functional scheme of the amplitude converter has been developed. This made it possible to realize an 8-bit amplitude converter in code on the FPGA Cyclone V series of the Altera company. Amplitude converter of periodic signals into the code based on the Fibonacci method consists of: two comparators, a phase detector, a short pulse shaper, a digital-to-analog converter, a Fibonacci register, an extender, a clock counter, a decoder and an indicator. In the developed meters of the amplitude of the periodic signal, the process of forming the measuring periods and their calculation was applied, this made it possible to avoid the conversion of the alternating voltage into an equivalent parameter. The process of forming measurement periods and their calculation is realized on the basis of a comparator and a counter. The application of the Fibonacci register allowed setting the conversion time at the level of N/f (number of register bits / frequency of the incoming signal). Using the Fibonacci sequence of the pentanacci sequence in the basis of the work of the Fibonacci register allowed obtaining odd code values at its output.Based on the obtained research results, a high-resolution converter of the amplitude of high-frequency periodic signals can be developed into a binary code with high speed for tasks: industrial tomography, radar and radio navigation.

A high data rate RF-DAC and a power detector (PD) are designed and fabricated in a 250 nm indium phosphide (InP) double heterojunction bipolar transistor (DHBT) technology. A communication link using the Tx-Rx over polymer microwave fiber (PMF) is measured. The link consists of a pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) modulator and a PD as a demodulator, as well as a one-meter-long dielectric waveguide. The working frequency range of the complete link is verified to be 110–150 GHz. The peak output power of the PAM modulator is 5 dBm, and it has a −3 dB bandwidth of 43 GHz. The PD consists of a parallel connected common emitter configured transistor and a common base configured transistor to suppress the odd-order harmonics at the PD’s output, as well as a stacked transistor to amplify the output signal. Tx and Rx chips, including pads, occupy a total area of only 0.83 mm2. The PMF link can support a PAM-4 signal with 22 Gbps data transmission, and a PAM-2 signal with 30 Gbps data transmission, with a bit error rate (BER) of <10−12, with demodulation performed in real time. Furthermore, the energy efficiency for the link (Tx + Rx) is 4.1 pJ/bit, using digital data input and receiving PAM-2 output (5.6 pJ/bit for PAM-4).

Background: Metabolic syndrome is a health problem with its prevalence increasing in the worldwide. It is characterized by a group metabolic factor including abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, elevated blood pressure and insulin resistance. Metabolic syndrome affected by changes in lifestyle and unhealthy dietary patterns with high cholesterol, saturated fatty acid and trans fatty acid.Objective: The study conducted to know relationship between fat consumption with metabolic syndrome among adult people in Denpasar city.Method: The case control study designed was applied. The cases were adult people who had metabolic syndrome, and the control was healthy people from the case-neighboring household. Total subject were 130, taken by consecutive sampling: 65 cases and 65 controls. The subject identity, fat intake, waist circumference, blood pressure and fasting blood sugar were collected. The food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was used to measure fat consumption and blood glucose test meter for measuring fasting blood sugar. Mantel Haenzel statistic analysis were used to test the association of fat intake with metabolic syndrome.Result: The study showed that means of syndrome metabolic component in case higher than control (p<0.05). Waist circumference in case was 97.23 cm, blood pressure was 141.4/93.3 mmHg, fasting blood glucose was 132 mg/dl. There were significant difference between intake fat total, cholesterol, saturated fatty acid (SAFA) and frequency of intake in case and control (p<0.05). Intake fat on cases were fat total 85.5% >25% energy total/day, SAFA 90.8% >10%, cholesterol 55.4% >300 mg/day. Odd Ratio Mantel Haenzel analysis showed that fat consumption (fat total, cholesterol and frequency consumption of fat were risk factor to metabolic syndrome (OR >1)).Conclusion: There was significant relations between fat consumption (fat total cholesterol, SAFA, frequency of fat consumption) with metabolic syndrome among adult people for Denpasar City.

BackgroundSarcopenia consists of decreasing muscle strength, muscle mass and physical performance. Muscle wasting is common in chronic inflammatory diseases, such as spondyloarthritis (SpA).ObjectivesThis research aims to determine the prevalence and associated factors of sarcopenia in Thai ankylosing spondylitis patients.MethodsAcross-sectional study was conducted at Phramongkutklao Hospital between January 2020 and February 2021. One hundred and four axial spondyloarthritis (ax-SpA) patients who met the 2009 ASAS criteria were enrolled. Sarcopenia related factors and disease characteristics were recorded. Sarcopenia was diagnosed according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019. Appendicular skeletal muscle mass was measured by antero-posterior dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Strength, Ambulation, Rising from a chair, Stair climbing and history of Falling (SARC-F) was evaluated. Muscle strength was measured by hand grip strength and chair stand time. Physical performance was assessed by 6-meter walk and time up and go tests. Logistic regression was performed to identify factors associated with sarcopenia.ResultsMost patients were male (77%) with the mean (standard deviation: SD) age and disease duration were 42.64 (12.19) and 8.3 (8.5) years. The mean BMI (SD) was 23.80 (4.44). The prevalence of sarcopenia was 22.1%. There was no difference in disease activities (BASDAI and ASDAS) between ax-SpA patients with and without sarcopenia. Factors independently associated with sarcopenia were age and low BMI with the adjusted odd ratios and 95% confidence interval of 27.319 (3.69-202) and 12.517 (1.67-93.76) respectively.ConclusionSarcopenia is common in ax-SpA patients. It is helpful to have a replacement strategy by predicting the number of failures of in-service electricity meters. This paper presents a failure number prediction method for smart electricity meters based on on-site fault data. The prediction model was constructed by combining Weibull distribution with odds ratios, then the distribution parameters, failure prediction number, and confidence intervals of prediction number were calculated. A strategy of meter replacement and reserve were developed according to the prediction results. To avoid the uncertainty of prediction results due to the small amount of field data information, a Bayesian failure number prediction method was developed. The research results have value for making operation plans and reserve strategies for electricity meters.

Abstract. Long-time series of surface currents and meteorological parameters were analysed to estimate the variability of the upper layer circulation as a preliminary study of the Ligurian Air-Sea Interaction Experiment (LASIE07). Current meter data were collected by an upward-looking RDI Sentinel 300 kHz ADCP deployed in the Central Ligurian Sea (43°47.77' N; 9°02.85' E) near the meteo-oceanographic buoy ODAS ITALIA1 for over eight months. The ADCP sampled the upper 50 m of water column at 8 m vertical resolution and 1 h time interval; surface marine and atmospheric hourly data were provided by the buoy. Currents were mainly barotropic and directed NW, according to the general circulation of the area, had a mean velocity of about 18 cm s−1 and hourly mean peaks up to 80 m s−1. Most of the observed variability in the upper thermocline was determined by inertial currents and mesoscale activity due to the presence of the Ligurian Front. Local wind had a minor role in the near-surface circulation but induced internal waves propagating downward in the water column.

Abstract Background Mobility is a cornerstone of healthy aging. Pneumonia may impact mobility through damage to physiological systems as well as increased inflammation, which has been associated with reduced physical functioning. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of pneumonia on objectively measured physical functioning in a sample of older adults. Methods This was a post-hoc analysis of the Lifestyle Interventions and Independence for Elders (LIFE) Study provided by the National Institute on Aging’s AgingResearchBiobank. Participants with pre-existing mobility concerns aged 70-89 years were randomized to physical activity or health education interventions. Outcomes included the ability to complete a 400-meter walk and gait speed (meters/second, m/s) and were assessed every 6 months from baseline up to 42 months. New health events were assessed at each visit including overall pneumonia events and pneumonia hospitalizations. Repeated measures regression models evaluated the ability to walk 400-meters and gait speed as separate outcomes controlling for age, sex, race, education, past medical history, the occurrence of other health events, and a cumulative deficit frailty index. Results There were 1,635 LIFE Study participants with N=9,872 follow-up measures during the study period. Among these, 174 (10.6%) had a pneumonia event which included 96 hospitalization events. Those with pneumonia events during follow-up were mostly similar to those without pneumonia events at baseline, except for higher prevalence of past hospitalizations and respiratory problems. Any pneumonia event was associated with an adjusted mean gait speed of 0.67 (0.63-0.71) m/s vs. 0.70 (0.66-0.73) m/s in those without pneumonia and 0.60 (0.55-0.64) in those with pneumonia hospitalization. Similarly, pneumonia events were associated with 84% [odds ratio = 1.84 (1.45-2.23)] and pneumonia hospitalizations with 200% [odds ratio = 3.00 (2.48-3.52)] increases in the odds of not being able to walk 400-meters compared to those without pneumonia events. Conclusion Pneumonia-related health events were associated with subsequent reduced mobility measured by 400-meter walk tests and gait speed. Preventing pneumonia may be an important component of maintaining physical functioning in older adults. This thesis discloses my exploration of non-isochronous meters through composition and practice. During my two-year studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, I explored different unevenly divided time signatures by practicing them in various ways, producing transcriptions, compositions and arrangements.The main purpose of this project was to further my knowledge and skills within these time signatures and thereby expand my horizon on perceiving, conceptualizing, composing and playing them. My endeavors culminated in seven original compositions, arranged for a jazz sextet, which I rehearsed and performed with an ensemble. During the process of composing, arranging, practicing and rehearsing, I gained a lot of articulated knowledge as well as embodied knowledge of the idiosyncrasies of various non-isochronous meters and different ways to perceive and play them.

The thesis deals with the history of the alliterative long line from Old English to both early and late Middle English, and demonstrates that the differences between the metrical systems of those periods are explicable in their entirety by the historical changes in the linguistic prosody rather than a discontinuity of the alliterative tradition. The first three chapters of the thesis examine the alliterative metre in Old English (primarily on the basis of Beowulf), early Middle English (primarily on the basis of Layamon's Brut), and late Middle English (primarily on the basis of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Morte Arthure, and the Siege of Jerusalem). The discussions pay particular attention to those points that are subsequently used in the historical reconstruction presented in the final chapter. At the same time, each of the period chapters aims to provide a coherent systemic formulation of the particular metre. The chief method employed by the study is the standard procedure of matching the linguistic and metrical data, as described in the introduction. The historical reconstruction is based on the premise that in particular types of poetic environments certain changes in the linguistic prosody will automatically result in a restructuring of the metrical system. The premise leads to a new version of the history of English alliterative poetry based on the concrete evidence of the extant texts.

I examine those linguistic features of Old English and Old Norse which serve as the basic elements for the metrical systems of those languages. I begin with a critical survey of recent work on Old English metrical theory in chapter 1, which suggests that the four-position and word-foot theories of metre are the most viable current frameworks. A further conclusion of this chapter is that stress is not, as is often claimed, a core element of the metre. In chapter 2, I reassess the phonological-metrical phenomenon of Kaluza's law, which I find to be much more regular and widely applicable within Bēowulf than has previously been recognized. I further argue that the law provides evidence that Old English phonological foot structure is based on a preference for precise bimoraism. In chapter 3, I examine the role of syllables in the Norse Eddic metre fornyrðislag, which supports a view of resolution and phonological feet similar to that found in Old English, though Norse prosody is much more tolerant of degenerate, light feet. I reconsider the other major Eddic metre, ljóðaháttr, in chapter 4, integrating the insights of Andreas Heusler and Geoffrey Russom to propose a new system of scansion for this notoriously recalcitrant verse form. This scansion provides important support for the word-foot theory, and suggests that linguistic elements larger than syllables or phonological feet play a crucial role in early Germanic verse. In the final chapter, I give a diachronic account of Germanic metre and relevant linguistic structures, arguing that the word-foot theory provides the best metrical framework for understanding the development of Germanic alliterative verse. This metrical system is linguistically supported by Germanic word structures and compounding rules, and interacts with bimoraic phonological feet, all of which have a long history in Proto- and pre-Germanic.

Uppsatsen undersöker Twilight, skriven av Stephenie Meyer, utifrån de intersektionella kategorierna ålder, kön och klass i förhållande till relationen mellan protagonisterna Bella och Edward. Syftet med undersökningen är att ta reda på hur ålder, kön och klass påverkar relationen. Vidare syftar uppsatsen till att undersöka hur ålder, kön och klass påverkar maktförhållandet i relationen utifrån Foucaults maktteori. Resultatet visar att ålder, kön och klass genomgående i Twilight försätter Bella i en underordnad maktposition, med några få undantag. Många normer gällande de tre kategorierna reproduceras i relationen mellan Bella och Edward, vilket i sin tur ger upphov till en maktobalans. Med anledning av detta resultat bör Twilight läsas kritiskt ur ett intersektionellt perspektiv, men kan med fördel användas i klassammanhang för att belysa och ifrågasätta normer rörande t. ex. ålder, kön och klass.

Este trabalho consiste de uma tradução versificada de A Batalha de Maldon, poema anglo-saxão no metro tradicional, composto no século X-XI a respeito da batalha homônima entre dinamarqueses e anglo-saxões. Seu pressuposto fundamental é um estudo das abordagens de tradução aplicáveis à poesia germânica antiga para a produção de uma versão anotada em português, com a qual se procura reconstituir as características do poema antigo. Esta abordagem leva aos argumentos finais acerca desta possibilidade, em especial no que diz respeito à aliteração em português.
This work consists in a verse translation from the Anglo-saxon of The Battle of Maldon, old English poem written between the 10th and 11th centuries about the battle between Danes and Saxons. The main goal is the study of different translation theories which are related to the old Germanic poetic tradition as a mean to provide a Portuguese language annotated version where the poem\'s traits are reconstructed. This procedure leads to the final argument, on the possibility of achieving alliteration in Portuguese.

This study occurred in the area of Coroico at 1700 meters above sea level and in the community of Carmen Pampa, situated at 1850 meters above sea level. Coroico is the capital of Nor Yungas province, department of La Paz. This study hopes to contribute information on reference values for erythrocyte numbers, hemoglobin values, and hematocrits for people between 15 and 60 years old that live between 1700 and 1850 meters above sea level, with the goal of facilitating precise diagnosing of anemia. The study used samples of healthy people, residents with more than two months in Coroico, of middle socioeconomic situation. They were selected by correlating the factors that could influence the values higher or lower, and finally results were obtained for a complete hemogram through an electronic instrument. Hematometric indexes were taken in order to exclude people with any type of anemia. In order to interpret the results, a coefficient correlation was applied with measurements of the average, standard deviation (SD), and 2 SD to define the reference limits for both men and women. Finally, they were compared with the values established for La Paz (3600 meters above sea level) and Santa Cruz (420 meters above sea level). A statistical z-test was used to obtain the differences. The results obtained reject the alternative hypothesis with relation to values in the Santa Cruz population because there is not a significant difference. The alternative hypothesis was accepted with relation to the values from La Paz's population because of a significant difference. Thus the values obtained are similar to the established values for Santa Cruz.

This thesis discusses the theory and application of a variety of statistical methods for addressing specific problems, which arise in medical research. The thesis focuses on three data sets that are used as case studies. These data sets contain information on heart disease surgical outcomes and aortic valve allograft survival. An overview of statistical methods for risk stratification and survival analysis is provided. A new method of outcome specific pruning of classification trees for risk stratification of rare events is discussed, applied and interpreted for one of the case studies. Applications for survival analysis are illustrated with Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses and interpreted for the remaining two case studies. The outputs for this research include technology transfer of statistical skills and methods to a medical research community. Development of a new method for better stratifying rare events, statistical analysis and interpretation of data are directly applicable to cardiac surgery practices at The Prince Charles Hospital.

Both can be true thanks to André Benjamin’s brilliant use of mixed meter, a rhythmic technique that disrupts the steady flow of time while also providing an irresistibly funky soundtrack for dance. The song begins with three measures of four-beat meter. This pattern repeats three times, but then a rogue measure of two beats interrupts the prevailing four-beat meter. As quickly as it appears, the odd-man-out measure of two disappears, and the song moves back to four-beat meter. The result is a song that captivates and unsettles listeners at the same time.

Abstract Flexibility requirements for long length tubes (1000–10,000 meters) are driven not only by in-service environments, but also restrictions on the outer dimensions of a package destined for transport. Long lengths of tube are required to be spooled onto reels with small inner diameters. The ratio of tube outer diameter to the spooling diameter provides an estimate of the flexure strain. For example, a 50 mm OD tube spooled onto a 1 meter ID reel would impose 5% strain in the tube during storage. In extreme oilfield downhole environments, the flexible tube must not only survive the required extension, but also resist chemical attacks at elevated temperatures while maintaining pressure gradients across the tube wall and sustaining tensile loads.

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of special training means for young 400-meter hurdles (15-16 year-old girls) and their distribution in the annual training cycle at the stage of in-depth training. The authors investigated the effectiveness of the use of motor tasks simulating the functional state of athletes in the training of young hurdlers. The data obtained during the study convincingly indicate the advantage of the method proposed by the authors to improve the special physical fitness of 16-year-old runners, this is especially noticeable in the results shown at the end of the year. At the same time, at the initial segments of the distance (the first 5 barriers), the results are approximately the same, and, starting from the second half, there is a clear superiority of the participants of the experimental group over the runners of the control group. As a result of research, the authors revealed that the use of special physical training for young runners at 400 meters with barriers with a gradual increase in motor potential in the required modes of competitive activity proceeds against the background of the phased introduction into the program of new, more powerful means with a simultaneous increase in their volumes consistent use in macrocycles of various exercises of uniform preferential orientation (speed-force and speed) on the one hand and a gradual increase in running speed over distance segments.

Large ground-based telescope projects are currently underway that require primary mirrors as large as 8.4 meters in diameter and as fast as f/1. Since the primary mirrors are concave, they can be interferometrically measured from center of curvature using null correctors. The secondary mirrors for these giant telescopes are often convex, steeply aspheric, and large (up to 1.7 m in diameter) making them much more difficult to measure. To achieve the highest possible image quality, the mirrors must be polished to the correct shape within 20 nm rms, so they should be measured to an accuracy of 10 nm rms.

Abstract In order to extend the life cycle of the developed oilfield and ensure the stable production of the oilfield, the exploration and practice of supplementary energy refracturing has been carried out in a small block in eastern China which is on the verge of shutdown since 2017. All of the well in this block are vertical wells. This technology breaks the injection production relationship of the original well pattern. The injection wells and production wells are fractured at the same time. Fracturing fluid is not only used for fracturing, but also for supplementing formation energy. In order to produce more new fractures and make them more complex, low viscosity slippery water is used in hydraulic fracturing. It ensures that the material cost is reduced while the amount of fracturing fluid is increased. In addition, the multi-stage proppant combination is used to support all levels of fractures, which improves the conductivity of all levels of fractures. During the implementation of refracturing, the amount of fluid used in single layer is gradually increased, from 2300 to 3500 cubic meters, the maximum amount of fracturing fluid injected in single layer is 10000 cubic meters, and the proportion of slippery water is increased from 80% to 95%. The proppant is composed of 100/140 mesh and 40/70 mesh ceramic proppant, with an average sand content of 97.7 cubic meters per layer. From the perspective of construction data, after increasing the amount of fracturing fluid used in single well, the average pump stopping pressure of the later batch of construction wells is increased by 3.5 Mpa and the construction pressure is increased by 4.5MPa. After adding temporary plugging agent, the average construction pressure increased by 1.8 MPa, and the opening characteristics of new joints were obvious. After refracturing, all test wells are produced by automatic injection production, the total number of automatic injection production days is 5.2 times of the initial fracturing, and the cumulative oil production is 1.5 times of the initial fracturing. Through practice, the original injection production relationship is broken. Increasing the amount of fracturing fluid can not only supplement the formation energy, but also improve the complexity of fractures. The multi-stage proppant slug can significantly improve the conductivity of fractures at all levels, prolong the life cycle of old wells, and provide technical support for multi thin layer reconstruction.

<p>The Swan Street Bridge is a reinforced concrete five-span arch bridge crossing the Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia. Constructed circa 1950, it provided four lanes of traffic and narrow pedestrian footpaths on both sides. The bridge forms part of a key route for vehicular access into the Central Business District, as well as pedestrian thoroughfare to the sporting and events precinct.</p><p>Substantial increases in traffic volumes meant the bridge had become a significant bottleneck and was hazardous for pedestrians. In response to this, a scheme was developed to widen the bridge – providing an additional lane of traffic and four-metre-wide Shared User Paths on both sides – all guided by an overlaying architectural vision created by the winner of a design competition.</p><p>This paper presents the structural technical solutions adopted for the strengthening and widening, which considered the original structural design, as well as the architectural intent for the widening.</p>

ABSTRACT The development of motor abilities is a permanent physical education task. Its undertaking ensures the formation and further development of several physical and individual qualities, which are a prerequisite for students acquiring the skills necessary for sustainable self-improvement and leading a healthy lifestyle. Completing this task requires knowledge of the changes and peculiarities in the manifestation of motor abilities, which in turn requires continuous monitoring of the peculiarities in the manifestation of motor abilities to improve the methodology, means, and modes of their development. Based on the above statements, the dynamics in the manifestation of motor quality speed in girls between 12 and 15 years old were set out to be studied. To achieve the aim, the following tasks were set: 1. Research the problem based on literature sources. 2. Testing with 30-meter-race test of the 12 – 15 years old schoolgirls. 3. Analysis of testing results and identification of the peculiarities in the dynamics of manifestation of speed. The test results were processed through the SPSS v. 20 software product. The resulting data was analyzed statistically by variance and comparative analysis. After processing and analyzing the study results, many changes in the speed performance of 12-15 years old schoolgirls were found. As essential in this direction are the changes within a school year, which allow recommendations for the work of the Physical Education and Sports teachers to be made.

Basing on the 3D-steady Navier-Stokes equations with standard k-ε turbulence closure models, non-structure mesh with fitted body coordinate and finite element based finite volume method, the internal flow on the full passage of the 6.5-meters head fixed blade propeller water turbine is analyzed. Numerical results show that the low output is caused by unsuitable full passage. The flow on the stay vanes isn’t uniform and the circumferential velocity of the runner rim is too large, which leads to a high loss in the draft tube. So the runner and partial stay vanes in the concrete spiral casing are redesigned. The output of the full passage with new runner and new partial stay vanes under 6.5-meters head is 295KW larger than the old one with 240KW output, and the efficiency is 81%, which is larger than former 70%. The redesign of runner and stay vanes is successful.

This one year exploratory project investigated hydraulic architecture of apple dwarfing rootstocks. The hypothesis was that hydraulic conductance is correlated with rootstock vigor. A previous study of trees on three rootstocks in Israel showed that dwarfed trees used less water than un-dwarfed trees. Analysis showed that if the tree maintains leaf water potentials above minimum values, then this implies that the dwarfed trees have lower leaf conductance, which may also be the cause of dwarfing. The current project studied small 2-year old unworked rootstock trees, and full sized trees bearing commercial yields. In both cases hydraulic conductance was determined with two methods - the non-destructive evaporative flux (EF)-leaf water potential (L WP) method, and a destructive method in which water was forced through the plant at known pressure using the "high pressure flow meter" (HPFM). Detailed work allowed measurement of conductance of the rootstock-scion union. This was achieved both with the HPFM and with the EF-LWP methods, the former in the US and the latter in Israel. Direct measurements of leaf conductance were made, and carbon isotope ratios ( d ¹³ C) were determined for leaves sampled at the end of the season. The latter can indicate sustained differences in leaf conductance behavior. HPFM and EF-LWP methods did not give the same results. In the small plants results were similar in magnitude, but not significantly correlated. In large trees, EF- L WP measurements were a fraction of those obtained with the HPFM. The latter indicates that some of the xylem is not normally functional but transports water when pressurized. Additional experimental work targeted this result. Xylem was stained before and after perfusion with water at high pressure. This showed that at least for one rootstock a significant amount of xylem was blocked before perfusion. The "air method" for determining xylem vessel properties was improved and employed. Length, radius and density of xylem vessels of different rootstocks were found to be similar, and significant differences found were not clearly related to rootstock vigor. Measurements in the commercial orchard in Israel showed that the graft union in a dwarfing rootstock was a large obstacle for water transport (i.e. had a high resistance). This apparently led to low leaf conductance to water vapor, as indicated by lower d ¹³ C, which implies low internal CO ₂ concentrations. In the US orchard, d ¹³ C in 2001 was correlated with rootstock vigor, and significant differences were found in leaf conductance. However, the d ¹³ C differences were not observed in 2002, were opposite to those found in the Israeli orchard, and measurements of the graft union with the HPFM did not find large resistances. We speculate that the graft union is not necessarily a large impediment to water transport unless the scion starts to separate from the rootstock. It was concluded that significant differences in hydraulic conductance exist between different dwarfing rootstocks. These differences may be caused by differences in xylem properties and in the degree of cavitation, as well as resistance in the graft union. However, no general relationship to rootstock vigor was found. Therefore, hydraulic conductance alone cannot explain dwarfing, but may be one of two or more factors that lead to dwarfing. Future work should integrate more factors with hydraulic relations, e.g. nutrient and solute transport and production of hormones.
