Анотація:

This study aimed to compare the neuromuscular activation of selected core musculature in supine and prone bridge exercises under stable versus suspended conditions. Forty-three healthy male participants were recruited to measure the electromyographic activities of the rectus abdominis (RA), lumbar multifidus (LM), thoracic erector spinae (TES), rectus femoris (RF), gluteus maximus (GM), and biceps femoris (BF) during supine and prone bridge exercises under six conditions: control, both arms and feet on the floor (Pronecon and Supinecon); arms on the floor and feet on the suspension system (Prone-Feetsuspension and Supine-Feetsuspension); and arms on the suspension system and feet on the floor (Prone-Armsuspension and Supine-Armsuspension). Prone-Armsuspension yielded significantly higher activities in the RA, RF, TES, and LM than Prone-Feetsuspension (p < 0.01) and Pronecon (p < 0.001). Moreover, Supine-Feetsuspension elicited significantly higher activities in the RA, RF, TES, LM, and BF than Supine-Armsuspension (p < 0.01) and Supinecon (p < 0.001). Furthermore, Supine-Feetsuspension elicited significantly higher activities in the RF, TES, and BF than Supinecon (p < 0.01). Therefore, if the RA and/or RF were the target training muscles, then Prone-Armsuspension was recommended. However, if the TES, LM, and/or BF were the target training muscles, then Supine-Feetsuspension was recommended.

Анотація:

Flood is considered to be a major natural disaster occurrence that affects human existence and the environment in many parts of the world. The objective of this study is to analyze the flood-prone areas and determine their spatial locations using GPS and also determine the causes of flooding in the study area through questionnaires. To achieve this, primary source data like fieldwork was used and secondary source data like administration of questionnaires was also used. A Survey of 120 randomly sampled respondents was conducted in different flood-prone locations and 100 responded. The data obtained from the questionnaires was analyzed for the determination of the flood-prone areas in Ota, Ogun State. The result reveals that human activities like the dumping of refuse in drainage, bad road network, lack of proper drainage is majorly responsible for the areas to be at risk of flood prone. It was recommended that the government should create public awareness and sensitization campaigns should be embarked on to prevent the occurrence of this hazardous event in the future.

Анотація:

Many residents in flood-prone areas Bojonegoro have chosen to remain occupying their house, to keep working and performing productive activities in the flood-prone areas. This phenomenon raises a question about “Resident’s resilience in flood-prone areas”. The research subjects are citizens of Bojonegoro from six flood-prone districts, namely: Dander, Bojonegoro, Kanor, Trucuk, Ngringinrejo and Baureno. Data collection is conducted by observation, interviews, and focused group discussion. This research confirmed the theory of Resilience from Grotberg (1995) on the citizens of Bojonegoro, where people living in floodprone areas have developed preparations and certain activities in order to manage the flood in their living areas every moonson.

Trata-se de relato de experiência sobre capacitação da equipe de enfermagem em uma Unidade Terapia Intensiva de um hospital privado de grande porte de São Paulo. Participaram das ações educativas 100 profissionais de enfermagem no mês de março de 2020. As capacitações abordaram os seguintes temas: posição prona e seus benefícios, utilização de curativos multicamadas (face e proeminências ósseas) e coxins para alívio e redistribuição da pressão, gerenciamento de circuitos e dispositivos e técnica de reposicionamento nadador. Introduction. The supine and prone sling exercise may facilitate activation of the local trunk muscles. Does the side-lying sling exercise activate trunk muscles more easily than the supine and prone training with sling settings? Clinical work has shown that the side-lying sling exercise could reduce pain in patients with unilateral low back pain (LBP), but the mechanism behind it is unclear. The fundamental purpose of this preliminary study was to examine the electromyography (EMG) characteristics of trunk muscles during different sling lumbar settings on sixteen healthy adults. Methods. Amplitude and mean power frequency (MPF) of EMG signals were recorded from the transversus abdominis (TA), rectus abdominis (RA), multifidus (MF), erector spinae (ES), gluteus maximus (Gmax), and gluteus medius (Gmed) muscles while the subjects performed the supine lumbar setting (SLS), prone lumbar setting (PLS), left side-lying lumbar setting (LSLS), and right side-lying lumbar setting (RSLS). Results. During SLS and PLS, TA and MF showed significantly higher activity than RA and ES on the same side, respectively. The EMG activities of ES, TA, MF, Gmax, and Gmed had significant differences between the different sides during LSLS and RSLS, and the dominant-side muscles showed higher activity than the other side. There was no significant difference in core trunk muscles between different sling lumbar settings—only that the SLS of the MF/ES ratio was significantly higher than LSLS and RSLS. Conclusions. Sling exercises can be an effective measure to enhance MF and TA EMG activity, and the side-lying position can increase dominant-side Gmax and Gmed activity. Side-lying sling training does not activate more core muscles than the supine and prone training. Supine and prone exercise should be preferred over SLT to stabilize the lumbar region because of its high local/global muscle ratio.

Анотація:

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between boredom proneness and some solitary sexual activities among adults such as masturbating and viewing pornographic films. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that sexual unsatisfaction and boredom proneness were significant predictors of people's engaging in such activities, and the analysis of variance revealed that highly boredom-prone individuals were more likely to engage in such solitary sexual practices than were lower boredom-prone individuals.

This research deals with the issue of diagnosing the readiness of social services workers to implement gender-sensitive approach to working with offence-prone juveniles. As a subject of such diagnosis, we have determined a corresponding professional readiness – social service specialist’s theoretical and instrumental mastery of a sum of methods, means and techniques, and also offence-prone juvenile resocialization algorithms that are based on gender-sensitive approach. Criterion basis for researching the readiness state of social services specialists for gender-sensitive activities with offence-prone juveniles (motivation criterion: aiming towards success in the profession; ability to implement professional aims, notably to work with juvenile offenders; cognitive criterion: knowledge of legal and regulatory framework of Ukraine, primarily international documents that protect the rights of orphaned children and children deprived of parental care, notably the juvenile offenders, which were ratified by Ukraine; knowledge regarding non-discriminatory approach to social work with offence-prone juveniles; theoretical and practical knowledge and abilities, which are necessary during resocialization of juveniles based on gender-sensitive approach; operation-activity criterion: ability to analyze, predict, develop and carry out social projects and technologies aimed at social-pedagogical accompaniment based on gender-sensitive approach; ability to carry out social-pedagogical accompaniment of juveniles, taking into account non-discriminatory approach) was justified. The result of diagnostics that was carried out for social services specialists shows mostly medium and low levels of readiness practically by all indexes, “blind spots” and contemporary challenges of such preparation were defined. It was proven that such preparation must be based on pervasive approach and the concept of constant professional growth, raising qualification and life-long education. AbstractThis research was conducted to analyze theimplementation and supervision of Islamic education inone of the conflict prone areas namely Central Lampungof Lampung Province. This research is a qualitativeresearch with a descriptive approach. In this study, fourMadrasah Tsanawiyah in conflict-prone areas in CentralLampung have been used as the research subjects andinformants. Samples were taken by purposive samplingand data were analyzed with qualitative analysis. Theresults of this study found out that there were nosignificant differences from the process of educationimplementation and supervision in conflict-prone areasand low-conflict areas in Central Lampung. The thingthat distinguishes between the two is in terms ofmanaging extracurricular activities which in low-proneareas tend to direct more extracurricular activities in thecultivation of Islam, even making the generalextracurricular become Islamic nuances. BACKGROUND: Nurses have the risk of ergonomic hazards in providing nursing care, especially with increasingly dynamic health services such as during Coronavirus disease-19 pandemic like today. AIM: The aim of the study was to evaluate activities prone to produce ergonomic risks during the implementation of nursing care in intensive care and emergency room (ER) of a hospital in Riau, Indonesia. METHODOLOGY: This study was conducted by observing the routine activities conducted by the nurses and using similar task group techniques equipped with Rapid Entire Body Assessment instrument. Those observed activities were obtained from 17 intensive care room nurses and ten ER nurses. There were six activities observed in the intensive care room: Bathing, transferring the patient, wounds dressing, taking blood samples for the AGDA examinations, as well as inserting the intravenous needle and electrocardiograms. Meanwhile, there were two activities observed in the ER: Transferring the patient and inserting the intravenous needle. RESULTS: The highest ergonomic risks activity in the intensive care room was bathing the patient with a total score of 13. At the ER, the highest risk score was transferring the patient with a total score of 12. Both activities were at level 4, indicating a high-risk condition. Thus, examinations and changes should be immediately initiated. CONCLUSION: The results are significant to be paid attention by the related parties at the hospital to facilitate some improvements immediately. In addition, the ergonomic approaches that can be suggested to the nurses are regular stretching, physical exercises, and applying ergonomic principles while working.

Forest and land fires in Indonesia have become an annual occurrence in every dry season. The government's effort to overcome this is by issuing a peat restoration policy at the end of 2015. Although several peat restoration activities have been implemented, fires still occur every year so that they require effective handling and coordination of the implementation of peat restoration activities. This study aims to determine peatland restoration activities and the phenomenon of land and forest fires in Lukun Village, Tebing Tinggi Timur Sub District, Kepulauan Meranti Regency. The research method was carried out using a qualitative approach. Data were collected with careful observation, including detailed descriptions in context accompanied by in-depth interview notes, as well as document studies. The results show that land and forest fires occur every year, while peatland restoration activities have been carried out since 2017 including rewetting, revegetation, and revitalizing people's livelihoods, but restoration activities are not much done in land and forest prone to burning in the village while land fires and forests continue to occur in areas prone to fire

Tasikmalaya Regency is an area that is prone to landslides and ground movements. The availability of comprehensive and accurate information in controlling land use for regional development in areas prone to landslides and ground movements is very important for casualty prevention and other losses such as physical, social and economic. This information must be disseminated to the public as an early warning system to support disaster mitigation efforts. Identification of the characteristics of landslide and ground movement prone areas requires the mapping of risk areas to mitigate disasters. This can be done using Geographic Information System (GIS). This mapping activity was carried out using the method of collecting digital data from five vulnerability controlling factors of landslides and ground movements, namely rainfall, rock type, soil type, land cover and slope. The analysis is continued by weighting the factors that influence landslides and ground motion and then overlaying the five controlling factor maps (with their respective weight values) to produce a landslides and ground movement vulnerability level map which is then inputted into WebGIS. This map can then be used by local governments and the public as an information medium to support disaster mitigation activities.

As the volcano tour grows, the number of visitors has increased but the daily routines of the local community have remained unchanged instead of drastically shifting to the tourism sector. Considering the importance of natural resources for tourism development, the joint utilization of them has created multiple overlapping functionalities. This research aims to assess the utilization of natural resources in disaster-prone areas for tourism activities. The study engaged a descriptive qualitative method with purposive and snowballing methods. The results showed some groupings of natural resources utilization based on the typology of goods and services, the disaster-prone locations, and abundant exploitation in their usage. The proposed management aimed to maintain their sustainable benefits either for supporting the tourism activities or the others.

Five integrated pest management (IPM) programs for landscape plants were conducted by extension specialists at the University of Maryland between 1980 and 1982. An analysis of the insect, disease, and cultural problems of more than 30,000 plants revealed certain genera to be far more problem prone than others. Genera such as Malus, Pyracantha, Cornus, Prunus, and Rosa tended to be problem prone in almost all programs while Viburnum, Taxus, and Forsythia were relatively problem free in the mid-atlantic United States. By identifying the problem prone "key plants" in a landscape within a region, the implementation of sound pest management programs can be facilitated greatly. Management activities such as monitoring pests and applying controls can be concentrated on relatively few plants. Furthermore, an awareness of the pest prone plants allows landscape designers to create landscapes with fewer pests and lower long-term maintenance costs.

The susceptibility evaluation zoning of geo-hazards in Huangling County is performed using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. The evaluation result is divided into three degrees.Study area is divided into high-prone, middle- prone and low –prone. Geo-hazard high-prone areas is mainly distributed in Juhe River valley and Koujia River valley where have loess slope or slope in alternating layers of thin layered semi-hard hard rock and middle layered hard rock,and widely disturbance to geological environment from the construction of city, town, road , railway and so on.

Abstract Landslides have a record of deadliest impact in Indonesia during 2015 – 2017. Landslide may be caused by human activities which deteriorate the environment condition such as by reconstructing the landscapes that may reduce the ecological functions. Therefore, mapping the landslide-prone area is necessary as one of the efforts to mitigate the disaster that could be following. The methods used in this study are the landscape metrics with FRAGSTATS 4.2. and Index Storie. Landscape metrics is useful to map the landscape pattern while the Index Storie can be used to map the landslide-prone area, both Indexes then being used for further analysis to determine the relationship between landscape patterns and landslide-prone areas in the study area. Deforestation in the study area is indicated by the values of PD, LPI, and IJI, the Index Storie shows that areas of moderate landslide-prone areas dominate the study area and have specific characteristics that trigger the landslides. A combination of landscape metrics and Index Storie show that the relationship between landscape patterns and landslide-prone areas can be one of the priorities determining tools used for monitoring and planning land cover as an effort to mitigate landslides.

Background: Soft tissue attenuation artifacts are the most common cause of misinterpretation in myocardial perfusion Imaging (MPI). Few studies assessing the value of prone imaging in women have been published. Breast attenuation artifacts can be present in up to 40% of the MPI studies in women. Objectives: This study aimed at evaluating the potential impact of prone MPI on breast attenuation, with a critical analysis of activity optimization and breast size influence. Methods: MPI of an Anthropomorphic Torso Phantom with silicone breast prostheses and equivalent adipose tissue was compared to a standard MPI database. Results: A medical qualitative and semiquantitative analysis demonstrated higher uptake in the LV anterior segments in the prone position for all injected activities. An artificial myocardium lesion was diagnosable in the right segment in all images, which shows that prone positioning would not mask a true lesion and it assists the cardiologist with a more accurate analysis. These results showed that it is possible to optimize the activity to be injected by up to 55.6% when using combined supine-prone images. Conclusion: Prone position has a high impact on the interpretation of MPI in female patients since it reduces the breast attenuation artifacts, and optimizes the radiation protection of the patient and all staff involved in the procedure, making it more cost-effective.

Soil enzyme activities in different plantation types and land use patterns could indicate changes in soil quality. This research was aimed at exploring the dynamics of soil enzyme activities involved in carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycling, and their responses to changes in soil physicochemical properties resulting from natural vegetation restorations and plantation schemes. Knowing about the effects of soil physicochemical properties on soil enzyme patterns is crucial for understanding ecosystem functions and processes. The study selected four main land-use types (natural forestland, natural grassland, artificial forestland, and artificial grassland) and one control plot (bare land) in the West Qinling Mountains, China, which is a typical landslide region. We collected the soil samples from each land use type and tested their physicochemical properties and enzyme activities compared with control land. The results showed that both natural vegetation restoration and artificial plantation schemes have significant effects on enzyme activities. Soil physicochemical properties explained 92.2% of the variation in soil enzyme activities for natural vegetation restoration, while it only explained 77.8% of the variation in soil enzyme activities for plantation schemes. Furthermore, natural vegetation had a greater effect than the plantation schemes on soil enzyme activities.

This study seeks to explore stakeholders’ perceptions, causes, and effects of extreme climatic events, such as droughts and floods, in the Wa West District of Ghana’s Upper West Region. A multi-stage sampling procedure is used to select 184 respondents. Data collection methods include individual questionnaire administration, focus group discussions, and a stakeholders’ forum in the Wa West District Assembly. While frequencies are used to show respondents’ perceptions of the severity of climate change effects, a treatmenteffect model is used to determine the factors influencing farmers’ choices of on-farm coping strategies over off-farm activities in both periods of drought and flood. Findings are the following: farmers perceive that climate change is real and has severe consequences. Consequently, they resort to both on-farm and off-farm strategies to cope with the effects of climate change. While men mostly adopt the former, women adopt the latter. Both strategies are, however, not viable for taking them out of poverty, though offfarm activities are more effective. Education and extension services are other important factors influencing the choice of coping strategies as well as farmers’ welfare. Farmers must be supported with more viable income-earning activities, ones that can take them out of poverty. Women should be given priority. Access to education and extension services must also be stepped up to facilitate the adoption of the coping strategies and to increase welfare.

The front-end phase is in the literature generally regarded as the most critical phase of the innovation process. Front-end management has a strategic nature since important decisions related e.g. to target markets and the main functionalities of products are done in the front-end phase. This article examines how the integration of strategic and operative level front-end activities is perceived by top managers in the product innovation context. The findings indicate that companies exploit different strategy-making processes, and that each strategy-making mode is prone to particular integration challenges. The results show that the effectiveness of integration of strategic and operative level front-end activities is dependent on the level of concreteness of the defined business strategies, the amount of business-minded decision making, and the balance between control and creativity.

A number of furanose (2,4) and pyranose (5,7,9,11,13) acetates were prepared by direct acetylation method. For comparative antimicrobial studies sucrose octaacetate (14) was also prepared. All the compounds (1-14) were screened for in vitro antibacterial activity against ten human pathogenic bacteria viz. Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus megaterium, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, INABA ET (Vibrio), Pseudomonas species, Salmonella paratyphi, Salmonella typhi and Shigella dysenteriae. These compounds were also screened for in vitro antifungal activity against four pathogenic fungi viz. Aspergillus niger, Alternaria alternata, Curvularia lunata and Fusarium equiseti. The study revealed that the pyranose acetate derivatives (5,7,9,11,13) are more prone towards antimicrobial functionality than those of the furanose acetates (2,4) and sucrose octaacetate (14). The administrative territory of Cluj–Napoca, due to its specific geological and geomorphological characteristics and anthropic activities, has been affected for a long time by landslides. Thus, it becomes necessary to analyse affected areas with different spatial methods, with the aim of generating landslide susceptibility maps. In this research, we studied the most prone area of the city, the Becaș stream watershed, situated in the Southern part of the municipality. The aim of this paper is to generate a valid susceptibility map, to be able to raise awareness about the existing situation: due to human induced activities and rapid urban growth, the peripheral part of Cluj–Napoca becomes more and more prone to mass–movements. We used the maximum entropy (MaxEnt) model, which was fed with accurate information on the existing landslides and seven landslide–causing factors: slope, aspect, land–use, depth of fragmentation, geology and plan– and profile curvature. The results confirm that the most influential factors are the land use and slope–angle, affected in a large degree by human activities. The accuracy of the generated map was verified using the AUC method, proving a very good performance (0.844) of the applied model.

Flooding is an environmental hazard that needs appropriate measures to be instituted to stem the tide of occurrence. The study relied on previous academic/scholarly articles in achieving the aim. It was noted in the study that flooding is caused by natural and human activities. For instance, excessive rainfall, terrain and nature of soils are natural causes of flooding. Furthermore, poor environmental planning/monitoring, housing development in flood prone areas, deforestation, haphazard developments resulting in the blockage of drains, poor waste disposal practices, negligence by government in designing and implementing policies at various levels as well as poor environmental planning and weak enforcement of policies contribute to flood occurrence. To this end, the present study suggested that government should ensure that environmental management policies are properly enforced in the country. Equally, development control activities should be taken seriously to avoid erecting developments on flood plains and flood prone areas. Finally, regular environmental education should be given priority in the society.

A well-known approach for identifying defect-prone parts of software in order to focus testing is to use different kinds of product metrics such as size or complexity. Although this approach has been evaluated in many contexts, the question remains if there are further opportunities to improve test focusing. One idea is to identify other types of information that may indicate the location of defect-prone software parts. Data from software inspections, in particular, appear to be promising. This kind of data might already lead to software parts that have inherent difficulties or programming challenges, and in consequence might be defect-prone. This article first explains how inspection and product metrics can be used to focus testing activities. Second, we compare selected product and inspection metrics commonly used to predict defect-prone parts (e.g. size and complexity metrics, inspection defect content metrics, and defect density metrics). Based on initial experience from two case studies performed in different environments, the suitability of different metrics for predicting defect-prone parts is illustrated. The studies revealed that inspection defect data seems to be a suitable predictor, and a combination of certain inspection and product metrics led to the best prioritizations in our contexts. In addition, qualitative experience is presented, which substantiates the expected benefit of using inspection results to optimize testing.

Abstract The last decade has witnessed a rapidly growing public and academic interest in medical error, an interest that has culminated in the emergence of the science of error prevention in health care. The impact of this new science will be felt in all areas of medicine but perhaps especially in emergency medicine (EM). The emergency department’s unique operating characteristics make it a natural laboratory for the study of error. These characteristics, combined with the complex and myriad activities of EM, predict vulnerability to a multitude of errors. Overcrowding and other resource limitations impair continuous quality improvement, and many errors result from high decision density, excessive cognitive load and flawed thinking in the decision-making process. A large proportion of these errors have serious outcomes but an even higher proportion are preventable. The historical practice of blaming individuals for errors needs to be replaced by root-cause analysis that identifies process and systemic weaknesses. Quantitative and qualitative methods are needed to detect, describe and classify error at all levels in the system. Research is needed into the processes that underlie EM error. Educational initiatives should be developed at all levels, for everyone from undergraduate trainees to practicing emergency physicians. Changes in societal attitudes will be an important component of the new culture of patient safety. A nationwide reporting system is proposed to disseminate error information expediently. Canadian EM providers are in a pivotal position to provide leadership to the Canadian health care system in this important area.

Community empowerment through alternative activities in narcotic-prone areas is needed to minimize narcotics circulation. This activity aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Alternative Empowerment Program that has been carried out by the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency for North Jakarta City. The method used is qualitative with descriptive analysis. The activity was carried out in RW 12, Muara Bahari Village, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. Collecting data through observation and interviews with field implementing officers, community leaders, and residents who take part in alternative empowerment programs. Analysis of the effectiveness of the program was carried out after the alternative empowerment activities were carried out for 2 years. The results of the Alternative Empowerment Program are in accordance with the needs and implementation in the field. The program can increase economic independence and welfare but has not been maximized in reducing the number of narcotics crimes, crimes, and professions for people in vulnerable areas. Through the Alternative Empowerment Program, there will be a strengthening of the household economy which can increase family resilience for people in narcotic-prone areas.

This paper presents a control problem for the optimization of the production and setup activities of an industrial system operating in an uncertain environment. This system is subject to random disturbances (breakdowns and repairs). These disturbances can engender stock shortages. The considered industrial system represents a well-known production context in industry and consists of a machine producing two types of products. In order to switch production from one product type to another, a time factor and a reconfiguration cost for the machine are associated with the setup activities. The parts production rates and the setup strategies are the decision variables which influence the inventory and the capacity of the system. The objective of the study is to find the production and setup policies which minimize the setup and inventory costs, as well as those associated with shortages. A modeling approach based on stochastic optimal control theory and a numerical algorithm used to solve the obtained optimality conditions are presented. The contribution of the paper, for industrial systems not studied in the literature, is illustrated through a numerical example and a comparative study.

Elderly age (≥ 60 years) is a period in which people are prone to chronic diseases and their functional independency is probably restricted by physical and mental disabilities. Aim & Objectives: To find out the prevalence of physical dependency among elderly in Uttarakhand, India. Material & Methods: Activities of daily living (ADL) comprise the basic actions that involve caring for self and body, including personal care, eating and mobility. Results: In the present study population of 400, 112 (28%) study population were found to be physically dependent for their daily activities and out of them 63.39 % had moderate to severe dependency. Conclusion: High level of physical dependency in this study population need urgent attention towards good quality home care and geriatric health care services in India at primary, secondary and tertiary level.

One of the objectives of the performance measurement of grade-based higher education is to reduce the failure rate of students. To identify and reduce the number of failing students, the learning activities and behaviors of students in the classroom must be continuously monitored; however, monitoring a large number of students is an extremely difficult task. A penetration of web-based learning systems in academic institutions revealed the possibility of evaluating student activities via these systems. In this paper, we propose an early prediction scheme to identify students at risk of failing in a blended learning course. We employ a neural network on the set of prediction variables extracted from the online learning activities of students in a learning management system. The experiments were based on data from 1110 student who attended a compulsory, sophomore-level course. The results indicate that a neural-network-based approach can achieve early identification of students that are likely to fail; 25% of the failing students were correctly identified after the first quiz submission. After the mid-term examination, 65% of the failing students were correctly predicted.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to assess the vulnerability of communities prone to earthquake hazards in Baluchistan at the community and household levels and identify the determinants accounting for the vulnerability of the communities. Baluchistan is vulnerable to potential seismic risk and has recently suffered huge economic and property losses due to the October 2008 earthquake. Design/methodology/approach – The study is based on household surveys, field observations, key informant interviews and focus-group discussions for the assessment of community vulnerability to earthquakes. Findings – The analysis revealed that the community is vulnerable to earthquake hazards both at the community and household levels. The logistic regression model identified three variables, namely, ownership of residential unit, family size and household income, as the most important factors in influencing community vulnerability to earthquake hazards. Practical implications – The paper may help emergency managers, policymakers and local government authorities to implement building codes, urban planning by-laws and projects and activities to empower communities for disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction. Originality/value – The paper concludes that for earthquake safety, building regulations and spatial planning by-laws should be implemented and monitored rigorously. Community preparedness is essential for enhancing people’s awareness against future earthquake hazards in the area.

Due to various reasons such as ever increasing demands of the customer or change in the environment or detection of a bug, changes are incorporated in a software. This results in multiple versions or evolving nature of a software. Identification of parts of a software that are more prone to changes than others is one of the important activities. Identifying change prone classes will help developers to take focused and timely preventive actions on the classes of the software with similar characteristics in the future releases. In this paper, we have studied the relationship between various object oriented (OO) metrics and change proneness. We collected a set of OO metrics and change data of each class that appeared in two versions of an open source dataset, 'Java TreeView', i.e., version 1.1.6 and version 1.0.3. Besides this, we have also predicted various models that can be used to identify change prone classes, using machine learning and statistical techniques and then compared their performance. The results are analyzed using Area Under the Curve (AUC) obtained from Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) analysis. The results show that the models predicted using both machine learning and statistical methods demonstrate good performance in terms of predicting change prone classes. Based on the results, it is reasonable to claim that quality models have a significant relevance with OO metrics and hence can be used by researchers for early prediction of change prone classes.

Landslides are a common geologic hazard that disrupts the social and economic balance of the affected society. Therefore, identifying zones prone to landslides is necessary for safe living and the minimal disruption of economic activities in the event of the hazard. The factors causing landslides are often a function of the local geo-environmental set-up and need a region-specific study. This study evaluates the site characteristics primarily altered by anthropogenic activities to understand and identify the various factors causing landslides in Coonoor Taluk of Uthagamandalam District in Tamil Nadu, India. Studies on landslide susceptibility show that slope gradient, aspect, relative relief, topographic wetness index, soil type, and land use of the region influence slope instability. Rainfall characteristics have also played a significant role in causing landslides. Logistic Regression, a popular statistical tool used for predictive analysis, is employed to assess the various selected factors’ impact on landslide susceptibility. The factors are weighted and combined in a GIS platform to develop the region’s landslide susceptibility map. This region has a direct link between natural physical systems, hydrology, and humans from the socio-hydrological perspective. The landslide susceptibility map derived using the watershed’s physical and environmental conditions offers the best tool for planning the developmental activities and prioritizing areas for mitigation activities in the region. The Coonoor region’s tourism and agriculture sectors can significantly benefit from identifying zones prone to landslides for their economic stability and growth.

Tissue antioxidant status in insulin-dependent spontaneously diabetic BB Wistar rats (ISDBB), diabetes-prone nondiabetic littermates (NDLM), and weight-matched non-BB control Wistar rats was investigated in pancreas, heart, and liver, as well as kidney. Pancreatic activities of CuZn – superoxide dismutase and glutathione reductase (GSSG-RD) were higher in ISDBB rats, while catalase (CAT) activities were elevated in both ISDBB and their NDLM compared with control animals. On the other hand, pancreatic reduced glutathione (GSH) levels were decreased in both ISDBB and NDLM rats. Cardiac tissues of ISDBB rats had higher activities of CAT and GSSG-RD and elevated levels of GSH compared with weight-matched control rats. Hepatic GSH levels in both ISDBB and their NDLM were lower than those of control rats. ISDBB rats showed higher renal activities of glutathione peroxidase compared with control rats. Our results demonstrate the presence of alterations in tissue antioxidant status in BB Wistar rats (both diabetic BB rats and their diabetes-prone nondiabetic littermates). The fact that most of the enzyme changes present in BB rats with overt diabetes paralleled those we have previously reported in rats with uncontrolled streptozotocin-induced diabetes and the fact that the latter alterations were corrected with insulin therapy suggest that the alterations in diabetic BB rats were probably related to suboptimal insulin therapy. The significance of the alterations in antioxidant status seen in the nondiabetic BB animals is as yet unknown.

Improving the software product quality before releasing by periodic tests is one of the most expensive activities in software projects. Due to limited resources to modules test in software projects, it is important to identify fault-prone modules and use the test sources for fault prediction in these modules. Software fault predictors based on machine learning algorithms, are effective tools for identifying fault-prone modules. Extensive studies are being done in this field to find the connection between features of software modules, and their fault-prone. Some of features in predictive algorithms are ineffective and reduce the accuracy of prediction process. So, feature selection methods to increase performance of prediction models in fault-prone modules are widely used. In this study, we proposed a feature selection method for effective selection of features, by using combination of filter feature selection methods. In the proposed filter method, the combination of several filter feature selection methods presented as fused weighed filter method. Then, the proposed method caused convergence rate of feature selection as well as the accuracy improvement. The obtained results on NASA and PROMISE with ten datasets, indicates the effectiveness of proposed method in improvement of accuracy and convergence of software fault prediction.
