This report describes the first translocation of reindeer Rangifer tarandus from South Georgia to the Falkland Islands, in the South Atlantic Ocean. Compact homomorphisms between Banach algebras are not particularly unusual – for example if A is the algebra of complex sequences {an} with nan → 0 as n → ∞ and ∥{an}∥ = supn(nan) and B = c0 then the embedding map ø:A → B is a compact homomorphism. Nevertheless for really well behaved Banach algebras it is often the case that the only weakly compact homomorphisms are those with a finite-dimensional range.
