Long-term variability of the cold subsurface water (CSW) in the Okhotsk Sea is analyzed on the base of all available oceanographic data collected in March through August of 1946-2015 (total 65,742 stations). The Integral Heat Content (IHC) is calculated for each station and average annual IHC anomalies of the cold subsurface water are determined by month and by 2-degree grid. The IHC anomaly series are analyzed using the EOF analysis. Cycles with period of approximately 30 years are revealed in the variations of the subsurface layer heat content. Thus, in the 1946-1950, its temperature decreased, but it grew since 2009-2010 to 2015. The warming of CSW was also observed in the 1951-1964 and 1978-1994, while the cooling was in the 1965-1977 and 1995-2008. Based on this criterion, the CSW thermal condition in certain years is classified as «extremely cold» in 2001, as «cold» in 1949, 1950, 1951, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1999, 2000, 2010, 2012, as «normal» in 1946, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, as «warm» in 1948, 1956, 1964, 1968, 1974, 1981, 1984, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1997, 2015, and as «extremely warm» in 1963. Statistically significant correlation is found between changes of the CSW thermal conditions and long-term variations of atmosphere and ocean climate indices, as well as local patterns of the atmosphere-ice-ocean interaction in the Okhotsk Sea and adjacent onshore and offshore areas of Asia and the Pacific Ocean.

Monthly sea surface temperature (SST) data of 49 years (1950-98) have been analysed to examine the relationship of SST anomalies in the Indian Ocean with Indian summer monsoon rainfall (ISMR) and to derive useful predictors for long-range forecasts of ISMR. There is significant positive relationship between ISMR and SST anomalies over the Arabian Sea during November to January and also in May. SST anomalies over southeast Indian Ocean during February to March and over North Pacific during May are also positively correlated with ISMR. The composite analysis revealed that in Non-ENSO drought years (1966, 1968, 1974 and 1979) negative SST anomalies are observed over south Indian Ocean from February which slowly spread towards equator during the subsequent months. These negative SST anomalies which persist during the monsoon season may be playing an important role in modulating ISMR especially in non-ENSO years. We have derived two indices, ARBSST (SST anomalies in Arabian Sea averaged over 15o - 25o N, 50o -70o E and November-December-January) and SIOSST (SST anomalies over south Indian Ocean averaged over 15o -30o S, 70o -110o E and February and March) as useful predictors for the long-range forecasts of ISMR. The correlation coefficient (for the period 1950-98) of ARBSST and SIOSST with ISMR is 0.45 and 0.46 respectively which is statistically significant at 99.9 % level. SIOSST index has shown consistently stable relationship with ISMR. However the ARBSST index showed significant correlation with ISMR only after 1976.

El objetivo de este artículo es explorar los cambios en la fuerza laboral ante variaciones del producto, tanto para el caso de cambios en el volumen de la fuerza laboral como para cambios en la tasa global de actividad. Sobre la base de un análisis de series de tiempo encontramos que la fuerza laboral limeña tiene un comportamiento básicamente procíclico, lo cual lleva a que su volumen se incremente en el auge, determinando una menor efectividad de las políticas de generación de empleo. Esto determina una relativa estabilidad de la tasa de desempleo que está también asociada a la existencia de un sector de autoempleo, el cual absorbe los excedentes de fuerza laboral del sector moderno. Adicionalmente, encontramos que la sensibilidad de la fuerza laboral femenina con respecto de los cambios en el producto es mayor que el agregado, resultado esperado dado que la mayoría mujeres no son jefas de hogar y constituyen fuerza laboral secundaria en el contexto familiar. Finalmente, encontramos que la respuesta de la fuerza laboral ante cambios en el producto es menor en el agregado a partir de la década del 90, a pesar de que la sensibilidad en la participación laboral femenina es mayor en dicho período. Este resultado está asociado con una caída y una menor variabilidad en la participación laboral de los varones.---The objective of this article is to explore the changes in the labor force due to variations of the product, both for changes in the volume of labor force and for changes in the global rate of activity. By means of a time series analysis we find that the labor force in Lima has a basically procyclical behavior, which leads to an increase in its volume when product rices, hindering employment generating policies' effectiveness. This determines a relative stability of the unemployment rate, which is also associated to the existence of a self-employment sector, which absorbs the excesses of labor force of the modern sector. Additionally we find that the sensitivity of women labor force with respect to changes in product is greater than the aggregate, awaited result since most women are not household heads, and constitute secondary labor force in the farnily. Finally, we find that the sensitivity of labor force to changes in product is smaller in the aggregate during the 90's, even though sensitivity in women labor force participation is greater during this period. This result is associated with the fall and smaller variability in the men labor force participation in the same decade.

Samples of pike were collected by Lab. of Ichthyology, IBPN FEB RAS in the middle stream of the Anadyr River at Markovo in June-September of 1971-2010 and processed by standard methods; in total 2410 specimens were analyzed. The pike population changed significantly during the period of observation: the fish in catches became smaller and younger, growth rate decreased, and absolute and relative fecundity increased, mainly under impact of fishery, including industrial one that intensified in 1970-1980s. As the result, the pike abundance decreased in 1980s, and the first-spawning females and males became to prevail in its catches. Further decreasing of the abundance was able to promote a reduction of competition in the population. The population could be restored only after considerable decrease of fishing pressure, or banning of the species fishery, that would improve the feeding conditions. Recent lowering of the fishing pressure due to low stock causes partial recovery of the population accompanied by heightening of elder fish portion. Now the fish spawned several times prevail in the catches. However, the growth rate and females fecundity still differ from the values typical for the 1970s. Partial recovery of the pike population should be accounted in estimations of its predatory on other fishes in the Anadyr River, including commercial species.

Este artigo analisa a concordância (bruta e ajustada) dos óbitos de dengue registrados no Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (SINAN) e Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade (SIM) no Brasil, no período de 2000 a 2005. Foi realizado um estudo epidemiológico observacional, seccional e descritivo de concordância dos dados de mortalidade por dengue nesses dois sistemas de informação. A concordância bruta e ajustada por chance (índice kappa) geral, no período de análise, foi de 99,9% e 19,6%, respectivamente. No ano com maior número de casos (2002), esses valores foram de 99,9% e 28,2%, respectivamente. A variação da proporção de óbitos concordantes de dengue nas Unidades Federadas (UF) brasileiras foi de 0% a 33%, e a Região Centro-Oeste foi a que apresentou maior mediana. Este estudo discute a importância da análise integrada e rotineira dos sistemas de informação em saúde com intuito de seu aprimoramento e a ampliação de seu uso para a avaliação e formulação de políticas de saúde adequadas.

Satellite data on chlorophyll concentration from ESA (CCI-OC) and Goddard Space Flight Center, NASA and shipboard observations of CTD, P, N, Si, inorganic carbon, DCI, and Chlaat 38 stations in the northeastern Japan Sea (46th cruise of RV Academik M.A. Lavrentyev on July 9–19, 2009) are analyzed. The highest chlorophyll concentrations were found in the subsurface layer (depth 20–40 m) or even deeper in the Polar Front zone, so they were not reﬂected in the satellite data. The minimal depths of the subsurface maximum were observed northward from the Polar Front where the estimations of chlorophyll concentration in the upper optical layer (Zd= 1/kd) were similar for the shipboard and satellite measurements (on average 0.384 ± 0.160 mg/m3 and 0.406 ± 0.120 mg/m3, respectively). Primary production was calculated using the assimilation number 4.46 mgC/mgChl per hour. Depth of euphotic layer was estimated using the vertical profles of nutrients and Chla. Within this layer, the primary production in the northeastern Japan Sea was evaluated for the shipboard stations as 895–2275 mgС.m–2.day–1, on average 1450 ± 430 mgС.m–2.day–1, and for the satellite data on average 770 ± 190 mgС.m–2.day–1. The estimations based on the shipboard and satellite data were weakly correlated. The shipboard estimations exceed considerably the results obtained by Koblents-Mishke et al. (1956, 1970) and Yamada et al. (2005). Poor accuracy of satellite estimations of primary production is concluded because the deeper part of the euphotic layer with the maximum concentration of chlorophyll is in shadow for satellite sensors.

Abstract Background Ever since the first successful keratoplasty in 1905, there has been a need to store corneas for transplantation. R. Townley Paton founded the first eye bank in New York in 1944. With Helen Kellerʼs call in 1925 for LIONS to “constitute themselves Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness”, LIONS Clubs International has become involved in the establishment of eye banks worldwide. This paper presents the development of eye banking in general and with special attention to the support offered by LIONS Clubs. Methods Selective literature search through PubMed, Google Scholar and Google in close cooperation with the LIONS Eye Banks already established in Germany, LIONS Clubs International (USA) and the Julius Hirschberg Society (Austria). Analysis focused on the founding processes of 6 German eye banks and their current services. Results Filatov was the first to keep donor eyes in a cool, moist container for a few days. In 1973, Summerlin et al described the technique of organ culture for donor corneas, and McCarey & Kaufman described a liquid storage medium in 1974. LIONS Clubs International and their organisational structure first supported an eye bank in the US in 1952, outside America in Hong Kong in 1962 and in Germany in 1969. Funding is provided across all levels of LIONS as network support and material resources. In general, staff funding is not provided. Of the 88 eye banks operating worldwide today, 44 are called LIONS Eye Banks. 6 of the current 26 eye banks in Germany are operating under LIONS sponsorship and run by departments of ophthalmology at university medical centres. Although the number of transplants has increased in recent years due to new surgical techniques, the number of patients waiting for donor tissue is also growing as a result of the broadening indication. Conclusions Even today, the availability of donor corneas limits patient care. Eye banks help to meet the need for donor corneas. However, the techniques and technical equipment of eye banks must undergo continuous improvement. The local, national and international network of LIONS Clubs can assist in establishing these in order to facilitate legal requirements and structural developments. This support frequently lasts for many years, often triggers additional public commitment and is thus also a supporting element for the future development of eye banking in Germany.

Abstract Purpose The aims of this study were to prospectively assess the diagnostic accuracy of a bespoke multiorgan point-of-care ultrasound approach for suspected pulmonary embolism and evaluate if this model allows reduced referral to further radiation diagnostics while maintaining safety standards. Materials and Methods Patients with suspected pulmonary embolism referred for CT pulmonary angiography or ventilation/perfusion scintigraphy were included as a convenience sample. All patients were subject to blinded ultrasound investigation with cardiac, lung, and deep venous ultrasound. The sensitivity and specificity of applied ultrasound signs and the hypothetical reduction in the need for further diagnostic workup were calculated. Results 75 patients were prospectively enrolled. The Wells score was below 2 in 48 patients, between 2 and 6 in 24 patients, and above 6 in 3 patients. The prevalence of pulmonary embolism was 28%. The most notable ultrasound signs were presence of a deep venous thrombus, at least two hypoechoic pleural-based lesions, the D-sign, the 60/60-sign, and a visible right ventricular thrombus which all had a specificity of 100%. Additionally, a multiorgan ultrasound investigation with no findings compatible with pulmonary embolism yielded a sensitivity of 95.2% (95%CI: 76.2–99.9). CT or scintigraphy could be safely avoided in 70% of cases (95%CI: 63.0–83.1%). Conclusion The findings of our study suggest that implementation of a multiorgan ultrasound assessment in patients with suspected pulmonary embolism may safely reduce the need for CT or scintigraphy by confirming or dismissing the suspicion.

En réponse à la demande laitière urbaine sans cesse croissante et aux politiques de développement du secteur, le bassin laitier situé en périphérie de Bamako a subi d’importants changements depuis l’Indépendance. Les politiques industrielles des années 1970-80 ont eu des impacts sociaux importants. Elles ont notamment conduit au développement des importations de poudre de lait et au salariat des bergers. Les politiques libérales qui ont suivi ont plutôt encouragé le développement de petites unités de transformation et l’intensification de l’élevage pastoral. Mais en l’absence de contrôle, ces politiques ont aussi contribué à d’importants mélanges génétiques, et à l’émergence de zoonoses et de risques d’infections, dangereux pour la santé publique. Une approche intégrée, liant l’adaptation des techniques de production et l’accès aux marchés et aux services, permettrait, avec l’appui des politiques et en concertation avec les acteurs, d’atténuer les risques de ces innovations et d’améliorer les moyens de subsistances de tous les acteurs.

Chub mackerel and japanese sardine fishery is overviweved for the period since 1976. Two blooms of high abundance were observed within this period for both species. Effectiveness of fishing methods used during the past and the present blooms is compared to reveal prospects for their improvement and to sunstantiate the operating parameters of fishing gear suitable for energy capabilities of fishing vessels with certain tonnage. On results of this analysis, wider use of purse seine is recommended for landing of japanese sardine, as the more effective and resource-saving technology. The fish could be poured from the seine by either coupler or fish pump; the fish pump is recommended for trawl vessels, as well.

Ingots of composition Nd9Fe85B6, Nd9Fe85B6 + 1 at.% (Ti + C), Nd9Fe85B6 + 2 at.% (Ti + C), and Nd9Fe85B6 + 5 at.% (Ti + C) were prepared by plasma arc-melting the constituent elements from 99.95 wt% Nd, 99.99 wt% Fe, 99.97 wt% Ti, spectrographic grade C, and ferroalloy Fe–B (19.6 wt% B). Effect of Ti + C addition and its content on quenchability and magnetic properties of Nd9Fe85B6 alloy were investigated by melt-spinning. The results showed that the added Ti and C elements reacted with each other to form TiC compound that was solid solutioned, precipitated, or both in the cast ingots. The Ti + C addition can increase the glass-forming ability (GFA) of an α–Fe/Nd2Fe14B–type nanocomposite permanent material: the more the additive, the stronger the GFA; but only approximately 2 at.% Ti + C addition could enormously increase the magnetic properties.

Abstract Objectives The CANWARD surveillance study was established in 2007 to annually assess the in vitro susceptibilities of a variety of antimicrobial agents against bacterial pathogens isolated from patients receiving care in Canadian hospitals. Methods 42 936 pathogens were received and CLSI broth microdilution testing was performed on 37 355 bacterial isolates. Limited patient demographic data submitted with each isolate were collated and analysed. Results Of the isolates tested, 43.5%, 33.1%, 13.2% and 10.2% were from blood, respiratory, urine and wound specimens, respectively; 29.9%, 24.8%, 19.0%, 18.1% and 8.2% of isolates were from patients in medical wards, emergency rooms, ICUs, hospital clinics and surgical wards. Patient demographics associated with the isolates were: 54.6% male/45.4% female; 13.1% patients aged ≤17 years, 44.3% 18–64 years and 42.7% ≥65 years. The three most common pathogens were Staphylococcus aureus (21.2%, both methicillin-susceptible and MRSA), Escherichia coli (19.6%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (9.0%). E. coli were most susceptible to meropenem and tigecycline (99.9%), ertapenem and colistin (99.8%), amikacin (99.7%) and ceftolozane/tazobactam and plazomicin (99.6%). Twenty-three percent of S. aureus were MRSA. MRSA were most susceptible to ceftobiprole, linezolid and telavancin (100%), daptomycin (99.9%), vancomycin (99.8%) and tigecycline (99.2%). P. aeruginosa were most susceptible to ceftolozane/tazobactam (98.3%) and colistin (95.0%). Conclusions The CANWARD surveillance study has provided 10 years of reference antimicrobial susceptibility testing data on pathogens commonly causing infections in patients attending Canadian hospitals.

The advantage of microsatelite analysis compare to blood group system are the exclution probability was high (EXP 99.9%), needs small sampel (tissues, sperm or follicel of hair), could be use for all animal without special age and possible for died animal.

ABSTRACTA tetracycline-resistant (Tetr) dairyEnterococcus faeciumisolate designated M7M2 was found to carry bothtet(M) andtet(L) genes on a 19.6-kb plasmid. After consecutive transfer in the absence of tetracycline, the resistance-encoding plasmid persisted in 99% of the progenies. DNA sequence analysis revealed that the 19.6-kb plasmid contained 28 open reading frames (ORFs), including atet(M)-tet(L)-mobgene cluster, as well as a 10.6-kb backbone highly homologous (99.9%) to the reported plasmid pRE25, but without an identified toxin-antitoxin (TA) plasmid stabilization system. The derived backbone plasmid without the Tetrdeterminants exhibited a 100% retention rate in the presence of acridine orange, suggesting the presence of a TA-independent plasmid stabilization mechanism, with its impact on the persistence of a broad spectrum of resistance-encoding traits still to be elucidated. Thetet(M)-tet(L) gene cluster from M7M2 was functional and transmissible and led to acquired resistance inEnterococcus faecalisOG1RF by electroporation and inStreptococcus mutansUA159 by natural transformation. Southern hybridization showed that both thetet(M) andtet(L) genes were integrated into the chromosome ofS. mutansUA159, while the whole plasmid was transferred to and retained inE. faecalisOG1RF. Quantitative real-time reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) indicated tetracycline-induced transcription of both thetet(M) andtet(L) genes of pM7M2. The results indicated that multiple mechanisms might have contributed to the persistence of antibiotic resistance-encoding genes and that the plasmids pM7M2, pIP816, and pRE25 are likely correlated evolutionarily.

An FFQ was used to assess consumption of beverages and other dietary factors. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine potential determinants of consuming SSB and ASB (≥1 serving/d).SettingRecruitment from general practice surgeries to participate in the ongoing population-based Fenland Study.SubjectsAdults (n 9991) aged 30–64 years from three areas of Cambridgeshire, UK.ResultsPrevalence estimates for daily SSB and ASB consumption were 20·4 % (n 2041) and 8·9 % (n 893), respectively. SSB consumption (OR; 95 % CI) was more common in men than women (1·33; CI 1·17, 1·50) and among those reporting lower income (<£20 000/year) than those reporting higher income (>£40 000/year; 1·31; 1·09, 1·58). In contrast, daily ASB consumption was more common among women than men (1·62; 1·34, 1·96), those on weight-loss diets than those who were not (2·58; 2·05, 3·24) and those reporting higher income than lower income (1·53; 1·16, 2·00). Factors associated with higher consumption of each of SSB and ASB included being a younger adult, being overweight/obese, having shorter education, eating meals or snack foods while watching television, and skipping breakfast (P<0·05 each).ConclusionsFrequent consumers of SSB and ASB differ by several sociodemographic characteristics. However, increased BMI, younger age and unhealthy eating behaviours are common to both groups.

Among these cases, 3217 were performed to remove foreign bodies from the airway (459 cases, 14.3%) and esophagus (2758 cases, 85.7%). Retrospective analysis of these data revealed that peanuts (217 cases) and animal bones (1184 cases) were the most frequent foreign bodies encountered in the airway and esophagus, respectively. The successful rate of removal of these foreign bodies was 99.9% (3213/3217). The complication rate was only 0.2% (8/3217), and the mortality rate was less than 0.1% (2/3217). On the basis of these results, we conclude that foreign bodies in the airway and esophagus can be removed safely under direct visualization through rigid endoscopy with relatively few complications. A significant finding in this study is the declining trend in the number of cases in recent years. Despite the decline in the number of procedures, endoscopic removal of foreign bodies remains as a vital skill of the aerodigestive tract surgeon.

Background/Aims The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in unprecedented changes to healthcare services. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on referrals to cardiology services in a tertiary hospital. Methods Royal Stoke University Hospital has a cardiac assessment nurse team that provides rapid access to specialist cardiology opinion. All referrals are recorded on a database, which was used to determine how COVID-19 affected the number and types of referrals to cardiology during March–September 2019 and March–September 2020. Results A total of 12 447 referrals were made to the cardiac assessment nurse teams over the evaluation period. Compared to the average number of referrals across all months, there was a decline of 10.5%, 31.2% and 18.5% during March, April and May 2019 respectively. Comparing 2020 to 2019, there were more 999 calls (17.7% vs 15.7%) and accident and emergency referrals (46.5% vs 45.0%), and fewer interhospital referrals (16.0% vs 19.6%). In terms of advice provided for the 999 referrals, a greater number were advised to go to the accident and emergency department (10.5% vs 0%) and direct phone advice provided to those in other settings increased (11.7% vs 0.1%) in 2020. Conclusions The COVID-19 pandemic was associated with a reduction in the number of overall referrals to cardiology, while also demonstrating a shift towards more advice to attend the accident and emergency department for assessment or direct phone advice being provided about management in the community.

Annual data on the 1976–2019 year-classes of pink salmon from Iturup Island are presented, as their number on spawning grounds, abundance of wild and hatchery juveniles migrating downstream, and returns of adult fish after the marine period of life. On average, 1.48 . 106 spawners entered annually the rivers of Iturup Island in these years and 237 . 106 fry juveniles rolled down (the downstream migration index was 165 juveniles per conventional producer), plus 133 . 106 juveniles from salmon hatcheries. After fattening in the sea, the annual returns were 16.56 . 106 ind., on average, so the marine survival index was 4.70 %. This is the highest value of the return for the Sakhalin-Kuril region, relative to the area of spawning grounds and to the number of spawners. The year-classes of odd years dominated until the middle 1990s, then the year-classes of even years became more numerous. Biological parameters of fish (body length and weight, fecundity) fluctuated from year to year both for odd and even year-classes, though these parameters averaged for a long period of observation had no difference between the odd and even year-classes, as well as the indices of reproduction efficiency.

Age and length-weight structure of sockeye salmon spawners are considered for the feeding-spawning lakes of southeastern Kamchatka, as Dalneye (1976-2013), Blizhneye (1939-2013), and Listvenichnoye (1999-2013), and for Lake Sarannoye on Bering Island (1990-2013). By these data, the age of sockeye salmon maturing is: 2.2, 2.3 and 3.2 in Lake Dalneye, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1 and 2.2 in Lake Blizheye, 2.2, 2.3 and 3.3 in Lake Listvenichnoye, and 2.2, 2.3, 3.2 and 3.3 in Lake Sarannoye. These age groups dominate in the samples of spawning sockeye with the portion 70-90 %. Long-term dynamics of length and weight of sockeye spawners is distinguished by negative trends significant for the longest time-series in Lake Blizhneye and insignificant for the shorter one in Lakes Dalneye; the length of observations in Lakes Listvenichnoye and Sarannoye is not enough to reveal trends. Besides, cyclic variations with the period 5-10 years could be revealed for the long tome-series. As a rule, each cycle includes the phases of gradual decreasing and sharp increasing of length and weight. Year-to-year dynamics of the length-weight structure in the common period of observations is similar for all investigated lakes.

L’étude de la parasitofaune branchiale de 558 Barbus martorelli a été menée dans un cours d’eau douce aux alentours de Yaoundé (Cameroun) en milieu tropical, afin d’obtenir des informations sur la répartition des agents pathogènes dans une population d’hôtes sauvages ; ces données sont indispensables dans la recherche de moyens pour éviter les pertes énormes souvent observées en pisciculture intensive. Cette analyse a révélé la présence de deux espèces de myxosporidies (Myxobolus barbi et M. njinei) et de huit espèces de monogènes (Dactylogyrus bopeleti, D. insolitus, D. simplex, D. maillardi, Dogielius martorellii, Dogielius sp., une espèce de Gyrodactylidae et une larve de Polystomatidae). Quatre poissons n’ont pas présenté de parasites, 24 ont présenté une infection monospécifique et 530 une infection plurispécifique. Chaque individu infesté a hébergé en moyenne quatre espèces de parasites. Alors que la prévalence et l’intensité moyenne parasitaire diminuaient avec la taille de l’hôte pour les protozoaires, le phénomène inverse a été observé pour les helminthes. L’effet sexe a été noté dans l’infestation de B. martorelli par la myxosporidie M. njinei et par la plupart des espèces de monogènes. Les femelles ont ainsi été plus infestées que les mâles en raison de leur biologie en période de frai. Enfin, la richesse des espèces parasitaires a semblé affecter négativement le poids des hôtes.

Regal Fritillary (Speyeria idalia) primarily inhabits prairie, a native grassland of central North America, and occurs rarely in nonprairie grasslands further east. This butterfly has experienced widespread decline and marked range contraction. We analyze Regal Fritillary incidence and abundance during 1977–2014 in 4th of July Butterfly Counts, an annual census of butterflies in North America. Volunteers count within the same 24 km diameter circle each year. Only 6% of counts in range reported a Regal, while 18% of counts in core range in the Midwest and Great Plains did. 99.9% of Regal individuals occurred in core range. Only four circles east of core range reported this species, and only during the first half of the study period. All individuals reported west of its main range occurred in two circles in Colorado in the second half of the study. The number of counts per year and survey effort per count increased during the study. During 1991–2014, >31 counts occurred per year in core Regal range, compared to 0–23 during 1975–1990. During 1991–2014, all measures of Regal presence and abundance declined, most significantly. These results agree with other sources that Regal Fritillary has contracted its range and declined in abundance.

Peter the Great Bay (PGB) was not known to Europeans for a long time. The first European ship reached PGB in 1852. She was the French corvette Capricieuse commanded by captain G. de Rocquemaurel who was sent by his government for exploring the western coast of the Japan Sea; actually he had described the Posyet Bay only. Later the British HMS Winchester and Barracuda visited PGB in August, 1856. They discovered the Golden Horn Bay, them as Port May, and gave names to many other geographical locations. Large Russian expedition of 7 vessels was sent to Primorye coast under the leadership of N.N. Muravyov-Amursky, the Governor-General of Eastern Siberia, in the summer of 1859. They described thoroughly the entire PGB and changed many (not all) foreign geographical names to Russian ones. Scientific researches in the Japan Sea were started soon by L.I. Schrenk, who summarized the results of Russian observations in two books published in 1869 and 1874. Great success in understanding of oceanographic regime was the work of S.O. Makarov «The «Vitiaz» and the Pacific Ocean» (1894). S. Ogura created in 1927 the general chart of currents in the Japan Sea on the base of Japanese observations in 1900–1911 that was more detailed and comprehensive than the first chart of L.I. Shrenk. Moreover, S. Ogura plotted the water temperature and salinity distribution over the whole Japan Sea for February and August. Oceanographic studies in PGB were made in 1920s by K.A. Gomoyunov, the first professional oceanographer who lived constantly in the Russian Far East; he began from the Amur Bay survey in the summer of 1925. The USSR Hydrographic Office conducted the oceanographic survey in PGB and the Tatar Strait in 1926–1928, with measuring of temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen content, pH, and water transparency, with the deepest measurements at the depth of 3500 m. In 1932, the Pacific Res. Inst. of Fisheries in Vladivostok together with the State Hydrographic Institute in Leningrad organized the large-scale Pacific expedition that covered all Far-Eastern Seas. In the framework of this expedition, the 5 cruises of RV Rossinante to the Japan Sea headed by N.I. Tarasov explored PGB, too, that allowed to analyze seasonal variations of temperature, salinity, oxygen content, and currents. Oceanographic researches in the Japan Sea became more active in the times of WWII, 4 small research vessels made observations at Primorye coast every month from April to October under general supervision of A.M. Batalin; in total, more than 100 exits to the sea were recorded in 1941–1946. The data collected in those years was the basis for the big atlas of the Japan Sea created under the leadership of A.I. Rumyantsev and published in 1951.

Microdosimetry is a tool for the investigation of microscopic energy deposition of ionizing radiation. This work used Caenorhabditis elegans as a model to estimate the microdosimetric deposition level at the60Co gamma radiation. Monte Carlo software PHITS was employed to establish irradiated nematodes model. The dose deposition of the entire body and gonad irradiated to 100 Gy was calculated. The injury levels of radiation were evaluated by the detection of biological indicators. The result of microdosimetric experiment suggested that the dose of whole body of nematodes was estimated to be 99.9 ± 57.8 Gy, ranging from 19.6 to 332.2 Gy. The dose of gonad was predicted to be 129.4 ± 558.8 Gy (9.5-6597 Gy). The result of biological experiment suggested that there were little changes in the length of nematodes after irradiation. However, times of head thrash per minute and the spawning yield in 3 consecutive days decreased 27.1% and 94.7%, respectively. Nematodes in the irradiated group displayed heterogeneity. Through contour analysis, trends of behavior kinematics and reproductive capacity of irradiated nematodes proved to be consistent with the dose distribution levels estimated by microdosimetric model. Finally, C. elegans presented a suitable combined model of microdosimetry and biology for studying radiation.

Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a origem e as especificidades do debate entre o ensinar pensar ou o ensinar fazer da escola a partir de um estudo realizado utilizando-se de fontes teóricas e bibliográficas dos caminhos epistemológicos da construção dos preceitos do ensinar fazer e do ensinar pensar. Metodologicamente a construção da análise deste artigo segue três caminhos sequenciados, analisar a formação histórica do sentido dado ao ensinar fazer como sinônimo de racionalidade; a crítica a este preceito e o desafio de ensinar pensar para a construção da autonomia, estabelecendo um diálogo teórico com Edgar Morin (2019; 1973; 1996; 2003) e Paulo Freire (9997; 1995; 1990). Conclui-se que este debate do papel da escola não se origina dentro dela própria, mas no âmbito social e político a partir de uma construção histórica envolvendo o processo da origem epistemológica da racionalidade moderna. A escola tem o compromisso social, historicamente construído, de ensinar o ser racional associado às raízes da modernidade e das relações capitalistas de produção. Assim, o saber que a escola utiliza como meio e como fim por si só está associado à sua utilidade prática, o que dificulta a prática docente do ensinar para pensar.

Since 1970, the Wittrick–Williams algorithm has been applied with increasing sophistication in structural mechanics to guarantee that eigenvalues cannot be missed and are calculated accurately. The underlying theorem enables its application to any discipline requiring eigenvalues of self-adjoint systems of differential equations. Its value in mathematics was recently illustrated by studying Sturm–Liouville equations on large homogeneous trees with Dirichlet boundary conditions and n (≤43) levels. Recursive subsysteming was applied n −1 times to assemble the tree progressively from sub-trees. Hence, numerical results confirmed the recent theoretical bounds of Sobolev & Solomyak for n →∞. In addition, a structural mechanics analogy yielded a proof that many eigenvalues had high multiplicities determined by n and the branching number b . Inspired by the structural mechanics analogy, we now prove that all eigenvalues of the tree are obtainable from n substitute chains r (=1, 2, …, n ) which involve only r consecutively linked differential equations and which have only singlefold eigenvalues. Equations are also derived for the multiplicities these eigenvalues have for the tree. Hence, double precision calculations on a PC readily gave eigenvalues for n =10 6 and b =10, i.e. ≃10 999 999 linked Sturm–Liouville equations. Moreover, a simple equation is derived which gives all the eigenvalues of uniform trees with Dirichlet conditions at both ends, and band-gap spectra are numerically demonstrated and theoretically justified for trees with the Dirichlet conditions at either end replaced by Neumann ones. Additionally, even if each multiple eigenvalue would be counted as if it were singlefold, the proportion of eigenvalues that are multiple is proved to approach unity as n →∞.

New mathematical methods for determining of multicomponent invariants are developed by detection of their constancy using the measures of percentage similarity. Typification of the descriptive sets is proposed. An important type for verification of invariants is considered — generally normalized descriptive sets, with exception of 0 and 1 components. In this type of descriptive sets, the invariants and relative spectra match, the arithmetic mean of multicomponent invariants and the mediant also match. Taxonomic invariants for the macrophyte floras in the Avachinskaya Guba Bay are determined for 1970 and 1991, and their rapid changes under anthropogenic impacts are demonstrated.

The frequencies of the newly identified streptococcal superantigen genes smez, spe-g, and spe-h were determined in a panel of 103 clinical isolates collected between 1976 and 1998 at various locations throughout New Zealand. smez and spe-g were found in every group A Streptococcus (GAS) isolate, suggesting a chromosomal location. The spe-h gene was found in only 24% of the GAS isolates and is probably located on a mobile DNA element. The smez gene displays extensive allelic variation and appears to be in linkage equilibrium with the M/emm type. 22 novel smez alleles were identified from 21 different M/emm types in addition to the already reported alleles smez and smez-2 with sequence identities between 94.5 and 99.9%. Three alleles are nonfunctional due to a single base pair deletion. The remaining 21 alleles encode distinct SMEZ variants. The mosaic structure of the smez gene suggests that this polymorphism has arisen from homologous recombination events rather than random point mutation. The recently resolved SMEZ-2 crystal structure shows that the polymorphic residues are mainly surface exposed and scattered over the entire protein. The allelic variation did not affect either Vβ specificity or potency, but did result in significant antigenic differences. Neutralizing antibody responses of individual human sera against different SMEZ variants varied significantly. 98% of sera completely neutralized SMEZ-1, but only 85% neutralized SMEZ-2, a very potent variant that has not yet been found in any New Zealand isolate. SMEZ-specific Vβ8 activity was found in culture supernatants of 66% of the GAS isolates, indicating a potential base for the development of a SMEZ targeting vaccine.

Abstract This systematic review compared the oral health status between institutionalized and non-institutionalized elders. The following electronic databases were searched: PubMed (Medline), Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs and Cochrane Library, in a comprehensive and unrestricted manner. Electronic searches retrieved 1687 articles, which were analyzed with regards to respective eligibility criteria. After reading titles and abstracts, five studies were included and analyzed with respect their methodological quality. Oral status of institutionalized and non-institutionalized elderly was compared through meta-analysis. Included articles involved a cross-sectional design, which investigated 1936 individuals aged 60 years and over, being 999 Institutionalized and 937 non-institutionalized elders. Studies have investigated the prevalence of edentulous individuals, the dental caries experience and the periodontal status. Meta-analysis revealed that institutionalized elderly have greater prevalence of edentulous (OR = 2.28, 95%CI = 1.68-3.07) and higher number of decayed teeth (MD = 0.88, 95%CI = 0.71-1.05) and missed teeth (MD = 4.58, 95%CI = 1.89-7.27). Poor periodontal status did not differ significantly between groups. Compared to non-institutionalized, institutionalized elders have worse dental caries experience.

Aim. The wild-type strain Streptomyces globisporus 1912 was isolated in 1967 from a sample of farmland (Armenia). Two mutants with different phenotypic characteristics were obtained (1912-2 and 1912-4Crt). The nucleotide sequences of 19 genes of the original strain and up to 90% of the genome sequence of its 2 mutants were determined. The aim of the study was to identify differences in the identified sequences of genomic DNA contigs of 2 mutants and individual genes of the original strain. Methods. BLASTN programs were used when comparing the DNA sequences. Results. BLAST analyzes of the sequences of 2 mutants S. globisporus (1912-2 and 1912-4Crt) revealed that they were identical (99.99%). Query cover of homologous sequences of mutants 1912-4Crt and 1912-4Crt was 95%. It was found that a number of mutant contigs (both 1912-2 and 1912-4Crt) were unique - their sequences were completely dissimilar to the sequences contigs of another variant. Conclusions. The determined sequences of genomes of 3 cultures will be useful in the construction of the genetic map of S. globisporus 1912. In addition, the comparative analysis of sequences of mutants can reveal the genetic basis of phenotypic changes. Keywords: BLAST analysis, sequences, genome, cluster, gene, identity, overlap.

The study aimed to know the effect of the combination of tween 80 and span 80 on the encapsulating characteristics of kenikir flower dye extract and determine the best combination of tween 80 and span 80 to produce encapsulated kenikir flower dye extract. This study using a simple Group Randomized Design with a combination treatment of tween 80 with span 80, to archive HLB values of 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13. Each treatment is carried out 3 times so that 18 units are obtained. The data obtained is analyzed with variety analysis and if there is an effect of treatment on the observed variables, then continued with Tukey. The result showed that the combination of tween 80 and span 80 as an emulsifier using arabic gum had a noticeable effect on yield, solubility, encapsulation efficiency, moisture content total carotenoids, surface carotenoids, L* values (brightness), a* (reddish) and b*(yellowish) values. The combination of tween 80 0.23 g and span 0.27 g produces encapsulating of kenikir flower extract with the best characteristics, namely: yield 84.95%, moisture content 5.53%, solubility 71.68%, total carotenoids 159.47%, surface carotenoids 1.26%, encapsulation efficiency 99.99%, L* values (brightness) 43.55, a* (redness) values 19.76, and b* (yellowish) values 30.61.
