Annotation:
In this essay, I take up the question of whether Gerd B. Achenbach’s ‘beyond-method’ method provides a suitable approach to counseling for the philosophical counselor. Achenbach maintains that the best method to counseling is one that is beyond any one single system. Many scholars have expressed an increasing dissatisfaction with such a methodology. Although these critiques of Achenbach are helpful, I argue that they do not capture the real problem with his counseling method. After I discuss this additional difficulty, I conclude that it is beyond all dispute that the methods of philosophical counseling should be advanced along different lines.

Background: Achenbach’s syndrome, also known as paroxysmal finger hematoma, is a rarely reported clinical disorder with recurring, sudden bruising of the volar part of a finger, appearing spontaneously or after minor trauma and resolving completely within days. Patients and methods: We report seven cases from our angiologic out-patient clinic. Results: The patients were asymptomatic between manifestations. The conditon was nevertheless reason for a referral. Conclusions: We stress the need for greater awareness among clinicians of the harmlessness of the condition in order to avoid misdiagnoses and dispensable diagnostic procedures.

Annotation:
Achenbach syndrome (paroxysmal finger hematoma) refers to a condition in which a patient exhibits episodic pain and swelling in one or more digits along with the subsequent appearance of a hematoma on the palmar side of the proximal phalanges. Achenbach syndrome is a benign condition of unknown etiology in which prodromal symptoms, such as pain, tingling, and itching, may occur from minutes to hours before the color change appears. The subdermal bleeding usually stops spontaneously or after local pressure is applied. The color changes usually disappear within a few days, without permanent sequelae. The diagnosis of Achenbach syndrome is based strictly on its clinical features because the results of all routine investigations are usually normal. Physicians should become aware of this condition in order to advise their patients about its benign prognosis and to avoid unnecessary testing.

AbstractObjective: The report considers the utility of the Achenbach Child Behaviour Checklist in the differential diagnosis of the disruptive behaviour disorders.Method: Subscale scores on the parent completed Achenbach Child Behaviour Checklist were compared for three of 15 boys, the first diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, the second diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder and a third non-clinical control.Result: The attention subscale of the Achenbach Child Behaviour Checklist was found to have a high level of sensitivity to children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but relatively poor specificity. The delinquent subscale was found to have limited sensitivity for oppositional defiant/conduct disorder group, but high levels of specificity. The aggressive subscale were found to have relatively high sensitivity for the oppositional defiant/conduct disorder group and relatively high specificity. Conclusion: The Achenbach Child Behaviour Checklist is useful in distinguishing between children with disruptive behaviour disorders and a non-clinical sample. The aggressive subscale appears to have potential clinical utility in the differential diagnosis of the disruptive behaviour disorders.

The Achenbach Inventory of Behavioral Problems (test/retest reliability = 92) was administered to 908 adolescents in Lima, aged from 11 to 18 years, 621 coming from the control group (normal) and 287 from the experimental group (clinical group with divorced parents). Results showed that the experimental group exhibited significantly higher scores (T ≥ 70) than the control group (T < 60), the former reaching pathology level indicators. Moreover, a non-significant tendency to obtain higher T scores is more observed in females than in males. From the study results we can state that the Achenbach Inventory is a valid instrument for a screening process of children exhibiting behavioral problems that require psychological or psychiactric intervention in Peru.

Annotation:
Temperature changes caused by latent transformation heats are an integral part of the behavior of shape memory alloys and inevitably couple the thermal and the mechanical fields. This general behavior is covered by the Mu¨ller-Achenbach-Seelecke (MAS) model. Its versatility has been documented extensively in the literature. In the original formulation the MAS model is restricted to uniaxial states of stress in a SMA, which limits its application to cases where such stress states prevail, such as axial loading in wires and trusses, as well as pure beam bending, pure torsion and shrink-fit problems. Unreliable results, however are expected under arbitrary multiaxial loading conditions. To overcome this limitation we present an extension of the model capable of arbitrary stress/strain/temperature states in 3D. Our model adopts ideas presented by Xie but employs a different non-convex free energy function. Rate equations are employed to model temperature or stress/strain induced transformations between austenite and eight variants of martensite present in the model. As the MAS model, the multi-variant model is capable of fully-coupled thermo-mechanical processes which is shown by simulations of temperature-induced processes, quasiplasticity and pseudoelasticity under variable load directions. At the present level of sophistication, the model is restricted to single crystalline SMA. All examples are explained by the use of a standalone model implementation. The model is intended for future implementation into the finite-element-method environment ABAQUS™ to provide a powerful tool useful in the framework of engineering design studies, especially in situations which require non-isothermal conditions and phase transitions.

Results of the emotional and behavioral problems among children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in connection with mother-child interaction is presented. 29 children aged 52.9 ± 8.7 months old with ASD took part in the study. Mother-child interaction was studied by PCERA (Clark, 1985), the behavioral problems assessed by CBCL/1½-5 (Achenbach & Rescorla, 2000). Results showed that children demonstrate a lower level withdrawal, aggressive behavior, and attention if their mothers have a high level of positive involvement in the interaction. A high level of emotional reactivity, anxiety and oppositional behavior are observed if there were no reciprocity and mutuality in the dyadic interaction.

The coronavirus-19 pandemic has become a serious stressor and can provoke an increase in emotional distress in pregnant women. The influence of unfavorable factors during pregnancy causes a responsive "adaptive response" in both the pregnant woman and the fetus, which has various long-term consequences for the child's development. The aim of our study was to investigate influence of perinatal factors such as anxiety, depression, PTSD and attachment of women in pregnancy and after birth on infants’ development during a pandemic. Sample. 1 st stage: 120 women age 28,7 years, 61% in 3rd trimester living in Russia. Measures: Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment, Impact of Events Scale, State and Trait Anxiety, Maternal Antenatal Attachment Scale, Maternal Postnatal Attachment Scale, Pregnant woman attitude test, Kent Infant Development Scale. Result. A study of the emotional state in pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic revealed a high level of state anxiety in 39% of pregnant women, a level of PTSD exceeding critical in 16% of pregnant women, the presence of various syndromes and DSM-associated disorders, including depressive disorder (10.3%) combined with mental health problem such as avoidance (9.7%). The study of the attitude towards pregnancy and the child revealed a high level of prenatal attachment and the predominance of the optimal type of attitude towards pregnancy. Preliminary data on the mental development of infants (29 infants, mean age 6,6 months) show lagging on the social, cognition, and self-care scales. Data on postnatal factors and its influence on child development will be presented later. (The Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment),

This paper deals with the development of a control-oriented model for simulation of planar solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). A hierarchical modeling structure has been set-up to identify a simplified model that allows describing the dynamic behavior of an SOFC with satisfactory accuracy, affordable computational burden and limited amount of experimental data. Particularly in this work, a steady-state relationship that links cell voltage to current density and temperature has been inferred from a phenomenological 1-D model previously developed by the authors. Then, a first order model has been obtained by applying the conservation of energy principle (heat balance) to a lumped control volume that includes air and fuel channels, interconnect and solid tri-layer (i.e., electrolyte and electrodes). A state-space representation of the model also is presented, having the cell outlet temperature and the cell voltage as state and output variables, respectively. Model validation has been conducted by comparing the cell response to load (i.e., current density) variations with data generated by means of a physical comprehensive model previously published by Achenbach. Extensive simulation of the cell dynamic behavior has been performed in order to analyze the main system dynamics with respect to changes in cell temperature, load, excess air and fuel utilization. The results of this analysis will serve as a tool for both optimal design and sizing, as well as for the energy management of hybridized (i.e. supported by batteries or supercap) SOFC-based power generation systems.

The application of shape memory alloys (SMA) as actuators in a smart structure is a quickly developing field. The particular focus of this paper is on the aspects of modeling and simulation of a bio-inspired bone-joint system using the finite element method (FEM). The actuation of a typical bat’s humerus-radius system is effected by means of micro-scale actuator wires performing like metal muscles when heated. In addition, the elbow is modeled as a flexible hinge using superelastic SMA wires. This system serves as a first step towards the design of a flapping wing to propel the next generation Micro Aerial Vehicle (MAV). In this bio-inspired bone-joint-system, the humerus and radius were modeled as standard elastic beams. Shape memory alloys were employed in two different ways: one is an SMA wire in the martensite phase, the other is an SMA beam in the austenite phase. The SMA wires work as muscles to actuate the bio-system due to contraction upon electric heating. The SMA beams work as flexible joints due to their superelastic character. In this work, the modeling and simulation of the adaptive structure was implemented in COMSOL Multiphysics. The active material model used is based on the Muller-Achenbach-Seelecke shape memory alloy model. The paper has a particular focus on the implementation of the SMA model into COMSOL combining general PDE modes with structural mechanics truss and beam elements. COMSOL has been chosen because of its natural way of handling multi-physics situations such as the thermomechanical coupling relevant for the SMA application.

Background: Adolescents living in institutional settings are more susceptible to the EBPs than others as they are deprived of a family's love, support, attachment and care. Objective: To assess the prevalence of EBPs among adolescents and explore the perceptions of caretakers living in children’s home. Method: A mixed method, descriptive cross-sectional study among 134 adolescents from 5 children’s homes of Gokarneshwor Municipality, was done. All the adolescents from 10-19 years living in the children’s home were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire, Youth Self-Report (YSR-11/18) 2001, developed by Achenbach System of Empirical Based Assessment and self-developed socio- demographic questionnaires. Data was coded and analyzed using SPSS (25). Descriptive statistics and Chi square were used to analyze the quantitative data, while narrative summary was used for qualitative through IDI. Results: Prevalence of EBPs was 48.5% among the adolescents. While the EBPs factors prevalence was found to be anxious depression (46.3%), withdrawn depressed (46.3%), attention problems (46.3%), somatic complaints (50.7%), social problems (42.5%), thought problems (38.8%), attention problems (46.3%), rule breaking behaviour (41%) and aggressive problems (50%). The occurrence of EBPs was significantly associated with status of adolescent (ꭓ2=6.015, p=0.014, df=1). Similarly, there was the significant association between dependent variable (prevalence of EBPs and EBP variables such as anxious depressed (ꭓ2=20.078, p<0.001, df=1), withdrawn depressed (ꭓ2=38.616, p<0.001, df=1), social problems (ꭓ2=32.678, p<0.001, df=1), attention problems (ꭓ2=30.479, p<0.001, df=1), rule breaking behavior (ꭓ2=25.322, p<0.001, df=1), thought problems (ꭓ2=31.14, p<0.001, df=1), somatic complaints (ꭓ2=20.248, p<0.001, df=1) and aggressive problem (ꭓ2=32.536, p<0.001, df=1). Conclusion: EBPs are a serious mental health concern among adolescents and especially living in children’s homes. The provision of the appropriate counseling, life skill educations and ECAs engagements help to address the EBP factors. Interaction of the monochromatic ultrasonic wave with the uniformly distributed micro-scale damages modeled as a weakly nonlinear solid generates higher harmonics. In practice, most of the metallic components under fatigue and fracture introduce highly localized early-stage damages like local plasticity and region of micro-cracks resulting in shear bands, etc. Theoretical studies by Tang (2012), Wang and Achenbach (2017), Kube (2018), and Wang et.al. (2019) on the interaction of the ultrasonic waves with localized material nonlinearities discuss the interesting effects of the scattered harmonic waves. Low amplitudes of the backscattered harmonic waves and the requirement of a specific set of wideband transducers make experimental studies hard. On the other hand, finite element studies presented in this paper demonstrate the interesting nature of harmonic scattering of the SH waves which will be helpful for the effective design of the laboratory experiments. Generation of backscattered Lamb waves by the interaction of SH wave with local damage due to monochromatic wave is verified with the analytical solution presented by Wang et.al. (2019). Only odd harmonics of the forward scattered SH waves are noted and only even harmonics of both backscattered and forward scattered Lamb waves are noted. Higher amplitudes of static components of Lamb waves are observed due to their cumulative nature similar to higher harmonics. The effect of harmonic scattering in nonlinear guided wave mixing is also studied by considering one-way and two-way two-wave mixing of SH waves. A greater number of sum and difference frequencies along with the odd and even harmonics of both the backscattered and forward scattered waves are noted in codirectional wave mixing, as the complete local damage region is covered by the mixing zone. In two-way mixing, the zero group velocity Lamb waves are generated at the local nonlinear material region. Both backscattered and forward scattered waves contain only Lamb waves with sum and difference frequencies and corresponding odd and even harmonics. To understand the effect of the intensity and size of the localized nonlinear material region various studies are carried out by scaling nonlinear material parameters and geometric size of the local damages (0-20 mm). Observed various characteristics of harmonically scattered waves show their potential in quantifying the intensity, size, and position of local damages by solving simple inverse problems.

The last decade has witnessed the discovery of materials combining shape memory behavior with ferromagnetic properties (FSMAs), see, e.g., James & Wuttig1, James et al.2. These materials feature the so-called giant magnetostrain effect, which, in contrast to conventional magnetostriction, is due to the motion of martensite twins. It was first observed in NiMn2Ga single crystals, Ullakko et al.3, but later discovered in polycrystals as well, see Ullakko4. This effect has motivated the development of a new class of active materials transducers, which combine intrinsic sensing capabilities with superior actuation speed and improved efficiency when compared to conventional shape memory alloys. The effect has also been found in thin films, Rumpf et al.5, and this technology is currently being developed intensively in order to pave the way for applications in micro- and nanotechnology. As an example, Kohl et al.6,7, recently proposed a novel actuation mechanism based on NiMnGa thin film technology, which makes use of both the ferromagnetic transition and the martensitic transformation allowing the realization of an almost perfect antagonism in a single component part. The implementation of the mechanism led to the award-winning development of an optical microscanner8. Possible applications in nanotechnology arise, e.g., by combination of smart NiMnGa actuators with scanning probe technologies. The key aspect of Kohl’s device is the fact that it employs electric heating for actuation, which requires a thermo-magneto-mechanical model for analysis. The research presented in this paper aims at the development of a model that simulates this particular material behavior. It is based on ideas originally developed for conventional shape memory alloy behavior, (Mueller & Achenbach9, Achenbach10, Seelecke11, Seelecke & Mueller12) and couples it with a simple expression for the nonlinear temperature-and position-dependent effective magnetic force. This early and strongly simplified version does not account for a full coupling between SMA behavior and ferromagnetism yet, and does not incorporate the hysteretic character of the magnetization phenomena either. It can however be used to explain the basic actuation mechanism and highlight the role of coupled magnetic and martensitic transformation with respect to the actuator performance. In particular will we be able to develop guidelines for desirable alloy compositions, such that the resulting transition temperatures guarantee optimized actuator performance.
