This thesis presents a study of different modulation schemes in the context of backscatter communication. Backscatter communication is a way of wireless communication where no active signal is transmitted. Instead surrounding signals are modified to transmit data. The goal of this thesis is to explore in how far different modulation schemes in combination with off-the-shelf hardware can be used to tackle the current data rate and distance limitations of backscatter systems. This thesis compares the modulation schemes on-off keying (OOK) and frequency-shift keying (FSK) using a constant carrier signal as well as a digital television signal. For the use of a constant carrier signal it is shown that high ranges of up to 225 meters in a line-of-sight environment and up to 30 meters in a non line-of sight environment are reachable extending the current distance limitations by far and even the use of high data rates lead to a range of 175 meters. Moreover, this thesis shows the feasibility of replacing the constant carrier with a television signal and achieves ranges of over a meter in surroundings of television signals with a signal strength of not more than -70 dBm.

The success of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) paradigm relies on, among other things, developing energy-efficient communication techniques that can enable information exchange among billions of battery-operated IoT devices. With its technological capability of simultaneous information and energy transfer, ambient backscatter is quickly emerging as an appealing solution for this communication paradigm, especially for the links with low data rate requirements. However, many challenges and limitations of ambient backscatter have to be overcome for widespread adoption of the technology in future wireless networks. Motivated by this, we study the design and implementation of ambient backscatter systems, including non-coherent detection and encoding schemes, and investigate techniques such as multiple antenna interference cancellation and frequency-shift backscatter to improve the bit error rate performance of the designed ambient backscatter systems. First, the problem of coherent and semi-coherent ambient backscatter is investigated by evaluating the exact bit error rate (BER) of the system. The test statistic used for the signal detection is based on the averaging of energy of the received signal samples. It is important to highlight that the conditional distributions of this test statistic are derived using the central limit theorem (CLT) approximation in the literature. The characterization of the exact conditional distributions of the test statistic as non-central chi-squared random variable for the binary hypothesis testing problem is first handled in our study, which is a key contribution of this particular work. The evaluation of the maximum likelihood (ML) detection threshold is also explored which is found to be intractable. To overcome this, alternate strategies to approximate the ML threshold are proposed. In addition, several insights for system design and implementation are provided both from analytical and numerical standpoints. Second, the highly appealing non-coherent signal detection is explored in the context of ambient backscatter for a time-selective channel. Modeling the time-selective fading as a first-order autoregressive (AR) process, we implement a new detection architecture at the receiver based on the direct averaging of the received signal samples, which departs significantly from the energy averaging-based receivers considered in the literature. For the proposed setup, we characterize the exact asymptotic BER for both single-antenna (SA) and multi-antenna (MA) receivers, and demonstrate the robustness of the new architecture to timing errors. Our results demonstrate that the direct-link (DL) interference from the ambient power source leads to a BER floor in the SA receiver, which the MA receiver can avoid by estimating the angle of arrival (AoA) of the DL. The analysis further quantifies the effect of improved angular resolution on the BER as a function of the number of receive antennas. Third, the advantages of utilizing Manchester encoding for the data transmission in the context of non-coherent ambient backscatter have been explored. Specifically, encoding is shown to simplify the detection procedure at the receiver since the optimal decision rule is found to be independent of the system parameters. Through extensive numerical results, it is further shown that a backscatter system with Manchester encoding can achieve a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) gain compared to the commonly used uncoded direct on-off keying (OOK) modulation, when used in conjunction with a multi-antenna receiver employing the direct-link cancellation. Fourth, the BER performance of frequency-shift ambient backscatter, which achieves the self-interference mitigation by spatially separating the reflected backscatter signal from the impending source signal, is investigated. The performance of the system is evaluated for a non-coherent receiver under slow fading in two different network setups: 1) a single interfering link coming from the ambient transmission occurring in the shifted frequency region, and 2) a large-scale network with multiple interfering signals coming from the backscatter nodes and ambient source devices transmitting in the band of interest. Modeling the interfering devices as a two dimensional Poisson point process (PPP), tools from stochastic geometry are utilized to evaluate the bit error rate for the large-scale network setup. Doctor of Philosophy The emerging paradigm of Internet-of-Things (IoT) has the capability of radically transforming the human experience. At the heart of this technology are the smart edge devices that will monitor everyday physical processes, communicate regularly with the other nodes in the network chain, and automatically take appropriate actions when necessary. Naturally, many challenges need to be tackled in order to realize the true potential of this technology. Most relevant to this dissertation are the problems of powering potentially billions of such devices and enabling low-power communication among them. Ambient backscatter has emerged as a useful technology to handle the aforementioned challenges of the IoT networks due to its capability to support the simultaneous transfer of information and energy. This technology allows devices to harvest energy from the ambient signals in the environment thereby making them self-sustainable, and in addition provide carrier signals for information exchange. Using these attributes of ambient backscatter, the devices can operate at very low power which is an important feature when considering the reliability requirements of the IoT networks. That said, the ambient backscatter technology needs to overcome many challenges before its widespread adoption in IoT networks. For example, the range of backscatter is limited in comparison to the conventional communication systems due to self-interference from the power source at a receiver. In addition, the probability of detecting the data in error at the receiver, characterized by the bit error rate (BER) metric, in the presence of wireless multipath is generally poor in ambient backscatter due to double path loss and fading effects observed for the backscatter link. Inspired by this, the aim of this dissertation is to come up with new architecture designs for the transmitter and receiver devices that can improve the BER performance. The key contributions of the dissertation include the analytical derivations of BER which provide insights on the system design and the main parameters impacting the system performance. The exact design of the optimal detection technique for a communication system is dependent on the channel behavior, mainly the time-varying nature in the case of a flat fading channel. Depending on the mobility of devices and scatterers present in the wireless channel, it can either be described as time-selective or time-nonselective. In the time-nonselective channels, coherent detection that requires channel state information (CSI) estimation using pilot signals can be implemented for ambient backscatter. On the other hand, non-coherent detection is preferred when the channel is time-selective since the CSI estimation is not feasible in such scenarios. In the first part of this dissertation, we analyze the performance of ambient backscatter in a point-to-point single-link system for both time-nonselective and time-selective channels. In particular, we determine the BER performance of coherent and non-coherent detection techniques for ambient backscatter systems in this line of work. In addition, we investigate the possibility of improving the BER performance using multi-antenna and coding techniques. Our analyses demonstrate that the use of multi-antenna and coding can result in tremendous improvement of the performance and simplification of the detection procedure, respectively. In the second part of the dissertation, we study the performance of ambient backscatter in a large-scale network and compare it to that of the point-to-point single-link system. By leveraging tools from stochastic geometry, we analytically characterize the BER performance of ambient backscatter in a field of interfering devices modeled as a Poisson point process.

Nowadays, peo-ple live longer, and it is expected that this trend will proceed. In 2000, there were already 420 million people with more than 65 years old, which correspond to about 7% of the world population. In 2050, it is expected that this number reaches 1500 million which corresponds to about 16% of the world population. Naturally, in these circumstances, the number of disabled people will increase as well. This context brings new challenges to the traditional health care systems in Portugal and in the rest of the world. There is an urgent need to search for new solutions that will allow people to live in the best possible way, in the latest stages of life. In order to fulfill this need, it is necessary to develop systems that allow to extend their life in their favorite environment, improving their safety, autonomy, mobility and welfare. Nowadays, information and communication technologies (ICT) offer new opportunities to provide care and assistance. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), is such a paradigm, in which technology is used as a way to improve the independ-ence and welfare of aged or disabled people at their homes. This dissertation has the purpose of contributing to providing an answer to this necessity, associated to a development of an ecosystem for Ambient Assisted Living, associated to a business model and the search for the possibility of collabo-rative networks creation, in order to look for efficient and accessible solutions for AAL services provision.

Vatten är en livsviktig resurs vars tillgång på senare tid varit begränsad. År 2019 hade 15 av 21 län i Sverige risk för vattenbrist. KTH samarbetar med företaget Ecoloop som driver ett utvecklingsprojekt med målet att utveckla strategier för vattenbesparing och beteendeförändring som resulterar i minskad vattenanvändning. Visualisering av vattenförbrukning pekas ut som en möjlig strategi för att stödja beteendeförändring. Med utgångspunkt i Ecoloops besparingsmål undersökte vi hur ett visualiseringsverktyg kan representera vattenförbrukning och hur detta kan påverka människors motivation att förändra sitt beteende kring vattenkonsumtion. Tidigare forskning visar att ett ambient verktyg (som existerar i omgivningen som en subtil påminnelse) är lämpligt för att uppmuntra till beteendeförändring då det är ett sätt att öka medvetenhet utan påträngande återkoppling. Vi utvecklade en ambient prototyp av en väggkalender för att visualisera hushålls vattenkonsumtion. Undersökningen av prototypens potential genomfördes i två steg. Först utfördes användartester på en pappersprototyp för att utvärdera användarnas förståelse. Utifrån det togs en digital prototyp fram, vars motivation till beteendeförändring utvärderades genom kvalitativa intervjuer med målgruppen. Målgruppen, mer specifikt, var individer som nyligen flyttat hemifrån. Denna grupp är av stor relevans då de befinner sig i en situation där de för första gången själva får bestämma över sitt hushåll och beteenden. Användartesternas resultat visar att prototypen är ett bra hjälpmedel för att användaren ska få god förståelse för sin vattenkonsumtion. Då det är ett visualiseringsverktyg som är integrerat i vardagen visade resultaten att prototypen har god potential till att påverka motivation till förändrat beteende genom att ge återkoppling som är upplysande och närvarande snarare än påträngande. Användarna i de utförda testerna uttryckte att de var motiverade av prototypen då den ger snabb och intuitiv återkoppling vattenkonsumtionen. Främst uppskattades kombinationen av den symboliska återkopplingen i kombination med de faktiska mätningarna. Våra slutsatser visar att prototypen har potential att leda till beteendeförändring, men det går inte att säga någonting kring om det faktiskt hade lett till en väsentligt minskad vattenanvändning. Water is a vital resource whose supply has recently been limited. In 2019, 15 out of 21 counties in Sweden were at risk of water shortages. KTH has a collaboration with the company Ecoloop, which runs a development project with a goal of developing strategies for water saving and behavior change that results in reduced water use. Visualization of water consumption is pointed out as a possible strategy to support behavior change. Based on Ecoloop's saving goals, this report examines how a visualization tool can represent water consumption and how this can affect people's motivation to change their behavior regarding their water consumption. Previous research shows that an ambient display (which exists in the environment as a subtle reminder) is suitable for encouraging behavior change as it is a way to create awareness without intrusive feedback. After an understanding of water consumption challenges in Sweden were formed, a prototype of a wall calendar was developed to visualize household water consumption. The study of the prototypes potential was conducted in two stages. First, user tests were performed on a paper prototype to evaluate comprehension. Based on this, a digital prototype was developed. Secondly, qualitative interviews were conducted to evaluate the target group’s motivation for behaviour change. The target group, more specifically, were individuals who had recently moved from their childhood homes. This group is of great importance because they are in a situation where they for the first time are in charge of their own household and behavior. The results show that our prototype is a good tool for the user to gain understanding of their water consumption. As it is a visualization tool that is integrated into everyday life, the results showed that the prototype has good potential to influence motivation for behaviour change by providing feedback that is enlightening and attendant rather than intrusive. The users expressed that they were motivated by the prototype as it provides fast and intuitive feedback of their water consumption. Mainly appreciated was the symbolic feedback in combination with the actual measurements. Our conclusions show that the prototype has potential to lead to behaviour change, but it is not possible to say anything about whether our display actually would have led to a significant reduction in water usage.

Loneliness is a growing social problem that affects people from different age groups. Studies have shown that loneliness is prevalent more in young adults and the elderly demographic. Loneliness can pose serious health issues like cognitive malfunction, heart disease, stroke, depression, etc. People who stay alone from friends and family tend to feel lonelier. Conventional communication tools like a phone or video calls or using social media applications can help the users connect with people but also have adverse effects. As a result of this, the potential of an alternative nonverbal mode of communication needs to be explored. The research aims to understand individuals' behavior, traits, and hidden needs when it comes to loneliness. The purpose is to suggest an alternative way of communication that creates a sense of presence and ensures mental well for the people living alone and suffer from emotional loneliness. The concept of Calm and ambient technology has been explored in this thesis as an alternative means of communication. Users’ needs were gathered from eight semi-structured interviews, and two stakeholders were identified. Over forty ideas were generated from brainstorming. The ideas were sent to twenty individuals through snowballing. The response from them was analyzed and narrowed down by using concept screening and concept scoring. The final concept was a device called ‘One home lamp.’ The device uses light to show the presence of remote family members or loved ones to a person living alone. This concept product was then evaluated through ‘Mankoff’s heuristics’ to see its credibility as a calm ambient artifact.

Background noise is ubiquitous and can impair acoustic communication and influence signaling behavior in animals. Despite evidence demonstrating myriad effects of anthropogenic noise on animal communication, precisely how natural background noise influences communication and behavior remains unclear. Yet, natural sources of background noise, such as rushing rivers or crashing ocean surf, share similar power spectra to sources of anthropogenic noise and can occur at high amplitudes, potentially masking acoustic signals. To investigate the effects of water-generated noise on songbird behavior, we experimentally broadcast landscape-level playbacks of ocean surf and river noise in coastal California, USA, and riparian habitat in Idaho, USA, respectively. In Chapter 1, we conducted a conspecific playback experiment examining how territorial defense behaviors of lazuli buntings (Passerina amoena) and spotted towhees (Pipilo maculatus) vary in response to broadcast water noise. We also incorporated cicada noise from a serendipitous Okanagana spp. emergence as a biotic source influencing lazuli bunting behavior. Both species produce songs that share substantial spectral overlap with low-frequency, water-generated noise, and lazuli bunting song shares an additional high-frequency overlap with cicada calls. Thus, there is potential for background acoustic conditions to mask conspecific signals. We found that detection and discrimination of conspecific playback occurred more slowly for both species as sound level increased. Lazuli buntings also exhibited divergent flight behaviors in response to high- and low-frequency acoustic sources, both dependent and independent of sound level. In Chapter 2, we investigated how amplitude and frequency of water-generated noise influences spectral and temporal song characteristics in six songbird species. We recorded individuals defending territories across 37 sites, with each site representing one of four acoustic environments: naturally quiet ‘controls’, naturally noisy ‘positive controls’ adjacent to the ocean or a whitewater river, ‘phantom’ playback sites with continuous broadcast of low-frequency water noise, and ‘shifted’ playback sites with continuous broadcast of high-frequency water noise. We predicted that all individuals exposed to ‘positive control’, ‘phantom’, or ‘shifted’ noise would adjust song structure, but the magnitude of signal modification would be larger in noisier locations and the type of modification would depend on the spectral profile of the acoustic environment. No two species altered songs in precisely the same way. However, song structure of all six species varied with amplitude and/or frequency of background noise. Together our results demonstrate that natural noise can impair agonistic behaviors and influence vocal structure. These findings suggest that the natural acoustic environment shapes acoustic communication, highlighting natural soundscapes as an under-appreciated axis of the environment.

La qualité des données est une condition commune à tous les projets de technologie de l'information, elle est devenue un domaine de recherche complexe avec la multiplicité et l’expansion des différentes sources de données. Des chercheurs se sont penchés sur l’axe de la modélisation et l’évaluation des données, plusieurs approches ont été proposées mais elles étaient limitées à un domaine d’utilisation bien précis et n’offraient pas un profil de qualité nous permettant d’évaluer un modèle de qualité de données global. L’évaluation basée sur les modèles de qualité ISO a fait son apparition, néanmoins ces modèles ne nous guident pas pour leurs utilisation, le fait de devoir les adapter à chaque cas de figure sans avoir de méthodes précises. Notre travail se focalise sur les problèmes de la qualité des données d'un système ambiant où les contraintes de temps pour la prise de décision sont plus importantes par rapport aux applications traditionnelles. L'objectif principal est de fournir au système décisionnel une vision très spécifique de la qualité des données issues des capteurs. Nous identifions les aspects quantifiables des données capteurs pour les relier aux métriques appropriées de notre modèle de qualité de données spécifique. Notre travail présente les contributions suivantes : (i) création d’un modèle de qualité de données générique basé sur plusieurs standards de qualité existants, (ii) formalisation du modèle de qualité sous forme d’une ontologie qui nous permet l’intégration de ces modèles (de i), en spécifiant les différents liens, appelés relations d'équivalence, qui existent entre les critères composant ces modèles, (iii) proposition d’un algorithme d’instanciation pour extraire le modèle de qualité de données spécifique à partir du modèle de qualité de données générique, (iv) proposition d’une approche d’évaluation globale du modèle de qualité de données spécifique en utilisant deux processus, le premier processus consiste à exécuter les métriques reliées aux données capteurs et le deuxième processus récupère le résultat de cette exécution et utilise le principe de la logique floue pour l’évaluation des facteurs de qualité de notre modèle de qualité de données spécifique. Puis, l'expert établie des valeurs représentant le poids de chaque facteur en se basant sur la table d'interdépendance pour prendre en compte l'interaction entre les différents critères de données et on utilisera la procédure d'agrégation pour obtenir un degré de confiance. En ce basant sur ce résultat final, le composant décisionnel fera une analyse puis prendra une décision Data quality is a common condition to all information technology projects; it has become a complex research domain with the multiplicity and expansion of different data sources. Researchers have studied the axis of modeling and evaluating data, several approaches have been proposed but they are limited to a specific use field and did not offer a quality profile enabling us to evaluate a global quality model. The evaluation based on ISO quality models has emerged; however, these models do not guide us for their use, having to adapt them to each scenario without precise methods. Our work focuses on the data quality issues of an ambient system where the time constraints for decision-making is greater compared to traditional applications. The main objective is to provide the decision-making system with a very specific view of the sensors data quality. We identify the quantifiable aspects of sensors data to link them to the appropriate metrics of our specified data quality model. Our work presents the following contributions: (i) creating a generic data quality model based on several existing data quality standards, (ii) formalizing the data quality models under an ontology, which allows integrating them (of i) by specifying various links, named equivalence relations between the criteria composing these models, (iii) proposing an instantiation algorithm to extract the specified data quality model from the generic data quality models, (iv) proposing a global evaluation approach of the specified data quality model using two processes, the first one consists in executing the metrics based on sensors data and the second one recovers the result of the first process and uses the concept of fuzzy logic to evaluate the factors of our specified data quality model. Then, the expert defines weight values based on the interdependence table of the model to take account the interaction between criteria and use the aggregation procedure to get a degree of confidence value. Based on the final result, the decisional component makes an analysis to make a decision

Federal regulations specify that an employee working for eight hours cannot legally be exposed to noise which has a time-weighted average greater than 90 decibels on the A scale. The industrial workforce is comprised of not only people with normal hearing acuity, but of individuals who suffer from hearing loss. While current noise regulation standards are deemed appropriate for those with normal hearing, it is difficult to apply these standards to persons wearing hearing aids on the job. The ambient, or unamplified, noise levels that fall below the maximum permitted by OSHA standards may very well be amplified to levels greater than 90 dBA, by the hearing aid. If this were the case, the company employing the hearing aid user would technically be in violation of the OSHA regulations. This study addressed the question of what noise exposure might be expected for hearing aid users on the job in different situations, as well as in non-vocational settings. The research involved two methods, conducted to determine the noise levels created by hearing aids with different amounts of gain and to determine whether the amplified noise levels exceed those requiring intervention under current regulations. For both methods, ambient and amplified noise levels for each condition were gathered in specified increments, and were compared with regard to current regulatory standards. The resultant data revealed that when ambient noise levels average between 80 and 84 dBA, amplification provided by even a mild gain hearing aid caused the eight hour time-weighted averages (TWA's) to increase to levels above the 90 dBA maximum permissible levels as delineated by OSHA. Moderate and high gain aids further increased these levels. The results of this study suggest that the hearing aid users in industrial and perhaps non-industrial settings may very well be exposed to intensity levels which exceed OSHA maximums, even when ambient levels do not. The extent to which these arc exceeded are based on the gain and output of the hearing aid in use.

Hospital environments are ranked as one of the most stressful contemporary work environments for their employees, and this especially concerns nurses (Nejati et al. 2016). One of the core problems comprises the notion that the current technology adopted in hospitals does not support the mobile nature of medical work and the complex work environment, in which people and information are distributed (Bardram 2003). The employment of inadequate technology and the strenuous access to information results in a decrease in efficiency regarding the fulfilment of medical tasks, and puts a strain on the attention of the medical personnel. This thesis proposes a solution to the aforementioned problems through the design of ambient displays, that inform the medical personnel with the health statuses of patients whilst requiring minimal allocation of attention. The ambient displays concede a hierarchy of information, where the most essential information encompasses an overview of patients’ vital signs. Data regarding the vital signs are measured by biometric sensors and are embodied by shape-changing interfaces, of which the ambient displays consist. User-authentication permits the medical personnel to access a deeper layer within the hierarchy of information, entailing clinical data such as patient EMRs, after gesture-based interaction with the ambient display. The additional clinical information is retrieved on the user’s PDA, and can subsequently be viewed in more detail, or modified at any place within the hospital.In this thesis, prototypes of shape-changing interfaces were designed and evaluated in a hospital environment. The evaluation was focused on the interaction design and user-experience of the shape-changing interface, the capabilities of the ambient displays to inform users through peripheral awareness, as well as the remote communication between patient and healthcare professional through biometric data. The evaluations indicated that the required attention allocated for the acquisition of information from the shape-changing interface was minimal. The interaction with the ambient display, as well as with the PDA when accessing additional clinical data, was deemed intuitive, yet comprised a short learning curve. Furthermore, the evaluations in situ pointed out that for optimised communication through the ambient displays, an overview of the health statuses of approximately eight patients should be displayed, and placed in the corridors of the hospital ward.

This research examined Facebook friendships between college/university instructors and students. Based on the development of instructor-student dual relationships, this study described instructors’ Facebook use with students. This included explanations for allowing/not allowing students, communication with students, and ethical concerns. Rooted in the theories of impression management, self-monitoring and role conflict, plus the concept of ambient awareness, hypotheses predicted relationships between instructors’ individual differences and Facebook use: (1) self-monitoring would be positively related to role conflict; and (2) self-monitoring, (3) role conflict, and (4) ambient awareness would be positively related to instructors’ self-presentation, impression management behaviors, and privacy management. Emails were sent to faculty at 270 colleges/universities throughout the U.S. and 331 instructors completed the online survey. Of these, 56.2% allowed students as friends. Open-ended answers revealed that instructors allowed students as friends to communicate, to facilitate learning about each other, and because it was difficult to decline requests. Some instructors did not allow certain students (e.g., problematic students, undergraduates). They communicated by commenting on and liking posts on students’ pages, and had ethical concerns about negative consequences. Open-ended answers revealed that instructors did not allow students as friends to maintain the professional divide and avoid favoritism, which explained their ethical concerns. Hierarchical regression analyses tested the predicted relationships. Results revealed that self-monitoring approached significance as having a positive relationship with role conflict and a negative relationship with privacy management, but was not related to self-presentation or impression management behaviors. Role conflict was not related to impression management. Awareness of students was positively related to self-presentation and impression management behaviors, but unexpectedly, perception of students’ awareness of instructors was negatively related to privacy management. A partial correlation analysis tested high/low self-monitors separately and not only replicated the results, but also revealed that high self-monitors’ perception of students’ awareness was positively correlated with self-presentation and impression management behaviors. These findings indicate that ambient awareness is related to online communication and should be studied further. This is especially intriguing since the two types of ambient awareness related differently to the three types of impression management studied in this research.

This thesis aims to investigate the eect context could have to interaction between a user and a spoken dialogue system. It was assumed that using context-dependent voice commands instead of absolute semantic voice commands would make the dialogue more natural and also increase the usability. This thesis also investigate if introducing context could aect the user's privacy and if it could expose a threat for the user from a user perspective. Based on an extended literature review of spoken dialogue system, voice recognition, ambient intelligence, human-computer interaction and privacy, a spoken dialogue system was designed and implemented to test the assumption. The test study included two steps: experiment and interview. The participants conducted the dierent scenarios where a spoken dialogue system could be used with both context-dependent commands and absolute semantic commands. Based on these studies, qualitative results regarding natural, usability and privacy validated the authors hypothesis to some extent. The results indicated that the interaction between users and spoken dialogue systems was more natural and increased the usability when using context. The participants did not feel more monitored by the spoken dialogue system when using context. Some participants stated that there could be a theoretical privacy issues, but only if the security measurements were not met. The paper concludes with suggestions for future work in the scientic area. Baserat pa den utokade litteraturstudien av spoken dialogue system, rostigenkanning, ambient intelligence, manniska-datorinteraktion och integritet, designades och implementerades ett spoken dialogue system for att testa detta antagande. Teststudien bestod av tva steg: experiment och intervju. Deltagarna utforde olika scenarier dar ett spoken dialogue system kunde anvands med kontextberoende rostkommandon och absolut semantiska rostkommandon. Kvalitativa resultat angaende naturlighet, anvandbarhet och integritet validerade forfattarens hypotes till en viss grad. Resultatet indikerade att interaktionen mellan anvandare och ett spoken dialogue system var mer naturlig och mer anvandbar vid anvandning av kontextberoende rostkommandon istallet for absolut semantiska rostkommandon. Deltagarna kande sig inte mer overvakade av ett spoken dialogue system vid anvandning av kontextberoende rostkommandon. Somliga deltagare angav att det, i teorin, fanns integritetsproblem, men endast om inte alla sakerhetsatgarder var uppnadda. Uppsatsen avslutas med forslag pa framtida studier inom detta vetenskapliga omrade.

The use of real time data as an input for lighting control is an emerging element for designers to implement into lighting schemes but does it add any value or have the ability to influence human behaviour? The recent development in technological capabilities, the demand within the emerging experience economy and the hybridisation of digital and physical realms make this a current and relevant investigation. This study aims to understand the relationship between light and behaviour and the potential of real time data to enhance it by initiating and curating lighting effect in a physical space. In this context, the experience economy describes the business model of providing meaningful and memorable experiences to customers as a core feature of a product or service while real time data describes the harvesting of information as it happens. Through reviewing literature and interviewing professionals in the field of both light and data the results conclude that light does influence behaviour in the context of attention, movement and emotion. Analysis of case studies and technological enablers indicate in-space sensors to be a valuable source of data which can be used effectively to trigger light scenes that respond instantly, with relevance to occupants inhabiting the built environment. Trend reports and industry luminaries forecast strong predictions for the merging of physical and digital worlds as a means of providing memorable and meaningful experiences for retail consumers. It is recommended that lighting designers educate themselves in preparation for the inevitable growing demand for such experiences.

The topic of my thesis is "Guerilla marketing and its use in commercial communications." The main objective of my thesis is to define new forms of marketing communication and to assess their possible application in the segment of small and medium-sized businesses, with particular emphasis on guerilla marketing. The thesis has three basic parts. The first two chapters present a theoretical view on marketing, commercial communications and new trends in the field, as well as on Guerilla marketing, through its definition, the definition of its main characteristics and basic types. L'objectif du travail de thèse a été de tester en laboratoire l'efficacité de deux variantes de taxe ambiante (Taxe Pigouvienne Moyenne et Taxe Ambiante Plafonnée) qui présentent l'avantage de réduire les charges en cas de taxation mais dont l'efficacité nécessite que les pollueurs coordonnent leurs efforts. Pour permettre cette coordination, trois formes de communication (communication gratuite ou " cheap talk ", communication coûteuse endogène et exogène) ont été testées. Les résultats montrent que le sucker's payoff et la taille des groupes sont déterminants dans le potentiel du cheap talk à induire de la coopération. Lorsque la communication est coûteuse et exogène, l'impact positif de la communication est limité dans le temps. Cependant lorsque la décision de communiquer moyennant un coût revient aux joueurs, ceux-ci choisissent de ne pas communiquer. Nous avons aussi montré que le cheap talk facilite la coordination vers l'équilibre Pareto-dominant et rend ainsi la Taxe Ambiante Plafonnée efficace.

L'informatique ubiquiste se matérialise aujourd'hui par une croissance exponentielle du nombre d'objets communicants (OC) dans notre environnement. Dans cette perspective, un système complet de perception de l'environnement peut être constitué dynamiquement par une fédération d'OC répartis. Nous proposons un cadre conceptuel comme support d'un tel système perceptuel dans un environnement distribué. Ce cadre est utilisé pour la modélisation et l'intégration numérique des informations perçues, l'expression de la complémentarité des dispositifs de perception et leurs descriptions en vue d'une intégration dans une infrastructure de services. Nous présentons une méthode permettant au système perceptuel de se composer dynamiquement afin d'exploiter les capacités individuelles des OC et de répondre au mieux aux besoins des applications clientes. Cette approche a été validée par la réalisation d'applications adaptatives au contexte pour la communication ambiante Entry into the era of Ubiquitous Computing is leading to an exponential growth in the number of communicating device (CD) that can be found in the human environment. A consequence is that it has become possible to dynamically compose systems for perception ofhuman activities from ad hoc assemblies ofavailable CD's. Ln this thesis we present a conceptual framework for dynamic composition of ad hoc perceptual systems. We examine the problem of modelling and integration for fusing perceptual information, the expression of the complementary nature of perceptual devices, and the description of devices required for dynamic composition. We present a method for the dynamic composition of perceptual services designed to exploit the complementary nature of the perceptual devices. This approach has been validated by realization of adaptive user services that are sensitive to the context of human activity

The thesis is focused on the area of loyalty programme. Its aim is to analyse the loyalty programme of Ambiente restaurants called The Programme for Friends of Good Food and to compare it with the old method of rewarding customers that the company used to have before they launched the programme. The theoretical part of this thesis describes the position of loyalty programme in marketing and explains the basic terms as marketing and commercial communication, marketing mix, communication mix, sales promotion and its different forms. In connection with the loyalty programme, the terms as customer loyalty, satisfaction and value are explained. It is also described the customer relationship management and the ways how the loyalty programme can be measured. In practical part, there is an introduction of the Ambiente restaurants group and its previous method of rewarding customers and description of the new loyalty programme.

In order to achieve our goal we have reviewed the relevant bibliography ranging from communicational theories to technical resources of the information technology applied to the organization. We also established what tendencies and effects can be observed by a qualitative study with experts in communicational area, using the Delphy Panel method, aiming to describe and analyze the changes in media, their impacts, and trace a possible landscape regarding the uses of information technology and the communication in internal organizational environment. The results showed that the internal organizational communication has to be sorely computer mediated, but not limited to it, as each cultural and organizational reality will defines its own communicational mix a set of traditional and virtual medias which has to be the most logical conjunction of channels to achieve an effective communication, since the organization demands a wide range of message formats in order to fulfill the needs of their publics. Esta tese trata do impacto nas Comunicações Internas das Organizações em relação à virtualidade e teve como objetivo descrever e analisar as mudanças ocorridas na comunicação interna das organizações privadas com o advento das tecnologias. Para atingir nosso objetivo fizemos uso da pesquisa bibliográfica, partindo do exame das teorias comunicacionais disponíveis e dos recursos técnicos inerentes à comunicação e às tecnologias da informação aplicadas à organização. Estabelecemos a convergência em relação às tendências e efeitos que poderão ser observados, por meio de um diálogo com especialistas da área Comunicacional através de um estudo qualitativo, onde fizemos uso da metodologia do Painel Delphi com o intuito de descrevermos e analisarmos as mudanças ocorridas nos meios, analisarmos seus impactos e traçarmos um cenário futuro em relação à utilização das tecnologias da informação e comunicação no ambiente organizacional interno. Os resultados de nossa pesquisa demonstraram que a comunicação interna organizacional deverá ser intensamente mediada por computador, mas não se limitará a ele, justamente pela realidade e condição cultural de cada organização, um mix comunicacional (com veículos tradicionais e virtuais) deverá ser a condição mais lógica para uma comunicação eficiente, uma vez que abrange todo o tipo de público e formato de mensagens.(AU)

A pesquisa se justificou principalmente pela carência de estudos na área, pela necessidade de compreender mais profundamente como se desenvolve o processo educomunicativo e para saber quais as suas consequências sóciocognitivas, especialmente para as concepções de meio ambiente. Nesta perspectiva, estabelecemos três objetivos específicos: analisar o processo de realização de dois programas de rádio por grupos de jovens diferentes; identificar a concepção de meio ambiente dos jovens responsáveis pelos programas radiofônicos e relacionar as práticas radiofônicas de cada grupo às concepções de meio ambiente dos sujeitos. A Hipótese do estudo se baseou na ideia de que o uso educomunicativo da rádio comunitária favorece a concepção de meio ambiente de jovens responsáveis pela realização de programas de Educação Ambiental, ao proporcionar um conjunto de processos democráticos, participativos, críticos, transformadores, dialógicos, multidimensionais e éticos, demandando a mediação de um educomunicador, o uso coletivo e criativo de tecnologias, a pesquisa, a leitura, a discussão e a adaptação colaborativa dos conteúdos trabalhados à linguagem radiofônica. A metodologia foi desenvolvida através de 12 viagens a campo onde utilizamos como métodos de coleta de dados entrevistas e observação não participante. Acompanhamos as etapas de produção e veiculação dos programas e a análise das práticas radiofônicas foi referenciada em autores da fundamentação do trabalho, especificamente das áreas da Educação Ambiental (LIMA, 1999) e educomunicação (SOARES, 2004). Para identificação das concepções de meio ambiente dos sujeitos utilizamos a classificação de correntes de Educação Ambiental de Sauvé (2005). A análise de dados se pautou pelo método de análise de conteúdo (FRANCO, 2008; MORAES, 2010). Os resultados demonstraram que apenas um dos grupos estudados utilizou-se de práticas radiofônicas que se aproximaram dos preceitos educomunicativos e que isto facilitou as concepções de meio ambiente dos sujeitos nos seguintes aspectos: aprofundamento temático, diversidade de concepções e quantitativo de falas, nos programas e nas entrevistas. A hipótese do estudo foi corroborada, pois todos os seus elementos constituintes foram trabalhados na prática radiofônica do grupo destacado. Em geral, concluímos que a prática radiofônica educomunicativa se relacionou com o aparecimento de reflexos diretos e indiretos, como a reinterpretação e ressignificação de conteúdos, conceituações populares a partir de definições cultas, destrinchamento de macro em microtemas, proximidade das concepções de meio ambiente dos sujeitos com as idéias de autores da literatura acadêmica e formação cidadã e profissional

Na emergência da revolução comunicacional instaurada pelas mídias digitais e diante dos desafios postos pela crise ambiental e busca por padrões de desenvolvimento mais sustentáveis, o trabalho desenvolvido teve o objetivo de pesquisar experiências de jornalismo ambiental praticado em espaços digitais voltados (blogs ambientais). Por estar ligado ao subprojeto Novas tecnologias da comunicação e educação ambiental na bacia do rio Corumbataí, vinculado ao Projeto Temático do Programa Biota da Fapesp Mudanças socioambientais no Estado de São Paulo e perspectiva para conservação, este trabalho considerou a bacia do rio Corumbataí como ponto de partida para o desenvolvimento do estudo de forma a criar alternativas para execução da educação ambiental na região. O trabalho desenvolve análises sobre a forma e conteúdo de postagens de nove blogs selecionados e de um blog produzido em âmbito universitário, o educorumbataí. As análises com relação à estrutura dos blogs e postagens, ou seja, de natureza técnica e operacional, foram desenvolvidas por meio de análises webmétricas e as voltadas ao conteúdo, foram realizadas com base no referencial teórico da educação ambiental e diretrizes político-pedagógicas do Programa de Educomunicação Socioambiental do Ministério de Meio Ambiente (2005). As análises webmétricas e de conteúdo dos blogs possibilitaram, num primeiro momento, compreender as manifestações culturais populares e uma nova ética nas relações homem-ambiente e homem-sociedade pautadas e construídas em processos coletivos de transformação social. As temáticas ambientais nesses espaços digitais têm ganhado conotações mais holísticas, saindo da dicotomia catástrofe e impacto ambientais. O uso do blog possibilitou também um fazer educativo e participativo para aqueles que pretendem atuar junto a sujeitos que vivem em elevado estado de vulnerabilidade socioambiental, em função da experiência vivenciada pelos autores e leitores nas construções das postagens abordadas e nas possibilidades educomunicativas de se trabalhar o ambiente na rede. A teorização é feita considerando as correntes da educação ambiental de Sauvé (2005), os princípios de educação ambiental transformadora de Loureiro (2004), os aspectos da complexidade de Morin (1985), inseridas nesses processos, e os conceitos estruturantes acerca de blog, cibercultura, comunicação e jornalismo ambiental. In the emergency communication revolution brought by digital media and facing the challenges posed by the environmental crisis and search for more sustainable patterns of development, the work aimed to investigate experiences of environmental journalism practiced in digital spaces facing (environmental blogs). By being connected to the subproject \"New communication technologies and environmental education in the river basin Corumbatai\", linked to the Thematic Project of FAPESP \"socio-environmental changes in the state of Sao Paulo and prospects for conservation\" this work considered the basin Corumbatai as a starting point for developing the study to develop alternatives for the implementation of environmental education in the region. The paper develops the analysis of form and content of posts of nine selected blogs and a blog produced in the university, the educorumbatai. The analyzes regarding the structure of blogs and posts, ie, technical and operational, were developed through analysis and webmetrics oriented content, were based on the theoretical framework of environmental education and guidance of the politicalpedagogical Educommunication Environmental Program of the Ministry of Environment (2005). Analyses webmetrics and content of blogs allowed at first to understand the popular cultural events and a new ethics in human-environment relationships and man-ruled society and constructed in collective processes of social transformation. The environmental issues in these digital spaces have gained more holistic connotations, leaving the dichotomy disaster and environmental impact. The use of the blog also allowed to make an educational and participatory for those who intend to work together with individuals who live in a high state of socioenvironmental vulnerability in light of the experience lived by the authors and readers in the construction of posts and discussed the possibilities of working the educomunicative environment in the network. The theory is made considering the current environmental education Sauvé (2005), the principles of environmental education transforming Loureiro (2004), aspects of the complexity of Morin (1985), embedded in these processes, and structural concepts about blog cyberculture, communication and environmental journalism.

As robots continue to enter people's spaces and environments, it will be increasingly important to have effective interfaces for interaction and communication. One such aspect of this communication is people's awareness of the robot's actions and state. We believe that using high-level state representations, as a peripheral awareness channel, will help people to be aware of the robotic states in an easy to understand way. For example, when a robot is boxed in a small area, it can suggest a negative robot state (e.g., not willing to work in a small area as it cannot clean the entire room) by appearing unhappy to people. To investigate this, we built a robotic dog tail prototype and conducted a study to investigate how different tail motions (based on several motion parameters, e.g., speed) influence people’s perceptions of the robot. The results from this study formed design guidelines that Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) designers can leverage to convey robotic states. Further, we evaluated our overall approach and tested these guidelines by conducting a design workshop with interaction designers where we asked them to use the guidelines to design tail behaviors for various robotic states (e.g., looking for dirt) for robots working in different environments (e.g., domestic service). Results from this workshop helped in improving the confusing parts in our guidelines and making them easy to use by the designers. In conclusion, this thesis presents a set of solidified design guidelines that can be leveraged by HRI designers to convey the states of robots in a way that people can readily understand when and how to interact with them.

The raised problem is: can a web site be identified as a educommunication gadget? Following this question, as the investigation methodology adopted dictates, the research major objectives were divided in two categories: one of action and the other of knowledge . The action goals are related to the ACEPSJ s web site project organization and educommunication strategies analysis and development to the site. Knowledge objectives are related to the understanding of education and communication interface in the analyzed process. Data were gathered in the researcher s field diary, collected from volunteers memberships and ACEPSJ s archives. In addition, 12 intentional semistructured interviews with key informers were conducted. Paulo Freire s (1988) dialogic theory is the theoretical framework, allied to Mario Kaplún s (1996) popular communication experiences, that arises in current discussion about a new interface between education and communication that may be named educommunication, according to investigator Ismar Oliveira Soares perspective (2006). The document analysis used as association specific supplementary action research method is the diagnosis, analysis and intervention device posed by Eduardo Vizer (2003). The results confirm the relevance of ducommunication management in integrating education and communication in associations communicative ecosystems. In this context, the web site may be considered as a educommunication gadget Utilizando a metodologia da Pesquisa-ação (PA), foi realizado um estudo de caso qualitativo, cujo objeto de estudo são as relações entre educação e comunicação presentes no processo de construção do web site da Associação Ambientalista Comunitária Espiritualista Patriarca São José (ACEPSJ). O problema levantado foi: pode um website ser identificado como um dispositivo de educomunicação? No caminho deste questionamento, conforme preconiza a metodologia de investigação adotada, os principais objetivos da pesquisa foram divididos em duas categorias: da ação e de conhecimento . Os objetivos de ação dizem respeito à organização do projeto do web site da ACEPSJ, análise e desenvolvimento de estratégias de educomunicação para o site. Os objetivos de conhecimento estão relacionados à compreensão da interface entre educação e comunicação no processo estudado. Os dados foram reunidos no diário de campo do pesquisador, coletados junto aos sócios voluntários e nos arquivos da ACEPSJ. Foram realizadas, também, 12 entrevistas intencionais semi-estruturadas com informantes-chave. O referencial teórico é o da Teoria Dialógica de Paulo Freire (1988), aliada às experiências de comunicação popular de Mario Kaplún (1996), que hoje despontam na discussão sobre um novo campo de interface entre Educação/comunicação, que pode ser nomeado educomunicação, na perspectiva do pesquisador Ismar de Oliveira Soares (2006). A análise documental utilizou como método complementar de PA, específico para associações, o dispositivo de diagnóstico, análise e intervenção sistematizado por Eduardo Vizer (2003). The emergency of a called global society brings the coletivities together, and throws them into planetary orbit. It promotes a redefinition of the Nation-State and, consequently, a reflection of the traditional public sphere concept. Observing the new amplitude of communicational flows allows to observe the rising of civil society on international scenary. Its space for deliberation is related to comprehensions of international dinamic, as well to the human relations transcending national frontiers. National movements point out the recognizement of the transversality of human interests, marked by world public opinion tendencies, tied to the informational growth and the globalization process. This research intends to approach Jürgen Habermas public sphere traditional concept, revisited in a transnational dimension, once themes previously belonging to national agendas move to world agenda, establishing commom concerns, as environment and climate change. Os avanços tecnológicos, principalmente dos meios de comunicação de massa, aproximaram não somente as economias, mas também culturas e sociedades. A emergência da chamada sociedade global aproxima as coletividades, lançando-as em órbita planetária. Promove-se, com isso, a redefinição do Estado-nação e, conseqüentemente, uma reflexão a respeito da esfera pública tomada em seu conceito tradicional. Observar a nova amplitude dos fluxos comunicacionais permite observar também a ascensão da sociedade civil no cenário internacional. Seu espaço para deliberação relaciona-se com as compreensões da dinâmica internacional, bem como com as relações humanas que transcendem as fronteiras nacionais. Os movimentos nacionais caracterizam o reconhecimento da transversalidade dos interesses humanos, marcados pelas correntes de opinião pública mundiais, atreladas à expansão informacional e ao processo globalizatório. A presente pesquisa pretende abordar o conceito tradicional de esfera pública de Jürgen Habermas, revisitado em uma dimensão transnacional, uma vez que temas antes pertencentes às agendas nacionais se movem para a agenda mundial, estabelecendo temas em comum, como o meio ambiente e a mudança climática.

L'évolution des réseaux sans fil et filaires, et des objets communicants qui y sont connectés va vers une plus grande diversité et une plus grande hétérogénéité, et rend possible un plus fort couplage entre le monde de l'information et le monde physique par l'intermédiaire de tous ces objets. Les intergiciels répartis doivent évoluer pour permettre aux applications de s'adapter aux possibilités et contraintes nouvelles offertes par les combinaisons possibles de ces réseaux et de ces objets. Cette thèse propose de palier aux limitations des intergiciels multimédia actuels pour les adapter à ces évolutions. Pour atteindre cet objectif, nous avons étudié une architecture logicielle qui fournit des services de base d'acquisition et de traitement multimédia. Ces composants de services multimédia permettent de réaliser rapidement de nouvelles applications de communication audio-visuelle, basées sur des dispositifs d'interface répartis. Sur la base de réseaux hétérogènes, nous voulons offrir des services banalisés d'acquisition et de composition de flux vidéo permettant de développer un environnement de communication " ambiante" adaptative au contexte. Une description de l'environnement réel issue du modèle graphique Web3D est proposée pour composer les flux multimédias issus de capteurs répartis. Nous validons nos approches par la mise en œuvre d'un environnement de co-présence visuelle, qui généralise les services classiques de visioconférence avec une acquisition vidéo panoramique multi-caméras. Dans l'expérimentation, nous avons réussit à exploiter au maximum les capacités des réseaux haut débit pour diminuer les charges de traitement des serveurs et terminaux Evolutions of pervasive networks and networked smart devices make possible a stronger coupling between the world of information and the physical world, yet they are also leading towards an increased diversity and heterogeneity. Distributed middleware must evolve to adapt to the new constraints imposed by these evolutions. The problem addressed in this thesis involves the extension of current and future multimedia frameworks to meet the requirements of these new pervasive communication environments. To achieve this goal, we studied a software model, which provides basic services for the acquisition processing and composition of video allowing to develop a context-aware environ ment for ambient communication. A multimedia framework for video acquisition and composition is specified using a model of virtual device component. An event-based control mechanism for management of video sensor has a\so been implemented. To describe the real environment captured from distributed sensors, configuration information is described dynamically using a formalism drawn from modelling of 3D virtual environments. The application of our work is to offer an ambient-sharing environment using a panoramic video acquisition from multiple cameras. Como a comunicação estatal deve atender aos interesses públicos, foi desenvolvido um programa (no âmbito do Governo Federal) que incentiva a população a debater assuntos de seu interesse: as consultas públicas digitais. Estas consultas fazem parte do procedimento de implantação do governo eletrônico em todo o país e representam um avanço nas relações entre Estado e Sociedade. Entretanto, embora possibilitem, não garantem a participação e contato do cidadão com o governo. Esta pesquisa faz uma reflexão sobre a percepção pública dos brasileiros sobre a área ambiental por meio de pesquisas realizadas e verifica a importância da participação da sociedade por meio de consultas públicas digitais na área ambiental para a Conferência Rio+20. Uma delas realizada pelo Ministério do Meio Ambiente, em 2011, para receber propostas de diferentes setores da sociedade civil sobre os temas centrais debatidos na Conferência do Rio. A segunda, elaborada/desenvolvida pelo Centro de Gestão e Estudos Estratégicos, do Ministério de Ciência (CGEE), Tecnologia e Inovação (MCTI) em 2012, sobre os conceitos públicos de Economia Verde e Desenvolvimento Sustentável. Trata-se de um Estudo de Caso múltiplo (YIN, 2001), de natureza exploratória e qualitativa, de análise de conteúdo. O referencial teórico deste trabalho está ancorado nas Pesquisas Deliberativas de James Fishkin (2005) e nos conceitos de democracia digital. Os resultados do trabalho apontam para avanços significativos no campo da democracia digital, uma vez que as consultas públicas analisadas se mostraram como meios importantes de mobilização social, contribuindo para uma participação mais ativa em processos decisórios sobre a área ambiental Abstract: Changes in the global communications scene raised the need to involve the public in a more participatory and interactive manner within the context of digital democracy. As the state-owned communications must meet the public interest, a program (under the Federal Government) that encourages people to discuss subjects of interest was developed: the digital public consultations. These public consultations are part of a deployment procedure of e-government throughout the country and represent a breakthrough in relations between state and society. However, although it provides, it does not ensure the participation and citizen contact with government. This research is a reflection on the public perception of brazilians on the environmental area through research performed and verifies the importance of the participation of society through digital public consultations in the environmental area for the Rio +20 Conference. One of them held by the Ministry of Environment in 2011para receive proposals from different sectors of civil society on the central themes discussed at the Rio Conference The second, prepared / developed by the Center for Management and Strategic Studies, Ministry of Science (CGEE) Technology and Innovation (MCTI) in 2012, on public concepts of Green Economy and Sustainable Development. The study shows the communicational flows and points negative and positive aspects involved. It discusses the science communication scenario, from the traditional means to the new configuration in digital media, the cycle of scientific production, the changes in the digital context and the impact of such context in recent times. The study approaches the post-industrial era and the information society as a mark for the development of information and communication technologies. It defines networks as an instrument of interaction and sharing. It presents Web 2.0 as a platform for social networks and electronic tools and highlights their contribution to science communication. The concept of ecosystem is borrowed from biology, applied to the science communication process and highlighted in the functions of the electronic tools available in the virtual environment. The study describes the available tools as emerging models for supporting science diffusion, classifying them as diffusion/interaction, storage and measurement tools, presenting the players and structures involved in the communication process. Este trabalho buscou apresentar e discutir o uso de ferramentas eletrônicas como aporte a comunicação científica, buscando levantar ferramentas existentes além de observar e descrever que instrumentos são apropriados ao processo de difusão/ interação e armazenamento bem como seu ecossistema comunicativo. Aponta os fluxos comunicacionais, levantando aspectos positivos e negativos que o envolvem. A popularização das redes de computadores, o aumento da capacidade computacional e sua utilização para produção musical despertam o interesse na utilização de computadores para comunicação síncrona de conteúdo musical. Esta comunicação pode permitir um novo nível de interatividade entre máquinas e pessoas nos processos de produção musical, incluindo a distribuição de atividades, pessoas e recursos em um ambiente computacional em rede. Neste contexto, este trabalho apresenta uma solução para comunicação síncrona de fluxos de áudio e MIDI em redes de computadores. Além de permitir a comunicação, a solução proposta simplifica a conexão de recursos musicais e permite a integração de sistemas heterogêneos, como diferentes sistemas operacionais, arquiteturas de áudio e formatos de codificação, de forma transparente em um ambiente distribuído. Como meio para alcançar esta solução, mapeamos requisitos e características desejáveis para este domínio de aplicação, a partir da interação com músicos e da análise de ferramentas relacionadas. Com base nestes requisitos e características projetamos uma arquitetura de sistema para o domínio específico de comunicação síncrona de conteúdo musical. Utilizando esta arquitetura como referência, implementamos uma biblioteca que compreende as funcionalidades essenciais para este domínio específico. A fim de integrar esta biblioteca com diferentes bibliotecas de áudio e MIDI, desenvolvemos um conjunto de ferramentas que correspondem aos requisitos propostos e que permite aos usuários a utilização de conexões de rede em diversas ferramentas musicais. The popularization of computer networks, the growth in computational resources and their use in music production have raised the interest in using computers for synchronous communication of music content. This communication may allow a new level of interactivity between machines and people in music production processes, including the distribution of activities, resources and people within a networked music environment. In this context, this work presents a solution for synchronous communication of audio and MIDI streams in computer networks. Besides allowing communication, the proposed solution simplifies connections of music resources and allows the integration of heterogeneous systems, such as different operating systems, audio architecture and codification formats, transparently in a distributed environment. As a means for accomplishing this solution, we mapped requirements and desirable features for this application domain, from the interaction with musicians and the analysis of related software. Based on these requirements and features, we designed a system architecture for the specific domain of synchronous communication of music content. Using this architecture as reference, we implemented a library that comprises the essential functionalities for this specific domain. In order to integrate this library with different Audio and MIDI libraries, we developed a tool set that matches the proposed requirements and allows users to use network connections in several music tools.

Análise de trânsitos discursivos multidimensionais (CITELLI, 2012) relacionados à \"ecocrise\", em busca de encaminhamentos práticos e epistêmicos para promover reflexão e estímulo à proatividade socioambiental cidadã a partir do eixo Comunicação-Educação. Entre os objetivos específicos do estudo, do qual participaram 514 sujeitos de pesquisa (distribuídos em 12 grupos heterogêneos), incluem-se: estudar possibilidades de preenchimento de falhas na comunicação vinculada ao cenário atual de múltiplos agravantes ao meio ambiente e envolver diferentes grupos da sociedade civil na pesquisa acadêmica, verificando oportunidades de contato e estabelecendo pontes participativas entre universidade e coletividade. A abordagem teórica multirreferencial associada a um conjunto de expedientes variados para captação de dados de campo configuram o método estabelecido para a investigação, de natureza quali/quantitativa. Assim, a observação e análise de aportes em circulação midiática, de interfaces dialógicas físicas e virtuais, bem como a oferta de palestras, minicursos, realização de entrevistas e dinâmicas, aplicação de questionários virtuais e presenciais perfazem uma combinação de técnicas (LOPES, 2005; PONTUSCHKA, 2011) cuja intenção foi recolher fluxos discursivos socioambientais de diferentes dimensões/direções, por meio dos quais verificamos aspectos medulares da comunicação socioambiental contemporânea. Entre os principais resultados, destacam-se: a) percepções díspares quanto à comunicação ambiental em rede, sugerindo que variáveis como faixa etária, interesses, velocidade de contato, tipo de páginas implicam (in)eficácia das interações digitais voltadas à temática ambiental; b) percepções uníssonas quanto ao papel da escola básica em favor do compartilhamento de conteúdos educomunicativos socioambientais na perspectiva do território; c) persistência da incomunicação cidadão-poder público (e vice-versa) no tangente a assuntos socioambientais urbanos; d) ratificação da percepção coletiva de que a comunicação ambiental a circular hoje nos espaços pesquisados está mais próxima de informação e não de comunicação propriamente dita (capaz de sensibilizar para engajamento concreto); e) confirmação de preferência majoritária entre os respondentes por atividades ecopedagógicas que envolvam deslocamento pelo bairro/pela cidade, acopladas ao emprego de meios para produção de tecnoimagens -- preferencialmente estáticas; f) observação de que circuitos colaborativos de informação, comunicação e ação socioambiental podem ser proficientes se conjugada reelaboração de conteúdos científicos (teóricos e práticos, incluindo resultados de campo) a aportes midiáticos para apresentação/discussão presencial dos trânsitos discursivos recolhidos e recombinados; g) observação de que o estudo do discurso coletivo socioambiental proporcionado pela verificação e análise de trânsitos discursivos multidimensionais evidenciou-se como fresta epistêmica e estratégia metodológica viável para: g1) incremento da ação socioambiental proativa entre habitantes de áreas urbanas ambientalmente prejudicadas e g2) planejamento multi-institucional dos processos pesquisa-ensino correlacionados ao binômio comunicação-educação ambiental em tempo de progressivo agravo ecológico. Nossa investigação aponta, entretanto, para a urgência em amplificar contato institucional da universidade com escolas de ensino básico (públicas e privadas), instituições religiosas, instâncias de governo e instituições outras, a fim de desenvolver projetos territorializados de comunicação e educação ambiental integrados ao ensino formal, não formal e informal. Tal movimento vem ao encontro da necessidade de identificar novos mecanismos discursivos, comportamentais, institucionais e epistêmicos aptos a reduzir a distância entre as políticas públicas e a participação dos cidadãos nos processos decisórios ligados à qualidade da vida citadina. Analysis of multidimensional discursive transits (CITELLI, 2012) related to \"ecocrisis\", in search of practical and epistemic referrals to promote reflection and stimulation of citizen socio-environmental proactivity from the Communication-Education axis. Some of the specific objectives of the study, which involved 514 research subjects (distributed into 12 heterogeneous groups), are: studying possibilities of filling in communication gaps linked to the current scenario of multiple aggravating factors to the environment and involving different groups of civil society in academic research, verifying opportunities for contact and establishing participatory bridges between university and community. The established qualitative/ quantitative research method consists of the multireferential approach coupled with a set of varied tactics for field data collection. Thus, the observation and analysis of contributions in media circulation, of physical and virtual dialogic interfaces, as well as the offer of lectures, mini-courses, interviewing and dynamics, virtual and face-to-face questionnaires constitute a combination of techniques (LOPES, 2005; PONTUSCHKA, 2011) whose intention was to collect socio-environmental discursive flows from different dimensions/directions, through which we verify the core aspects of contemporary socio-environmental communication. Among the main findings: a) disparate views regarding environmental network communication, suggesting that variables such as age range, interests, speed of contact, type of pages influence in the (in)effectiveness of the digital interactions focused on the environmental theme; b) unified perceptions about the role of the middle and high school in favor of the sharing of socio-environmental educational contents in the perspective of the territory; c) persistence of the incommunication citizen-public power (and vice versa) when it comes to urban socio-environmental issues; d) ratification of the collective perception that the available environmental communication nowadays in the researched places is closer to information and not to communication itself (which is capable of raising awareness for concrete engagement); e) confirmation of majority preference among respondents for ecopedagogical activities involving walking around the neighborhood / city, together with the use of means to produce techno-images -- preferably static ones; f) observing that collaborative circuits of information, communication and socioenvironmental action can be proficient by combining re-elaboration of scientific contents (theoretical and practical, including field results) to media contributions used to face-to-face presentations/discussions of collected and recombined discursive transits; g) observing that the study of the socio-environmental collective discourse provided by the verification and analysis of multidimensional discursive transits was evidenced as an epistemic gap and viable methodological strategy for: g1) increasing of proactive socio-environmental action among inhabitants of environmentally impaired urban areas and g2) multi-institutional planning of the research-teaching processes correlated to the binomial communication-environmental education in a time of progressive ecological damage. Our research points, however, to the urgency of amplifying the university\'s institutional contact with public and private elementary, middle and high schools, religious institutions, government agencies and other institutions, in order to develop territorial communication and environmental education projects integrated into formal, non-formal and informal teaching. Such a movement meets the need to identify new discursive, behavioral, institutional and epistemic mechanisms capable of reducing the gap between public policies and citizen participation in decision-making processes linked to the quality of city life.

A força propulsora da excelência organizacional compeliu grandes organizações a repensar seus modelos de gestão em segurança, saúde no trabalho e meio ambiente. O presente trabalho versa sobre a avaliação do desempenho ambiental de um conjunto de cinco empresas químicas e petroquímicas de um dos pólos industriais do Estado de São Paulo, signatárias do Programa Atuação Responsável da Associação Brasileira da Indústria Química (ABIQUIM) e também certificadas pela norma NBR ISO 14.001:1996. A pesquisa abrange também a verificação da melhoria do processo de comunicação destas empresas em nível interno e com as demais partes interessadas. O trabalho aborda as vantagens da adoção de modelos de gestão integrada nas áreas de segurança, saúde no trabalho e meio ambiente, como fator de racionalização dos seus processos internos com vistas a aumentar a eficácia operacional. É discutida também a necessidade de as organizações demonstrarem seus resultados ambientais e estabelecerem canais eficazes de comunicação com as partes interessadas. São apontados os benefícios e dificuldades encontrados pelas empresas estudadas na adoção de metas para obtenção da melhoria do desempenho ambiental. Constatou-se ligeira melhoria ou manutenção do desempenho ambiental de quatro empresas estudadas, enquanto uma delas destacou-se com melhorias significativas, atribuídas a investimentos modernizadores e à adoção de nova tecnologia de processo. O conjunto de indicadores adotado pela ABIQUIM pode ser adaptado para expressar a evolução temporal do desempenho ambiental de cada empresa. Uma das empresas expandiu o rol de indicadores. As certificações obtidas com a norma NBR ISO 14.001:1996 e o Programa Atuação Responsável da ABIQUIM foram fatores coadjuvantes de mudanças internas e externas, contribuindo indiretamente para a melhoria do desempenho ambiental. Observou-se que todas as empresas têm grande preocupação com a imagem e tomaram iniciativas de comunicação com as partes interessadas; no entanto, os resultados do processo de comunicação não indicam melhoras expressivas na imagem dessas empresas. O Conselho Comunitário Consultivo desempenha papel fundamental no processo de comunicação. Projetos de apoio à comunidade demonstram responsabilidade social e têm sido uma boa oportunidade para melhorar a imagem e o próprio processo de comunicação. Embora as empresas estudadas tenham se empenhado em estabelecer canais de comunicação com todas as partes interessadas, há ainda um caminho árduo a ser percorrido. São apresentadas recomendações para aprimorar o processo de comunicação, como a ampliação do uso de programas sistêmicos envolvendo os representantes do Conselho Comunitário Consultivo e os funcionários das empresas, sendo estes incentivados a participar das ações sociais desenvolvidas na comunidade, como legítimos parceiros e interlocutores entre empresa e comunidade. The propelling power of the organizational excellence has been causing many large organizations to start rethinking the management models in safety, work health and environment. This work refers to the evaluation of the environmental performance of a set of five chemical and petrochemical companies of one of the industrial poles of the State of São Paulo, subscribers of the Responsible Care Program of the Brazilian Association of the Chemical Industry (ABIQUIM) and also certified by standard NBR ISO 14.001:1996. The research also comprises the checking of the improvement of those companies communication process, both in-house and with the other interested parties. The work approaches the advantages of the adoption of integrated management models in the areas of safety, work health and environment, as a factor to rationalize its internal processes aiming at increasing the operating effectiveness. It is also discussed the need to the organizations show their environmental results and establish effective communication channels with the interested parties. The benefits achieved and difficulties faced by the studied companies in the adoption of goals to obtain the improvement of the environmental performance are appointed. It was verified a slight improvement or keeping of the environmental performance of four studied companies, while one of them was outstanding with significant improvements, which can be attributed to modernizing investments and to the adoption of new process technology. The set of indicators adopted by ABIQUIM may be adapted in order to show the timely evolution of the environmental performance of each company. One of the companies expanded the roll of indicators. The certifications obtained with standard NBR ISO 14.001:1996 and the ABIQUIM Responsible Care Program were coadjuvant factors of both internal and external changes, contributing indirectly for the improvement of the environmental performance. It has been observed that all companies declare to be very concerned with their image and took several communication initiatives with the interested parties, however the communication process results do not appoint significant improvement in the image of those companies. The Advisory Community Council plays a major role in the communication process. Community support projects show social responsibility and had been a good opportunity to improve the image and the communication process itself. Although the studied companies have made every effort to establish communication channels with all interested parties, there is still a long way to run. Recommendations are given in order to improve the communication process, such as the enlarged use of systemic programs involving the representatives of the Advisory Community Council and the companies employees, encouraging the latter to take part of the social actions taken in the community, as legitimate partners and interlocutors between the company and the community.

A busca por características de dependabilidade em aplicações distribuídas está cada vez maior. Para tanto, técnicas de tolerância a falhas são componentes importantes no processo de desenvolvimento de um software, e requerem a reprodução de cenários espe- cíficos de falhas para possibilitar uma avaliação adequada. Nestes casos, resta ao engenheiro de teste a integração de experimentos da aplicação- alvo com ferramentas auxiliares para emulação de um ambiente fiel para a execução de testes. Entretanto, tais ferramentas auxiliares, designadas injetores de falhas de comuni- cação, muitas vezes não estão disponíveis para a comunidade ou, na melhor das hipóteses, apresentam baixa funcionalidade, seja pela incompatibilidade com sistemas mais atuali- zados, seja pela implementação superficial de funções específicas (protótipos). Outro fator agravante para a realização de avaliações experimentais em aplicações distribuídas está no suporte a falhas distribuídas, ou seja, injetores de falhas de comunica- ção não, obrigatoriamente, estão aptos a reproduzir os comportamentos necessários para emulação de ambientes distribuídos adequados. Desta forma, este trabalho destina-se ao estudo e proposta de uma solução para injeção de falhas em ambientes distribuídos, em especial o particionamento de rede, e deu origem ao injetor de falhas PIE. PIE (Partitioning Injection Environment) é um injetor de falhas de comunicação vol- tado para injeção de particionamentos de rede. Sua arquitetura distribuída permite o con- trole centralizado do ambiente por parte do engenheiro de testes. Com isso, a criação de uma única carga de falhas pode ser facilmente replicada para os demais nodos componen- tes do ambiente experimental. Apesar de adotar um coordenador de experimentos, durante a execução de testes, cada nodo interpreta sua carga de falhas e processa-a localmente, ga- rantindo a baixa intrusividade da ferramenta e evitando a ocorrência de comportamentos inesperados pela aplicação-alvo. Como mecanismo de avaliação desta proposta foram realizados experimentos com diferentes aplicações-alvo, disponibilizadas pelo framework JGroups, com um conjunto de cenários de falha específico para cada aplicação. Desta forma, foi possível comprovar a viabilidade e utilidade do modelo e arquitetura do injetor de falhas PIE levando em consideração sua funcionalidade, intrusividade e corretude dos resultados experimentais. Communication Fault Injection in Distributed Environments The search for dependability characteristics in distributed applications is increasing quickly. For these, fault tolerance techniques are important components in software de- velopment and requires the emulation of specific scenarios to allow a proper evaluation. In these cases, it remains to the test managers the integration of the target application with extra tools for a faithful emulation environment. However, such tools, named com- munication fault injectors, are not available to the community or, in other cases, presents a very poor functionality, incompatibility with current systems, either by superficial im- plementation of specific functions (prototypes). Another problem for achieving experimental evaluations in distributed applications is the support to distributed faults. Communication fault injectors not necessarily are able to reproduce the behaviors required for proper environment emulation. Thus, this work aims to study and propose a solution for fault injection in distributed environments in particular network partitioning, and led to PIE fault injector. PIE (Partitioning Injection Environment) is a communication fault injector aimed to network partitioning injection. Its distributed architecture allows centralized control by the test manager. Thus, a fault load can be easily replicated to other nodes. Despite adopting a experiment coordinator, each node interprets its fault load and processes it locally during testing, ensuring PIE low intrusiveness and avoiding the occurrence of unexpected behavior by the target application. As an assessment of this work, experiments were done with different target appli- cations, provided by JGroups framework, with a set of specific fault scenarios to each application. Thus, it was able to prove the feasibility and usefulness of the model and architecture of the PIE fault injector considering its functionality, intrusiveness and cor- rectness of the experimental results.

Multirreferencial é o lastro teórico sobre o qual nos apoiamos, incluindo saberes da Comunicação, da Educação e da Ciência Ambiental, com destaque para Citelli (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012), Orozco Gómez (2006), Martín- Barbero (2003, 2009), Soares (2000, 2011), Castells (2003, 2011), Matos (2006, 2009, 2011), Jacobi (2000, 2008, 2010), Loureiro (2004, 2007, 2008), Berna (2010), Pontuchska e Krasilchik (2006), Ribeiro (2004) e Novicki (2002, 2007). Nosso objetivo geral é verificar e analisar os fluxos comunicacionais que conferem (ou não) permeabilidade à Comunicação Ambiental, com vista à construção de sentido e ação afirmativa em região paulistana com problemas ambientais (o distrito Vila Medeiros, São Paulo, capital). O método de Lopes (2004, 2005, 2010) para pesquisa em Comunicação, com seus níveis e fases, associado a contribuições do método Estudo do Meio (Pontuchska, 2011) conduzem o trabalho. A recolha de dados de campo se deu por meio de observação direta e registro fotográfico in loco, entrevistas com servidores públicos municipais vinculados às áreas ambiental e de Saúde Pública na região, bem como por meio de questionários aplicados aos moradores do referido distrito. Trabalhamos, quanto aos respondentes dos questionários, com uma amostra estratificada e não probabilística, constituída de 179 sujeitos de pesquisa: 57 adultos, 62 jovens do ensino médio e 60 jovens do ensino fundamental. Os resultados apontam para: a) lacunas em diversos fluxos de comunicação envolvendo o poder público e os cidadãos, os cidadãos entre si e os cidadãos e as demais instituições/entidades no lócus de pesquisa; b) necessidade de empoderamento dos cidadãos para questionar representações sedimentadas que funcionam como motor-reverso face às urgências de cuidado ambiental urbano verificadas no distrito analisado. This research treats about urban communications flows environment-related, searching for the \'multidimensional discursive transits\' (CITELLI, 2012) that operate in this interface, seeking for the proactivity of the citizen. Multireferential is the theoretical coverage on which we support , including knowledge of Communication, Education and Environmental Science , highlights for Citelli (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012), Orozco Gómez (2006), Martín-Barbero (2003,2009), Soares (2000, 2001), Castells (2003, 2011), Matos (2006, 2009, 2011), Jacobi (2000, 2008, 2010), Loureiro (2004, 2007, 2008), Berna (2010), Pontuchska e Krasilchik (2006), Ribeiro (2004) e Novicki (2002, 2007). Our general objective is verify and analyze the communicational flows that gives (or not) permeability to the Environmental Communication, aiming the construction of meaning and affirmative action on São Paulo´s region with environmental problems (Vila Medeiros´s District, São Paulo, capital). The Lopes´s method (2004, 2005, 2010) for researches about Communication, with their levels and phases, associated with the contributions of Study of the Environment Method (Pontuchska, 2011) leads the study. The collection of the field data was through direct observation and photographic record in loco, interviews with municipal public servants bound with the environmental areas and Public Health in the region, well as through questionnaires, applied to the residents of the referred district. We work with regard to the respondents, with a non probabilistic stratified sample, constituted of 179 research subjects: 57 adults, 62 high school students and 60 elementary school students. The results points to a) gaps in various communication flows involving the government and the citizens, the citizens themselves and the citizens and the others institutions/entities in the locus of the research; b) need of empowerment of the citizens for questioning public representations sedimented that works as reverse-motor in view of the urgencies of urban environmental care verified on the analyzed district.

O comprometimento da comunicação é uma das principais sequelas dos vitimados de acidente vascular encefálico. No Brasil, há extrema carência de instrumentos de avaliação da linguagem e comunicação de afásicos em beira de leito. A avaliação em beira de leito permite a obtenção de benefícios em relação a informações sobre prognóstico e reabilitação e constitui base na qual família, profissionais e serviços de saúde poderão se amparar. Neste estudo, buscou-se verificar a aplicabilidade de um teste de rastreio para detecção de alterações de linguagem decorrentes de acidentes vasculares encefálicos em duas unidades de cuidados específicos, geriatria e neurologia, em hospital destinado a atendimento de alta complexidade. Dessa forma, 108 participantes, divididos em dois grupos, controle (n= 32) e pesquisa (n= 76) foram submetidos à investigação de comunicação por meio da versão em Português do Brasil do Bedside Evaluation Screening Test -2a versão (BEST-2). Foi possível obter o ponto de corte para discriminar sujeitos com desempenho normal e alterado em comunicação. Ademais, este estudo disponibilizou um instrumento que cumpriu a função de ser abrangente incluindo a análise de aspectos preservados e comprometidos em vários subitens linguísticos. A versão em língua portuguesa do BEST-2 mostrou-se útil como rastreio de alterações comunicativas em pacientes com lesão neurológica. Dessa forma, contribuiu para preencher a lacuna de carência de instrumentos formais de avaliação de comunicação em fase aguda, a entender os pressupostos de cada cultura e incentivar o desenvolvimento procedimentos de avaliação corretamente modelados para cada uma delas. The impairment of communication is one of the main sequelae in victims of stroke. In Brazil there is a vast shortage of instruments to do bedside evaluation of language and communication to aphasics. Bedside evaluation makes it possible to obtain the benefits related to prognosis and rehabilitation data and it constitutes a base in which the family, professionals and health services can rely. The aim of this study was to verify the suitability of a screening test to detect the language alterations resulting from encephalic vascular accidents, in two-specific care-units, geriatrics and neurology, in a hospital for highcomplexity attendance. Therefore, 108 individuals divided into two groups, control (n=32) and research (n=76) were subjected to communication tests through the Brazilian-Portuguese translation of the Bedside Evaluation Screening Test 2nd version (BEST 2). It was possible to attain a cut-off point to discriminate the subjects with normal or altered performance communication. Furthermore, this study provided an instrument that fulfilled the function of being comprehensive including the analysis of preserved and impaired aspects in various linguistic sub-items. The Portuguese language version of BEST 2 proved to be useful to screen communication alterations in patients with neurological lesion. Therefore, it contributed to fill the gap caused by the lack of formal instruments to assess acute-phase communication, to understand the underlying assumptions of each culture and to encourage the development of evaluation procedures correctly modeled for each of them.

A cobertura ambiental no radiojornalismo, embora se apresente em expansão na sua quantidade e qualidade, ainda se configura como secundária em termos de prioridade da notícia e afastada de possíveis funções educomunicativas. No presente trabalho, a cobertura ambiental radiojornalística de três das principais emissoras educativas do Brasil - as rádios USP FM 93,7 e Cultura FM 103,3 de São Paulo, e UFMG Educativa FM 104,5 em Minas Gerais - foi estudada por meio da gravação alternada e análise qualitativa e quantitativa dos programas. Para sustentar a análise, foram estudadas as características fundamentais do radiojornalismo, como a definição da pauta, o posicionamento editorial e o tratamento da notícia; e ainda questões de gênero que culminaram na determinação de um gênero híbrido para o radiojornalismo ambiental, constituído entre o jornalístico e o educativo-cultural. Os objetivos da pesquisa são contribuir para ambos os campos acadêmico e profissional para estimular as reflexões sobre o tema e apontar práticas auxiliares para o radiojornalismo ambiental, fundamentado nos pilares da Educomunicação, da cidadania e do meio ambiente. Although the environmental coverage in radio journalism presents a great expansion in quantity and quality, it remains secondary in terms of news priority and is far from having possible educational communication functions. In this paper, the environmental coverage of three main educative radio stations in Brazil - the radios USP FM 93,7 and Cultura FM 103,3 in Sao Paulo, and UFMG Educativa FM 104,5 in Minas Gerais - were studied through their recordings and data analisys. The analysis was based on the fundamental characteristics of radio journalism, such as agenda setting, editorial positioning and news treatment, as well as on the genre questions that defined environmental radio journalism as a hybrid genre, structured between the journalistic and the cultural-educative genres. This research aims at contributing to academic and professional fields by stimulating debates and pointing out auxiliary practices to environmental radio journalism, based on the pillars of educational communication, citzenship and environment.

Este trabalho apresenta uma ferramenta de simulação computacional de canal de propagação para ambiente macro-celular baseada em modelos geométricos e no modelo estatístico apresentado no relatório COST 259 DCM. Para a implementação desta ferramenta é realizada, inicialmente, uma abordagem dos principais modelos de predição de perda por propagação, utilizados atualmente, assim como, um estudo dos modelos geométricos que fornecem as informações de distribuição de potência temporal e angular para diferentes tipos de distribuições estatísticas de espalhadores. A modelagem geométrica utiliza grupos independentes no qual os espalhadores são distribuídos com uma densidade Gaussiana. A utilização desta distribuição Gaussiana leva a distribuições de atraso e ângulo de chegada mais próximas dos resultados de medições do que o usando distribuição uniforme. A base geométrica define o conceito direcional e temporal. A base estatística define o número de grupo de espalhadores adicionais e suas localizações, quando estes existiram. Efeitos como: direção e potência de chegada de cada grupo de espalhadores, a presença ou não de visada direta entre transmissor e receptor a medida que a estação móvel percorre uma célula e a variação da polarização cruzada foram implementados nesse simulador. Desta forma, essa ferramenta computacional simula tanto a dispersão temporal, presente nos modelos de banda larga, como a dispersão angular, utilizadas em sistemas de comunicação móveis que exploram a diversidade espacial. This work present a simulation tool for macro cell environment based on geometrical and statistical representation of the scatterers and on the COST 259 Directional Channel Model (DCM). A comprehensive review of the propagation prediction models for terrestrial wireless communication systems and geometric channel models, that provide, times of arrival (TOA) and the angle of arrival (AOA) for diferents statistics scatterers distribution is realized. This tool uses gaussianly distributed scatterers for each cluster. This distribution is naturally more realistic than the uniform distribution leading closer to experimental results. This geometrically based model simulates the TOA dispersion present in wide band channel models and the AOA dispersion necessary for systems that explore spatial diversity. This tool also incorporates the concept of line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight and its birth and death as the mobile station moves in a cell, as well as the appearance and disappearance of additional clusters of scatterers. The output provided by this simulation tool is comprised of all the complex amplitudes, delays and angles of arrival of all multipath components associated with each cluster of scatterers. Mean attenuation and slow fading effects are also incorporated to the model and fast fading appears as a consequence of the multipath interference.

O Licenciamento Ambiental no Estado de São Paulo, é uma exigencia legal para a implantação e instalação de qualquer empreendimento ou atividade potencialmente poluidora ou degradadora do meio ambiente. Para que os projetos se viabilizem, é necessário que o empreendedor desenvolva um Estudo de Impacto Ambiental e o Relatório de Impacto ao Meio Ambiente - EIA/RIMA, e o apresente à Companhia Ambiental do Estado de São Paulo - CETESB, agência vinculada à Secretaria do Meio Ambiente do Estado de São Paulo, para análise dos estudos ambientais, emissão dos pareceres técnicos e das licenças ambientais: licença prévia, licença de instalação e licença de operação. No contexto dos Estudos de Impacto Ambiental (EIA\'s), se inserem os planos ou programas de comunicação que os empreendedores devem desenvolver como forma de garantir a divulgação das informações, participação e debate do empreendimento com a sociedade, conforme previsto na legislação ambiental. O objetivo deste estudo está em compreender os conceitos que nortearam o planejamento da comunicação nos diferentes EIA\'s pesquisados, avaliar as estratégias e ações de comunicação previstas, o engajamento e participação da sociedade no processo de licenciamento ambiental. Metodologicamente trata-se de uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, do tipo exploratório-descritiva, que se dá por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental. O levantamento bibliográfico alicerçou a fundamentação teórica que buscou situar a comunicação, e sua função, como campo fundamental para garantir e engajar a sociedade na promoção da sustentabilidade de empreendimentos que impactam o meio ambiente. A pesquisa documental levantou e cadastrou os Estudos de Impacto Ambiental desenvolvidos em São Paulo entre os anos de 1987 a 2011, perfazendo um total de 25 anos desde a implantação do processo pelo governo estadual, e que possibilitou promover uma análise de conteúdo dos planos de comunicação. A análise de conteúdo nos mostra que não há um eixo norteador para a elaboração dos planos e que cada empreendedor faz a sua maneira, seja por equipe própria, ou pela equipe da assessoria responsável pela elaboração do EIA/RIMA, ou inda por assessoria de comunicação contratada. Do mesmo modo, foi possível perceber que não há clareza nos termos utilizados nos planos, pois cada um apresenta o que melhor lhe convém, desencadeando certa confusão com relação a objetivos, justificativa, estratégias, ações planejadas e resultados que diferem bem de um empreendedor para outro. Nesse sentido, esta tese finaliza com a elaboração de um plano que seja referência para orientar o planejamento da comunicação dos empreendimentos em fase de licenciamento ambiental no Estado de São Paulo. Environmental Licensing in the State of São Paulo, is a legal requirement for the implementation and installation of any type of enterprise or activity that is potentially pollutant or detrimental to the environment. To make the projects viable, the entrepreneur will be required to develop a Study on the Environmental Impact and to submit a Report on the Environmental Impact - EIA/RIMA, to the Environmental Company for the Sate of São Paulo - CETESB, agency associated with the Environmental Secretary of the State of São Paulo, for analysis of the environmental studies, issue of technical statements and environmental licenses: provisional license, installation license and operating license. In the context of the Studies of Environmental Impact (EIA\'s), are included the communication plans or programs that those responsible are expected to develop as a way to ensure the notification of information, participation and debate of the enterprise with the society, as laid out in environmental legislation. The objective of this study is to understand the concepts that guide the planning of the communication in the different EIA\'s researched; to evaluate the expected strategies and communication action and the engagement and participation of the society in the process of environmental licensing. Methodologically this is a survey of the qualitative approach, of the exploratory-descriptive type, developed through bibliographic and documental research. The bibliographic study is grounded on the foundations that communication, in its function is duly placed as a fundamental basis to ensure and engage society in the promotion of the sustainability of enterprises that impact the environment. The documental research studied and registered the Studies of Environmental Impact developed in São Paulo in the years between 1987 and 2011, totaling 25 years since the instigation of the process by the state government, which allows for an analysis of the content in communication plans. The analysis of the content shows us that there is a guiding axis for the development of plans and each entrepreneur develops in their own way, whether through their own team, or through the advisory team responsible for the development of the EIA/RIMA, or even through outside communication offices. Regardless, it was possible to detect that there is no clarity in the terms used in the plans, since each one presents what is better suited, triggering certain confusion in relation to the objectives, justification, strategies, planned actions and results that are very distinct from one entrepreneur to the next. In this sense, this thesis finalizes the development of a plan as a reference to orientate the planning for communication of the enterprises in the environmental licensing phase in the State of São Paulo.

This hipothesis emerges from authors as distinct as Walter Benjamin, Marshall McLuhan and Vilém Flusser, all of which ascribe large importance to technological mediation in the ways we perceive the world and formalize knowledge. We search to verify by which measure the ubiquity of digital mediation - from the ordering of power to private affections - has given origin to specifical ways by which we perceive, signify and formalize our experience. We inquire, therefore, about the nature of a digital perception in contemporary societies. To achieve this, we examine the nature of perception, through the work of Merleu-Ponty, who defines it as the source of the meaning of lived experience, and through the contemporary work of the anthropology of the senses (Classen; Howes) which allow us to overcome the concept of point-of-view - which defines the primacy of vision in Modern Age -, through the concept of point-of-experience: the way by which a culture perceives and ascribe meaning to the world. Next, we examine the technological character of contemporary Western mediation, taking as a ground the works of Martin Heidegger, Flusser, McLuhan and Benjamin. By making an inventory of cultural manifestations as distinct as chats, networks, games, VJs and contemporary artworks, we conclude that digital mediation has determined a new point-of-experience, in which vision has been integrated to other senses in a more balanced form, intensifying sensorial stimuly, altering notions of space and time, ruled, however, by a subliminar structure inherent to technological efficiency and precision. A pesquisa visa examinar aspectos da comunicação contemporânea pelo viés da percepção. Trata-se de uma hipótese que emerge em autores tão distintos como Walter Benjamin, Marshall McLuhan e Vilém Flusser, que atribuem grande importância à mediação tecnológica nos modos de perceber o mundo e formalizar o conhecimento. Procura-se verificar em que medida a onipresença da mediação digital - da ordenação do poder aos afetos privados - têm dado origem a modos específicos de perceber, significar o mundo e formalizar a experiência. Inquire-se portanto, pela natureza de uma percepção digital nas sociedades contemporâneas. Para tanto, examina-se a natureza da experiência perceptiva, a partir de Merleau-Ponty - que a define como berço do sentido da experiência vivida -, e das pesquisas contemporâneas da antropologia dos sentidos (Classen; Howes), que permitem superar o conceito de ponto-de-vista - que marca a primazia da visão na modernidade - pelo de ponto-de-experiência: o modo como uma cultura percebe e significa o mundo. Em seguida, examina-se o caráter tecnológico da mediação no Ocidente contemporâneo, tomando por base Martin Heidegger, Vilém Flusser, Marshall McLuhan e Walter Benjamin. Procedendo a um inventário de manifestações culturais tão distintas como chats, redes, games, VJs, e a arte contemporânea, conclui-se que a mediação digital tem determinado um novo ponto-de-experiência, característico de uma cultura digital (Gere), em que a visão se integra de modo mais equilibrado aos demais sentidos, intensificando os estímulos sensoriais e alterando noções de tempo e espaço, segundo, porém, uma estrutura subliminar inerente à precisão e à eficiência tecnológicas.

Uma tendência recente em sistemas de computação é distribuir a computação entre diversos processadores físicos. Isto conduz a dois tipos de sistemas: sistemas fortemente acoplados e sistemas fracamente acoplados. Este trabalho enfoca os sistemas de computação classificados como fracamente acoplados, ou sistemas distribuídos, como são popularmente conhecidos. Um sistema distribuído, segundo [BAB 86], pode ser definido como um conjunto de processadores autônomos que não compartilham memória, não tem acesso a clocks' globais e cuja comunicação é realizada somente por troca de mensagens. As exigências intrínsecas de sistemas distribuídos compreendem a confiabilidade e a disponibilidade. Estas exigências tem levado a um crescente interesse em técnicas de tolerância a falhas, cujo objetivo é manter a consistência do sistema distribuído, mesmo na ocorrência de falhas. Uma técnica de tolerância a falhas amplamente utilizada em sistemas distribuídos é a técnica de difusão confiável. A difusão confiável é uma técnica de redundância de software, onde um processador dissemina um valor para os demais processadores em um sistema distribuído, o qual esta sujeito a falhas [BAB 85]. Por ser uma técnica básica de comunicação, diversos procedimentos de tolerância a falhas baseiam-se em difusão confiável. Este trabalho descreve a implementação de um ambiente de apoio a sistemas distribuídos intitulado Ambiente para Experimentação e Avaliação de Protocolos de Difusão Confiável (ADC). Neste ambiente são utilizados os recursos da difusão confiável para a obtenção de uma concordância entre todos os membros do sistema livres de falha. Esta concordância, conhecida como consenso, é obtida através de algoritmos de consenso, os quais visam introduzir o grau de confiabilidade exigido pelos sistemas distribuídos. O ADC (Ambiente para Experimentação e Avaliação de Protocolos de Difusão Confiável) foi desenvolvido em estações de trabalho SUN (SunOS) utilizando o sistema operacional de rede heterogêneo HetNOS [BAA 93] desenvolvido na UFRGS. O ambiente foi implementado com base em um estudo realizado sobre protocolos de difusão confiável [BAR 94]. Através da implementação do ADC e possível simular a execução de protocolos de difusão confiável aplicando modelos propostos para os mesmos. Desta execução são extraídos resultados, sobre os quais pode-se realizar uma analise. Esta análise tem sua fundamentação principalmente nos parâmetros de desempenho, confiabilidade e complexidade. Tanto a implementação do ADC como a realização da analise do modelo proposto foram realizados tendo como suporte alguns dos protocolos de difusão confiável disponíveis na literatura. O principal objetivo deste ambiente consiste na experimentação, ou seja, na verificação da relação teórico-prática dos sistemas distribuídos perante a utilização de uma técnica de redundância de software, a difusão confiável. Através deste ambiente torna-se possível a determinação de parâmetros tais como o número de mensagens de difusão trocadas entre os processos, o número de mensagens de retransmissão enviadas, o número de mensagens emitidas durante todo o processamento do modelo, etc. Estes parâmetros resultam numa analise consistente de protocolos de difusão confiável. A recent trend in computing systems is to distribute the computation between several physical processors. This leads to two different systems: closely coupled systems and loosely coupled systems. This work focuses on computing systems classified as loosely coupled or distributed systems, as they are commonly known. According to [BAB 86], a distributed system can be defined as a set of autonomous processors with no shared memory, no global clocks and whose comunication is performed only by message exchange. The inherent requirements of distributed systems include reliability and availability. These have caused an increasing interest in fault tolerance techniques, whose goal is to keep the distributed system consistent despite failures. A fault tolerance technique largely used in distributed systems is reliable broadcast. Reliable broadcast is a software redundancy technique, where a processor disseminates a value to other processors in a distributed system, in which failures can occur [BAB85]. Because it is a basic communication technique, several fault tolerance procedures are based on reliable broadcast. This work describes the implementation of a support environment for distributed systems called Reliable Broadcast Protocols Experimentation and Evaluation Environment (ADC). Reliable broadcast resources are used in this environment to obtain an agreement among all off-failure system components. This agreement, called consensus, has been obtained through consensus algorithms, which aim to introduce the reliability degree required in distributed systems. The ADC has been developed in Sun workstation (SunOS) using the heterogeneous operating system HetNOS [BAA 93] which was developed at UFRGS. The environment has been implemented based on a research about reliable broadcast protocols [BAR 94]. Through the ADC it is possible to simulate the execution of reliable broadcast protocols applying proposed models to them. From this execution results are extracted, and over them analysis can be done. This analysis has been based essentialy in parameters such as performance, reliability and complexity. Some classical reliable broadcast protocols were used as a support to ADC implementation and model analysis. The main goal of this environment consists in validating diffusion protocols in a practical distributed systems environment, facing reliable broadcast. Through this environment it can be possible the analysis of important parameters resolution such as the number of messages exchanged between process, the number of retransmission of messages sent, the number of messages sent during the whole model processing, others. These parameters result in a consistent analysis of reliable broadcast protocols.

Esta dissertação considera o espaço produzido pelas redes de infraestruturas da informação e comunicação (TIC) em seus aspectos geográficos, materiais e sua incidência no espaço urbano. Por meio da visão de autores como Milton Santos, Marshall McLuhan, Paul Virilio e Mark Wigley, constituiu-se um arcabouço teórico para a articulação de uma narrativa do processo histórico de formação destas redes, bem como para identificar alguns de seus efeitos sobre o ambiente urbano. Considerandose a atual invisibilidade destas infraestruturas nas práticas urbanísticas atual, neste trabalho são apresentadas definições de \"infraestrutura de informação e comunicação\" e um roteiro de imagens de cartografias e representações das diferentes tecnologias de comunicação em distintos períodos histórico. O objetivo é apresentar aspectos concernentes à geografia da informação e sua influência sobre a sociedade. À guisa de conclusão, apresentamos três apontamentos sobre as implicações decorrentes do incremento da incidência das TICs no espaço urbano e no meio social. This dissertation is organized around information and communication infrastructure networks (ICT) space, regarding its geographic, material aspects as well as its incidence over urban space. Through the lens of authors such as Milton Santos, Marshall McLuhan, Paul Virilio and Mark Wigley, we have articulated a brief narrative of the historical processes behind these networks and also have identified some of its effects over urban environments. Taking into account the absence of these infrastructures in the current urbanistic practices, in this work we present conceptual definitions of \" information and communication infrastructure\" and also display a sequence of images, cartographies and representation of different communication technologies is distinct historical periods. Our goal is to display the geography of information and its influence over society. Este trabalho descreve a concepção, o planejamento e o processo de viabilização da intervenção constitutiva de uma mídia alternativa na sociedade amazônica, com suas articulações políticas e de custeio. Configurando-se como uma pesquisa técnico-empírica, seu objeto consistiu no processo de criação de um meio de comunicação jornalístico alternativo: a Agência Ambiental de Notícias da Amazônia (ANAM). Enquanto veículo de comunicação, o objetivo da ANAM é alimentar e fundamentar o debate sobre a questão ambiental amazônica (QAA), ampliando seu teor democrático e contextualizando-o sob o enfoque de uma crítica da visão hegemônica do desenvolvimento - a visão comprometida com os interesses capitalistas do processo global de produção. A concepção de um projeto editorial para a ANAM, sua concretização como meio de comunicação na internet e como projeto de extensão universitária em uma universidade pública amazônica demonstraram que a proposta de intervenção é viável sob as condições estratégicas que delimitaram sua proposição e planejamento. Tais condições estratégicas apoiaram-se sobre os seguintes pressupostos: é possível contribuir para a conservação da floresta amazônica por meio do jornalismo; a QAA contextualiza-se no panorama de uma crise ambiental global, cuja existência apresenta-se como realidade; o debate sobre as relações entre os pressupostos anteriormente apontados se revela essencial para a promoção da conservação da Amazônia. Ressalva-se que a contribuição do jornalismo para a conservação da Amazônia depende de outros processos sociopolíticos para se efetivar, tendo em vista que os produtos de mídia não são agentes diretos da conservação ambiental. Tampouco se considera que o jornalismo alternativo para a QAA seja a única forma de contribuição jornalística para o enfrentamento da problemática ambiental da Amazônia. This doctorate thesis describes the fundaments of the conception and planning - and the process regarding its enablement, together with its politics and costs - of the constitutive intervention of an alternative media in the Amazon society. By using empirical and technical data, the object of this thesis refers to the process of creation of an alternative journalistic media: the Environmental News Agency for the Amazonia (ANAM). As a means of communication, the objective of ANAM is to stimulate and to promote the debate about the Environmental Question of Amazonia (QAA), by broadening its democratic sense and by contextualizing it towards a criticism of the hegemonic vision about economic development, a vision that belongs to the capitalist interests of the global process of production. The development of an editorial project for the ANAM, its construction as an online channel of communication and as a university extension program in an Amazon public university have evidenced that the intervention proposal can be enabled through the strategic conditions in which it inheres. These strategic conditions are based on the following assumptions: it is possible to contribute to the conservation of the Amazon rainforest through journalism; the QAA contextualizes itself in the panorama of a global environmental crisis, which is real; the debate about the relationships between the aforementioned assumptions should be seen as pivotal for the promotion of the conservation of Amazonia. Nonetheless, in order to be enabled, the contribution of journalism to the conservation of Amazonia hinges on other sociopolitical processes, since the media products are not direct agents of environmental conservation. That notwithstanding, the alternative journalism for the QAA cannot be seen as the unique way of contributing journalistically for addressing the environmental problem of Amazonia.

The specific goals are to identify the states (body and environment) and the adjustments in the movement; to inventory the alterations occurred from the exchange of information between body and environment that may be indicators of adaptability; to discuss possibilities of perception and self-organization of the bodies. Therefore, this essay focus on questioning if communication, seen as the exchange of information between body and environment, is the mean for adaptability to happen and if, as a consequence, we may be able to think communication as the key‟ to adaptability. The hypothesis built suggests that by the possibility of exchanging information the organisms rise their survival rate. Thereby, once capturing information from the world coherently and efficiently, solutions of interaction between body and environment are created. Communication would then allow the adaptability process to happen. As a method, we have chosen for this essay a qualitative approach of exploratory character. Therefore, the work of dance A(da)pto‟, performed in a mountain chain in Marumbi-PR, has been used as empirical exemplification to validate this hypothesis. The communication processes involved are identified and analyzed through reports which contain a list of particularities of each investigation day. To capture tacit aspects, videos of the experiment have been used. The theoretical reference taken includes the following authors: Vieira (2006; 2007; 2008) to approach the concepts of Umwelt, systemic parameters and complexity; Moran (2010) to discuss human adaptability; Santaella (1992; 1993; 2008; 2010) about perception and communication, and Katz and Greiner (2005) with their body-media theory to the understanding of the body and the dance. In this essay, two phases of communication processes between body and environment that enable adaptability have been identified. The first as an exchange of information between body and environment; the second, as alterations occurred to the body and the way it creates a communication code of adaptability to the audience. It has been noticed that these phases, though distinct, have sometimes occurred simultaneously, once the body starts, at the same time, to build and structure ideas whereas it continues to reorganize itself to the environmental stimuli. From the analysis of these phases, we come to conclude that the adaptability in Marumbi refers to the possibility of self-organization when facing the mode information to dilate the Umwelt. Thus, body and environment keep a flow of continuous adjustments, not attached to movement patterns. Adaptability, therefore, happens through communication, which may be considered the key‟ to adaptability in search of the human species prevalence O objetivo deste estudo é identificar e analisar os processos de comunicação entre corpo e ambiente que possibilitaram a adaptabilidade observada durante o processo de criação de A(da)pto tendo este experimento artístico como objeto de estudo. Os objetivos específicos são identificar os estados (corpo e ambiente) e os ajustes no movimento; inventariar as alterações ocorridas a partir da troca de informações entre corpo e ambiente, que possam ser indícios de adaptabilidade; discutir as possibilidades da percepção e da auto-organização dos corpos. Este estudo centrase, assim, em questionar se é por meio da comunicação, entendida como troca de informações entre corpo e ambiente, que a adaptabilidade ocorre e se, como consequência disso, possa-se pensar que a comunicação seja a chave da adaptabilidade. A hipótese que se constrói sugere que seja pela possibilidade de trocar informações que os organismos aumentam sua taxa de sobrevivência. Assim, ao captar informações do mundo coerente e eficientemente, soluções de interação entre corpo e ambiente são criadas. Seria, portanto, a comunicação que permite este processo de adaptabilidade ocorrer. Como método, optou-se, neste estudo, por uma abordagem qualitativa, de caráter exploratório. Utiliza-se, dessa forma, a obra de dança A(da)pto , realizada no conjunto de montanhas Marumbi-PR, como exemplificação empírica para verificar essa hipótese. Identificam-se e analisam-se os processos de comunicação envolvidos por meio dos relatos que contêm listados as particularidades de cada dia de investigação. Para captar aspectos tácitos, utilizam-se vídeos do experimento. O referencial teórico percorrido abrange os seguintes autores: Vieira (2006; 2007; 2008) para tratar dos conceitos de Umwelt, dos parâmetros sistêmicos e da complexidade; Moran (2010) para discutir a adaptabilidade humana; Santaella (1992; 1993; 2008; 2010) sobre percepção e comunicação e Katz e Greiner (2005) com a teoria corpomídia para o entendimento do corpo e da dança. Neste estudo, identificaram-se duas fases dos processos de comunicação entre corpo e ambiente que possibilitaram a adaptabilidade. A primeira como sendo uma troca de informações entre corpo e ambiente; a segunda, as alterações ocorridas neste corpo e o modo como esse cria um código de comunicação da adaptabilidade ao público. Percebeu-se que essas fases, apesar de distintas, ocorreram por vezes simultaneamente, pois o corpo passa a, ao mesmo tempo, construir e estruturar ideias ao passo que também continua se reorganizando a partir dos estímulos ambientais. A partir da análise dessas, concluise que a adaptabilidade no Marumbi refere-se à possibilidade de se auto-organizar frente às informações de modo a dilatar a Umwelt. Assim, corpo e ambiente mantêm-se num fluxo contínuo de ajustamento não fixando padrões de movimentos. A adaptabilidade, portanto, ocorre por intermédio da comunicação, podendo esta ser considerada a chave da adaptabilidade na busca da permanência da espécie humana

Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs) are intelligent software entities with an embodiment used to communicate with users, using natural language. Their purpose is to exhibit the same properties as humans in face-to-face conversation, including the ability to produce and respond to verbal and nonverbal communication. Researchers in the field of ECAs try to create agents that can be more natural, believable and easy to use. Designing an ECA requires understanding that manner, personality, emotion, and appearance are very important issues to be considered. In this thesis, we are interested in increasing believability of ECAs by placing personality at the heart of the human-agent verbal interaction. We propose a model relating personality facets and hidden communication goals that can influence ECA behaviors. Moreover, we apply our model in agents that interact in a puzzle game application. We develop five distinct personality oriented agents using an expressive communication language and a plan-based BDI approach for modeling and managing dialogue according to our proposed model. In summary, we present and test an innovative approach to model mental aspects of ECAs trying to increase their believability and to enhance human-agent affective communication. With this research, we hope to improve the understanding on how ECAs with expressive and affective characteristics can establish and maintain long-term human-agent relationships.

Avec l'évolution des systèmes de communication sans fil et la maîtrise croissante de la complexité dans le matériel, il devient possible de concevoir des architectures de réseau dynamiquement contrôlables et dotées d'une capacité de décision ambiante. Dans le cadre de la thèse on se propose, dans un premier temps, d'étudier et d'optimiser le contrôle d'un réseau composé de noeuds mobiles qui communiquent sans infrastructure. Deux niveaux de contrôle sont considérés, l'un se situant au niveau des couches inférieures tandis que l'autre adresse les aspects relatifs aux couches supérieures. Le contrôle dynnamique au niveau des couches inférieures concerne deux aspects : 1- l'adaptation de la topologie du réseau et du routage aux demandes venant des couches supérieures. 2- l'optimisation inter-couche (cross-layer) afin d'utiliser au mieux les ressources du réseau et en particulier la radio. Le contrôle dynamique au niveau des couches supérieures concerne la découverte et l'adaptation de l'application aux services de communications offertes par les couches inférieures. Dans un deuxième temps, nous étudions les contrôles d'admissions. Nous nous proposons de traiter les paramètres locaux de chaque noeud, qui sont intéressants pour la continuité des sessions. Une approche pour le contrôle d'admission est donnée et fait interagir la durée de vie des noeuds et des points d'attachement With the evolution of the wireless communication systems and the increasing control of complexity in the material, it becomes possible to conceive network architectures dynamicaly controlable and equiped with a capacity of ambient decision. Within the framework of the thesis we propose to study and optimize the control of a network made up of mobile nodes wich communicate without infrastructure. Two levels of control will be considered, one being at the level of the lower layers while the other adresses the aspects relating to the higher layers. The dynamic control on the level of the lower layers relates to two aspects : 1- The adaptation of the topology of the network and the routing to the requests coming from the lower layers. 2- Optimization inter-layer (cross-layer) in order to use as well as possible the resources of the network and in particular the radio. The dynamic control on the level of the higher layer relates to the discovery and the adaptation of the application to the services of communications offered by the lower layers. In a second step, we study the admission control. We propose to study the local parameters of each node, wich are interesting for the continuity of sessions. An approach for admission control is given which interact lifetime of nodes and their point of attachment

Em se tratando de alunos não-falantes, é fundamental a avaliação de suas habilidades comunicativas, dada a sua importância para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Visando a colaborar com instrumentos já existentes e devido à escassez de trabalhos na área, o objetivo deste estudo foi desenvolver um protocolo para avaliação de habilidades comunicativas de alunos não-falantes em ambiente escolar. O desenvolvimento do protocolo foi realizado cinco etapas. Na primeira etapa, o protocolo apresentado inicialmente sofreu três mudanças referentes ao lay out e a redação de algumas perguntas para aplicação na próxima etapa. Na segunda etapa, aplicou-se o protocolo a um grupo de 23 professores que lecionavam para alunos não-falantes, três fonoaudiólogas, uma assistente social e uma psicóloga a fim de verificar possíveis problemas no instrumento. Após análise, foi verificado um número elevado de itens deixados em branco e itens preenchidos de maneira inadequada na seção Principal e também se verificou a necessidade de mudanças em todas as outras quatro seções para que houvesse maior clareza aos respondentes. Na terceira etapa, após reformulação, aplicou-se o protocolo a um grupo de dois coordenadores, 16 professores que também lecionavam para alunos não-falantes, dois fisioterapeutas, cinco fonoaudiólogas e dois terapeutas ocupacionais e, após análise, também foram encontrados itens em brancos, mas em número menor que na etapa anterior, na seção Principal. Não houve itens preenchidos de maneira inadequada, sendo que nas outras seções também não foram encontrados problemas, exceto na da Rotina, encontrada em branco em alguns protocolos...(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) Abstract: A number of researchers have been giving attention to evaluation in special education for identifying the challenged students needs and skills. When it comes to non-speaking students, it is essential to evaluate his/her communication skills, given the importance to the teaching-learning process. Aiming at collaborating with already existent instruments and due to the lack of studies on the matter, the objective of the present study was to develop a protocol for evaluating communication skills of non-speaking students in school environment. In order to develop the protocol, five steps were taken. During the first step, the protocol suffered three lay-out changes and some questions were formulated to be applied on the next step. During the next step, the protocol was submitted to a group of 23 teachers who taught non-speaking students, 3 speech language pathologists, 1 social worker, and 1 psychologist with the purpose of checking for possible problems with the instrument. It was verified there was a great number of blank items as well inadequately filled ones on the Principal section. It was also noticed that the four other sections had to be modified for the sake of a better understanding. During the third step, after changes had been made, the protocol was submitted to a group of 2 coordinators, 16 teachers who also taught non-speaking students, 2 physiotherapists, 5 speech-language pathologists, and 2 occupational therapists. After analysis, blank items were also found, although not as many as before. There were no inadequately filled items, no problems were found on other sections, exception made on the Routine section, which was blank in some protocols. Este trabalho apresenta uma análise da utilização da comunicação de banda estreita via rede elétrica (Power Line Communication - PLC) em ambiente industrial. Para análise, utilizou-se um kit de desenvolvimento para aplicações baseadas em PLC de acordo com o padrão G3-PLC. Ensaios experimentais e resultados são apresentados para diferentes cenários que simulam diversas situações existentes em um ambiente industrial. Demonstra-se a influência da inserção de ruídos no canal PLC, através do acionamento de inversores e motores, afim de verificar a influência desses elementos no desempenho da comunicação PLC. Como base comparativa, utilizou-se a distância máxima de transmissão normalizada da rede ASInterface, muito difundida em ambientes industriais. Recomendações relativas à técnica de modulação e tamanho do pacote de dados são apresentadas. Como resultado final, conclui-se que o padrão de comunicação G3-PLC e sua técnica de modulação ROBO atendem os requisitos de comunicação industrial, principalmente para aplicações de monitoramento de variáveis industriais, onde o tempo não é crítico. This work presents an analysis of the narrowband communication through the power line (PLC) in an industrial environment. For analysis, a development kit for PLCbased applications according to the G3-PLC standard was used. Experimental tests and results for different scenarios that simulate various situations existing in an industrial environment. An influence of the insertion of noise in the PLC channel is demonstrated by the drive of inverters and motors, in order to verify a nonperformance influence of the PLC communication. As a comparative basis, a maximum standard transmission distance of the AS-Interface network was used, very widespread in industrial environments. Recommendations regarding the modulation technique and the size of the data packet are presented. As a final result, it is concluded that the G3-PLC communication standard and its ROBO modulation technique meet the requirements of industrial communication, especially for industrial variable monitoring applications where time is not critical.
