A number of public libraries in Denmark have acquired original prints or other works of art since the Danish Library Act of 1964, but only some lend pictures to individuals. Special art departments, bringing together literature, pictures, and other material, have been created in a few major libraries. Art exhibitions are an important activity undertaken by libraries as part of their role of making art accessible to the public. Art libraries in Denmark mostly fall into one of two categories: art departments’ in public libraries, and research libraries attached to colleges, universities, and museums. Librarians in research libraries are in many cases scholars in their own right, while library staff at the Kunstakademiets Bibliotek are responsible for the Bibliografi over dansk kunst (sadly not published since 1981) and for Danish contributions to the BHA. By using cases from contemporary as well 19th century Denmark I will argue that ghosts enter the world of the living as sensations that question both common sense understanding and problematize the unfinished death. Although ghosts have been in opposition to both science and religion in Denmark at least since the reformation I will exemplify how people deal with the broken narrative of ghosts in ways that incorporate and mimic techniques of both the scientist and the priest. Most of these forecasting models are based on the extrapolation of past trends, often assuming linear (or log-linear) development of mortality indicators, such as death rates or life expectancy. However, this assumption can be problematic in countries where mortality development has not been linear, such as in Denmark. Life expectancy in Denmark experienced stagnation from the 1980s until the mid-1990s. To avoid including the effect of t

This paper presents the experience gained and the lessons learned over the last decade within the numerous offshore foundation projects undertaken by COWI in European waters. This experience derives from the close collaboration with, and interaction between the owners, contractors, and engineers in the various stages of project development. In turn, the experience draws on COWI’s vast experience within foundation of large bridges world wide over half a century. Focus is on two pioneering gravity base foundation projects: • Nysted in Denmark, currently the largest offshore windfarm worldwide wi

There is at least one cultural centre in every municipality in Denmark – in the vast majority of municipalities, many more. This means that cultural centres are probably the most widespread form of cultural institution in Denmark. So, it is surprising that there is a lack of knowledge about them. This report provides insight into a central, yet underexposed area of cultural life in Denmark. The report is part of the DELTAG (English: ‘Participate’) project (2019-23), funded by the Nordea Foundation and initiated by the Culture Centres in Denmark association and Aarhus University.

Solar collectors are the core components of solar district heating plants. Annual solar heat yield of solar heating plants on average is around 400-500 kWh/m2 in Denmark. Most solar collectors in the large solar district heating plants in Denmark are ground-mounted flat plate collectors. Arcon-Sunmark A/S is the main manufacturer of the large flat plate collectors for district heating in Denmark. Arcon-Sunmark A/S has installed more than 80% of the world’s large solar heating plants connected to district heating networks.

Denmark has set an ambitious target to achieve a 110% reduction in greenhouse gases by the year 2050 compared to emissions from 1990. Direct air carbon capture and storage (DACCS) is one of the few technologies capable of providing negative CO2 emissions. It is evident that Denmark cannot sustainably achieve this goal without implementing DACCS. The purpose of this white paper is to present the current status of DACCS in a Danish context. In this regard, we describe the resource consumption of water, energy, and land required to achieve the Danish goal of 110% greenhouse gas reductions by 2050

This paper reviews how Nordic countries are working to improving cycling via policy and planning. It takes a national-level approach to review cycling objectives in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, reviews a range of mechanisms to achieve these objectives, and identifies the key actors responsible for carrying out the work. In the discussion section, the paper identifies several findings from the review work with regards to how the Nordic countries are currently addressing cycling at the policy level: - Cycling is primarily discussed as a means for contributing to environmental goals, suc

The excavation formed part of the ERC-funded research project called ANTHEA, focusing on the deep history of anthropogenic heathlands. It was conducted by Aarhus University in collaboration with Holstebro Museum and Moesgaard Museum. The aim was to test a new method of sampling pollen data from different construction stages in a burial mound and comparing them with pollen data from nearby lake sediments with a view to improving our understanding of prehisto

How do they navigate the challenges of selling DEI services to organizations, especially when met with resistance or criticism? How do these professionals connect and network in this burgeoning industry? These questions guided our research project as we investigated the world of DEI consulting in Denmark. Today, DEI is a major consideration for organizations, employers, and society at large. It cove

At the referendum held in Denmark on June 1st, 2022 (Indenrigsministeriet, 2022), two-thirds of the electorate (66.9 %) voted for the removal of the Danish EU opt-out on Common Security and Defense Policy. This result was noteworthy, and it must be understood within the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and in the light of the situation of instability and insecurity sparked by an international crisis, that added up to the effects of the global health crisis. The populist right-wing parties in parliament were against the removal, arguing Denmark would renounce decisional power on key
