Abstract While the trajectory of transmission of art in the Mediterranean has often been understood as West to East, here I will consider the transmission of artistic sources to Cyprus from both the West and East. These trajectories open a dialogue regarding the question of how the many sources that underpin Cypriot medieval art converged on the island. Focusing on commissions of the Lusignan dynasty, as well as other powerful communities such as the Orthodox Greeks and the Genoese, this paper shows that the social and political identity of these groups was constantly in flux; the artistic sty

A survey of some modifications based on the classic Newton’s and the higher order Newton-like root finding methods for complex polynomials is presented. Instead of the standard Picard’s iteration several different iteration processes, described in the literature, which we call nonstandard ones, are used. Kalantari’s visualizations of root finding process are interesting from at least three points of view: scientific, educational, and artistic. By combining different kinds of iterations, different convergence tests, and different colouring we obtain a great variety of polynomiographs. We also c

A new and fast algorithm is presented in this paper for the automatic generation of aesthetic patterns on aperiodic tilings by means of dynamical systems. The Penrose tilings are used as illustration of which invariant mappings are constructed for the creation of striking patterns. A modified convergence time scheme is described to enhance the artistic appeal of generated images. This algorithm can be used to create a great variety of exotic patterns with various aperiodicities.
