This paper presents a study on the touch precision of an eye-free, body-based interface using on-body and near-body touch methods with and without skin contact. We evaluate user touch accuracy on four different button layouts. These layouts progressively increase the number of buttons between adjacent body joints, resulting in 12, 20, 28, and 36 touch buttons distributed across the body. Our study indicates that the on-body method achieved an accuracy beyond 95% for the 12- and 20-button layouts, whereas the near-body method only for the 12-button layout. When we use a handheld tool to contact an object, we feel the touch on the tool and not in the hand holding the tool. This article explores the affective haptics created between star and spectators via the body of Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) in Pathaan. The screen reverberates with the cinematic materiality of his body and constructs a closeness with the viewers to revel in its spectacularity. Pathaan’s intertextuality with SRK’s stardom and the surrounding paratexts before, during and after the film’s release further deepen this spectatorial experience. The screen fairly sizzles with anti-ideological fervour via this body, resulting in an embodied and affective film experience that, rather than its diegesis, become

The use of touch in psychotherapy has been a topic of discussion since Freud stopped touching his patients. Psychology in general has moved away from utilizing touch as a therapeutic intervention. However, several body-oriented clinical approaches, such as Bioenergetic Analysis, Neo-Reichian therapy, Core Energetics, Hakomi, and Somatic Experiencing, include touch as approved interventions. This article explores how touch can be used ethically in clinical practice. Types of touch and ethical considerations are discussed as well as the need for training and more research.

Mirror-touch synaesthesia (MTS) refers to tactile sensations people have on their own body when they see another person being touched. This trait has been linked to individual differences in computing body awareness and ownership (e.g., on questionnaires, cognitive tests) as well as differences in the brain. Here it is assessed for the first time in a non-Western (Chinese) population. Study 1 shows that reports of mirror-touch are elevated in a Chinese sample (N = 298) relative to comparable Western samples shown identical stimuli. In other respects, they are qualitatively similar (e.g., showi

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a contagious infection caused by the dengue virus and is transmitted through the bite of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes which can trigger fever or hyperthermia. Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is still a global public health problem, especially in tropical and subtropical regions, including Indonesia, one of the dengue endemic countries. The dengue mortality rate in Central Java has increased from 2018 to 2021. The data in 2021 reached 2.7 percent. Objective: to describe the application of touch therapy to treat hyperthermia in child

Abstract Erogenous zones of the body are sexually arousing when touched. Previous investigations of erogenous zones were restricted to the effects of touch on one’s own body. However, sexual interactions do not just involve being touched, but also involve touching a partner and mutually looking at each other’s bodies. We take a novel interpersonal approach to characterize the self-reported intensity and distribution of erogenous zones in two modalities: touch and vision. A large internet sample of 613 participants (407 women) completed a questionnaire, where they rated intensity of sexual arou

The growing prevalence of social robots in various fields necessitates a deeper understanding of touch in Human–Robot Interaction (HRI). This study investigates how human-initiated touch influences physiological responses during interactions with robots, considering factors such as anthropomorphic framing of robot body parts and attributed gender. Two types of anthropomorphic framings are applied: the use of anatomical body part names and assignment of male or female gender to the robot. Higher physiological arousal was observed when touching less accessible body parts than when touching more

Abstract In Sunni Muslim funerals in Turkey, the state, religious actors, and members of kin and family hold the obligations and rights to the deceased, such as washing, shrouding, burying, and praying for the dead body, which the author characterizes as care for the dead. The practices of care represent the deceased body in strictly gendered ways. For instance, the coffin design, the prayers at the mosque, the washing ritual prior to burial, and the rites of inhumation are different for women and men. This article examines the intimate economies of touch that take place while preparing the de

Light touch contact between the body and an environmental referent reduces fluctuations of center of pressure (CoP) in quiet standing although the contact forces are insufficient to provide significant forces to stabilize standing balance. Maintenance of upright standing posture (with light touch contact) may include both predictive and reactive components. Recently Dickstein et al. (2003) demonstrated that reaction to temporally unpredictable displacement of the support surface was affected by light touch raising the question whether light touch effects also occur with predictable disturbance

This paper presents the development of an integrated pressing machine designed for both touch panel adhesion and inspection. The machine automates the bonding process between the main body of smart devices and their touch panels while also inspecting the PCB substrate of the touch panel. Thus, the machine achieves high-reliability bonding between the plate body and touch panel by simultaneously applying heat, pressure, and force in a balanced manner. It meets the IPX7 certification standard, that is, the highest level of dust and waterproof protection, and combines both panel adhesion and PCB
