Abstract The purpose of this discursive exploration that is influenced by ethnography and autoethnography is to present how Western-based music therapy intersects with the pluralistic healthcare culture in Malaysia. We will first be situating music therapy as a Eurocentric-based healthcare practice. We will then introduce the history of Malaysia and healthcare culture through a pluralistic lens, drawing inspiration from a popular Malaysian street food—rojak, a form of salad. We use rojak as an analogy to honor Malaysia’s food culture while drawing similarities between the diverse flavors and t

Is Malaysia an Islamic State? The legitimacy for this question is derived from the fact that Islam serves as a core element of Malay identity and culture and that traditionally in the Malays states, almost all aspects of government were rooted in Islamic sources and principles and were cloaked with an aura of religious sanctity. Islam was a source of legitimacy for sultans, who assumed the role of head of religion, defenders of faith, and the guardians of Islamic and customary law, education, and values. In the past, Nepal’s out-migration was linked to British colonial interest to expand territory under its control. National governments at that time also created conditions – for their own political interests – that forced people to work for the British expansionist interest. This forced migration led to circumstances creating networks for other types of migration. Even at present, N
