В статье уделено внимание описанию традиционной одежды казахов с элементами орнамента на материалах коллекции Центрального государственного музея Республики Казахстан. Представлены особенности основных мотивов казахского орнамента, их названия. Доказано, что изучать и систематизировать народный орнамент в отрыве от предметов, на которые он традиционно наносился и для которых во многом создавался и перерабатывался, представляется невозможным.
