Cette communication présente l’ensemble des outils d’analyse et de diffusion de l’information élaborés par les membres du Projet Collectif AnTaReC. Dans un premier temps, la collecte de l’information se fait au moyen de fiches d’enregistrement normalisées (une fiche “site” qui retranscrit les données administratives de chaque intervention archéologique, et une fiche “construction” pour chacune des entités construites reconnues sur le site (bâtiment, fond de cabane…). Ces éléments purement descriptifs sont accompagnés de plans de situation, de plan généraux et de plans de détail) qui sont ensuite intégrés dans une base de données à composante spatiale. Cette collecte s’est, dans un premier temps, concentrée sur les données récentes plus facilement accessibles (rapports de fouilles préventives et programmées des vingt dernières années). D’autres outils numériques ont également été mis à la disposition des participants au projet : une base de données bibliographique, ainsi qu’un blog et un compte twitter pour la diffusion de l’information.

Cette communication collective a pour ambition d’examiner les relations entre réseau routier, petites villes et développement dans le territoire des Arvernes à l’époque romaine, sur la base des données acquises dans le cadre du programme DYSPATER, qui vise à modéliser les « Dynamiques spatiales du développement des territoires dans le Massif central de l’Âge du Fer au Moyen Âge ». L’accent est porté sur la dimension spatiale du développement : il s’agit, à travers l’identification, la cartographie et la combinaison sous SIG de marqueurs spécifiques, de mettre en évidence les pôles de développement et leur capacité à structurer l’espace dans le temps, de manière à évaluer le degré d’intégration et d’interdépendance des territoires. L’un des principaux résultats obtenus dans le cadre de ce programme réside dans la mise en lumière d’importantes disparités dans les niveaux, les rythmes et les modalités de développement en fonction des secteurs géographiques. Pour rendre compte de ces inégalités régionales de développement, il est apparu pertinent de recourir au modèle « centre/périphérie » mis au point par John Friedmann (1966), et à sa typologie du développement régional. Ce modèle montre comment et pourquoi les différentes parties d’un territoire se développent à des rythmes différents, et comment elles évoluent dans le temps en fonction des interactions spatiales. L’application de ce modèle au cas de la cité des Arvernes suggère que quatre facteurs semblent avoir fortement conditionné l’organisation de l’habitat : la nature du relief, les ressources disponibles, la densité du réseau viaire, enfin la distance par rapport aux centres urbains, chef-lieu de cité et agglomérations secondaires. Les limites de l’application du modèle « centre/périphérie » sont toutefois rapidement atteintes, dans la mesure où il est impossible d’apprécier le degré de dépendance économique de ces espaces par rapport au centre. La démarche mise en œuvre pose en particulier le problème crucial du rôle des agglomérations dans la structuration du territoire et dans les processus locaux de développement.
