The final product should fulfill the demands of typical furniture handling, meaning it should be able to be moved around and withstand moderate abuse from daily events. The project results in a functional prototype for evaluation of material and the overall design. The project is based on design methods and design thinking.

The conceptual design of a modular AUV hull in fiber composite material has been determined. The goal has been to minimize the hull weight. Matrix and fiber materials have been investigated to find a composite combination that reduces the hull weight whilst being resistant to changes in the mechanical properties caused by submersion in water and the operational temperatures. A composite of a PEEK thermoplastic matrix with high strength carbon fibers is picked as the most suitable material option and used for hull calculations. Different composite part manufacturing processes are investigated to find a suitable method for the geometry and material that can produce high quality hull modules. Part quality factors such as fiber waviness and out of roundness in shape affects the collapse pressure of the hull. Filament winding adapted for a thermoplastic composite with in situ consolidation is picked as the most suitable manufacturing option.The structural designs considered for the hull are a fiber composite single skin construction (ring-stiffeners possible) and a sandwich construction, these would be manufactured as shorter modules that can be joined together to form the hull. The minimum hull thickness required for a single skin hull operating at 300 meters depth, considering material compression failure and buckling failure of the structure, is calculated for the PEEK/carbon fiber composite material. Buckling is the dimensioning failure mode of a thin walled cylinder with the AUV hull dimensions at the intended operational depth. The lay-up of the composite affects the thickness required so the lay-up is optimized to minimize the hull weight. For the cylindrical modules under hydrostatic pressure a [90/0/90] lay-up minimizes the thickness required and is the recommended lay-up. For comparison of hull weight with the existing AUV the minimum thickness required for a single skin hull in aluminium 7075 considering material compression failure and buckling failure of the structure is also calculated.From the analytical buckling analysis of a simple cylinder hull without joints the minimum thickness is determined as 11.82 mm for the composite hull and 15.23 mm for the aluminium hull, both values with a safety factor of 1.3 for the collapse pressure equating to 3.9 MPa. The single skin composite hull weight becomes 153 kg and the aluminium hull weight becomes 343 kg for these thicknesses. If the added stiffness of the structure from the joints would be taken into consideration it is expected that the thickness could be decreased further, but the relative weight difference between the composite and aluminium hull is expected to remain similar. From the finite element linear buckling analysis of the composite hull with thickness 11.82 mm the buckling pressure is determined as 3.39 MPa and for the aluminium hull with thickness 15.23 mm it is determined as 4.42 MPa.For a sandwich hull the minimum core thickness (using a weak core approximation and quasi-isotropic faces) is calculated as 19.96 mm, with safety factor 1.3 for the collapse depth and factor 1.1 for material failure of the faces. The weight for this sandwich hull with a carbon foam core becomes 72 kg. Based on a heat generation of 3 kW maximum during AUV operation heat transfer calculations through the thickness of the single skin composite hull give the maximum hull thickness as 50 mm before the AUV will overheat. The maximum 3 thickness of a regular PVC foam core sandwich hull is 4 mm and for a carbon foam core it is 21 mm before the AUV will overheat, making a sandwich with a carbon foam core a possible structural design choice but with some complicating factors compared to the single skin composite hull.

In the pluralistic community of architectural education, the pedagogical paradigm has traditionally viewed the design laboratory as the integrating environment, where the student transforms the discrete parameters of architecture into an architectural form. With curriculum structure defining the parameters to which a student is exposed, the tendency is to direct the student through an additive and linear progression. The problem exists to develop a conceptual model that unifies the discrete fragments into a connected educational experience, insuring within the design laboratory the necessary balance between intellectual, professional and self-actualization concerns. The ultimate goal of the conceptual model, is to capture the essence of communication, that is the transfer of meaning, in the unique condition of the architectural design laboratory. This case study documents a comprehensive research which implements system engineering approach for establishment of a Ground Station (GS) at Svalbard, Norway with sole focus of connecting the inaccessible geographical region lying in the Arctic with rest of the world. Several GS system &amp; subsystem are studied and comparative analysis is made on how the communication can be established with the N66 Connect AB (N66)’s potential clients and its satellites that are to be deployed in September, 2018.The case study resulted in analysis of several risks involved during development &amp; operation of the GS,the hardware, software &amp; operational architecture, the features of GS’s system capable of meeting N66’s objectives and the market potential of the service after GS operations.

The Swedish Navy has been using the AUV62-AT for submarine hunting training successfully for a while and it has been found that the biggest drawback is the transport which is very resource draining. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration was given the task to solve this and a hydrofoiling-trailer was seen as a potential solution. This thesis will present the design process of the foil-trailer as well as issues found and how theses were mitigated, to produce a viable design. To develop the final design both current use of hydrofoil vessels and further adaptions needed for this applications were investigated. The project was done in collaboration with Simon Källerfelt Korall, who has during the project investigated in detail the foil-trailer’s roll stability, presents this in "The development of a foiling trailer for transport of the AUV62-AT"[1], which deals with how the experimental- and model results lines up. The result is a final design of a foil-trailer which is constituted of several sub-systems that has been found to improve the overall concept. It was concluded that the concept was viable and if further developed it can be used as a great method of saving time when deploying the AUV62-AT.<br>Svenska flottan har länge använt AUV62-AT för ubåtsjaktträning, det har upptäckts att den största nackdelen med användandet är att transporten är resurskrävande. Försvaretsmaterielverk har därför fått uppdraget att utveckla ett sätt att transportera den, en bärplanstrailer har blivit förslagen som en möjlig lösning. Den här uppsatsen presenterar designprocessen samt vilka utmaningar samt hur dessa kan lösas. För att utveckla en välfungerande design har både tidigare användande av bärplansbåtar så väl som anpassningar av dessa undersökts. Detta projekt är gjort i samarbete med Simon Källerfelt Korall, som har under arbetes gång väl genomfört en studie om bärplanstrailerns rullningsstabilitet, detta är presenterat i rapporten, "Utveckling av en bärplanstrailerför transport av AUV62-AT"[1] som hanterar hur väl den skapade modellen överensstämmer med experimentresultat. Resultatet av studien är en slutgiltig konstruktion av en bärplans-trailer bestående av fleradelsystem som kommer förbättra konceptet. Slutsatsen kunde dras att konceptet är gångbart och om vidare utvecklat kan det spara mycket tid i användandet av AUV62-AT.
