Abstract The activities of the enzymes polygalacturonase, α-d-mannosidase, and α-d- and β-d-galactosidase in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) pericarp tissue were measured during ripening of two normal ripening cultivars, Sweet 100 and ACE 55 VF, the slow-ripening alcobaca mutant, and their F1 progeny. Chile's FONDEF and FONTEC R&amp;D grant programs both boost the productivity of direct beneficiaries, increasing total factor productivity (TFP) by around 4.2 percent. However, spillover effects are contingent on program design. Only FONDEF funded projects (requiring collaboration between firms and research centers) generate positive spillovers. FONTEC projects, which fund R&amp;D within the firm, do not. Spillover effects are nonlinear according to the share of firms within a sectorregion receiving subsidies. Relationships between biological activity and molecular properties of 68 antimalarial artemisinin compounds were investigated in the quantitative manner. All compounds were geometrically optimized at the HF/3-21G level. Totally 102 molecular properties covering hydrophobicity, polarizability, electronic, and steric parameters were calculated from the optimized structures. The activities against 2 different strains of malarial parasites, D-6 and W-2, were taken from the literatures.
