Dissertação apresentada para cumprimento dos requisitos necessários à obtenção do grau de Mestre em História, especialização em História Moderna e dos Descobrimentos
Durante a centúria de Seiscentos, dois ramos da família franciscana missionaram na Guiné. Os capuchinhos franceses e espanhóis trabalharam sob a égide da récem criada Congregação para a Propaganda Fide, por sua vez os capuchos foram enviados pelo padroado português. Foi durante este século que se deu o apogeu missionário na Guiné. Estabeleceram-se na região essas duas esferas missionárias que se demarcaram entre si pelas instituições europeias que as dirigiam e também pelos objectivos que procuraram atingir. Neste âmbito, analisamos a dimensão política da evangelização da Guiné do século XVII. Um território com uma realidade étnico-religiosa complexa, onde Portugal disputava o monopólio mercantilista com outras monarquias europeias. Através dos relatos e correspondências dos missionários, do oficialato régio na Guiné, das autoridades da corte e da Propaganda Fide, estudamos este período da história da igreja na Costa Ocidental Africana, procurando compreender a dinâmica missionária, as relações sociais entre os missionários, os habitantes locais e as entidades portuguesas, a missão apostólica e as conversões ao catolicismo.

Cette thèse porte sur la formation du clergé indigène dans un séminaire français (le Collège général des Missions Étrangères de Paris) à Penang (Malaisie), entre 1808 et 1968. Elle étudie l’histoire et tous les aspects de la vie d’une institution missionnaire : spiritualité et liturgie, études générales et théologiques, hygiène, repas et santé, travaux manuels, revenus. Elle s’intéresse aux membres de cette communauté, professeurs français et élèves venant d’une dizaine de pays d’Asie. L’observation d’une périodicité moyenne (160 ans) permet de suivre des évolutions et des transformations : centralisation romaine et politique étrangère de l’Église, colonisation et décolonisation de l’Asie, conséquences du Concile de Vatican II. Mais le principal objectif est d’étudier un système complexe de représentations. Le Collège général de Penang vise à transmettre une culture européenne, à reproduire un modèle de prêtre idéalisé, l’homo apostolicus, capable d’aller jusqu’au sacrifice de sa vie par le martyre. La thèse cherche à répondre à de nombreuses questions : comment des missionnaires européens perçoivent-ils l’Asie, que révèlent leurs aperceptions de l’indigène sur eux-mêmes, quelle place les missionnaires français, issus de la culture du catholicisme classique, accordent-ils au clergé autochtone, quelles furent les moyens, l’efficacité et la pérennité de cette entreprise éducative ?
This PhD is about the education of asian native clergy in a french catholic seminary, (General College) in Penang (Malaysia), between 1808 and 1968. It deals with the history and many aspects of every day life in an institution led by missionaries : spiritual matters, liturgy, general and theological studies, hygiene, food, health, manual work, finances. It as taken an interest in studying the members of this community, french teachers and their pupils coming from twelve different countries of Asia. This quite long period (160 years) offers the opportunity to observe the evolution of political and cultural events, especially those connected with the Holy See’s foreign policy, the colonization of Asia, Vatican II’s consequences. But the major aim is consisting in the understanding of a system of cultural representations. The General College intends to transmit the european civilization, and also to produce, within native asian seminarists, an ideal-priest, the homo academicus, able to die a martyr to the Catholic Church, if necessary. Many questions are asked : how did french missionaries look at the native clergy they educated, and what does it reavels, wich rank do those newly converted priests deserved in the Church, how did the french teachers proceeded to achieve their purposes and were they successful ?

Prigioniero a Tripoli e falso sacerdote. Apostata e penitente. Supposto martire e, pertanto, candidato alla santità. È questo il ritratto di Alipio di S. Giuseppe che emerge dalle fonti agiografiche e dal cospicuo, e in gran parte inedito, corpus documentario, di cui il primo capitolo della tesi offre un’articolata ricognizione. La vicenda di questo frate agostiniano scalzo di origine palermitana – che ben si inserisce nel contesto mediterraneo dei secoli XVI-XVII, caratterizzato da un continuo e ampio rimescolamento di uomini, merci, appartenenze religiose e culturali, e di cui la guerra di corsa, con tutte le sue conseguenze, costituisce una delle dimensioni più rappresentative – fu anzitutto una vicenda di prigionia, conversione all’islam e successiva abiura, nonché di martirio, cui il religioso andò volontariamente incontro nel febbraio del 1645; di questi aspetti, delle modalità con cui il tragico fatto fu trasmesso dai missionari apostolici residenti a Tripoli e recepito all’interno dell’Ordine degli Agostiniani Scalzi, oltre che delle interessanti analogie con altri episodi di apostasia si parla nel secondo capitolo. Nel terzo capitolo, invece, si dà conto del ruolo di primo piano avuto dalla famiglia siciliana dei Tomasi nella promozione della causa di beatificazione di fra Alipio, avviata in seguito all’arrivo, nel 1653, delle sue reliquie sul litorale agrigentino e approdata, dopo le ordinariae inquisitiones del biennio 1654-1656, alla Congregazione dei Riti, che però espresse parere negativo sia nel 1658 sia sessant’anni più tardi.
Captive in Tripoli and false priest, apostate and penitent, alleged martyr and then candidate to sainthood. That is the portrait the first part of this work brought to light from the considerable documentary corpus about Alipio di San Giuseppe, mostly still unpublished. The human existence of this Augustinian Discalceate friar from Palermo – set in the XVI and XVII centuries, when in the Mediterranean mix of people, goods, religions, also privateering was a significant aspect – is a sequence of captivity, conversion to Islam and following abjuration, culminating in the martyrdom he deliberately chose in February 1645. This story, its narration made by the apostolic missionaries in Tripoli as wells as its understanding by the Augustinian Discalceate order are investigated in the second chapter and compared with similar episodes of abjuration. In the third part the relevant role played by the Sicilian family Tomasi in promoting the beatification proceedings of Alipio is explained; started after his relics were brought to the shore near Agrigento in 1653, the proceedings moved to the Congregatio Sacrorum Rituum after the ordinariae inquisitiones in 1654-1656, and there were denied first in 1658 and definitively 60 years later.

Les réformes sociales, la projection internationale du nouveau régime havanais, la répression politique intérieure, l’opposition des États-Unis ont entraîné un vaste débat politique et intellectuel. Pour montrer l’échec ou la réussite de la nouvelle politique menée, les auteurs ont tenté de nombreuses comparaisons avec le gouvernement de Fulgencio Batista sans, pour autant, étudier attentivement ses mécanismes, ses contradictions internes, ses différences et ses similitudes avec les régimes voisins. De faux documents ont même été produits pour justifier la vision de l’un ou l’autre des camps.57 ans après l’entrée des révolutionnaires à La Havane, il convient de s’interroger sur ce que fut le régime du 10 mars. L’objet de cette thèse estde réussir à comprendre, à partir du plus large corpus possible et à travers la relation entre l’État et les médias, quelle était la nature du gouvernement de Fulgencio Batista. Il s’agit de replacer au centre de la compréhension les actions des acteurs politiques et médiatiques
One of the Latin American historical subjects most approached by scientific literature is the Cuban Revolution of 1959. Social reforms, the international projection of the new Havanese regime, internal political repression, led to extensive political and intellectual debate. In order to show the failure or the success of the new policy, the authors have attempted many comparisons with the government of Fulgencio Batista without, however, carefully examining its mechanisms, internal contradictions, differences and similarities with neighboring regimes. False documents were even produced to justify the vision of one or the other of the camps.57 years after the revolutionaries entered Havana, it is necessary to question what the regime of March 10 was. The aim of this thesis is to understand the nature of the government of Fulgencio Batista through the relationship between the state and the media and to reposition it in the center of the understanding of the period the actions of political and media actors

La thèse porte sur l'histoire de Radio Vatican et de ses émissions diffusées dans plusieurs langues de sa fondation à la Seconde guerre mondiale. La recherche a démontré que Radio Vatican, moderne moyen d'apostolat fortement voulu par Pie XI, devint avec le temps un moyen de propagande et contre-propagande ainsi que de diplomatie utilisé pour défendre les positions et les décisions du Saint-Siège pendant la guerre. Radio Vatican a été étudiée comme un observatoire spécial pour aborder quelques-unes des problématiques les plus vives concernant le pontificat de Pie XII pendant la guerre: la position de l'église envers le conflit en cours, le rapport avec les régimes (fasciste italien, national socialiste, communiste, de Vichy) et avec les démocraties (Angleterre et États Unis). This dissertation concerns the history of Vatican Radio and its broadcasts spread in several languages from its foundation to the Second World War. The research demonstrates that Vatican Radio, a modern means of apostolate strongly wanted by Pius XI, during the war had become means of propaganda and counterpropaganda, as well as of diplomacy, used to defend the positions and the decisions of the Holy See. Radio Vatican has been studied as a special observatory to approach some of the most outstanding problems concerning the pontificate of Pius XII during the war: the position of the Church towards the conflict, the relationship with the regimes (communist, Italian fascism, national-socialism, of Vichy) and with the democracies (England and the United States). The analysis of the relations between Vatican Radio and the Roman Curia, the use made of this means, the contents of broadcasts, the decision to spread them, the modalities and the times of their diffusion, or of what was preferred to keep silent, all these questions have been an opportunity to meditate upon the government of Eugenio Pacelli's Church

This study employs semiotic methods to identify the post-revolutionary roles of former Cuban President Fidel Castro in order to classify the transformations of his character portrayal over time. Informed by Goffman's framing theory as well as suggestions of agenda-setting and priming, this qualitative study analyzes 19 propaganda posters for communications of encoded messages. In this medium, the research explores thematic patterns of sociopolitical and sociocultural signs which add to the richness of Castro's appeal. In addition to providing a unique perspective on interrogating visual images, this study offers a better understanding of the influential power of professional design and the use of semiotics in political propaganda.

A dissertação Fides ex auditu (Romanos 10.17) Primeiro a propaganda depois a fé O marketing interno como instrumento de missão na Igreja Evangélica de Confissão Luterana no Brasil (IECLB) surge a partir da inquietação oriunda do dia-a-dia de um obreiro do ministério pastoral. As assim chamadas Igrejas históricas, das quais a IECLB faz parte, enfrentam grandes dificuldades em manter o seu quadro de fiéis. Esta dificuldade em manter o quadro de fiéis é o assunto do primeiro capítulo. Através de duas pesquisas realizadas no âmbito da IECLB a suspeita de estagnação numérica, com forte tendência ao decréscimo, é comprovada. Os dois trabalhos analisados apontam a mesma direção, embora um apresente a questão em um âmbito nacional e outro traga índices de uma pequena cidade do interior do Rio Grande do Sul. A busca por ajuda chega ao campo do marketing. Desfazendo-se de preconceitos, busca-se uma aproximação com esta área do conhecimento humano. No entanto, antes de iniciar o diálogo é necessário que se respeite a cultura organizacional da instituição a qual ações de marketing possam vir a ser úteis. O segundo capítulo apresenta assim os pilares da Teologia Luterana. Sobre estes pilares está alicerçado o modo de ser Igreja da IECLB. Preconizando comunidades adultas, ações de marketing interno surgem com ações mais eficazes no momento. O terceiro capítulo apresenta o marketing enfocando de forma especial o marketing interno. Buscando avaliar a comunicação interna na IECLB, tema que o marketing interno reflete, foi realizada uma coleta de dados com lideranças desta Igreja. Os dados revelados são apresentados, bem como sua fundamentação e avaliação, no quarto capítulo. Igreja e marketing é um desafio! No diálogo bem orientado, com a ajuda oferecida pelo marketing, a Igreja pode tornar-se mais eficaz no modo de transmitir o que lhe é mais caro: o Evangelho do Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
The dissertation Fides ex auditu (Romans 10:17) Propaganda first, faith after The internal marketing as instrument of mission in the Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brasil (ECLCB) arises from the uneasiness of the daily life of an Ordained Minister. The so called Historical Churches, to which group the ECLCB belongs, are facing great difficulties to keep their members. These difficulties to keep members is the issue of the first chapter. Through two researches taken in the ECLCB, the suspicion of numerical stagnation, even with strong tendency towards lowering numbers, is confirmed. The two researches analyzed point to the same, although one presents the question in a national view and the other brings numbers of a small town in the open country of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The search for help comes to the field of marketing. While taking out prejudices, we seek to draw nearer to this field of human knowledge. Yet, before we begin the dialog, it is necessary to respect the organizational culture of the institution to which marketing action might become useful. The second chapter presents, therefore, the pillars of the Lutheran Theology. It is on these pillars that the way of being of the ECLCB is laid upon. Thinking on adult congregations, internal marketing actions arise as the more efficient actions at the moment. The third chapter presents the theme of marketing, looking specially to internal marketing. Seeking to analyze the internal communication in the ECLCB, theme that the internal marketing reflects, it was collected information with various leaders of this church. What this data collection revealed is presented, along with its explanation and analysis, in the forth chapter. Church and marketing is a challenge! In a well directed dialog, with the help offered by the marketing, the Church can become more efficient in its way to communicate what is most precious: the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

O trabalho apresenta um estudo sobre o modelo de Análise Estrutural de Indústrias, chamado de Cinco Forças, de Michael E. Porter. É feita uma análise histórica da evolução do pensamento estratégico e da pesquisa econômica que levaram, em 1980, ao aparecimento do modelo das Cinco Forças, como base para pesquisar depois as visões de diversos pesquisadores sobre o modelo, ampliando assim a visão básica de Porter. Esta pesquisa, ao mesmo tempo que amplia o horizonte de entendimento do modelo original, aprofunda, em alguns aspectos, a fundamentação do mesmo. Como parte deste aprofundamento o trabalho estuda a Teoria dos Complementadores, tida aqui como um aperfeiçoamento do modelo básico que pode ser aplicado na Análise Estrutural das Indústrias melhorando o entendimento das forças que atuam sobre as mesmas. Como aplicação prática deste modelo, é feita uma Análise Estrutural da Indústria da Publicidade. Esta indústria está passando por uma demorada fase de transformação, com muitas agências novas, outras desaparecendo, algumas sendo compradas por novos concorrentes vindos do estrangeiro e outras se fundindo. Adicionalmente notam-se fortes tensões no relacionamento entre as agências e seus clientes nas negociações de preços e de formas de remuneração, assim como mudanças no relacionamento das agências com a mídia. A análise mostra como estão agindo as forças externas descritas pelo modelo ampliado, explicando assim as mudanças em pauta de forma sistemática, ajudando a prever algumas tendências futuras pela análise da evolução das forças. O trabalho serve de base para futuras pesquisas de estudiosos, especialmente das formas de relacionamento na indústria da publicidade, que tem sido pouco explorada pelos meios acadêmicos. Espera-se que o trabalho sirva também como base prática para uma análise estratégica, e decisões de estratégia empresarial, no ambiente das agências de publicidade, indústria esta que necessita de orientação num momento crítico de transformações.
This work presents a study on the model of Structural Analysis of Industries, also called the Five Forces framework, of Michael E. Porter. A historical analysis is made of the evolution of the strategic thinking and of the economical research that, in 1980, resulted in the emergence of Five Forces framework. This is used as a basis for a survey of the different lines of thought on the framework by different scholars, this way widening Porter’s original reach. At the same time this research improves the understanding of the original framework, and deepens, in some aspects, its fundamental assumptions. This work studies the Theory of Complements, or Complementors, as an improvement of the basic framework that can be applied to the Structural Analysis of Industries, improving the understanding of the forces that act on those. As a practical application of this model, a Structural Analysis of the Advertising Industry is made. This industry is going through a slow transformation phase, with many new advertising agencies, some others going out of business, some being bought by foreign competitors, and others merging to form bigger firms. Strong tensions are also noticed in the relationship between the agencies and their clients in price negotiations and compensation methods, as well as changes in the agencies in the relationship of the agencies with the media. The analysis reveals how the external forces are acting, as described by the enlarged framework, helps to explain the changes in a systematic way, and collaborates in the detection of some future tendencies through the analysis of the forces. This work serves as a basis for future academic research, especially on the relationship models adopted in the advertising industry, which has been a theme little explored by the academy. It is expected that this work also serves as a practical base for strategic analysis, and decisions of business strategy, in the advertising and related industries, which are in critical need of orientation in these times of transformation.

Throughout history and in today’s society, typography has been and still is without doubt a great part of communication. Behrens, an important designer from the modernist movement, believed that after architecture, typography provided “…the most characteristic picture of a period” and “…development of people”. Typography carries meaning and associations, built on the contexts and the design it is used in, that finally creates a typographic image. The Blackletter style Fraktur, and Helvetica were born to serve a purpose connected to power. Important for this research is to understand in detail, the origin of that power and its position: Blackletter portrays features of the Gothic architecture, expressing religious emotions and civic pride, intended for effective writing, and was predominant in religious and educational contexts. This improvement of writing was a necessity for the development of the society during the medieval times; for both educational and financial reasons. As Fraktur became a symbol of Germany, the today’s connotations towards oppression and Nazism were inevi­table as the Third Reich continued to use it until it was banned in 1941. Meanwhile, the post war modernism in the 20th Century, sought objectivity, simplicity and readability in their design, to erase any carried meaning or associations that could have a misleading effect on the information. This period of time paved way for a corporate culture, with approaches towards rationalist and function­alist methods, that expresses authority and reliability. Achieving brand recognition for a wide range of products and contexts was required by the graphic designers. Through workshops that document people’s associations and comments on the shapes and typographic images that both Helvetica and Fraktur create, and visual research made in forms of sketching and adding Fraktur features to signs of institutions and public sectors, I have investigated Fraktur’s tainted image of oppression and political sentiments with the help of Helvetica as the contemporary norm.

Abstract This thesis mainly examines the inner journey of Matteo Ripa (Ma Guoxian, 1682-1746), an Italian missioner sent by the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda Fide to China in the late Kangxi period, during his thirteen years of service as a court artist in Beijing (1711-1724). Up to the present, academic studies on Catholic missioners during the Kangxi period mostly focus on the Jesuits, whereas missioners belonging to Propaganda Fide have received less attention. From the viewpoint of Ripa in the latest translation of his memoirs, the author intends to reinterpret and look into an alternative voice amidst the Chinese Rites Controversy. As one of the first Propaganda Fide missioners serving at the Manchu court, Ripa faced not only a crisis of Catholic missions induced by the confrontation between Emperor Kangxi and the papal legate Charles-Thomas Maillard de Tournon, but also direct attacks against him due to the endless rites controversy. Dedicated to serving the Church in China, Ripa convinced himself that he entered the imperial court as a painter rather than a missioner. He also adopted a measure of accommodation to the “Ricci’s tradition” and established a college in Beijing to educate young Chinese to be missioners. However, due to the chaotic situation within Catholic missions, the Jesuits were vigilant against these “non-Jesuit court missioners,” while Ripa often felt perplexed and miserable in his heart for his court service. This thesis is divided into three parts: The first chapter introduces the situation of Catholic missions in China before the arrival of Ripa, origins of the Chinese Rites Controversy, the course of Ripa’s entry to China and the court, his inner struggle toward obtaining an imperial permit to stay in China, followed by a name list of the missionary delegation sent from Rome in 1707; The second chapter analyses and recounts the formation of court missionary communities during Ming and Qing dynasties, compiles statistics of court missioners and their ratio during Ripa’s thirteen-year service in Beijing as well as discusses the changing role of Ripa in the court, his difficult position and attacks he suffered according to his memoirs; The last chapter begins with Ripa’s departure from China and then examines the crisis of Catholic missions in the late Kangxi period, two imperial funerals that Ripa attended and the situation of Catholic missions during the early years of Emperor Yongzheng’s reign so as to analyze changes in Ripa’s inner world when he decided to leave China. According to the tradition, St. Thomas, the apostle of Christ, went to India to proclaim the Gospel of Christ. After St. Thomas some missionaries were sent from occident to continue the missionary work in orient. But, an organized missionary work is happened only after the discovery of the sea route to India under Portuguese Padroado. The diocese of Cochin and the Portuguese Padroado are two important terms in the study of the history of the catholic Church in India. As the first Portuguese political and religious center and the second diocese in India, the diocese of Cochin has got an important place in the history of the Church in India. The missionary work started by the Padroado missionaries at the beginning of 16th century consists of conversion of the local people to Christianity, creation of the small Christian communities, construction of churches etc. Jesuits, Franciscans and Dominicans were prominent in the mission field of Cochin. This dissertation studies the method of missionary work of the Padroado in the diocese of Cochin, the time of the breve Multa Præclare and the new vision of the Church on Mission which is explained through two papal documents Maximum Illud and Rerum Ecclesiæ and how it reflected in the missionary expansion of the diocese of Cochin.

It is common for us to propagate the manner of surviving in the fire disaster area, by playing the videos produced by Fire Bureau, newspapers, television, door-to-door home visiting, and briefing the concept in crowded places, but these are passive way. According to the statistics of the Fire Department, New Taipei City Government, the victims in fire accident were mostly founded in the bedroom, living room, bathroom or staircase. Therefore, how to improve the people's concept of escaping from disaster area is the target in this study. Using the Google Form to create a survival game for public, they can enjoy the game and learn relevant knowledge simultaneously. Also, we can know whether it is beneficial to use the GOOGLE file form game to promote the concept of surviving in the fire disaster area.

Looking at the statistical analysis of the causes of fire types and places in recent years,When a fire occurs, the type of house (the building that is transparent and has no fire alarm device (apartment, house below 5th floor) is more likely to cause casualties.. The reason is often due to the lack of early warning equipment in this type of facility, which can cause early warning and early escape in case of fire. On the other hand, casualties may be caused by wrong means of evacuation and difficulties in evacuation. In view of this, the method for setting residential fire alarms issued on December 30, 1999 in the Republic of China, in addition to the mandatory establishment of fire alarms for residential use, also stipulates that the management authority of non-fire alarm automatic alarm equipment in residential places is also fire alarms should be installed,Through active promotion and advocacy, This study attempted to understand the level of awareness among residents of Kaohsiung City about this device, and analyzed the findings after questionnaires were issued and retrieved.(Ⅰ) The target of the promotion is mainly male, so that better results can be obtained. (Ⅱ) Older people accept higher willingness to promote (Ⅲ) The occupation of the manufacturing industry is highly acceptable to the fire alarm. (Ⅳ) People who have installed the fire alarm in their homes have a high degree of acceptance. (Ⅴ) For the public, promotion of the fire brigade is the most effective way to understand the fire alarm.(VI) Buy fire alarms with budget and donations to Asylum seekers, or people living in high-risk homes can reduce the risk of fire and increase the installation rate. It is hoped that the results of this study can be used as reference for colleagues' advocacy.

Abstract The means of publicizing the concepts of fire nowadays are mainly through sending people to schools, housing apartments, or paperwork. In addition, we set up camping areas and make teaching props on our own during festivals to introduce the concepts. In the situation of lacking manpower, I egarly await the day that we can find a way to improve efficiency of publication by combining the information of fire and video games. Therefore, I try to create the game, making people truely understand the concepts of vertical escaping and door-closing to stop chocking smoke by means of the Unity 3D. Last but not least, the test before-and-after the game will also be given to experimental subjects to evaluate the differences by the time whey play, meanwhile, I'd like to thoroughly investigate if the Unity3D-game can really elevate the effectiveness. motivation and publication of civilians. The Prefecture of Pella bought Heirachabis in 1895 and occupied it in 1898. This marked the beginning of the Mission in the South. The Oblates of Mary Immaculate officially started on 8 December 1896. They were allowed to minister among the Europeans and among Africans, not ministered to by a Protestant Mission. The first expansion was at Klein Windhoek, and at Swakopmund being the gateway to the Protectorate. The Tswana invited the Mission to help them after they had arrived from the Cape. Aminuis and Epukiro were founded. After 1905 the Mission was allowed to open stations among the Herera and Damara. Doebra, Gobabis, Usakos, Omaruru, and Okombahe were the result. Seven expeditions were undertaken to reach Kavango. After many failures the first mission became a reality at Nyangana in 1910. Just before the war the expansion reached Grootfontein, Tsumeb and Kokasib. In the South missions were opened at Warmbad, Gabis, Keetmanshoop, Luederitz and Gibeon. World War I scattered the African population of the towns which disturbed the missionary work. The S. A. Administration allowed most missionaries to stay. After the Peace Conference S. W. A. became a Mandate of S. A. In 1924 permission was granted to enter Owambo. The first station was opened in Ukuambi, later followed by Ombalantu and Okatana. In 1926 the Prefecture of Lower Cimbebasia was elevated to the Vicariate of Windhoek, while the Prefecture of Great Namaqualand became the Vicariate of Keetmanshoop in 1930. World War II left the missionary activities undisturbed. In 1943 Magistrate Trollop in Caprivi invited the Catholic Mission in 1943 to come and open educational and health facilities. The South expanded into Stampriet, Witkrans, Aroab, Mariental. The election victory in 1948 in South Africa of the Afrikaner Parties with the resulting apartheid legislation negatively affected the missions in S. W. A. After 1965 the influence of Vatican II became noticeable, while the pressure of the United Nations Organisation moved the territory towards independence. While initially the Catholic Church had been very cautious, in the ?O's and 80's she took a very definite stand in favour of human rights. She also became a full member of the CCN.

On January 20 of 2001, “The Year of International Volunteers”, "Law of Voluntary Service" was published, which set a new milestone for volunteer service in Taiwan. So far, the number of volunteers has reached more than one million people, Volunteer service is getting important in the field of social welfare or public service matters. In this research, questionnaires are filled by the volunteers in the fire propaganda team of Nantou County Fire Department (written as propaganda team below). The theme is to investigate the relationship between volunteer service participating motivation, learning satisfaction and job involvement. A total of 421 questionnaires were issued, and 408 valid questionnaires were collected, analyzed by SPSS 22.0. The results of this study are as follows: (1)The volunteers in the fire-propaganda team middle-aged or elderly females, about 50 to 59 years old, not retired, highly educated, and in fair condition of health. (2)The propaganda team volunteers have high participation motivation. (3)The motive for participation is not influenced by the difference of retirement. (4)The job involvement is not influenced by the difference of retirement or education levels. (5)The propaganda team volunteers’ participating motivation promotes learning satisfaction and job involvement. (6)The propaganda team volunteers’ learning satisfaction promotes job involvement. The number of fires declines every year due to the construction mode, the completion of laws and regulations, the public awareness of disaster prevention, which is what we are happy to see. However, the casualties of buildings fires do not decline, indicating that the multiple condominiums housing with massive population load, an accidently caused fire would turn into a total disaster. By holding fire preventing propagandas every year, making people to attach importance to the fire prevention and household fires evacuations. The motivation of this study is that are these propagandas making progress in disaster preventing and evacuations of household fire. Through the SPSS, we get the results of the survey collected in this study, (1) the self-protect fire protection group only consisted by the fire engineering company or the building management committee, resulting that the actual disaster happens, most of people do not know how to deal with. (2) Those firefighters have 11 to 20 years of seniority are not as good as new ones and senior associates in propaganda. There are too many publicity sessions each year, which leads to the fatigue of the propaganda staff and the loss of teaching enthusiasm. At last, based on these results, this paper puts forward the self-protect fire-fighting group consisted by the condominium housing, and convene the disaster prevention propaganda teacher's class, as the basis for the planning of disaster prevention and promotion activities.
