The defining features of developmental psychopathology concepts include attention to the understanding of causal processes, appreciation of the role of developmental mechanisms, and consideration of continuities and discontinuities between normality and psychopathology. Accomplishments with respect to these issues are reviewed in relation to attachment disorders, antisocial behavior, autism, depressive disorder, schizophrenia, and intellectual development. Major research challenges remain in relation to measurement issues, comorbidity, gender differences, cognitive processing, nature–nurture interplay, heterotypic continuity, continuities between normal variations and disorders, developmental programming, and therapeutic mechanisms in effective treatments.

Consistent individual differences in behaviour are widespread in animals, but the proximate mechanisms driving these differences remain largely unresolved. Parasitism and immune challenges are hypothesized to shape the expression of animal personality traits, but few studies have examined the influence of neonatal immune status on the development of adult personality. We examined how non-pathogenic immune challenges, administered at different stages of development, affected two common measures of personality, activity and exploratory behaviour, as well as colour-dependent novel object exploration in adult male mallard ducks ( Anas platyrhynchos ). We found that individuals that were immune-challenged during the middle (immediately following the completion of somatic growth) and late (during the acquisition of nuptial plumage) stages of development were more active in novel environments as adults relative to developmentally unchallenged birds or those challenged at an earlier developmental time point. Additionally, individuals challenged during the middle stage of development preferred orange and avoided red objects more than those that were not immune-challenged during development. Our results demonstrate that, in accordance with our predictions, early-life immune system perturbations alter the expression of personality traits later in life, emphasizing the role that developmental plasticity plays in shaping adult personality, and lending support to recent theoretical models that suggest that parasite pressure may play an important role in animal personality development.

We discuss the major processes involved in individuals’ motivation and self-regulation of goal striving throughout the life course. While much is regulated based on the biological and societal scaffolding of lifespan development, certain challenges for motivation and self-regulation are more substantial and need to be managed by the individual, providing opportunities for researchers for testing the limits of individual capacities in developmental regulation. These challenging circumstances include major changes in age-graded opportunities for goal pursuit, uncertain or obfuscated opportunities, and major unexpected losses of control. Under such challenging circumstances, the consequences of individual differences in motivational self-regulation, such as optimism, action vs. state orientation, and goal-disengagement capacity are enhanced and may contribute to adaptive patterns of developmental regulation.

Arab stage plays took their time in the development and making their place in the world throughout the ancient times. The article shines a light on the phases and struggles Arab theatre went through in making such majestic art and performances that are a source of entertainment for people from all over the world. Mainly the struggles were because of religious issues that initiated many other issues like the censorship and not having enough popularity in the Arab states that put up a limit to the theatre establishments forcing the artists to make journeys in order to seek their audience as many things did not sit well in the mindsets of the religious Arabs. However, later on, the theatre started stretching its roots in the hearts of the audience. Performances like Shadow Puppetry and Passion plays took over many viewers and became an important part of the Arab culture. One of the most important eras in the history of Arabic drama development was that of the Egyptian era, which holds a reputation to this time and tells a lot of religious and historic stories through its innovative art play. The article also highlights the great contribution of Ibn Danyal Al-Khuzai to the plays through his three phenomenal theatre scripts that were enacted upon by many diverse cultures and ethnicities, furthermore, the influence Western drama culture made in Arab states and its impact that came with series of events.

AbstractWith a population of over 1.4 billion surpassing China's in 2023, India has now become the world's most populous country. Despite its robust IT and service sectors propelling it to become the fifth‐largest economy, India still grapples with low GDP per capita and significant poverty. The paradoxical nature of India's development necessitates a closer examination of its governance. Over 90% of the Indian population works outside the purview of formal democratic institutions and capital‐intensive economic sectors. Challenges arise from the need to sustain a large poor population with limited resources while catering to the formal sector that generates more than half of its GDP. India's governance exhibits a deep mismatch between its institutional design, politics and developmental needs. This article explores the duality of informal and formal sectors underlying challenges in Indian governance by way of the Berggruen Governance Index.

This research aimed to investigate potential root causes of challenges that arise and explain what drives the development of academic leadership behaviors in Ethiopia's public university context. The authors employed a cross-sectional survey design to achieve the research objective. The study established 540 sample units using Cochran's (1977) sample size determination and correction techniques, and further employed a stratified random sampling technique to select the stated sample academic leaders from three bands of six public universities. Among the 540 questionnaire papers distributed to participants, 487 (90.2%) were properly filled out and submitted. The collected data was recorded, organized, and analyzed using Excel and STATA-12. The study employed multivariate regression analysis using STATA-12 to scrutinize if subordinates' developmental challenges were attributed to the development of immediate academic leaders' behaviors. As a result, the study investigated the selected potential challenges that accounted for the highest variation in explaining the deviation in instructional leadership behavior (R2 = 0.16) compared to the variants in transformational (R2 = 0.11), transactional (R2 = 0.09), and laissezfaire (R2 = 0.04) leadership behaviors. This insight argues that the variety of complete academic leadership behaviors in public universities can be explained by one or more developmental challenges, such as members' novelty, staying up-to-date, challenging the status quo, being innovative, questioning immoral acts, and taking risks. The study suggests that reasonable potential sources of developmental challenges in academic governance are useful for the development of academic leadership behaviors in the public university context. Thus, the rational challenge is a developmental tool to advance academic leadership behaviors. The policy makers need to rethink and re-formulate academic governance policy dimensions that provide faculty members legal opportunities to challenge superiors either to stop immoral academic governance or to promote innovative academic governance in the university context. Background: We have observed that 75% of children with neurodevelopmental challenges visiting the Developmental Pediatrics department of this institution have sleep wake disorders. Disturbed sleep has a negative effect on learning and behavior. In this study we assessed the effectiveness of melatonin in improving sleep wake disorders in children with developmental compromise from this south Indian state. Methods: Children with developmental challenges having sleep wake disorders confirmed by the pediatric insomnia severity index PISI, who were prescribed a daily dose of 3mg of melatonin participated in this prospective, observational, longitudinal study if the parents gave written informed consent. Parents were educated in the practice of sleep hygiene. The sleep disturbance scale for children (SDSC) was used to assess the overall pattern of sleep and six common disorders before and three weeks after starting melatonin. Results: Based on the PISI scores, 13, 58 and 20 children had mild, moderate and severe insomnia respectively. Melatonin improved sleep latency, increased duration of sleep, decreased night awakenings, crying spells, dreams and daytime drowsiness. There was a significant improvement in the sleep pattern as indicated by better scores in the total SDSC score as well the scores for the six sleep disorders (p<0.001). Conclusions: Melatonin has a significant role to play in regulating duration and quality of sleep and improving sleep pattern in developmentally challenged children with sleep-wake disorders.

Development from single cells to multicellular tissues and organs involves more than just the exact replication of cells, which is known as differentiation. The primary focus of research into the mechanism of differentiation has been differences in gene expression profiles between individual cells. However, it has predominantly been conducted at low throughput and bulk levels, challenging the efforts to understand molecular mechanisms of differentiation during the developmental process in animals and humans. During the last decades, rapid methodological advancements in genomics facilitated the ability to study developmental processes at a genome-wide level and finer resolution. Particularly, sequencing transcriptomes at single-cell resolution, enabled by single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq), was a breath-taking innovation, allowing scientists to gain a better understanding of differentiation and cell lineage during the developmental process. However, single-cell isolation during scRNA-seq results in the loss of the spatial information of individual cells and consequently limits our understanding of the specific functions of the cells performed by different spatial regions of tissues or organs. This greatly encourages the emergence of the spatial transcriptomic discipline and tools. Here, we summarize the recent application of scRNA-seq and spatial transcriptomic tools for developmental biology. We also discuss the limitations of current spatial transcriptomic tools and approaches, as well as possible solutions and future prospects.

ABSTRACT The close relationship among oral, systemic and psychologic health requires that oral health be evaluated thoroughly as part of health maintenance supervision. An understanding of normal sequence and patterns of tooth eruption is the foundation for identifying and treating children with abnormal dental development. Distinguishing normal from pathological dental development requires careful evaluation of the patient, including medical, dental and family history, clinical examination, radiographic evaluation and possibly special laboratory tests. Developmental anomalies of teeth are marked deviations from the normal standards in color, contour, size, number, and degree of development of the teeth. Systemic as well as local factors may operate to produce these developmental disturbances. These developmental anomalies have multiple, complex problems as they affect both form and function and can have significant psychological impact. These conditions may present early in life and require both immediate intervention and management of a protracted nature, including coordination of multi-disciplinary carealongwith accurate diagnosis, timely intervention with a comprehensive treatment plan. This paper presents a clinical update on the various dental anomalies alongwith their management options and consequences.

Over the past decade there has been considerable growth and maturation of research concerning contemporary urban tourism. Tourism in major cities is not a new phenomenon rather it has existed from the earliest times of civilization following the birth of cities. The historical development of cities as tourist destinations has remained little investigated as urban tourism research is overwhelmingly ‘present-minded’. This paper addresses the neglect of historical studies in urban tourism. Using archival sources an investigation is undertaken of the early development of tourism in Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city, which evolved from a gold mining camp established in 1886. The analysis focuses on the period from 1920 when the first tourism promotional activities were initiated to 1950 when national government enacted the Group Areas Act which began the radical reshaping of tourism in South Africa under the influence of apartheid legislation. In the formative years of urban tourism in Johannesburg between 1920 and 1950 two key overarching challenges are identified. These are the challenges of identifying and promoting the city’s tourism assets and of the building of a competitive infrastructure for tourism development, most notably in terms of the hotel accommodation sector.

The general objective of this study was to use the socio-cultural indicators of development in interrogating Nigeria’s developmental challenges. The Nigerian nation is the seventh most populated country on earth. The development of such a location consequently continues to attract research attention. The paper’s theoretical framework is combinatory, embedding the modernization and elite theories. The documentary method of research was adopted for the work involving the reexamination and amplification of secondary sources of information, on the bases of which the paper’s findings were made. The paper found that on the grounds of the considered socio-cultural indicators, Nigeria remains underdeveloped. It is concluded and recommended in the paper that to defeat the existing developmental challenges in the country, the national political elite must follow the lines of leadership dependability in governance

Purpose – To link the different levels of maturity of Service Centers (SCs) in multinational companies to the challenges faced by this organizational arrangement. Design/methodology/approach – Using a qualitative approach, we conducted a multiple case study with data collection, via semi-structured interviews, with managers of three multinational companies, based in SCs in southern and southeastern Brazil. The interviews were recorded and transcribed, and a content analysis was made based on four pre-defined categories using a theoretical framework. Findings – Results show that challenges arise depending on the Center's level of development and are related to organizational structure; cost reduction; customer relationship management; and processes. Some challenges have always recurred at SCs, others are not relevant initially, and then become more important, while others decrease in complexity over time. Originality/value – As a theoretical contribution, in addition to proposing a three-stage analysis, this study demonstrates the importance of examining each with its specific challenges. The understanding that a SC develops based on tensions and solutions demonstrates the dynamics and complexity of this phenomenon. The study also encourages and guides managers in organizations, who are planning a SC or who already have one set up, to align their resources and work with the measures needed to deal with the challenges of each stage and maximize the use of resources for better results at the SC. Keywords - Service Center. Service Center Stages. Organizational management.
