People routinely regulate their emotions in order to function more effectively at work, to behave more appropriately in social situations, or simply to feel better. Recently, researchers have begun to examine how people shape their affective states using digital technologies, such as smartphones. In this article, we discuss the emergence of digital emotion regulation, both as a widespread behavioral phenomenon and a new cross-disciplinary field of research. This field bridges two largely distinct areas of enquiry: (a) psychological research into how and why people regulate their emotions, whic

Emotion regulation is the ability to manage, direct, and adapt emotional responses to various situations. Among adolescents in the digital era, this ability is increasingly vital due to high exposure to social media. This study aims to systematically review the literature on the role of emotion regulation in adolescents, focusing on social media use and its mental health implications. By analyzing peer-reviewed articles from databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, the findings indicate that poor emotion regulation increases the risk of depression, anxiety, and low self-est

In this paper, we introduce a BERT-based emotion detection system and demonstrate how user emotions can be used to better recommend relevant content based on their feelings at a specific moment. This contrasts with systems like Woebot and Tess, which rely on pre-scripted responses rooted in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) but are inadequate for providing more extensive emotional responses that users might communicate. Emerging evidence suggests that interventions that promote flexible emotion regulation may have the potential to reduce the incidence and prevalence of mental health problems in specific at-risk populations. The challenge is how best to engage with at risk populations, who may not be actively seeking assistance, to deliver this early intervention approach. Other researchers have noted that some media use may foster empathy. The increase in the worldwide ageing population predicts that one out of every six people will be 60 or older in 2030.
