The contribution of fish farming is relatively low in the national consumption of fish products. Yet the country has a significant socio-natural potential, which well valued can reduce fish imports and enhance food security. The potential fish productivity of four fishless reservoirs of Western Kazakhstan is estimated for subsequent use in fish farming calculations on similar fishery reservoirs of the region. Potential fish production was determined by the biomass of feed zoobenthos. In parallel the productivity of carp as main object of extensive aquaculture was evaluated in the lake-commercial fish farms.
