Summary For more than five hundred years the southern part of the Netherlands belonged to the Roman Empire, more particularly to the province of Germania inferior (Lower Germany). The left bank of the river Rhine served as the external boundary of this province, once the ambition to annex the Germanic territories across the river had been abandoned. Although the Lower German Limes is only a modest part of the whole frontier system of the Roman Empire, it can boast of various distinctive characteristics, the most important of which is the outstanding preservation of timber buildings, ships and

Many of the jō-stems of Germanic were in fact ī/jō-stems that go back to ablauting iH/ieH-stems of Proto-Indo-European. The Germanic wō-stems go back to pie uH/ueH-stems with parallel ablaut behaviour to the iH/ieH-stems. Whereas the suffix variant in -ū has nowhere been preserved as such in Germanic, some traces of ablaut and accent variation remain in the Germanic wō-stems. Some such traces were first identified by Kroonen (2013); in this paper, the authors present a more detailed collection of the evidence for ablauting uH-stems in Germanic.

After a discussion of the literature, a summary of other Disconto-Gesellschaft ventures shows that the Dortmunder Union was not an isolated disaster, but one among many. It argues that the main motive behind Germany's involvement in the National Bank was to utilise the bank as a vehicle for extending German national interest into Iran. However, although Germany's main interest was to thereby gain economic influence in Iran, the National Bank provided Germany with a tool that furthered its desire for political participation and the establishing of authority within the spheres of interest o

The process was discovered in germano-silicate optical fibers exposed to intense blue light (λ=488 nm) from an Argon ion laser [2] but further experiments revealed that the photoinduced index change grows as the square of the laser intensity, indicating a two-photon process[3].
