TV educational programs mushroomed in China in the 1990s and beyond. They combined education and entertainment, and for the first time in Communist Chinese history, used TV ratings to determine the continued existence of these programs. This article addresses the predominant focus on history and traditional learning in the lectures at the most famous of these programs, China Central Television’s Lecture Room (baijiajiangtan) since its inception in 2001. Borrowing Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of habitus, it studies how a confluence of state policies, TV station decisions, market imperatives, and educators who presided over the programs created, through storytelling, a modern, open yet culturally conservative world, to keep the audience oriented to modern ideas and practices while deterring excessive individualism or freedom, and a vibrant social milieu favorable to these ideas and practices through audience input via TV program ratings.

Even though viewers understand that a television show is fictional, they can still mourn the demise of their favorite characters. This fictional grief became apparent with the on-screen death of the character Jack in the program This Is Us. The current study analyzed the death narrative and perceived responsibility in first and second seasons of This Is Us, paired with the online responses posted to social media and the short promotional video between the show and Crock-Pot. Findings suggest that fans experienced and expressed parasocial grief for Jack’s death on social media, attributing blame to the Crock-Pot brand. In turn, the company’s tweets and replies acknowledged and participated in the fans’ mourning rituals while reassuring the brand’s safety, ultimately aiding the brand’s public recovery. From fans’ displaced blame to the later partnership between the show and brand, labeled “#CrockPotIsInnocent,” this case demonstrates the impact of fictional media, social media engagement for parasocial grief, and a successful real-life brand recovery for a fictional crisis.

ABSTRACT This paper will describe the online cataloging of oil spill equipment that has taken place on the West Coast of the United States. A collaborative effort, the cataloging project was developed as a Northwest ad hoc undertaking to meet the equipment-listing requirement of the Area Contingency Plan. The intent was to assemble Oil Spill Response Organizations (OSROs) equipment lists into an Excel® spreadsheet format. Project participants in Washington and Oregon began equipment listing and over time, the process expanded to new members in California and Canada. Individual owners of equipment keep the data up-to-date. All equipment-location moves and acquisition changes are posted to the Internet site, yielding a current resource inventory that can be easily accessed 2417. The computer allows this equipment to be displayed, sorted by type, location, and tracked by date/time. The Excel® spreadsheet data can easily be manipulated to accurately tabulate, among other things, how much boom is available or in use, how much oil can be recovered, and how much oil storage is available. Hard copy equipment lists, which soon became outdated, are a thing of the past. The spreadsheets are used on a weekly basis for drill and spill applications as a tool to assist the Incident Command System's (ICS) Operation, Planning and Logistic sections to assemble, track and order specialized response equipment. The states of Washington and Oregon are using the list as a “database of record.” This is a great tool for the ICS Situation Unit when filling out the Incident Status Summary (ICS Form 209). In addition, individual lines of equipment or equipment systems can easily be printed onto ICS T-cards from Excel® by using a mail-merge program. A uniform Excel®-formatted response-equipment list is flexible, simple to use and easy to access. Undoubtedly, it has contributed to improving response management in the Pacific Northwest.

The essay analyzes the game nature of screen attraction - one of the most important tools of television dramaturgy. Attraction is examined, in the tradition established by Sergei Eisenstein and developed by Russian and foreign researchers, not just as entertainment but as a way of influencing audience perception. TV viewing is regarded as a special kind of game developing in accordance with the rules established by a programs format and repeated in this programs each new release. The key aspects relating classic TV communication to game are: voluntary selection and viewing of the programs; clearly marked place and time of occupation; a set of rules mandatory for a particular game; the feelings of joy and fun generated by the participation in TV viewing; immersion of the viewer in the "otherness" of the game and simultaneous presence in everyday life. The rules of communication game are accepted by all participants in the process: the makers of a TV product, the partakers and the audience. Voluntary way of program viewing is an indispensable condition for TV communication, and the attractions are its most active moments: they are designed to capture and keep the viewer's attention, and to evoke emotions associated with the pleasure produced by game. The essay explores the attraction-like nature of TV shows both as a content and as a set of the signs, as a way of the functioning of the audiovisual language. The variability of the TV spectacle is investigated as the phenomenon of postmodern aesthetics, as an aesthetic merit rather than an immanent disadvantage a priori depriving TV products of the right to uniqueness.

Dimana Pasar Terapung Siring mampu mendatangkan tamu dengan angka mencapai sekitar 56.000-an (lima puluh enaman ribu), sementara kawasan Pasar Terapung Kuin hanya mampu menempati angka tertinggi dalam 1 tahun sebesar 3.000-an (tiga ribuan) pengunjung. Banjarmasin in the world of tourism in Indonesia known as the city of a thousand rivers. Banjarmasin is one of the areas in Indonesia that has the most river flow so that makes Banjarmasin also known as a city who has Floating Market. In the city of Banjarmasin, Floating Market (Kuin Floting market) widely known by the public after appeared in one of television in Indonesia as their theme of television slogan. Currently, Kuin floating market condition is on a decline in development. Many media such as online and newspaper published preach about the less of buyers and the declining number of traders who sell in Kuin Floating Market. It is also confirmed by some traders who keep selling in Kuin. Based on that case then the local government taken the action to revive the culture of the embedded river as the image of Banjarmasin City by builded a floating market that is near to the center of the city and became a part of tourist attractions in Banjarmasin. However the number of visitors that recorded by the manager shown a gap between Kuin and Siring. Where Siring floating market can bring guests with numbers reaching 56.000 visitors but Kuin floating market area is only able to occupy the highest lift in 1 year of 3.000 visitors. So based on that case, this research approached with trianggulation research method, using descriptive qualitative analysis and SWOT analysis which aims to identify the management of Kuin and Siring floating market area and then make a formulation of the development strategy of Floating Market area in Banjarmasin. This research found that; the management system of Kuin and Siring floating market has the difference action; Many Infrastructure developed has done in Siring, the participation of communities involved in managing tourism of the floating market and makes Siring also more organized. However, Kuin area hasn’t official organization or association formed by local people to run the program of management and development of the area in an effort to revive the river culture in Banjarmasin. Strategy directives based on SWOT analysis are; Floating market tourism area in Banjarmasin ideally has a strategy in terms of addition of products, markets and functions of the region by using their strengths and opportunities. Television has never lost its popularity since the day it entered our life, unlike other mass media. One of the only reasons why television should maintain this feature is that the masses do not give up using it actively. Another thing that should be mentioned together with this is that this vehicle has been able to keep up with the changing media structure. Changing and evolving computer-based information tools and environments force communities to adapt. Media tools along with the communities have also taken their place. In this study, the program named Survivor, which is broadcasted on TV8 channel, will be questioned about the structure created by using transmedative narrative strategies. Supported by two television channels, websites, social media tools, forum sites, and smartphone applications, Survivor will be linked to the audience.

Created in 1978, the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (Authority) has developed an “award winning” solid waste management system that includes the following facilities to service the residents and businesses in Palm Beach County, Florida: • North County Resource Recovery Facility (NCRRF); • Residential and Commercial Recovered Materials Processing Facility; • Six Transfer Stations; • Class I Landfill; • Class III Landfill; • Biosolids Processing Facility; • Ferrous Processing Facility; • Woody Waste Recycling Facility; • Composting Facility; and • Two Household Hazardous Waste Facilities. The Authority has proactively planned and implemented an integrated program to provide for the long term, reliable, economically sound and environmentally sustainable management of solid waste in Palm Beach County. The County’s anticipated growth necessitated that the Authority evaluate several options for long-term processing and disposal capacity. This resulted in a decision to expand its WTE capacity with a new mass burn facility, the first facility of its kind to be constructed in the US in almost two decades, reaffirming its commitment to waste-to-energy. The planned 3,000 TPD facility will provide the Authority with a total disposal capacity of 5,000 TPD generating approximately 150MW of renewable energy. The decision to proceed with the expansion was approved by the Authority’s Board in October 2008. The Authority, with its Consulting Engineer, Malcolm Pirnie/ARCADIS, has since made significant progress in the implementation of this landmark project including the completion of the preliminary design, securing environmental permits, procuring a full service vendor, issuance of nearly $600 million revenue bonds for signing an electrical sales contract, and ongoing extensive public outreach efforts. This presentation will focus on the ongoing development of the new mass burn facility and an update of the status of activities conducted to date such as: • Environmental Permitting – Issuance of the PPSA Conditions of Certification and submittal of the Post Certification/Pre Construction requirements; • Vendor Procurement – Iterative procurement process designed to obtain vendor input through final selection and contract award of a full service vendor (Design, Build and Operate); • Preliminary Design – Innovative design features such as the utilization of SCR technology for control of NOx emission and incorporation of rainwater harvesting and water reuse; • Public Outreach – the Authority’s efforts to keep the public informed through mass mailings, community meetings, television commercials and educational materials for all audiences; and • Financing – Approach designed to preserve alternative minimum tax benefits.
