One of the analytical tools used to illustrate this complexity is theories on underlying values and identity perceptions in organizations. The method is semi structured qualitative interviews with public librarians. An initial method to structure the empirical data consists of a phenomenographic approach. Abstract Using microservices is a way of supporting an agile architecture. However, if the microservices development is not properly managed, the teams’ development velocity may be affected, reducing agility and increasing architectural technical debt. This paper investigates how to manage the use of shared libraries in microservices to improve agility during development. We interviewed practitioners from four large international companies involved in microservices projects to identify problems when using shared libraries. Our results show that the participating companies had issues with shared libraries as follows: coupling among teams, delays on fixes due to overhead on libraries development teams, and need to maintain many versions of the libraries. Our results highlight that the use of shared libraries may hinder agility on microservices. Thus, their use should be restricted to situations where shared libraries cannot be replaced by a microservice and the costs of replicating the code on each service is very high.

The study explores how digital libraries like XReading impact students’ extensive reading skills in the English as a Second Language program. XReading provides a Learning Management System where teachers can track and set goals to enhance students’ performance. It also has a key feature of online formative assessments that keep students motivated and accountable in their learning journey. The study using a qualitative research design was conducted at a federal college in the UAE, and it aimed to explore teachers’ perceptions of using XReading as a formative assessment tool, its benefits and challenges the students face, and how it influences students’ performance. The data were collected qualitatively using semi-structured interviews and observations to reveal the effects of XReading as a formative assessment tool in extensive reading. The results indicated that along with cooperative learning, XReading involves the students with a multitude of features it offers and fosters engagement, collaboration, and learner autonomy among students which is a twenty-first-century learning skill.

Abstract Employing social robots in public spaces to support employees at work is a frequently discussed scenario. However, the success of robotic systems often depends on people’s willingness to initiate interactions with them. This makes understanding people’s usage decisions crucial, yet only limited research has been done on why people select publicly accessible social robots over alternatives, such as human employees. Amongst various factors, people’s diversity characteristics are likely to influence this decision, such as people’s locus of control when using technology and their self-efficacy in human-robot interaction. To investigate this choice for or against using a robot, a field study (N = 65) was conducted in two public libraries in the Ruhr area (Germany). Participants had to decide to interact with a robot or an employee and were subsequently asked to explain their decision via a questionnaire and an interview. Results reveal that the decision could neither be explained by people’s locus of control when using technology nor by other diversity characteristics. Furthermore, no significant differences in self-efficacy in human-robot interaction between users who chose the robot instead of the human employee were found. Finally, the qualitative findings point to general interest in robots and people’s differences in dealing with novelty as reasons for their choice. Overall, our findings offer insights into the decision for or against the usage of a robot, which are relevant to both, research and the deployment of social robots in public spaces.

A study was conducted to examine the opportunities and challenges offered by COVID-19 on academic libraries during closure. Telephone interviews were conducted with 75 academic librarians to understand their reaction to library closure. The opportunities and challenges experienced were unpacked to show how academic librarians took advantage of imminent closure to continue offering services. It was discovered that physical buildings were closed, and some librarians were visiting the library to assist patrons virtually. The major opportunity was the introduction or enhancement of virtual services. The major drawback was the non-circulation of print resources and unavailability of seating space for patrons. The author recommended that institutions should provide internet connectivity for librarians to assist patrons from home.

This is one of the ways of ‘making the book pay' in helping to create an informed society that would take part in the implementation of the Africa we want through the Africa Agenda 2063. A survey was undertaken on how libraries are supporting information literacy and research skills of students for a successful transition from primary and secondary to higher education. Twenty school libraries and 15 academic libraries were purposively selected to participate in the study. Telephone interviews were done with school, teachers, and academic librarians to understand the opportunities and challenges that they are encountering in imparting information literacy and research skills to students in preparing them for higher education in the digital era.
